    The MagLock Ultra from KobraVR is by FAR, the best looking VR gun stock for the Quest 3 and Quest Pro controllers. However looks aren't everything. Just because a stock looks good doesn't mean it is good. And just because KobraVR sent it to me for free doesn't mean I'm not going to tell you how I really feel about it. Like I do with all my product reviews I put the MagLock Ultra through it's paces in all the VR shooters I own, including Contractors, Onward, Breachers, Pavlov, Vail and Ghosts of Tabor. I used it with dozens of different guns from AR's to LMG's to SMG's to snipers to hand guns and found some things about it I really like and some others I'm not so much of a fan of, and in this video I highlight both the good, and the bad things I found about the MagLock Ultra. So if you're ready to see if the performance of the MagLock Ultra is anywhere near as good as it looks, then what are you doing reading this? Hit play on the video and give it a watch.

    Thanks, I know you have been mad busy, so I appreciate the review. Hope you don't mind me making a couple of points that I also did on Twitter / X.
    Head position, posture, thumb position, and lighting can all affect tracking. I use the Q3 Ultra a lot, especially in Ghosts of Tabor and don't have tracking issues. If anyone has concerns and would like any particular weapons demonstrating, I can upload videos any time - just ask.
    With all top-mounted stocks there is a risk of occlusion, you have to work with it rather than against, you'll find what works best and suits your playstyle when you spend time with a new stock, that's the same for any stock regardless of model.
    Hope this makes sense for people 🙂

    Thanks for the review it is very thorough as usual. Also with tracking with anything with or without a stock and that is ANY stock not just ours, the Quest 3 the LED can be effected by long sleeves we have found. Lost tracking whilst wearing a hoodie a while back >

      That minimal design of the Quest 3 controllers definitely makes them picky when it comes to tracking.

    Hey man, i had a technical question!
    If im upgrading the RAM in my PC, and i currently have 2x8gb ram sticks, would it make more sense to add 2x16gb sticks or to just replace them? (given the speeds are the same and are all DDR4 with the same amount of bandwith for all)

    Thanks for the review - the best as always. Is this compact SMG tracking problem common? It's a only thing about this gunstock that concerns me before buying

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  2 місяці тому +2

      I had no problem using most all SMG's with the Ultra. Stuff like the MP5, the Vector and others all worked great with the Ultra. For the ones where your hands are super close together, you can adjust the gunstock calibration in some games to help, but sometimes even that isn't enough. Over all though it's pretty surprising how forgiving most games are about your hand placement. There was only a couple guns I had trouble with using the Ultra, So in my opinion, not being able to adjust the distance between your hands isn't a deal breaker.

    Which would you recommend more, this, the Blitzer or the Sanlaki Elite? I have the Elite but am thinking of sending it back. It is okay but the magnets don't hold as well as I would like making the grips slip off easily. Does this seem to hold and "feel" better when removing and reattaching the grips?

    • @jinxed13
      @jinxed13 2 місяці тому +2

      I am biased as I am half of KobraVR. We order custom magnets, so they are consistent strength and quality. They are thoroughly tested to avoid accidental slip. Personally, I like lightweight stocks and a fixed rear, so Blitzer would be my go to.

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  2 місяці тому +1

      Man that's kind of a tough question. I can't speak to the SanLaki as I've never used one, but when it comes to choosing between the Blitzer and the MagLock Ultra, in my opinion, it boils down to what kind of expeience you're looking for?
      If you want something that is easy to use, super lightweight, is super adjustable and just flat out fast for playing fast paced online shooters like Contractors, or Vail or something, I would recommend the Blitzer as it fits all those criteria really well.
      On the other hand if you're more into Simulation shooters and looking for something that is going to give you the most realistic experience then the Ultra is definitely worth trying out. It's not as heavy as a real firearm, because in a video game you're going to be holding up your rifle a lot more than you would in real life and it being light weight helps prevent fatigue, but when it comes to being able to disconnect your dominant hand from the stock to use that hand for things, I don't know how it could be any better. The magnets hold your controller firmly in place and you can even pull the stock into your shoulder a decent amount with that controller before the magnets will detach. For the controller to detach easily you have to tip the handle of the controller toward the magazine like I show at 7:51. If you pull straight back it takes significantly more force to get them to come apart. Falandorn (the owner/creater of KobraVR) told me they use N52 strength mangets which have a pulling force of around 10 pounds, so they lock in really nicely.
      But yah, if you're more of a competetive online player, I would say the Blitzer is the way to go and if you're a sim guy then the Ultra is probably going to suit you best.

    • @KobraVR
      @KobraVR 2 місяці тому +4

      @@Maraksot78 About the magnets this info is not strictly correct and it is a little more complex. We use different strength and size magnets for different applications, we also change the strength through various small tweaks eg it was too strong on the Ultra at one point so we altered the design and lowered the strength, we can also have a change to the size of the countersunk hole for instance. Sourcing them is key, an N38 from one manufacturer can be similar to an N52 from a different one - even though it is listed as the same force "N52". I buy the magnets from the same company every time as they are specialists and offer consistency.

