Really interesting video. Can’t believe how quiet that router is. Wow. Looks a great piece of kit. On a side note the collet should come out of the nut without force. Normally rotate collet and angle it at the same time. Should just pop out. Look forward to next video.
Hi Richard, I think you could tell by the look on my face I was stunned by how smoothly that router ran. Even when it is loaded up, it just feels like quality. Dare I say - even in a way the Festool never did. Thank you for the tip on the collect - I will give that a go. Really didn’t like having to tap it. Cheers Andy

Hi Andy, can you tell me the thickness of the MDF you are using? I’m using 25 mm MDF, without the metal 1 mm plate, which gives me 15mm MDF remaining for the routerlift to sit on. Would this be sufficient or do you recommend glueing some extra strip as you did to make it a bit stronger?
Hi, I used 19mm Valchromat MDF, so it is a bit denser than MDF. But even then, I created a frame under the cut out using more 19mm stock to give it extra strength. It is a pretty weighty bit of kit, so I wanted to ensure it was supported. Andy
Brilliant follow up, Andy. The sound level of the router is a real bonus. I was going to be installing this alongside a Trend T11 in my benchtop as I wasn't sure it would handle raised panel bits. Looks like the T11's going to be up for sale now :)
Hi Harry, I couldn’t believe how quite it was - I had to check it was working. And it has enough torque and capacity to knock out raised panels all day. That ability is an important feature for me. It is one of the reasons why I wanted to bring in something more substantial than the CMS with the OF1440 I will make a video at some point about raised panel doors, I have a gorgeous cabinet set from Summerfield that I have never used as I never had a router that was up to the job. Cheers Andy
Yes that was amazingly quiet. It's passing all the tests so far (good to see those insert rings sitting flush) - can't see you sending this back to Sauter with a 'thanks, but no thanks.' Top notch review, mate. Answering a lot of questions I was going to be asking. Looking forward to the next one, and the raised panel doors one too.
Hi Harry, Yes I may make the raised panel one, as the project I will be building (have built) is more about testing the accuracy and ‘delicate’ end of the system. So it would be worth while putting that torque to task. Cheers Andy

Ah I see, You could make an internal jig pretty easily. From memory in the internal corners, I relied on the diameter of the bush. Then I used a corner template on the external to match it. That wouldn’t be to hard in Fusion, what size are you looking for I could knock something up and drop it onto the web site.
Hi Mark, Thank you, I am keeping the CMS as a mini table saw with the TS55. I find I use the router so much in my workflow that I didn’t want to keep sealing the router in and out. I looked at the OF2200 as a perm solution - but at the price point it made sense to build a solution. Also it allows me to get some space back in the shop - for the CNC that is arriving in December. All these problems :-) Cheers Andy
Hi John, You would have to wrestle that fence out of my cold dead hands. I have build a small plate that attaches it to the MFT module on the left hand side. So now I can use the full extension of the fence and it’s a more solid mounting. There will be a video on how I made that plate at some point as a few people have expressed an interest in attaching it to an MFT - without the crown mouldings. Cheers Andy
Hi Andy great demo, that was their larger router, 1800, do you think the 1550 would be enough for rail and style doors, some in ash but mainly MDF, cheers Kevin
Hi Kevin, Yes this is a very large spindle. It handles everything I throw at it (and more) I think the 1550 would be a good choice however, it doesn’t come with a 1/2” Chuck. My raised panel bits are all 1/2” hence going for the big beast. If that is not a consideration for you, then yes I think the 1550 is a good choice. Cheers Andy
Hi, and thank you for your comments. If you mean an external connection to allow for speed control from an external device, then no it doesn’t offer that feature. It does have speed control on the spindle itself. I haven’t done a sound test on the Festool in the CMS, but it is an order of magnitude quieter even under load. If I get 5 mins spare, I will drop Festool into the router and drop the results here. Cheers Andy
I was toying with the idea of purchasing this very kit when I stumbled upon your excellent channel . Wasn't sure if I should buy another dewalt or upgrade to the trend 11k . I've had a couple of dewalt 612's whose gear burnt out, I've been told they're uneconomical to repair. Ironically I have put my 30 year old elu 177e back into my shop made router table and it's still working ( despite the spindle lock casing shearing off). I was worried the sheuer 1800 watt motor would be underpowered compared to the dewalt/ trend routers. Clearly not from your demonstration. I'll probably make my own fence. Although it's over twice the price it appears far better quality. Out of interest what kind of warranty does the motor come with? Looking forward to seeing your next video Keep up the excellent work Many thanks
Hi, The 1800W has huge torque - I don’t think it is going to struggle. Somebody else asked me about the ability to make raised panel doors. So I will knock up an oak panel and use the largest Sommerfield raised panel bit I have to make an OAK raised panel door. That will give it a test. I think the Warranty is 13 months BUT I have asked Sauter Shop to clarify, and will come back to you if that’s not the case. Cheers Andy
