- This week, I learned how to make mustache wax! Now I can finally fulfill my dream of looking like a Civil War General. I found that the best ratio for what I need of beeswax to coconut oil is 2:1. Maybe you'll find that you need something different! Give this a try and let me know how it works!

i just went down a Mustache rabbit hole, looked at 4 videos before yours, you are easily the better video, showing how the wax worked and experimenting was really helpful, sense of humor and cadence made it easy to stay to the end, really well done, got a sub and a like, keep them coming
If you want a really strong mixture, add a couple of small spoons of natural honey, the change is amazing, and honey is beneficial for the hair, doing that you will already have a good aroma of honey and you will not need essential oils.
Glad you figured out about the essential oils. Also, try melting your wax first since it takes longer to break down then add your coconut oil.
I don't care about mustache wax AT ALL, but I still watched tf out of this video. Bro, you should do some vlogs, you make me feel chill with your good vibes!

Hey, Luke!
I loved this vid of yours and made the wax myself together wih my 12-year-old daughter.
She was responsible for the scents (sandalwood + lemon), together we put it into cream containers. We had a lot of fun following your hints and testing your recipe!
Thanks a lot!
Luke (Lutz) from Germany
I like sandlewood and lemon
6 years later, and this is still the best video on this topic!
I have just ordered bees wax and hope to get some coconut oil tomorrow to make my own. As you say it can be a nightmare to eat somethings with a strong mustache. As I seem to be cutting mine every morning it grows so fast.
Nice, short and sweet video. Thanks brother!
Looks good my brother. I’ve been growing my beard and stache for the past two months. You did a great job on the video. I’m looking for a very firm hold. And you got pinned punted it!!! Great job’
Thanks for the great video and ratio experiment. Kinda what i planned to do but you saved me time. I may add a little pine rosin.
I haven’t read through the comments, but in case someone hasn’t mentioned it... substitute mango butter. It seems to me to work better than shea butter. It feels less greasy and works just as well.
Thanks sir for this video. I was wondering about the ratios.
thanks mate love the presentation my wife had lavender and eucalyptus. man the shop was closed well gave you time for an early beer.
I made some wax before. It was a little greasy so I tried the 2:1 beeswax to Coconut oil and it was so hard, no way was it going into my 'stache so I went back and forth a few time adding 1/8 tsp of oil trying to find that perfect blend. I want it to go on quick, no hair dryers no fuss...I have my latest batch setting up as we speak..
Awesome video! Very comprehensive and didactic. Thank you for your job. Regards
you can make seasonal beard oil too like bayberry or frankincense for x=mas, or pumpkin and cinnamon for thanksgiving etc..........go big:)
LOL
Have you tried sudden death?
Great video. Stache looks good bro.
You can microwave it instead of double boiling; just keep an eye on it while it's melting.
Started making my own wax recently, and the 2:1 ratio is what I went with straight away. It does sometimes feel a bit too tacky, but part of that is that I suffer the misfortune of having thin, greasy hair to begin with so it doesn't take much for it to feel "bogged down." I might experiment with a 1.5:1 ratio at some point. One piece of advice, though: I would avoid the tea tree oil. While it does have a reputation as being "good for hair," a lesser known fact is that it diminishes testosterone, which in turn inhibits facial hair growth. So it might make your mustache "healthier," but it won't grow as well. Another little tip is to add a dash of powdered Arnica. It not only has its own "hair health" benefits, it also adds a tiny bit of "Dryness" to keep the wax from melting out of your mustache throughout the day (something you probably noticed happening during the warmer seasons).
I've also begun to experiment with creating my own beard butter, using a ratio of 1:6:6 beeswax, coconut oil, and Shea butter. And another dash of Arnica just because. It's mainly a sort of after-shower conditioner and softener so your beard doesn't feel as scratchy and isn't as prone to getting tangled, as well as offering subtle shaping. Upping the wax portion would make it better for shaping but will also increase that "tackiness" that could make it more difficult to work into the beard, so I'm leaving the ratio alone for now. I had to get the Shae butter on Amazon because I don't know of any local sources that sell it. Same with the Arnica powder, actually. So far I've been able to source wax from local beekeepers (which I feel adds more "personal charm" to the products as opposed to buying everything from "big companies") but I may have to look into the nearest Ace to see if they carry it. AS much as I prefer locally sourcing as many ingredients as I can, it's not always a consistent option.
