Congratulations on your 10 year stretch! Tf2 has been with me since 2010 and it's been my go to game for fun. I'm happy there are still tf2ubers like you around and I can still go into a game and have so much fun. Thank you for your dedication to the channel and for trying to teach people how to play the game.
When I first started in mid 2017, I thought TF2 was a game that got frequent updates because Jungle Inferno dropped like a month after I began playing, then Scream Fortress. Boy was I wrong, and that's okay, but I'm very thankful of the fact that it exists and we have one of the best communities for a video game out there. Thank you Uncle Dane for continuing to give great content about it, I'm also excited to see a new video by you. :]
I think it... WAS a game that got frequent updates. But I don't really blame Valve for not working on TF2 much, since while I am biased as a TF2 fan, 99% of people, if given the chance to work at the studio that is potentially working on new Half Life games, would work on said Half Life games instead. Plus VR technology is new and exciting, so that's probably pulling people away from TF2 as well. The community is absolutely a wonderful thing, and it's honestly incredible not even the bot thing can kill this game.
No joke, I paused the video and clapped as soon as he said that. I think snipers are worse than random crits. Hope we can expect some sniper nerfs if anyone on Valve ever decides to wheel back into the TF2 room. After fixing the bot thing, hopefully.
The funny thing of running to a dispenser with forty HP and then getting stabbed by said dispenser reminds me of the dialogue from Thor: Ragnarok where Thor recalls when Loki turned into a snake - because he knows Thor loves snakes - and, while Thor was admiring the snake, turned back into his human self and stabbed him.
Dane, I love you. Your the reason I started maining engineer, and I started getting better at TF2 cause of ur ‘edutainment’ on the class. And I thank you for it 😊😁
As someone who has also been playing since 2012, and also mained Engineer for (not only way to long) my early stages of playing the game, I can say that TF2 has been the most influential game for the past decade. Watching creators like STAR_, Jerma, LazyPurple, and dozens more have made me thankful for participating in this community. Thank you Dane, and cheers for being a decade old.
4:19 I honestly think if Spy ever get an update, Valve should add more Sappers like The Long Range Sapper The Red Spy used in Meet The Spy or make other utility tools in place of The Sapper. Like a Tagging Tool or a Building Disguise Tool or something.
I don't play TF2 anymore but I watch a lot of the content that you Uncle Dane, and the community puts out, and I say good on all of ya'll for keeping TF2 alive even though it was seemingly left to die by Valve. The community is amazing and the game is still fun and kept alive by the community despite the bots or even the test of time. Here's to 10 more years of Uncle Dane and TF2!
21:23 If the percent of time spent on engi is similar to before the reset you likely have around 5871 hours. Although it could be a few hundred more or less depending on how much you played engi before to now.
That end was really wholesome, thanks for all the content you've been making through out the years and everything you've contributed to the community, love you Uncle :)
I started TF2 in 2021 thanks to UA-camrs like you, LazyPurple and the Czech channel Growey. And I really thank for that since this old arcade style where nobody has any leveled weapons. So thank you for still making videos even though it's an old game, it's a shame that games like this aren't made anymore.
Whenever I go on long car drives (3+ hrs), I usually put on Uncle Dane videos to listen to as I drive, and they’re still entertaining even after all these years. Thanks for the great content, and for having good servers to play on when I stream.
Hey Dane loved the new idubbbz doc great editing, I knew you guys were friends but it’s really cool you’re working on projects with him. Big ups to the sentry love you dude
Seeing you have many hours in DRG, I'd love for you to make some videos on your second video about the deep rock engineer (assuming it's your favorite class of course). One of my absolute favorite games ever. Rock and Stone.
God, the mixing was driving me nuts because it sounded so familiar, then I scrolled down and saw that Soundsmith was doing the audio work. Not surprised, it sounds nice as all hell
Honestly, if it weren't for Uncle Dane, I might have never played TF2 after 2017 (the year I started) because he was one of 2 people related to TF2 that truly treated the game like a game and showed me the fun in the game. Also, Uncletopia is a god-send server and I would continue playing on it even if the bots are all gone, just for the fact that it has one of the best communities and I had so many bad experiences with online gaming communities (especially as a queer POC), including TF2, so thank you Uncle for making me play a good game like this one
Rokki was a good friend and mod of Uncletopia who was kind and always a good time to hang around with. He also did art as well and streamed. Very much miss him.

