wouldn't it be better to have a top face made from a low friction laminate rather than birch ply ? it would make your work piece glide past the cutting bit easier
Nicely done mate. They sent me some kit to look at too. I remember Andy from Sauter mentioning your channel but completely forgot until I uploaded my vid yesterday then, presto, your vid came up in the recommendations! Algorithm actually worked for once. I'll have a watch of some of your vids in the week. All the best. Stew
Cheers Stew I have been watching some of your videos keep up the great work.
Hi John, sauter have some great stuff and I am very lucky only living a couple of miles away from them here in southern Germany. Cheers, Ian
Interesting to hear your review on the plate. I’ve had a lot of problems with keeping the metal plate aligned. The magnets cause it to deflect down, and then the dust tends to build up under the plate and lift it up.
Yet to come across a bad/bad quality German tool, those guys really know their stuff, engineers in that country are geniuses
Right now, as a new retiree, I'm gradually setting up a small workshop in our barn.
I'm right at the stage of designing a workbench of 2m by 1.5m and round the perimeter will be my table saw, planer, mitre saw and also a router with insert plate.
These Sauter examples were absolutely gorgeous, but when I nipped over to their site and saw how much it was going to cost - well, my State Pension couldn't cover it. I'm rather disappointed, but still, I'll be looking forward to your future review of these tools.
Congrats on your retirement! Your workbench is bigger than my entire "shop" Hope you enjoy it
They have all the gear for diy router tables.
Looks like a great bit of kit.
I Hope to change up, in the new year.
I definitely will have a look.
Thanks John. 👍
No problem 👍
Hi John, nice piece of kit, 891 euro, expensive but nice. I think the release mechanism will be used by every other supplier soon. Thanks for sharing John
Thanks a million for this. Have been looking at one of the Sauter router lifts and this was really helpful!
Please ask them to send you one of their dovetail jigs -- would love to see you do a review of that!
nice bit of kit there john thanks for the update been looking for one of these
No problem 👍
Looks like good stuff. Can't believe it's made out of Aluuuuminum John !
😂🤣
Super dooper John, I'm really impressed :)
Great video and great router table but it will be a long time before I can afford £750 for a router and lift.
I was thinking NVR and you just mentioned it ,looks nice .
I really like this router
Noisy bugger though isn't it?
@@richardclarke9966 Its more my table then the router
Can you put a dust collection box in with that quick change handle ?
Hi, 1000w doesn't seem a lot for a router table. The big Triton is 2400w. Hope have you found using it? The fact it is quiet is appealing.
Hasn't lacked power for anything I have done on it yet.
I watch these videos in the USA and the comment about what power [output] is, it was answered by 1000w what i need to know is the input [because output will be the same all over the world], because its the only thing that will change all over the world, over here its 110v input and 60hz where as England is 240v and 50hz
I wonder if this can take the 60 Hz power we have in the US. It looks very nice.
What size snickers tshirt is that? Great videos! Keep it up!
Perfect timing, since I am in the process of designing my first routertable! The plate might be worth considering, the router itself looks awesome, but if Mafell made it, my wallet will probably disagree :D
Its about 600 euros worth of toys so you are correct!
they have a full range of parts for diy router tables might be worth a look if you are designing your own one.
Great video John very interesting, I like this setup, I have a great wee spindle moulder which I love but this is clever mate, regards Louie
Glad you enjoyed it
John, great to see an irish youtuber doing such quality content. as someone starting out, can i just ask, @10.39 in, how are you cutting flush with the template you made without cutting into it? does your bit have a spindle above the cutting edge or something?
The bit has a guide bearing that runs on the template it's the same diameter as the cutter.
the router chuck release may be neat , but if your making a cost effective router table, spending very close to £900 for a router and lift is contradictory. if your doing a budget upgrade you can get a router and lift for between £300 and £500, that means your paying £400 for the quick release. i will stick with the spanners. by the way according to the sauter site you can only buy the lift as package with router for 895 euro (with p+p nearly £900). i would suggest scewfix, amazon etc before paying a fortune for a handy gimmick.
You can buy the lift separately and they do a host of other routers, these are aimed more towards the professional user and the cnc market.
Great video 💪🏻 Did you ever make a follow up video - couldn’t find it 🤔
Check out my MFT table build, I built the router into it
Pretty fantastic looking hardware, John! Congrats!!! 😃
Well, I'm still just starting to buy my tools... But what I want to do is to buy one of those small routers and make a small router table. 😂
Anyway, I think it's going to be enough for a good time. 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hi John router table looks great. I have a metal workshop something like yours with six 4 foot floresent lights is there a kit to convert them to led. Seen some but all in the usa where they take all the insides out and rewire them. Might be a vidio for you in the future. I'm sure lots of guys are thinking the same.👍
if your flourescent lights have twist insert starters then converting is simples. buy the correct length led tube, it comes with a starter like fuse. light off remove old tube and starter, insert new dummy starter fuse marked led, insert led tube, turn on light enjoy . this i have done for all my old tubes in shop and house......IF YOUR OLD FLOURESCENT LIGHTS DO NOT HAVE A REMOVABLE STARTER DO NOT SIMPLY SWAP TUBES AS YOU WILL HAVE TO GET AN ELECTRICIAN TO REPLACE OR MODIFY YOUR LIGHT FITTING. the steps i suggested areONLY for lights with removable CAPSULE starter units.
I would love to see that set up in a cnc. I know what I want for Christmas
I have to be honest in saying that with the price of this plus the extra time, cost and effort of building a table, I would be inclined to pay the extra and get a little cast iron topped spindle moulder with router bit collett
Fitting professional tools in my budget built router table is odd and I get that, a professional user would go this direction, its just a way of me demonstrating these tools. I will eventually upgrade the table.
Nice bit of kit and for someone who routes professionally maybe worth the money but not for me. Nice though
If I'm reading that scale correctly each tick of the dial is 1/10 mm (0,1mm)
Thats correct, one complete rotation equals 4mm rise or fall
The kit looks beautiful. Any idea what the power output of the router is John ? and does this mean you might sell the Triton ?
The mother is 1000w I'll be keeping my Triton for hand held use.
Had a look at there shop. God they are expensive. There Trend Mk3 table is €375. I can get this in the UK for less than £200.
I just brought a festool router table and a festool router which was very expensive....... I wish I had seen this first 😫😫😫
Festool is pretty good stuff.
John Dia Duit, where do you get your baltic birch ply , Nice shed
Dia is muire Duit Bill, I get it from McMahons but most builders providers should do it.
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed John my apology I forgot to thank you for the speedy reply, can you pm me sometime we have a whole lotvin common, except my shed is a lot bigger than yours and no way as tidy. billlupton@gmail.com
A nice bit of kit but expensive considering you can buy a premium router table with dedicated Router, lift, fence, NVR etc for £699 (Rutlands). Nice bit of kit though....
They do all the gear for diy router tables which is worth a look.
Some of your Sauter links go to 404s John, just FYI. Great video though!
Thanks for the heads up I'll sort that
