You will have heard dozens of Fleetwood Mac songs throughout your life without realizing it. They have been around for a very long time, and have released hit after hit after hit, despite a more dramatic history than Game of Thrones. There have been many documentaries on the band, mainly about this lineup. Instead of killing each other they wrote "Rumours", and hurt each other through the lyrics instead.
Maggie found this out when I had her react to Silver Springs... and watching Stevie and Lindsey singing as Stevie says "You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you." etc.
Mick Fleetwood is, in my opinion one of the most fun drummers just to watch do their craft. you can tell he just really enjoys is. The song "Tusk" is a good one to really see this come out
You mean Bon Jovi nicked it off Fleetwood Mac as BJ did not exist when this was released. I love the Rumours Album and have listened to the middle section thousands of times as a UK F1 fan since the 70s (Starting at the solo bass line). Just about the best FM track ever IMHO. You should listen to the original which is far better
I was going to point out this dropped a full ten years before dead or alive, thus doa resembles this. Further, Dead or Alive will never break the chain! LOL
@@johnenglish1955 yes, I got a lecture for bringing up something “in the past”. I actually had to explain that the example didn’t happen in the future, nor in the present, so yes, many things are in past. And if happened before they were born, it still really happened. And there is solid evidence. And we can learn valuable lessons from the past. You’d think I was speaking in Greek. What is wrong with young folks?
I'm so glad that you have enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac videos I've sent for you! They are one of my all time favorite bands. And Stevie Nicks - wow... just wow every time. Great job!
Rumors is one of the best produced albums ever. I record and mix my own music, and I constantly come back to the studio version of "The Chain" as a reference track. And strictly from a musical standpoint, the album is so diverse and creative. It's amazing that they were able to produce such good music once you learn about everything going on in the band at the time.
They are some of the best rock musicians in the world, and it still takes my breath away hearing The Chain! Have seen them live twice and Stevie Nicks on solo tour twice, and those were some of the most stunning musical concert experiences of my life! So glad you got to react to this! Hope at some point you react to Stevie Nicks' live performance of "Landslide" with Fleetwood Mac... perfection!
Whenever I hear some of today's music, I come back and listen to Fleetwood Mac, either their songs or this concert video. It does me so much good to hear what real talent means for music production. Most bands today can't read music. Fleetwood Mac wrote perhaps the best album of all time, in spite of barely being able to speak to one another. And it has held up for 45 years. No music from today will be around in 45 years. Thanks Fleetwood Mac.
Fleetwood Mac was always so creative and this song was one of their best. Great fun seeing a video of a live performance. Loved your reaction, rabbit hole and all. Nice editing too. ⛓
Actually, Jon Bon Jovi's WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE is markedly similar to THE CHAN since CHAIN song came out in 1977, and Bon Jovi's song came out many years later. Lindsey Buckingham was born and raised in Kentucky. He grew up playing guitar, najo, and other instruments and played country music and bluegrass. The influence can still be heard in his playing. It's why he does not play with a pick.
Twice! I saw the "Behind the Mask" tour in Toronto....and gotta' say Billy Burnette and Rick Vito made it feel authentically Fleetwood Mac...and added some new flavour. They are both great musicians and songwriters. The album, imo, is underrated, and full of gems. In subsequent years, I was thrilled for the reunification of the 'Fab Five'. And I've really loved Lindsey Buckingham's recent (last 20 years) solo stuff!
Fleetwood Mac Rumours album is one of the greatest. While they were writing and recording these songs, the band members had no communication with each other due their own personal relationships with each other. There was also massive amounts of drugs being consumed. They all communicated with each other through the words of these songs.
I know I am late to this reaction, but if you remember, in your intro there was a bit about UK TV (BBC & Channel 4) using the instrumental section as the "theme tune" to their F1 broadcasts... Then when you got to the instrumental you stopped, went back & said, "you can feel something is building".. That's what the TV have consistently used for F1, despite even changing broadcasters! It IS Formula 1 racing to every single Brit!