8:54 "should sniper be nerfed?" - 2007 was an incredibly different time, when people thought ENGINEER was overpowered, maybe pyro as well. People on pc played like they were using a controller. Valve servers had players that were leagues worse than now, which led to the general consensus that nobody on those servers were challenging at all. Snipers back then would miss me - not just my head, but my entire body - probably ten times before hitting me. This was what TF2 was balanced around before people figured out how hitboxes, lag comp, and prediction work in the game. The landscape is just different now. It would be a shame to nerf sniper simply because his skill ceiling is so high, but it is like antivirus being a no-brainer in 2022 when it was unheard of in the 90s. With the code leak, pandora's box has opened, and it is time to react in a way that is fair for everyone.
I think the only real nerf Sniper needs is to have quickscope headshots deal less damage. There's no good reason he should be able to do 150 on a quickscope. It should be 120, or even as low as 100. Just have the damage ramp-up scale a bit faster so he still reaches 100% charge in the same amount of time. Quick scopes are really what make Sniper so powerful and annoying.
@@bugjams it really fucks over medic which is objectively the most busted class which leads to my conclusion that ubercharge and its consequences have been a disaster for tf2 game design since 2007
"It would be a shame to nerf sniper simply because his skill ceiling is so high" No he has a high skill floor. Everyone has more complexity and a ceiling compared to the sniper but a lower entry point. - Someone who used to use sniper before I realized how cheap and unfair it was Soldier has a projectile with travel time, Demo has a lobbed projectile that only explodes on contact with a player or time, Heavy not only has to click on enemies and deal with random spread but has to stay on enemies. Sniper has the lowest skill ceiling not just in TF2 but shooters in general and this comes from someone who used to main sniping but stopped because it was disgusting. Snipers by design do max damage at every range while other weapons have good and bad ranges and the ability to miss but without any massive advantages.
Mann, I love tf2. joined in 2018 and I have over three thousand hours. It's practically the only game I play. The bots are annoying, but the game, the mechanics, maps, and the players who provide you a challenge to your own skill, all that overpowers the stupid bots. Also, i love playing soldier and heavy.
4:54 Honestly, even as a pyro main, I don’t think it would be too bad of an idea to make invisible spies invulnerable to afterburn. Not only is way too oppressive for spy that pyro can just track him easily by touching him with one particle, but I don’t even find fun myself that pyro can just find spies out of thin air. Because pyro can just find spies that easily, suddenly his role is to just randomly spraying the air in case he finds a spy, which isn’t exactly the most fun. Even if spy was invulnerable to afterburn while cloaked, pyro would still be very effective at spy-checking, and would easily track him down with the fire effect on contact.
@@shovel_salesman Well, you would already get a similar effect with afterburn invulnerability, since the afterburn view (to call it something) already affects pyros when inside fire particles. Any longer than that, and it might as well be as easy as it is now to track invisible spies, just with a little more awareness needed.
@@GameyRaccoon Doesn’t the spycicle force you out of using it? As a pyro, spycicle has never bothered me, first because it makes a very clear sound when activated, so it doesn’t prevent me from identifying the spy, and second because leaving a Spy without knife for 15 seconds without even killing him is most of the time worth for just 1 second of no damage, which usually doesn’t prevent you from following him and killing him after. I don’t care I can’t find a spy if he doesn’t even have a knife. I find it harder to kill dead ringer spies than spycicle spies, since dead ringer spies not only extinguish themselves, but also have the speed to get out of your range and get to keep their knives.

i think i start watching you . like 6 years ago (2015). man . time passes . i rarely comment when i was younger (for being too bad at writing. not much better now btw) all i am trying to say . thank you for years of contents .
