  • Ingredients:
    Rice 500 gm
    Water- 1.5 litre
    Cumin seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
    Bay leaves-2
    Cardamom -3
    Green chilli-1
    Ghee- 1 tablespoon
    Butter- 1 teaspoon
    Salt as needed
    Corriander leaves- a few
    Jeera rice is so easy to prepare.
    I have taken 500gm basmati rice for it.
    Wash the rice well until the water is clear.
    Do not soak the rice as otherwise the rise will be broken.
    We need a heavy bottom kadai/pan for preparing the rice.
    Add 1 tablespoon ghee to the pan
    Add 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeerakam) to this
    Add 3 cardamom, 2 bay leaves and a green chilli to the ghee and sauté this
    Add the rice and mix gently.
    Sauté this for 2-3 minutes
    Add 1.5 litre water to this and mix
    Add salt and mix gently
    Cover the pan/ kadai using a tight lid.
    Once it starts to boil stir the rice gently
    Cover it again and cook for another 3-4 minutes
    As you can see the water dried out
    Stir the rice gently one more time and 1 teaspoon butter
    Add chopped coriander leaves
    Cover the rice again
    It’s time to dum the rice now
    Place the kadai on a pan to avoid direct heat
    If it is a tight lid you don’t have to seal it around
    I have used a small piece of carrot to cover this small air hole
    Dum the rice in small flame for about 20 minutes
    Stir the rice gently
    Add some for chopped coriander leaves
    And mix well
    Our jeera rice is ready
    You can garnish the rice while serving if you wish to.