That concert the video was taken from is stellar from front to back. Something I suggest watching/listening to from the same show is "Silver Springs" which is an absolutely "oh, this wrecks me emotionally" love song.
This song also has more irony than Alanis Morissette ever dreamed of, as the two couples in the band had broken up with various degrees of acrimony, yet they had to open many, many shows singing "keep us together." Note the looks that Stevie gives Lindsay as he's singing and you'll catch more than a hint of backstory.
06:21 "...tiny guitar". Talking about a Rick Turner Model 1 as a tiny guitar is kind of.....eh.....not as it seems. Short story: This is one of the most versatile and powerful instruments I know. Mahogany body, laminated maple/purpleheart neck, piezo pickup, humbucker magnetic pickup which is mounted on a turnable plate to find the sweet spot of any guitar string, a switch to split the magnetic PU to a singe ecoil, a fade-control for mixing piezo and magnetic pickup and an active parametric eq. THIS guitar looks tiny but clearly is a masterpiece of the recently deceased Rick Turner. Lindsey Buckingham wanted the clarity of a Stratocaster and the power of a Gibson and loved to handle this guitar like one of his acoustics. Rick Turner desigend and handmade the Model 1 and Lindsey uses this guitar for almost every song. Cheers. BTW: I Like your video!
Notice how Lindsey Buckingham plays his guitar. That is NOT how you're supposed to play a guitar. He plays it more like a banjo. He never took a guitar lesson in his life but he produced some of the greatest sounds I have ever heard! He was gifted from a very early age.
Ah, good, you chose the one where both Lindsay and Stevie are trying to outdo each other. That's also why they keep looking/glaring at each other. For context, they're in the middle of a rough as hell break up and two other band members went through a rough divorce. This band is a soap opera that is worth watching the documentary on-
This album is one of my all time favorites of all time. There is only one song on the album that I don't love. Ironically, while creating a near perfect album, the band was having difficulty managing egos and figuring out whose genitals went where. It is a testament to their professionalism that these brilliant musicians can share a stage without smashing one another with mike stands, guitars, and drum sticks. In spite of their multitude of conflicts they were able to craft incredible music both in spite of and because of their conflict and the pain it caused all of them.
I saw them twice in the 70's. They are the band, out of everybody I saw & heard live, then or since who had the most difference between their live and studio sound. Far more powerful live.
May I recommend the Highwomen cover of this song. This is a super group of four female artist, 2 Grammy winners and all ACM award winners. They are incredible together
And this when Lindsey lost a little bit vocally, too. That speaks to their ability as a group, to turn that into a strength. Back when this album came out the harmonies between Linsdey, Stevie and Christine were straight up magical.
One of the few bands I actually recall the names from: Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, Christine McVie and last but certainly not least Stevie Nicks. This lineup was absolutely magnificent. I however also like the original Peter Green lineup; less mainstream but an absolutely marvelous blues/rock group with hits like "Oh, Well", "Albatross", "Black Magic Woman", "Need your love so bad", and "Man of the world" to name a few.
being f1 fan I always get goose bumps when that instrumental part starts. But Brian Tyler's F1 theme is also epic and sounds great as live symphonic orchestra piece.
Flashback to 16 years ago... Lil ole "I Don't Get Starstruck" me was working at an L.A. firm. Mick of the Fleetwoods just casually strolls past my desk. I did not I repeat did NOT fall off of my chair. But it was a close call... 🤩
I love younger people that have no idea about classic bands and music and all that they were back in "the day!" FM had creativity, passion heartbreak and love. The tightness of the band musically, unparalleled then. A talent beyond and we were so lucky to have them. RIP Christine.
Fleewood Mac...Greatest....All. Lindsay play the guitar with the fingers, is not veryn usual in a electric guitar. His voice plain of passion. Oh my good the voices of Steve and Cristine....So diferents, so beautifuls, Fleewood at the drums is gorgeus, and especific sound, and Mcve in a bass have a sound, betwen all of then....amazing
Stevie and Lindsey had broken up prior to this concert and it was a very bitter split. There was a lot of animosity between the two on stage that you can see between them.