Also, a small crock pot/slow cooker works well in place of a double boiler. Picked up a small (maybe 36oz) one at a tag sale for five bucks last summer. It's worked great. Get yourself some silicone-coated utensils (spatula, whisk) to make clean-up easier (once the wax cools mostly just flakes right off, or wipe it off with a paper towel while it's still soft).
Well I just followed your instructions and I now have a really good moustache wax. I used Sicilian lemon and lime as scent. Thanks for uploading.
Thanx i liked your idea, I will try it. You are right the cost of this stuff is High.
That's a great alternative to a double boiler. I was about to bring out mine but then I thought, "That's a lot of water to heat up for just an ounce project." Then my wife asked, "Why don't you use the microwave oven." I'll try that next time. Medium to low power, of course. The 50/50 blend is working well. I might stiffen it up. I didn't use any essential oils. The beeswax and coconut oil has a subtle enough aroma. I think my next step is trimming issues. Thanks for the video.
Nice vid, I appreciated the honesty with the multiple attempts (and melted strainer!). BTW, that wasn't a Pirates of the Caribbean look; it was straight Cowboys of Tombstone. 100%.
Love your personality! I made a 1:1 TBLS with 2 drops of Bergamot. You’re right, not tacky enough. Looks like 2:1 is too tacky for me so I’ll try 4:3 next. Also, the essential oils don’t last. Did your 12 drop actually yield 12 drop per container or was that before some of it vaporized off?
Dude, are you still making that? I would love to try some and rate it
Try adding one part lanolin to your 2:1 beeswax/coconut. That's some tacky stuff, and good for your hair/skin. Great video, good editing too.
Rodger Cooley I was going to post the same thing
I’ve also seen some use a bit of pine rosin in the mix
You might try a hair dryer as a option to melt the wax
I made a batch using unrefined virgin coconut oil. This was a mistake it came out gritty. I do not recall it pointing out it was better to use refined coconut oil
Great video, gracias
I just tried to melt 50 grs of bee's wax in a double boiler. After 45 mins it did not melted. Input welcome
👍 common sense approach very very cool gonna do this right away
loved this, im going to try for brows
Hi dude, some weeks ago I did it the same, but with almond oil and bio beeswax, in a 1:2 ratio.
Quickly melted directly in a pan.
It results like glue, with a white layer on the hair that disappear with breath heath (or mask heath during corona ahahah)
Now I see your video, looks nice anyway
great video.. Going to make some right now !
Great vid dude. I will try out the 2:1 ratio for sure. Cheers!
I use one from Badger its pretty strong, so I think the less oil in the ratio the stronger it is.
@@radesaul Great. Still waiting on my supply of beeswax but will let you know how I go. Cheers.
I've not made a wax myself yet.. But I've bought some equipment and ingredients to start making beard balms (first and foremost) and beard butter. Thinking of making some mustache wax as well, having it in a lip balm container 😀 if the stache gets messy during the day.
Update : I've made some beard-balm which turned out pretty good. I don't want my balm to be too hard. But it was simply:
2 tsp beeswax
2 tsp shea butter
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp jojoba oil
1 tsp apricot kernel oil
I added essential oils, lime and peppermint.
I think I'll add a bit more wax the next time. I'm gonna experiment with textures.
Luke Brown I did another recipe today. But I now measure in grams..
15 grams beeswax
5 grams shea butter
5 grams coconut oil
10 grams of liquid carrier oils of choice. I mixed jojoba, apricot kernel and avocado oil.
I added some lime, lemon grass and ceder wood for the scent.
I really like the texture of it and works good for my beard. Which is a bit longer than yours in this video.
This recipe gave 50 ml of balm. Which I think is about 1,5 ounces.
Luke Brown The recipe I posted is more of a balm. 😁 Ive not done any wax yet.. But I figure it's mostly a matter of texture. More or less beeswax does the work.