Agree with your take on sniper. Find it funny how the devs said tthe sniper was the biggest problem though, since I would've expected it to be the pyro (I find him much more annoying to fight than sniper). Hopefully a rework is done to both classes, cus if one overly complained class is fixed while there's still another insanely unfun thing to fight, it would somewhat ruin the entire experience for me
I agree with the sniper point but not as much on the Pyro point. I've mained both over my years and it's rough getting to a point where quickscopes are second nature and flares are guaranteed crits but it's also clearly frustrating to fight against. Sniper needs a rework I think and Pyro's big thing is that you can't see through his flames.
Pyro is so easy to counter than any annoyance comes from player preference than any objective mechanic the Pyro has. Meanwhile, Sniper can oneshot you from anywhere at any range so long as he can see you.
Still dying on this Pyro hill i see. 150 damage at any range instantly vs sustained fire damage that can be shut down by good shotgun aim, i don't think i need to go on.
I love tf2 so much, yet I cant get myself to play it. During the quarantine it was all I did. I got 1,000 hours in 3 months and I loved every second of it, now with all the bots and school I stoped. To see a man with 10 years still playing and going strong is a blessing to this community. Thank you Uncle dane(very gud sentry man)
My nerf for sniper would definetly to reduce the time it takes for him to shoot, AKA the speed at which he cycles the chamber and whatnot. Could also open up the possibility for a sick, satisfying bolt animation too. I feel like making the ADS speed slower would be a bit overkill but generally the ROF nerf would be enough imo. Any other change like adding in any scope speed or "recoil" would be uncharacteristic for TF2
Happy anniversary, Uncle Dane!! Truth to be told, my sole reason to install Steam in the first place, back in September of 2012) was also to play TF2. I merely told my husband (who was on Steam since Steam's Beta, his account is ancient) that I wanted to play Portal 2's co-op campaign with him. Because prior to TF2 I had never played a single WASD First Person Team Shooter before, and I wanted to figure out how to play it by myself. I had known about TF2 via its Meet the Team trailers and some gameplay videos since 2011, but only got the nerve to try it out after the Meet the Pyro trailer came out, which I found out from a Reacts video by some UA-camrs on Blistered Thumbs... part of their "TF2 is Awesome" playlist. So yes, I missed Pyromania Update by like 3 weeks! 😭 I told myself I wanted to be able to play TF2 in a public server by the time of Fortnitemares Halloween 2012, and I wanted to play as the funny Ghostbusters Mad Doctor... because Medic and his Übercharge looked awesome and badass. So I spent an entire month studying the TF2 Wiki and playing and replaying the class tutorial and the offered off-line Soldier mission against bots on cp_dustbowl.

Every time I watch a Soundsmith video, I'm glad I don't play much TF2 anymore - it's all friendlies and meme loadouts (still great videos though). Every time I watch a LazyPurple video, I feel like I'm watching a great episode of a comedy that's still in its best years. But an Uncle Dane video? Those always evoke the nostalgia of hundreds of hours of fun I've had with the game and make me wish I had more time to play it. (Also the videos are very entertaining and confidently produced - that's nice too.)
It's rare for someone to reach such a legendary status in a community. I'm glad that you've achieved that by following your passions and genuinely helping people
I also played TF2 and have a small channel to make content, but ever since years past, Valve wouldn't communicate with the community nor even give a major update the game. (it's 4 years already) I felt demotivated to make content but because of most TF2bers like Uncle Dane or Soundsmith, i kept my attention on the game since then. Really love the content the TF2bers put up for something more than what their own devs does now. Thank you Dane and congrats on 10 years of dedication to the game.
I remember finally having an ok computer in like 2013 and being excited to finally play games that I simply couldn’t before.
I don't know the story of the Rokki guy, but, appearently he passed away from Dane's reactions, so rest in peace to the poor guy.
hearing that valve spoke about removing sniper, even jokingly, is music to my ears
AMEN
*I'm gonna click on this guy's head to instantly win...*
*I clicked on them and I instantly won..*
Yeah no surprise
came to the comments to see if anyone had pointed this out
No joke, I paused the video and clapped as soon as he said that. I think snipers are worse than random crits. Hope we can expect some sniper nerfs if anyone on Valve ever decides to wheel back into the TF2 room. After fixing the bot thing, hopefully.
they need to add something like bullet velocity/travel time or scope stability physics
The past 5 years that i've been watching your videos, i've learned so much about playing engineer. Keep up the good work dane!