The Chain was never a significant radio hit, but has withstood the test of time as it is almost always voted best Fleetwood Mac song in polls by both fans and critics.
Lindsey's firs instrument was banjo. He uses a lot of that technique. This guitar is custom built to accommodate his technique. During their main touring days he played various guitars but mostly a Les Paul. Stevie also has a great fingerpicking technique. She quit playing instruments on stage when they joined FM. She did do tracks in the studio. They lived in Houston for a few months and I knew Stevie and met Lindsey and we talked guitar. They disappeared when they got some studio slots in Nashville. I think that is when they did the Buckingham Nicks album. A few months later ...history happened.
This shows the greatness of Lindsey Buckingham as a guitarist and that when they went out on tour for the album Tango in the Night Lindsey refused to go and they used 2 guitarists to replace him. You may see similarities in this song with Wanted Dead or Alive but this song was released in 1977 so Bon Jovi were likely influenced by Fleetwood Mac. There is so much passion in their music and they do have a long history because the group was originally Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and it was founded by Peter Green in 1967 and the what we think of as Fleetwood Mac only came together in 1975.
I was in the car with my, at the time 14 year old son, and the song Under Pressure came on. My son said, "Someone ripped off Vanilla Ice!" I was flabbergasted. Finally, I was like, "NO! This is freakin Freddie Mercury! I may have failed you as a father that you would think Freddie ripped off Vanilla Ice." I experienced that same indignant horror when you kept comparing Bon Jovi to Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac is rock royalty, and Stevie Nicks is the queen. She's got a great sultry voice, she's a top notch songwriter, and she had this sexy quality that permeated everything she did. Everyone else in the band is really good, too. Bon Jovi has a few good songs.
Favorite son from Fleetwood Mac is "Little Lies". BTW: you make me laugh when you said : is like dead or alive and first to come in my mind is the 80's Electro Dance British band. Bahaha! 😂 And I was like :. "what???'
So maybe a band could hire the USC marching band to come on their stage for a big finale at a concert? Fleetwood Mac already did that too... Did you enjoy that performance ? It Is Freaking grooovie baaaabbbbyyy. Look at Feetwoods eyes 👀 they were awesome.
The USC marching band is the only marching band to have even a gold record, much less the multiplatinum credit they got for working with Fleetwood Mac on the original.
Nice to see you get a nice piece of classic cookie kid - Robin Trower - For Earth Below or whatever - the Gary Wright album Dream Weaver is a nice little narative but so hard to choose from 68 - 78 m/l- glory years
I learned the drums listening to Mick Fleetwood & Nigel Olsen (Elton John Band). They are 2 of the best Contemporary Rock Drummers that there are. Add Roger Taylor (Queen) to that too. They have been around since the early 1960's & are still blasting the Music out now. Love Fleetwood Mac.
The Chain was written and recorded in 1976 for Rumours, a 1977 release. If there is any similarity, it is Fleetwood Mac who should sue Bon Jovi whose song, Dead or Alive appeared on the 1986 release of Slippery When Wet, a DECADE AFTER this song. All credit to FWM and Lindsey Buckingham's riff. They created the sound, not Bon Jovi.
If I was stranded on a dessert island, and could only have 3 albums to listen to until rescue, their Rumours Album would be my first choice.....great album!
Stevie Nicks is the First female to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Single Female Artist and Group . I was lucky to see them in the late 70’s and then seeing Stevie solo a few years ago , and one of my favorites Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders opened for her and sang with her
If you go back to the 70's, you'll find that ALL audio editing was accomplished by cutting and splicing the actual recording tapes....IN FACT, tape cutting was, prior to one-sided razor blades, done using plain 'ole household scissors.....Editor/engineers would often have thousands of feet, dozens of sections of audio tape, thrown over their shoulders and picked off as needed.
I just discovered your channel and hope you do more Fleetwood Mac. For an incredible performance, check out Silver Springs or Big Love from this same concert (The Dance 1997). Also see Rhiannon live from the 1976 Midnight Special. Stevie is on fire -- still one of her most iconic live performances ever.