But like I wrote, this was a balm I made.
What's the scent of frankensense like?
Henrik Bæckström thanks for the recipes dude.
I’m going to try them out haha
@@HENKO_BEATS Gonna give this a try man!
Thanks 👍
i tried it, beeswax and coconut oil, its too flakey , i used a hair dryer too..tried making it with more oil..still too much white flakey wax showing on my state
if nobody mentioned before me, it lacks some pine tree resin. thanks for your video
What's the ratio if I'm using beeswax, lanolin, and pine resin?
Add pine rosin in one part
Ron Swanson and Dwight Shrute had a baby boy
I am here. BUT I must say, It's MOUSTACHE!!!
I made the mistake of using "Quickset Concrete mix" with a little touch of. Ode deskunk oil. Now my Moutachio is like a rock. Anyone got a jackhammer available? :-))
death grip wax is the best, but i don't use it all the time cause it requires a hair dryer, so i will try yo shizzle
The Cheech Martin sniff 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i have use wax from a sented candled and girl friend complained about the wick. she gave me some bees wax. im off and running
The big sniff cracked me up.
Did you just put the coconut oil directly on the scales? You are so lucky we are not married!
Send me some! I need me some sandlewood though
Tachy-er moustache wax, one could add resin as well. Much stiffer hold.
Why does the frying pan look like Michael Myers is watching you?
great video!
I hope your lady likes the scent too
Convert your scale to grams not difficult a lot more accurate
Use something more conductive than glass, and glass won't explode unless you have a major pressure or temp change. For ex: I had a jar of jam blow up on me and I had no shirt on... Melting sugar is the worst down your abs and... Pants
Oh and boar brush will spread out that wax evenly
Must be nice. I use Elmer's Glue😂
haha cool this is better then buying that expensive brand name stuff
11:04 oh so you just made moustache wax using moustache wax as an ingredient? Cool (j/k I know you meant beeswax lol)
Does your mustache smell like the Lord, with all that frankincense in it? You can get myrrh essential oil, too!
Great video man, fig and nurmeg is grat for aroma, Iḿ a rose man my self, roses are living dinosaures so for a paleontologist with a mustache that woks for me very good.
I look like a pirate of the Caribbean haha
Butt pirate of the GaryBatty more like
I’m originally from Hot Springs
Convection oven
I’ve cooked enough crack to know unless the jar is freezing cold the jar won’t explode!!!
Seriously handsome.
i did the same thing i microwaved it hugs wheelchair larry
Sorry about that but she knows the true I Value
Firehouse Wacky Tacky is WAY better than Captain Fawcett.
have you used both, i feel fawcett is better because its not so aggressive on the hairs
Can't like you because you have 420 likes. Right?
Or...how I'm bored out of my mind so I decided to make some stache wax. Next up, my video on the art of watching grass grow.
This recipe is NOT a very good hold at all, and it seems to be the "go to" recipe for most people. For once i would like to find a recipe that was actually for a strong hold wax, but that wont happen because It doesn't exist ANYWHERE on the entire internet! Only the same old mushy recipes over and over.
BeelzeBeard Beard Co. pine tree resin and or lanolin as well as coconut oil, and beeswax and essential oils
@@cloud_monkey422 i have all of that except pine rosin, i also have shea and cocoa butter. I'm driving myself crazy trying to make this mustache wax, i can't figure out the right ratio. But i do know that equal parts of beeswax and essential oils create mush.
BeelzeBeard Beard Co. I am sorry as I didn’t realize I never finished what I was saying lol
Didn’t even leave a period haha
Anyways that’s what I’ve read a few times to make a strong hold.
I personally have not tried it.
@@cloud_monkey422 i have purchased some with pine rosin in the mix, and its so tacky that it pulls my mustache hairs out, so im trying to create a strong hold wax that isn't so thick and tacky that it's impossible to work with.
BeelzeBeard Beard Co. have you tried doing it while your hairs are damp?
Pulling a few out is normal and is just the dead hairs or hairs that are weak and or at the end of their life.
So a few is normal but anything over like 10 is not normal
Thanks for this.