Its so cool that some random stranger has impacted people so much just by being passionate about the videos he makes
Uncle Dane is a very good questions man
Dane, I love you.
Uncle Dane deserves a million subs, hell he even made servers for us and gave us very entertaining videos throughout the whole decade
Finally. The Uncle Dane Upload we've been waiting for

I honestly think if Spy ever get an update, Valve should add more Sappers like The Long Range Sapper The Red Spy used in Meet The Spy or make other utility tools in place of The Sapper. Like a Tagging Tool or a Building Disguise Tool or something.
give spy shotgun!
I love how watching Uncle Dane makes me want to play tf2. Thanks, Dane.
21:23 If the percent of time spent on engi is similar to before the reset you likely have around 5871 hours. Although it could be a few hundred more or less depending on how much you played engi before to now.
5871 hours is roughly 6.7% of all time in the 10 year period and works out to an average of 11 hours of play weekly.
That end was really wholesome, thanks for all the content you've been making through out the years and everything you've contributed to the community, love you Uncle :)
Proud to have had you here for 10 years, you're a great figure in the TF2 community
I find it really wholesome that you call Ian by his name instead of his persona. Don't know why, but really butters my biscuits.
Thank you for confirming the engineers blueprints on steel. I've been REALLY wanting that!
- Especially as a queer POC
Very true. Uncle Dane's server is really positive, especially compared to many other private servers
I've never watched this dude before until recently which was only like 3 videos, but this was nice to watch anyway
You sir inspired me to become an engi main. Thanks for the memories
I second this
So happy to see your vids in my feed, happy 10 year birthday!
25:19
Could you explain it to me? I dunno who they are/were(?)
Yeah I’d also like an explanation my man
Rokki was a good friend and mod of Uncletopia who was kind and always a good time to hang around with. He also did art as well and streamed. Very much miss him.
@@DJ.Sylveon Did they die or just move on?..

The legend himself. We can all agree uncle Dane has been so great to the tf2 community and thanks for it all.
My uncle seems like a nice guy. I hope he's doing okay
We are his proverbial nephews
I loved that small bit you did with SoundSmith adding the slide wistle.
Happy 10 years Uncle Dane!
how its made will forever be the best show i’ve ever watched. Ive learned so much, and the curiosity my brain has when looking at thing and being like “how are batteries made at an industrial level?” And how its made is just all around very entertaining for me personally
As far as how well Sniper is balanced, I think the fact that the majority of bots play as Sniper really speaks for itself
- Someone who used to use sniper before I realized how cheap and unfair it was
Soldier has a projectile with travel time, Demo has a lobbed projectile that only explodes on contact with a player or time, Heavy not only has to click on enemies and deal with random spread but has to stay on enemies.
Sniper has the lowest skill ceiling not just in TF2 but shooters in general and this comes from someone who used to main sniping but stopped because it was disgusting. Snipers by design do max damage at every range while other weapons have good and bad ranges and the ability to miss but without any massive advantages.
Congrats on 10 years ! Thank you for being my favorite uncle and making engineer actually interesting after so long aya
Same here.
Uncletopia is great, shoutout for running the Frankfurt servers for us European homies.
Spycicle
@@GameyRaccoon Doesn’t the spycicle force you out of using it? As a pyro, spycicle has never bothered me, first because it makes a very clear sound when activated, so it doesn’t prevent me from identifying the spy, and second because leaving a Spy without knife for 15 seconds without even killing him is most of the time worth for just 1 second of no damage, which usually doesn’t prevent you from following him and killing him after. I don’t care I can’t find a spy if he doesn’t even have a knife.