      I would say kobravr. I know it could be a conflict of interest on my part since I am a sponsor so take my word with a pinch of salt. But I'll be honest with you, since I owned a Sanlaki and many kobra stocks, I'll say it depends on your play style! I think the kobra stocks are really rugged and really well put together. The stocks are tested functional and are really user-friendly. I have to say, personally, using stocks that use magnetic docks does take time to master and practice to perfect. This includes the kobra stocks as well. I personally love the magnetic dock stocks from KobraVR as I primarily run with the Ultra (the one from this review) and the maglock pro stocks. The issues that I had with the Sanlaki stocks were the use of metal poles with 3d printed plastic. During the construction process, if you over tighten the poles, the threads on the pole can and will cross thread the 3d printed parts, causing parts to fit loosely. And heaven forbid you drop it, the weight of the poles can snap any of these 3d printed connections. But both are really solid products for their own reasons. Just do your research on the products to find what suits your play style and needs.

      At this point in time, no they do not. And I don't know if Meta will, or can, make them work together. The only controllers Meta allows you to pair with the Quest 3 is, of course, the Quest 3 controllers and the Quest Pro controllers.

    I am glad that Exponential technology products and barriers to entry for things such as these actually democratizes/dematerializes (Diamandis guy talks about) the experiences to all gamers of sort regardless. But isn't it the whole experience of VR or the Gaming industry in general is to provide entertainment and 'experiences' (subjective) to a whole new level-- to get away/escapees from the mundane reality of it all. I mean the use of tools that mimics/utilizes our biological Hunter and Gatherer hand and eye coordination thingy defeats the whole purpose of what is deemed possible for closing the gap with the 'fantasy' world, which kind of 'killjoy' actually. I know that this niche market is at the early stages of adoption for all things geek, but this nascent industry should focus more on building tools that will capture our very wildest imagination yet. I mean why not take advantage of the infiniteness of the digital world of bits, instead of doing things like reloading the barrel and all the ridiculous things that go with it. I apologize for not being liberal BABY! but this makes me want to recite John Travolta's 'well! life is stranger than fiction sometimes' with the overall direction of this technology.

    Honestly for me, I'd either get stock by WieldVR if you don't mind not having magnetic controller grips, or even better get the Sanlaki Elite. It's almost identical to this except works with all SMGs and its $12 cheaper, for me anyways.

    • @juryfilanti
      @juryfilanti 2 місяці тому

      the problem here is that the prices are insane, basically they are all selling 3d printed things with few light weight pipes at 10 times the cost. in Australia the Sanlaki is 200 dollars, this one in the video 180 and probably the cost to make them is around 15 to 20 bucks (au$) including the magnets and metal parts.... unless this one has some "flair", the sanlaki is basically 2 pipes and 2 pieces of 3d printed material

    • @VulcanEditing
      @VulcanEditing 2 місяці тому

      @juryfilanti at the end of the day it's to each their own as prices will vary depending on where you live and if you already have a 3D printer and such.
      The main things you're paying for when buying a VR stock isn't the material but the design and engineering. It takes a surprising amount of research and engineering to make a stock that's adjustable in numerous ways without having tracking issues and damaging the controllers. I've used a cheap stock a few years ago and I think I only paid like $40-60 for it but it was awful tbh, still better then no stock at all but the sling it came with didn't work right and the controllers has to be pushed into the holders everytime you needed to reload or throw something.
      Personally I'd rather just pay the $157 the Wield stock costs in USA and save me a ton of time designing and buying a 3d printer and learning to use it and etc. Plus these companies are usually pretty awesome about sending upgrade parts for free as long as ya pay shipping or honoring their warranties if a piece breaks.

    • @juryfilanti
      @juryfilanti 2 місяці тому

      @@VulcanEditing I totally agree, but just for example, I have 2 kobraVR gunstock, they do work decently good, but as someone else mentioned in the comments they are cheap to be fair, hollow plastic, a lot of imperfection in the printing, not the sturdiest but they work good enough, and I love the open cup design... but... until not much time ago you could buy a "naked" version of the gunstock for around 50 to 60 dollars and the pretty one for around 90 with just the look as difference, now it cost 30% more and there is no cheap version. this is just to say that you can still buy a valid 50 bucks gunstock, they just don't give you the option anymore.
      For me the point of buying 3d printed (and I do 3d printing) is that is cheap but "weaker", now you got product like sanlaki or this one at a very high price, when a Spine is 70 bucks or a protube 120

    It’s kind of weird to include the attachments in this review. It’s a bit irrelevant to someone trying to see if it’s worth purchasing. After watching the review I’m not sure how often tracking issues occur because you were mentioning your unnecessary attachments (you don’t see the stock while playing, doesn’t make sense to use attachments or a magazine).
