Alright, Monsters, you are in for a treat. In this video I bought a 1978 F150 that we didn't realize it was flooded. Witness the chaos and struggles the first few weeks of owning this truck brought.
I realize my truck has square headlights but it IS a 1978.

From 1973 to 1982 I worked at the Ford Motor factory in San Jose CA. In the "commercial" end of the plant we built the F1-2-3 pickup trucks 25 per hour 2 shifts 6 days. We shipped them everywhere. The F150 Explorers were gorgeous trucks & Jade green is the color here. We used to wonder where all of the trucks were going as we made them day after day after day. In the factory they were brand new pieces of art with their 6 cylinders, 302, 351, 360, 390 & 460 engines. 2 wheel drives, 4x4 in standard & automatic. It saddens me to see while this unit is a survivor that it ended up as it did. Speaking in behalf of the thousands of workers at the plant we took a lot of pride making those trucks. I own a '78 F-150 ,Camper Special with factory 351M/400.I have owned it for 16 yrs now.It also came with dual gas tanks.The engine was broke down at 100,00 mi. and rebuilt.It still doesn't have 10,000 mi .on it since the rebuild that was done 18 yrs ago.Thanks for your contribution to this classic body style my favorite
I have a 1978 f350 lariat it was a cab chassis truck that ended up with a flatbed it has a 351m with a granny 4 speed and a set of 4:10 gears in the back slow as a tractor but can pull a house down😂 but man is she a bute you my friend made good trucks back then not aluminum or non of that aluminum block twin turbo junk that ford takes pride in today don’t get me wrong the workers today still take a lot of pride in their work but man y’all made some awesome trucks
I have a '79 F100. Semi-restored to "rat rod" standards, so still usable!!
I bought my jade green 78 Ford Ranger with the Explorer package in 1980 when I graduated. It had a 302 with the standard 4 speed overdrive transmission. Unfortunately I was T-boned by a truck about 8 months later.

Most women wouldn't even go near a truck like that because it isn't a shiny Mercedes, let alone put their time and effort into trying to get it in working order. Working on cars is a task that is predominantly taken interest by men, I'm sorry if that is too offensive for your little heart to handle but it's true. To see more women getting into this kind of thing is awesome and that's exactly what the original comment is trying to say too, so stop trying to put a sexist spin on everything zoomer :)

@@aman4peace If you lower a truck deep enough into water, it will fill up the engine. Air will escape somewhere -- from vents, old seals, and out the dip stick.

Gotta love old vehicles, so much room in the engine compartment! Get up in there! I am teaching all 3 of my daughters about cars and trucks, having them help me(work on them with me). I want them to be knowledgeable, enough that they will be able to do minor maintenance and know if a mechanic is taking advantage of them.
I truly enjoy watching you all work on vehicles, especially Mook. I imagine my daughters ending up as silly as their old dad, and as smart and funny as Mook.

No they aren't. I have a 05 Hyundai Elantra but older vehicles don't have computerized system or fuel injection or other systems that complicate a cars life span if not properly maintained. Older cars have less of that and more timing gears probability than timing belts or chains which don't last as long usually or have the same issues

I had a 73 it had a 302 2 barrel automatic . 2 toned green pea green on top forest green on the side . I liked that truck . This brought back memories .

Mook is a sweet kid. Cute as she can be and funny. Reminds me of my daughter a ton. My daughter doesn’t take too much anything seriously but at the end of the day she is a tremendous help.
I had a 78 and when you pop the hood you always have to give her a little tap on the top to get her to pop. The door replacement panels are crazy expensive to buy new so I went to all the local junk yards and bought all the unbroken ones I could find. I had sets of black, tan, red, green and blue. I also had a kick ass head liner with 4.5" round speakers in the cab corners. Those trucks with the split rear window are a leaking rust nightmare. All the split window trucks will start rusting the cab below the window. I replaced the holes in the floor with speed limit signs and other old street and then laid new carpet over the top. If you go with the 302 make sure you get the right fly wheel because some of them are different on the 302 depending on year and the wrong one will cause horrific shaking and vibrations.
This is the type of content that I like to see - wholesome, enthusiastic, funny, and a genuine interest in all things automotive. Keep it up!

I’ve got a 79 f150 custom 4x4 and I had to do the same thing because of flooding. I drained 6 gallons of water out before any oil came out. I do have it running and drivable but there’s so much I still need to do to make it look and feel good to me. - a 19 year old South Carolinian!
A few years ago, I bought a 73' F-100 that i fell in love with at first sight. She quickly turned into way more work than I could have anticipated...so to the back burner that project went. Y'all have given me the inspiration i need to get back on it. Thanks.
I became a contractor in 86 when I got out of the service...I must have had 10 of these 78, 77's...All old trucks from that era have their little bugaboos...But, the F150 with 300 - 4.9 straight 6 was a beast motor...

@@godbluffvdgg yes original e40d I have replaced other things out of want not need though everything that touches the serpentine belt. Put in an oversized radiator for pulling and alternator to put in electric fans. Needs new psom because it's stuck in limp mode

I got a 351M in my 1980 bronco, it pures very nice. Took all the smog items off and replaced the stock 2150 carb, and it runs at highway speed .
Great video! My gpa had a 1979 Ford F-250 (two-tone) regular cab, camper special that he had while I was growing up in the 80's. The sad thing is, is it absolutely no power-steering and was hell to steer, Lol. In-fact, it was the vehicle I learned to drive with.
Happy I found your channel...just looking under the hood brought back many memories..I bought a Marron with silver strip and a camper shell that matched..new truck that the dealer had customized...I pushed it out of the Tulsa Convention Center in February of 79...had to wait until it was almost over but it was worth it..19 yrs old..new truck and things to do..lol..ahh I forgot it was a short wheel base 4×4..first thing I did was put a Elderbrock hi rise and a 780 dual line Jolley with custom dual exhaust..blowed that engine and went back with a 429 Cobra...and im happy to say I surived...luv your channel
A Jolley Holley..lol...the truck was in the Tulsa Boat and Sport Travel Show...people were everwhere the last day and my buddy and I were crashed in the back..lol..a cop finnaly helped us get it out by pulling us with a golf cart...then we had to walk to a gas station to get 5 gals of gas in a snow storm...we tested the 4 wheel drive out driving the 75 miles home and it snowed for 3 days...very few four wheel drives back then...thanks for helping me vist that time..

Howdy Mook, make sure you change the rear axle oil, trans oil, coolant, power steering needs to be flushed along with breaks. Good luck. I had a 1964 F250. It was awesome. Have fun.
I found myself falling in love with this truck, despite all it had been through it still wanted to live. I've wanted one of these trucks for a while now and now I want one even more. Please more content with this truck.

You had me at water in the oil pan, but sold me with the camera up the nose. Didn't expect that, and it was awesome.

Owning one of these myself, it was kind of heart breaking seeing the condition it's in, but awesome to see it moving under it's own power again!
Mine also has the 351m with a c6 automatic, all original, still going strong.

I had a 79 Bronco with a 351 modified. And it was definitely nothing to brag about, but after it spun a main bearing we went ahead and put in 400 rods and pistons a decent cam 4 barrel intake with a Holley 650 and dual exhaust with an x-pipe. It was very respectable performing engine after that.
This video was made recently but somehow it's giving me nostalgia for a time I didn't even live. It makes me think of the girl I wanted to be when I was little. Very cool work on the truck!

I hope you flushed the power steering, rear axle and trans/converter. That engine's a keeper, work on the rest of the driveline and you're all set. Grease everything up, oil the hinges, latches...Nice solid F-150 there! Nice work on the brakes, and try to find a junkyard-core carburetor for her? Drop the pan, clean the oil pickup screen.

I love the Ford Green Ranger F150. To see two in the same yard is just amazing to me. GREEN IS MY FAVORITE COLOR. That truck was so popular in its day and now they are virtually non existing. I love the matching Green Interior. If you cherry that one back to factory fresh you could name your price,better yet travel the car/truck shows and gather some trophies. My friends, the first thing you should have done after you found that much water in the oil pan, was to find out where it came from. ….. from what I have seen, you should have filled the radiator with as much water as it would take.... then wait 15 min. and check it again. If it is lowered add more water, and wait 15 min. And then look to see if it comes out the oil pan. (you may have a crack inside the engine block and the water is coming from the radiator.)
i agree. i dont think it was a flood vehicle as there are not any water lines inside that i could see. most likely a coolant leak into the oil.

I think this is the first will it run that I heard the expression of need to do no more harm, drain the oil, etc. Very smart!! Most "will it start videos" have trouble with start up because the intake runners are DRY, it takes a ton of fuel to wet things up so that fuel vapor inducts thru the valves.I also heard those negative comments about the 351M and 400 engine family being odd ball and to be avoided. Boy do you have some surprises in store for you. As produced they were dogs, no question. But I have a 78 f-250 4x4 with new process 4 speed and a 400 that I built up, took off the smog crap and that engine is a pulling fool. I used it to tow loaded car hauler to shows and it does not lack for power and durability.

I've owned many 351m and 400 Fords. Put a small cam, good timing set, cheap fenderwell exit headers, intake and 4 barrel on it. They are strong runners. Although they have lower compression some cam and ignition timing can work wonders. The heads flow well and will bolt right on a Windsor series block, but you need a few mods for cooling.
I put a couple turbos on my to get around the low compression.
Only did 550hp at the rear wheels.
Never had an issue.