I find it harder to kill dead ringer spies than spycicle spies, since dead ringer spies not only extinguish themselves, but also have the speed to get out of your range and get to keep their knives.
this just makes me wanting to watch your content more often, ive mostly been drugging myself with soundsmith, arrayseven, big joey, and lazypurple in terms of tf2 guides and stuff (no offense to you guys, yall rock too) but every once in a while i watch your content cuz god damn, your engie vids are hella informative and the editing you and soundsmith do is so good
Hope youre having a great day Uncle Dane

Ten years already....man time flies
I give a shit about your Twitter suspension and I'm glad you're taking a break. I hope if you ever come back to social media you find that same happiness that made you use it to begin with. If you don't feel it, don't feel pressured to come back. I've been away from it all for years now and I've never looked back.
Happy 10 years Uncle Dane!! Your the main reason I’ve continued playing TF2 this long! Thank you for keeping the spirit of this incredible game and community alive!
i think i start watching you . like 6 years ago (2015). man . time passes . i rarely comment when i was younger (for being too bad at writing. not much better now btw)
all i am trying to say . thank you for years of contents .
Sniper needs a rework I think and Pyro's big thing is that you can't see through his flames.
pyro is the second worst class in the game and should get quite a few buffs actually.
Pyro is so easy to counter than any annoyance comes from player preference than any objective mechanic the Pyro has. Meanwhile, Sniper can oneshot you from anywhere at any range so long as he can see you.
@@somerandomgamer8504 sniper dies if more than one person looks at him
Still dying on this Pyro hill i see.
4:12 awesomejoke131 really outplayed you, a ten year veteran, and to think I knew you 😔
It's so nice that huge youtubers like Uncle Dane are endorsing and introducing people to small games with small communities to people! Thanks uncle!
I told myself I wanted to be able to play TF2 in a public server by the time of Fortnitemares Halloween 2012, and I wanted to play as the funny Ghostbusters Mad Doctor... because Medic and his Übercharge looked awesome and badass. So I spent an entire month studying the TF2 Wiki and playing and replaying the class tutorial and the offered off-line Soldier mission against bots on cp_dustbowl.
25:11 If im allowed to ask the community can anyone tell me what happened to rokki? I just found out about the thru this video and looked at some of there profiles and im kinda confused about what happened to them and if anyone can give me any context to that I would love it. Im sorry if its disrepectfull or anything but I just wana know about them
Suicide probably.
They passed away about 2 years ago…
Passion comes first indeed. It really took me a while to figure that out but now I'm happier just doing what I want to do instead of trying to force things upon myself.
I imagine the TF2 Dev Team saying that Sniper would be their pick for removing a class from the game is very vindicating for a lot of people
Suddenly 50% of the tf2 community took a showers
@@Dr_Dan_ lol
Sniper doesn't really fit into the game, so is only logical.
@@Lone-Nep right, the game is centered around mid to close range mostly
@@Lone-Nep the only real excuse as to why Sniper was in the game is because the average skill level at launch was way worse than it is now.

My second anniversary of playing TF2 just came on the 2nd! Happy Anniversary, Dane.
Loved the soundtrack choices. Bang on.
Always a pleasure to see dane post a new video.
It's rare for someone to reach such a legendary status in a community. I'm glad that you've achieved that by following your passions and genuinely helping people
I also played TF2 and have a small channel to make content, but ever since years past, Valve wouldn't communicate with the community nor even give a major update the game. (it's 4 years already)
I felt demotivated to make content but because of most TF2bers like Uncle Dane or Soundsmith, i kept my attention on the game since then.
Really love the content the TF2bers put up for something more than what their own devs does now. Thank you Dane and congrats on 10 years of dedication to the game.
its 6 now :(
It will be 10th anniversary for me at 27th of february, it feels really strange that I downloaded this game "just for fun" and here I am 10 years ago
I remember finally having an ok computer in like 2013 and being excited to finally play games that I simply couldn’t before. Heavily Modded Minecraft was finally open to me and of course TF2 which I had become obsessed with thanks to the meet the team videos and my older brother having the orange box on the 360. TF2 was my first steam game and like Dane was largely the reason I created a steam account in the first place. I wonder how many other people got into tf2 around that time and being introduced to steam through it
One question that would have been really cool is "the uncle dane theme got inspired by cowboys themes or something like that?"