Aloha Maggie, I've been in love/LUST with Stevie ever since I saw them on "The Midnight Special" selling Rumors 😍🥰😜. Lindsey was the luckiest man in the world, he got her in her prime. She just turned 74 and I'm going to be broken hearted when she joins GOD. My last cry was Neil Peart and before him Tom Petty. We have to see them while we still can. 🎸
This may make you angry with me, but back in the day I saw this super band live in Morgantown West Virginia at WVU. It was super great!!!!! You said let me know what you like and do not like. I for one like YOU... Lindsey's guitar sounds so different. I think it is different because what kind it is. And because of how he is playing it.!!!!!
Been following this band for a long time. Crazy story! It brought me my 1st gf, listening to their song "tusk", back in 1979. Her name was "Heidi". Guess what:

Great reaction. This song was released about 10 years before Bon Jovi released Dead or Alive. Cheers from Texas
Thought the same exact thing.. that and if you take the amount of cocaine FleetWood Max did in there tours.. it would be a huge line to the moon..
"The Chain" was released about 11 years before Boni Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive"
I will never unhear that similarity! So right.
Thought it was more ten years. Thanks for you comment.
Yup!
Everyone says the same about a Rihanna song that sounds like Edge of Seventeen but Edge of Seventeen was written way before Rihanna’s song.
It would be forbidden put Fleetwood Mac and bon Jovi at the same sentence. LoL please never do it again...
Never seen anyone in my life experience more joy then Mic Fleetwood playing those drums…keeps me going honestly.
He has always made the best faces when he plays, like he is fully into it.

Nobody ever accused Bon Jovi of being particularly original, or if they did they were very wrong.
🤠 Bravo Bill! 👍 I'll never understand this generation's obsession with "If it didn't happen in MY lifetime it doesn't exist." 😂😂😂

In the build-up segment, the drum introduced the bass. The hero of that segment was the bass. The electric guitar took over after that.
and that's why it took TWO guitarists to replace lindsey when he left the band.

They sounded better live in this reunion concert than the original
Might have been because by then they weren't all wanting to kill each other while they were singing this song.
@@88wildcat Drugs, back in the day, were a factor too😅
Good song. Really love the bass. Brings me back to the F1 90's. Gives me goosebumbs all over again.
The Chain was about their dedication to the band, despite all their personal differences.

I forgot how amazing they were….thanks! ♥️
Everyone should know that the best reactions are here.
Amazingly, this performance was a live one in 1997, over 20 years after this incarnation of FM was formed.
Mann !! This was a awesome concert !!! I think it was back in 2002 ...whe they got back together !!
Fleetwood mac - silver springs!!
Believe it or not the" eagles"sold the most albums and records in the entire 21st century more than anyone and that's a fact
Aloha Maggie,
I've been in love/LUST with Stevie ever since I saw them on "The Midnight Special" selling Rumors 😍🥰😜.
The guitar riff is used as the theme tune for the formula 1 racing program in the UK.
Rest in peace Miss Mcvee
Amy Lee does an absolutely amazing cover of this classic song
Sound city studios is responsible for creating the most famous version of Fleetwood mac.
"Turner" guitar, sweet !!
As someone who grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac I almost feel like it was a slap in the face to be compared to bon Jovi
My second favorite song by Fleetwood Mac, surpassed only by Dreams (which was my all time favorite until Hell is For Children by Pat Benatar).
You mentioned that the song sounded like Dead or Alive. That's funny since The Chain was recorded 10 years before Dead or Alive was even written.
Bon Jovi would have probably attended their concert and heard this song as a teenager before writing that riff.
Fleetwood Mac is the most covered band ever. Their music will always live on
The history of Fleetwood Mac is very interesting! Especially how the internal romantic conflicts ended up in their songs.
Your listening to the greatest three part harmonies in rock and roll history Buckingham Nicks and McVie unquestionable
Been following this band for a long time. Crazy story! It brought me my 1st gf, listening to their song "tusk", back in 1979.
Her name was "Heidi". Guess what:
