In the past 3 yrs or so I've become addicted to making shawls. I'm getting quite a collection but having ADHD, it gives me the variety that my brain needs so it doesn't get bored..LOL. I've made 3 just in the past 5 days..LOL
3 in 5 days is a fluke..LOL. I'm generally pretty slow depending on the detail of the pattern. Sometimes one shawl takes me a couple of months..LOL@@slowcrochet
What a wonderful husband! You are so blessed. My dad is the one who taught me the basics of crochet. His mom taught all 5 kids to crochet growing up during The Depression. It was their jobs to make rugs out of clothing that could no longer be a hand-me-down. My grandma later taught me different stitches and small projects like puff stitch potholders. My fav crochet items to make these days are hats and Virus shawls. I'm also a knitter thanks to my mom buying books, needles, and yarn from a LYS in town. My grandma was able to help me expand my knitting skills as well. My passion is triangle shawls. The only problem is that I'm easily distracted by new yarn and patterns. It's my version of "Squirrel!" What I appreciate so much about both crafts is that they keep my hands and mind busy. That was invaluable while I underwent treatment for breast cancer. Thank you Dad, Mom, and Grandma. The love and nurturing you gave me to learn these crafts has literally kept me sane. 💕🧶
What a beautiful story! Thank you so much for sharing your heart and history with us! It means so much to connect with our family and carry on their legacy through the work of our hands! Big hugs!
I love shawls, too, Mary, and I'm glad your channel was suggested by the UA-cam algorithm! I love wraps, too, because a triangle shawl sometimes leaves me cold in the front! 😂 I often make my own wrap and ruana patterns because there aren't as many patterns for those. I've started giving away the shawl or wrap I'm wearing if someone admires it and says so. I tell them to remember when they wear it that God's love is wrapped around them.
What a beautiful, generous heart you have! Do you consider your wraps to be "prayer shawls"? I don't know that I've ever made a prayer shawl specifically, but there's a lot of love that goes into every stitch, and I know those recipients feel it. Thank you for such a sweet and thoughtful comment! You are a gem!
Only once. I met a lady coming out of the hospital entrance, leaning on her husband's arm. Our eyes met and, in a flash, I saw deep sadness in her face. She commented on the wrap I had made with Premier Garden yarn in a rainbow color way. I didn't hesitate a moment, but placed the wrap around her shoulders with a hug. Though I don't know her name, she was the beginning of my God's Love shawl and wrap ministry. I still pray for her.
What a compliment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope you have fun making a shawl! Please do let me know if there's a particular pattern you go with! 💛💚💙

Thank You for sharing your shawls. I love making things that can be worn and Shawls are one of my favorites. Personally I love the long rectangular shawls because I can make them with pockets.
You showed up in my 'feed' and since I am interested in learning crochet, specifically to make a shawl, this was a fascinating episode to watch. I love your exuberance and all the shawls are lovely! I am a Hand-Spinner - mostly of wool - and knit so I am looking to branch out into Crochet to make something of all the balls of yarn I have made.
I Love your story about the shawls thank you 🎉🎉❤❤❤my husband and I have been together 35 years the 8th of September.❤ now that's a whole long time and I buy more and more yarn and he just shakes his head and laugh "s
Thirty-five years! That is truly amazing. Well done, and happy anniversary in advance! Yes, I asked my husband not to buy me flowers - I'd much rather have yarn lol.
Hi, Mary! Beautiful video! Your video appeared on my UA-cam page recently. Thank you so much for inspiring me to start crocheting triangular shawls. I started crocheting recently with the idea of crocheting prayer shawls, so I have started with simple shawls as a way for me to learn the basics. The information about the yarns and links you have provided are really helpful. I have subscribed and will be following you often. All the best in life!
Yay! I'm so glad you've found joy in crocheting, and I'm so glad to be a part of your journey, in whatever capacity. I love how triangle shawls can have such simple patterns but be so strikingly beautiful! I'm sure yours will turn out wonderfully well!
Absolutely loved your fashion show of shawls. I'll have to check out the Catalina Shawl. I'm a hippie 😆 🤣 I love making shawls, but don't go out much now that I'm retired, so I usually donate them. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous creations.
You are the sweetest, Mama G! You make my heart smile 😘 Where do you donate your shawls? I know folks do "prayer shawls" for various charities. I ought to look more into those! ❤💛💙
Dee's creative hands crochet. Her daughter works at an elderly home and collects them for residents and lap blankets for the gentlemen. Plus, my local elderly housing.
I absolutely love shawls- triangle shawls are my fav. Orange and pink are my neutrals😊In the Fall, my waredrobe in very plain to play up my handmade pieces.
Ahhh I love it! Like-minded once again! I'd like to branch out more into sunnier colors. I can see how pink and orange would work as neutrals - especially in the fall! Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Marquita! I love connecting with you!
Love shawls, too! It's one of my favorite projects. Yours are beautiful. Thanks for the video. It helped me realize I'm not the only one crazy about shawls 😊
He thought yarn was called ‘shawl’ 🥹💕 That is TOO adorable!! I so enjoyed hearing your thoughts, memories and stories behind each of these gorgeous shawls 💚 I know a girl shouldn’t pick favourites, but my gosh… shawl #3 is just absolutely epic!! Love the styling options you demonstrated for us. Oops, I spoke too soon…#5…my word..SO pretty!! I get so confused with a basic scarf, I end up tying the thing in an knot and giving up in a huff. Clearly, I need to move in next door to you during the colder months 👋 “Hi wish-you-were-my-neighbour/shawl mentor” 😂 Your wearables are just beautiful, Mary 😍 Your tension is always flawless and your eye for colours and details 🎯 100% spot on every time xx
Lee, I would love to have you for my neighbor. The adventures we would have! I'm just thankful for this modern world we live in which can allow folks like us to connect. 💓💞💖
Thanks for sharing your crochet shawl journey. I love the story you tell about how your husband gave you a gift card for the yarn for your first big project which evolved into something you love.
I love a triangle crochet shawl! I’m so glad you popped into my thread. As soon as you wrapped up in it I went to Ravelry and added the Bruinen - so beautiful! Thank you!
Yay, I'm always glad to find another triangle shawl aficionado! I hope you enjoy making the Bruinen. Just thinking about it makes my fingers itch to make another. Thanks for your sweet compliments, and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Ah, thank you so much! That is so encouraging to hear! I'm so glad to find another shawl-lover, and I'm thankful you took the time to say so! You made my day! ❤️💙💚
I get so excited when I find someone else who loves shawls. It reminds me of that CS Lewis quote about friendship -- "What, you too? I thought I was the only one!" (Or something like that!) Thanks for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment!
Your shawls are simply stunning. I have been hooked for quite some time on the Kalinda shawl and the Hitchiker. Kalinda is crochet and Hitchiker is knitted. Use both for just about any occasion. Stay safe and creative.
Thank you! I have had Kalinda in my favorites for some time! It really is beautiful! I'll have to look at the Hitchhiker (even though I am not a knitter) ❤️
Your shawls are beautiful! I’ve made 3 rectangle shawls and 1 triangle. 1 of the rectangles was for a friends daughter to wear at her outside wedding if it were to get chilly. That one was super fun! The only triangle I have done thus far is the Road Trip Shawl. I do have a couple Two of Wands shawl patterns saved. I’m inspired to create anew one. 🙋🏼♀️ Off to dig into my yarn stash and see what catches my eye. New Subscriber. I love your calm demeanor. ❤
Hi there, yes I'm very interested in shawls for just wearing to take the chill off in any time you would want the coziness of wearing your shawl , thanks for taking the time to share ,I luv the shawls you have been showing ❤
@@slowcrochet How's this for nerd - I once contacted a guy who ran an Elvish website to help me differentiate a saying from Queenya and Sindarin. I had it tatood on my ankle (in Queenya of course) Now....what kind of shawl would Galadriel wear? 😉😂👍
Wow, what a compliment! That sincerely means a lot to me. And thank you for subscribing! I appreciate that you took the time to do so and to let me know! Have a lovely day!
💟You are so sweet and your delight infectious... thank you for sharing your shawl loves. I'm inspired! I think shawls and wraps are lovely...and a wardrobe must have ❤ I was searching for a shawl pattern to make as a gift to a friend; so glad to have come across your video.
I love crocheting shawls too and olive green is also one of my all time favourite colours. I have mainly crocheted the pineapple shawl in different lengths. Loving your selection and will try one of your recommended designs soon. Thanks for sharing! Big hugs from London UK 🤗🤗
Big hugs right back from hot and humid Nashville! I've only ever made one pineapple shawl, but I'll have to make another. There's so many variations on that design, it's so versatile! I bet yours are gorgeous - especially in our favorite olive green 💚💚💚 Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. Means the world to me! 💌💘
Just discovered your channel and love shawls too! Thank you for sharing these new to me patterns! I look forward to catching up on your older videos.😊❤
Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I'm always glad to find another shawl-lover, and I'm so happy I could introduce you to some of my favorite patterns! Thanks for taking a minute to comment! Means a lot! 💖
How beautiful! I especially love the green one, my favorite color as wel, but all of these are gorgeous. I'm mainly a quilter, but crochet is my second hobby and I'm hoping for cooler weather soon so I can get back to it. I love making shawls, too! I'll have to do some tassels on the next one. I love that look, Mary, as well as how you use them as cushy scarves wrapped from the front and back around-the tassels really make that look pop, IMO. ~Cynthia, N. GA mountains
Hi Ms. Cynthia! I'm practically your neighbor! Thank you for your sweet, thoughtful words! You really made my heart smile. I hope you have a beautiful day - or evening - whenever this finds you! Hang in there until this summer finally breaks!
Yes, we are pretty much neighbors. We used to own acreage up there in Fentress County, too, actually. You really made me yearn for Fall weather with your beautiful creations! Glad you popped up in my feed. ~Cynthia
Omygosh. I love every single one. I’ve done a few shawls and i hesitate on making shawls because they seem intricate!!! I’ve had a yarn that I love and want to make something as unique as these!!!!
Thanks so much, darlin'! I bet you could do more than you think. I say go for it! Use that glorious yarn and enjoy the learning process! You've got this!
I love the outlander shawls that Claire wears and I have made them a little bit longer so they come down some in the back. I sit on the patio in the fall and winter and this is better than a sweater. Also, I like the more solid crochet for those to keep me warmer. I absolutely loved the ones you have made, they are really pretty.
I really love the look of these shawls! I also love some interesting texture. It's been a while since I made a crochet shawl (currently working on my first knit mini asymmetrical shawl) so might consider one of these to begin working on soon.
Favorite are the bigger ones lol the designs are so cool and interesting. I'm the type that gets bored easily so with those designs I won't be bored lol. Thank you for sharing
I love shawls, and I've kept a few that I've made and given several away. It’s been a while since I've made one! I definitely see another shawl make in my future! All your shawls are just beautiful. You are so talented. 🥰
Thank you for that review, it was very helpful. I made one shawl in my life and it took forever! The pattern was called something like "Play Offs Shawl" because one was supposed to be able to crochet it in the time it takes to watch a sports game. I don't watch sports but that pattern was so complicated that I couldn't watch anything because I had to concentrate on it - and it took months to finish because I didn't enjoy it so I kept putting it down in frustration. It is finally done and I do love the end result. Now I will consider one of the patterns you suggested that seem a bit less intense :)
There's a fine line between "challenging yourself to grow" and "enjoying the learning process". Well done for pressing on and getting it done! I cannot imagine making a whole shawl during a game! I'll try to find that pattern, though. You've piqued my interest! Thank you! 😁❤
Hi Mary. I’ve only made one crochet shawl, I’m more of a knitter. I made the Celia shawl in yarn I won many years ago. It went so fast compared to my knitted shawls. Take care Rosy
Thank you algorithm! I love a shawl. Great for those freezing cold -- haha -- days we get here when it gets below 20 and I have to go outside. Will be investigating these for sure.
Thank you so much! I'm sure you could handle them! It's amazing how a few simple stitches in different arrangements can create such complicated-looking designs. You've got this! :-)
I'm living in the California valley where the weather isn't shawl friendly. I basically didn't need something to cover my shoulders with until now. I'm not able to walk, so sitting most of the time with a crocheted blanket got old real fast. I wanted something pretty to cover my legs up while driving my mobility scooter inside the hospitalwhen Ihad my lab work. Not sure which yarn to use, but you just gave me all kinds of ideas. Thank you for your video. The church ladies are going to ask me where I got the patterns. Bless you for sharing.
Hi, dear heart! Thank you for sharing your story with me! What an overcoming soul you have! I'm so glad my video could encourage you and give you some ideas! ❤💙💜
I love the shawls. I love making shawls but give them away. However just like you I have done favourites. Your shawls are gorgeous. Mine are more plain. I should be more dating and try more intriguing patterns
How adorable are you! I seen something about wool, putting it in cold water 30 minutes squeezing out the water then adding hair conditioner on the side close to your body. Make sure to dry it so it doesn’t mold.
I made a video showing the shawls in more detail, for those who are interested: ua-cam.com/video/zeuMJ1VuUvQ/v-deo.htmlsi=ECOZKWVQdO2aRxN1
Thank you for taking the time and effort to do that. It was a real treat to see them so clearly in all of their splendor ✨

I absolutely love the color way of the green and gray behind you.
Thank you so much! ☺️💞
Thank you for modeling your shawls - each one prettier than the next. I have a soft spot for Bruinen (Lord of the Rings fan here!) 😊😊
You are so sweet, thank you! And I am always happy to find another member of the Fellowship ;-) Careful - I may go full nerd on you lol!
@@slowcrochet How's this for nerd - I once contacted a guy who ran an Elvish website to help me differentiate a saying from Queenya and Sindarin. I had it tatood on my ankle (in Queenya of course) Now....what kind of shawl would Galadriel wear? 😉😂👍
Your shawls are beautiful and have renewed my interest in crocheted triangular shawls. Thank you for sharing these with us -- subscribed! 👍
Wow, what a compliment! That sincerely means a lot to me. And thank you for subscribing! I appreciate that you took the time to do so and to let me know! Have a lovely day!

💟You are so sweet and your delight infectious... thank you for sharing your shawl loves. I'm inspired!
I think shawls and wraps are lovely...and a wardrobe must have ❤
I was searching for a shawl pattern to make as a gift to a friend; so glad to have come across your video.
How kind you are! Thank you so much for your sweet encouragement! Glad I could inspire you! 💘💘
Theyre all beautiful!
Thanks, sweet friend! You're always so encouraging!
Those are stunning ❤❤. Shawls are my fav thing to make. I always have one on the hook. Thank you for sharing 😊
Yay! Another shawl aficionado! [[High fives]] I need to get another one on the hook ASAP. What weight of yarn do you tend to use for your shawls?
Your Lovely Shawls have inspired me! Thank you for sharing
@@wilmakendall111 what a compliment! Thank you so much! 🥰💗💞
Beautiful shawls. I made two shawls this year, and I really enjoyed making them. Can’t wait to make more.
Thank you so much! They really are a joy, aren't they! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Beautiful shawls 💞💗❤️💖💖 thank you for sharing 💖💖💖
My pleasure! And thank you! 💕
~Cynthia
I LOVE YOUR SHAWL... I❤ I LOVE C2C STICH 👌THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US 💐
Thank you so much! C2C is such a versatile stitch! I bet you make beautiful things with it! 💓💞
Hi! Found your channel today and I am enjoying your chats and your beautiful work. Congratulations. Subscribed and will keep watching. Crochet on. 🧶
Aww, I'm so glad you found me! Thanks for taking the time to encourage me! 🥰 You're the best!
I finally did and I love it!!!!
Thank you! Shawls really are the perfect midpoint between a fluffy robe and a whole blanket, aren't they. Thanks for your sweet comment!
I really love the look of these shawls! I also love some interesting texture. It's been a while since I made a crochet shawl (currently working on my first knit mini asymmetrical shawl) so might consider one of these to begin working on soon.
Thank you! Wow, a knit asymmetrical shawl! Sounds so lovely! Have a beautiful day!
I too love making shawls - look forward to trying these!
Aww, I'm so glad to know another fan of shawls! I hope you enjoy these patterns! 💗💞
Luv your shawls!
Luv your personality!!
You've got yourself a new follower🙂

Favorite are the bigger ones lol the designs are so cool and interesting. I'm the type that gets bored easily so with those designs I won't be bored lol. Thank you for sharing
My absolute pleasure! Thanks for being so encouraging!

I've only made a virus shawl, but I love these five shawls! Thank you for showing how they look when you're wearing them!

You are so welcome! Thank you for your sweet compliment!
I love shawls, and I've kept a few that I've made and given several away. It’s been a while since I've made one! I definitely see another shawl make in my future! All your shawls are just beautiful. You are so talented. 🥰
Aww, Marsha, you are so kind! Thank you! I'm glad to be part of your "quilting bee" 💗💞💕

Thank you! 😁❤
I love knitting and crocheting shawls...I wear them alot!
Yay! Always so fun to find another fan of shawls! ❤️❤️❤️
I hope one day to have your skills! Working on it. Doing a velvet hooded shawl right now. Well done vids.❤
Oohhh velvet shawl! Sounds beautiful! Thank you for your sweet encouragement! ❤️💕
Hi Mary. I’ve only made one crochet shawl, I’m more of a knitter. I made the Celia shawl in yarn I won many years ago. It went so fast compared to my knitted shawls.
Take care
Rosy
Hi Rosy! Thanks for your sweet comment! Have a lovely day!
Just found your channel and really enjoyed your shawls. I, too, love making shawls
So glad you found me! I'm always so happy to run across someone who shares my loves! Have a beautiful day!
Love your style and those shawls are ❤❤❤❤.
Thank you so much! How encouraging you are!
I love each shawl they are so beautiful!!
Aww, thank you so much! 💓💕💖
Thank you algorithm! I love a shawl. Great for those freezing cold -- haha -- days we get here when it gets below 20 and I have to go outside. Will be investigating these for sure.
I'm so glad you found me, and I hope you enjoy making some of these! Stay toasty!
Your smile is magnetic!!
Aww, thank you! I'm blushing! ☺🥰
I am glad I ran across this vlog. Thank you.
I'm glad you found me! Thanks for taking the time to tell me so! Have a lovely day!
#4 was stunning, such work💝
Thank you so much!
Your shawls are beautiful and love the patterns. Hopefully will be confident in making one of these in the future.
Love all your shawls. I have made to shawls using shawl in a ball yarn. I don't remember the pattern but, I think it was from yarn inspiration
Ooh, I bet they turned out gorgeous! Shawl in a Ball is so lovely. Thanks for taking the time to comment! I appreciate you!
I love the shawls. I love making shawls but give them away. However just like you I have done favourites. Your shawls are gorgeous. Mine are more plain. I should be more dating and try more intriguing patterns
Thank you! I do love how simple repetition can be so pleasing and beautiful. I'm sure your "plain" ones are actually gorgeous!
The 1st one is so pretty! Everyone is getting shawls for Christmas this year!
Ooohhh, how wonderful it must be to be one of your "everyone"! 💞💕
How adorable are you! I seen something about wool, putting it in cold water 30 minutes squeezing out the water then adding hair conditioner on the side close to your body. Make sure to dry it so it doesn’t mold.
Interesting! I've not tried that! ❤️❤️
