- How to Paint Clouds
Cloud & Ocean Painting in Acrylics
Step by Step Process
Instructions:
Lay down the base coat for the sky, I used cerulean blue + white, a little bit of light pthalo blue for a gradient, but it's not necessary.
2-3 layers of this should give good coverage.
Mix a white + ultramarine blue for the base layer of clouds to create the shape.
Add more white to the mixture and add the next layer to the clouds.
Slowly add more and more white, building up volume and depth as you layer the paint.
When you create the highlights with a pure white, use a soft dry brush to blend that wet paint onto the dry paint underneath.
Dry brushing is very important here and will soften the edges & make blending easier.
Peel off the tape for a clean edge. I always use tape.
Lay down the base coat for the ocean. I used a lot of blues: phthalo blue, ivory black, cerulean, teal, white, bright aqua green, cobalt teal. It's however you want it to look, really.
Work from darkest at the horizon to lightest at the shore.
Layer on the paint and blend as you go making sure the paint is wet.
Start adding highlights layer by layer with just a watered-down version of the colors you already have, try not to make lines perfectly straight and vary the squiggle marks.
That’s really all there is to it!

It was so hard to find a cloud tutorial for acrylic paint and you not only provided, you excelled. Its breathtaking. Thank you for the help!
That means a lot! I'll definitely do just a cloud tutorial, no ocean, and make it as detailed as possible!

Wow, thank you so much for all your efforts and detailed instructions. God bless you. Do we wait for each sky layer to dry before we do the next or just put layers on top of still wet paint please?
Thanks! I would just dry in between layers. You can use a heat gun to speed up the process.
Very inspiring video, Faisal! Just when I thought the sky and ocean was completed, you kept adding more and more layers that just made it perfection! Wonderful job!
Thanks so much Anashta! You are so supportive and so sweet.

Thank you!
Amazing art, looks simple but is actually so well detailed ♥️😍
Do you prep your canvas with something? And do you do a top coat or anything to preserve the art? And which brush do you use for dry blending?
Thanks!
Wood Panel- multiple layers of gesso, sand at the end for a smooth surface. Varnish, I use an acrylic varnish from Krylon. You can use any brush for dry blending but I like to use a softer, older brush that is kind of damaged cuz it blends better.
@@FaisalWarsani thank you so much for taking out the time to reply! ❣️
Your art is seriously so mesmerising, sometimes I just watch it to calm my mind. It’s a therapeutic process🙆🏻♀️
So amazing! But could you please explain about the brushes & paints you use, much appreciate.
Thanks! I use miniature detail brushes from Daco, available on Amazon. I also buy a lot of random brushes from Blick's or Michael's (American companies) and paints: Golden / Liquitex Acrylic.

Very nice. I want to ask how to give ocean effect. I am making one painting but not able to understand which kind strokes should I use to give the effect . I have already made the ocean background . Please guide
How can people dislike the video !!?whyyy
Do you use any mediums mixed with your paints... like slow dry mediums?
Yes! I use a Retarder made by Golden. It slows down the drying process & makes blending easier.
Great ♥️♥️
I really like your clouds. How do you do a dry brush blending without leaving brush stroke? Everytime I try to do a dry brush blending, it ends up with brush stroke everywhere. Its frustrating.
You should look for a very soft brush, and use a very gentle touch. Make sure the paint you are using is watered down so it's easier to blend with the dry brush.
Thankyou for the tips😁
Aap sa 1 chez ma ny seekhi k ocean or sky k bech dark lane achi look dati ha
Do you let the sky dry before you start the clouds?
do you use water?
Which Blue used?
Plz mention the colors u have used !
Awesome. Completely off topic...what is the music?
Yeah, it's good right? Forgot to add to description: Filaments - Scott Buckley
It would help if you moved the instructions to the top of the screen. We can’t read them when you’re painting. The painting is lovely. Thanks for the tutorial.
I'll be more careful about the placement of text! Thanks!
Very good. But please try to show us the colors for beginners.
I adore those clouds but the video is so fast , I cannot understand which brush you are using,,,
Sorry about that! This wasn't meant to be a tutorial but it turned into one. I have other videos that are slower and more explained. I use a detail brush set from Daco which I really love!
@@FaisalWarsani thank you for answering to me so quickly, and yes, I found other videos of yours, with clouds !
It's a tutorial video right? If you create your video like this then how could we learn from it?
I understand what you mean, this wasn't originally going to be a tutorial video but I added the instructions while I was editing it. My more recent videos are actually tutorials though! Hope that helps
Please upload more videos
how is this step by step, its so fast there is no way I can learn anything here.
This is nice to watch, but not really a learning video.
Thanks. It's more of a time lapse turned tutorial rather than me recording it with the intention of instructing. I will say that some people have learned from it, sorry it didn't meet your standards. Hopefully, a future video will!
