Okay but the juxtaposition not only between Medusa and Annabeth getting punished for someone else's actions even though they devoted themselves to Athena, and the fact Percy took responsibility for his actions and Poisidon helping him out in an attempt to show Percy his love isn't conditional is actually killing me rn. :') THIS SHOW
“God punish their kids by allowing monster to murder them, apparently.” is so Greek mythology lol, love how they are showing more in-humaneness from gods. I love them as characters in books especially the glimpse of cruelty, gives the titan sided kids more depth, they are not just rebellious teenagers, they are kids who try to fight against fate and destinies, and the powerlessness against their parents.
I love how Rick took a plot hole from the book (the fall from the Arch) and made it into a plot point. He initially thought that the river ran under the Arch, so in the show he fixed that by having Poisiden save him, which is all the more impactful when contrasted with Athena.
I feel like everyone gets mad when it ends bec the episodes are just too short

Echidna was supremely soccer mom coded and it was perfect. I do wish that we could have seen at least a hint of some monster features on her in the end, but I'm okay with the way it was.
They are going to need to work much harder to make Athena seem reasonable from now on. Punishing your child by letting her get killed is... a LOT. Not like she was the best mom in the books either but I can only imagine how hurt Annabeth would feel after this incident. There's going to be a need for rebuilt trust if they want to make Annabeth fighting for Olympus reasonable. I still trust the writers. The character development has been immacculate so far for everyone.
Harsh punishments for her kids is actually pretty in character for Athena (see Daedelus). But you're right - after episode 4 and 5, I doubt Annabeth is going to be singing her praises any time soon, so I'm super curious to see if this will come up again whenver we meet Athena later on in the show.
I can also highly recommend The Ananzi Boys by Neil Gaiman.
Hello, have you seen the movie Tarzan The Fearless?
I think episode 3 and 4 are equally my favorites at the moment for the juxtaposition between Medusa and Annabeth. Athena punishes them both for the actions of others and it makes me question why she is the Goddess of Wisdom with her unjust actions. I knew it was going to be a short episode because I heard other people who were granted permission to see the first four episodes before the series premiered mention it was so far the shortest episode. I still was annoyed, however, because I was just getting into the episode with the progression of the story and wanted more. I just started listening to the book series on audiobook the latter half of 2023 and I think this tv series is a good adaptation of the book so far. I like the updates Rick has made and it feels like the story flows better in my opinion. I am excited for episode 5 next week.
