A WARNING TO PEOPLE BUILDING A SIMILAR ROUTER TABLE: I did a very similar build but when I went to route out the channel for the “miter slot” I happened to have put a screw for the side rail in that exact spot and therefor I attempted m to route through a screw with a straight bit. Keep that in mind when installing the screws from below and marking for your slot or T-tracks!

Keith, you did a great job on this router set up. In my opinion, including the router on your table saw table instead of having a separate router table is one of the best ways to maximize space in a small workshop. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
i have a little one i built on the side of my job site dewalt saw. uses the same fence (with added MDF like keith). i work from a single garage so space always a premium. unlike these americans with their huge workshops :)

Looks very nice l have made my router table on it’s own and I used some perpex 15mm thick for my bed works a dream your router lift looks very nice but I do use 1/2” router bits in my table thank you for your video stay safe

Nice. I'm about to do this with my DeWalt saw... I already have a router table built (sits in a B&D workmate) but combining the two so you can use the table saw fence as you demonstrate is my plan also. From experience I can say you're going to end up adding T-track across the fence as well so that you can use feather boards there (and stops and other gizmos).

Hi Keith. What a very substantial router lift mechanism with nice long depth adjusting guides, I've never seen one built like that before.

Nice job Kieth. Great lift's and motors aren't they? Like the home-forged fence and feather boards to. Great idea mounting to the table saw fence. With it set up and ready to go, I bet you'll be surprised how often you use it. They're versatile beasties.

I found a good tip for mounting a router lift. The grub screws won't help level your lift if you are just screwing them into the wood (they eventually sink into the wood over time). I created a sheet metal shim ring to fit between the wood and the grub screws which nicely solves the problem.
Cheers, the router lift actually comes with some small round metal shims, which I assumed (without reading the manual) are for that purpose. I fitted them after making the video, and you're right, it certainly helps stop the grub screws from digging in to the wood
Very nice! I love that lever that instantly releases the router's collet for bit changes. I've never seen a router with that feature over here in the US market. On my router table I have to raise the router almost all the way so I can get the collet wrenches in there. One thing you may want to add eventually is a box to enclose the router under the table, so you can attach a vacuum hose to it for dust collection when you're not using the fence. Hopefully that can be done without interfering with the quick release lever. Or maybe you could attach the box using magnets so it's easy to remove the whole thing.
Anyway, nice job. I'm sure you'll enjoy having a good router table. It makes some jobs a lot easier.
Thanks Laura, yeah it's certainly a nice little party trick / feature. That's actually a great idea about the dust enclosure underneath. I've already used the table more times than I expected I would, and dust does get underneath

Quite often it is not the motor that makes the majority of the noise on machines, but the spinning blade and the cutting of the wood. Try your table saw with the blade below the table compared to when it is fully up. Huge difference.

you may want to consider putting a small chamfer on the bottom of the adjustable fences. This is so if you have any dust build up against the fence it should go in the small chamfer between the bottom and the table and this will ensure your piece you are routing stays perfectly flush with the fence. But nice build
Nice build, and you've definitely chosen a good router motor in that Mafell unit. But I would strongly advise you to use the fence when machining with bearing guided cutters...use a straight edge across the fence aperture and set it so that the front of the fence aligns with the bearing...you will get much more support during the cut, and its less likely that the workpiece will fly out of your hand and pull your fingers into the cutter.

@@RagnBoneBrown there are some good safety tips on router tables at Brainfizz routing and making channel - I would post a link, but I have no idea how that works!
No need to use the bearing if one is using the fence, just take the bearing off and put it in a safe place. The working life of bearings on router cutters is limited.

I added one to my table saw and it totally changed the way I look at how I do things. Before, I was very hesitant to use a router to cut grooves and dados. Previous efforts were never satisfactory. With a router table, and especially one with plenty of surface area on the table saw, it's become my method of choice.

You have a flaw in the exact same place as me 🤣, If it makes you feel any better I did it in the second table I made as well !!!! Its a quality set up especially with the 8mm bits, so easy to swap between bits.

Whenever I have to cut a bolt down, I first thread a nut on. Removing that nut helps clear any burrs on the end of the bolt.

Thread some holes under the grub screws and add some bolts so that the grub screws for levelling the router plate push of the head of the bolts. It will stop the router plate sinking over time.
Also, 1000w seems very very week for a router table, I get that it was free and although I like the quick release, it seems very expensive for such a low powered motor. With 2, or 2.4kw you'll find you get a lot cleaner results as the spindle isn't being stressed to 90-100% capability every time your routing a dado.
If only used for trim with a bearing, a palm router is quicker and easier.

Near £800 worth of free tools, lucky you, I built mine with a cheap aluminium router plate (e-bay) and the brilliant Katsu trim router from Aimtools UK, the rest of the table from scraps - cost - under £50. Does the job. 😎 P.S. am not sponsored by e-bay, Katsu or Aimtools. 😕
As I point out in the video, this is a far more premium set up than I expected to have. Originally I was just planning on buying a plunge router with built in height adjustment and mounting it directly to the bottom of the table top. But it'd be mad to turn down such nice equipment
Lovely video and great to see how much can be done with some slightly lateral thinking and 'bits n pieces. Interesting to see the router table at the end of the fence guides but without any additional support. My impression the Axminster saw and similar, is that when they move one of the side tables to the other side and attach it to the remaining side table they then add support legs (actually part of the kit when Ax supply sliding saw where the two side table are used on the same side). Have you found it necessary, advisable or totally unnecessary to give any additional support to the router table.........either to limit tipping or to protect the fixing of the router table to the cast iron side table........I could see the weight and pressure on the table and the lever arm effect producing either a tilting force on the whole structure (appreciate the saw is quite heavy and stable itself!) or sagging at the joint between saw table and 'kitchen counter'. Hi Sarah, I think that having an extension table on the other side too helps with the weight distribution, but the body of the saw is incredibly heavy so I haven't found any problems with the router table needing support as it's very light in comparison 👍

I asked the same question on another chanel about a month ago and was told the prices vary alot depending on where you go from £70 to £120 for 18mm 8x4 sheet. I still do not know the best place to get it from though. It will be interesting to see what Keith says about price and who sells it.

Why did you want the face to be slightly below the table top? Won't material catch when you pass it through?
The plate comes with levelling grub screws. You slightly overcut the cut away to adjust for perfectly flush.
He shimmed the fence with a piece of paper so it would sit slightly above the table.
@@KSFWG he was referring to the router plate, but that IS a good idea to avoid it influencing the fence as well as giving a place for dust to get pushed out of the way.

I have to ask, what purpose does a comment like this serve? Are you basically saying that you'd prefer it if I didn't progress in life, and that you'd like me to basically keep making the same content every week? Or are you wanting me to feel guilty for what I have achieved with my channel (through much hard work I might add)? There are so many excellent woodworking channels catering for everyone at all levels of their woodworking journeys, many of which I have promoted on my channel - you really don't need to announce to me that you're no longer interested in what I do - I understand, and it goes without saying.
