Twix was called Raider in German till the 90s, so it's very unusual that she would still find a raider wrapper in the woods. I think they assume the viewer knows this. Also I'm so hyped for a new dark reaction!

@@ChannelNamePending699 It kinda was. When they introduced Twix in the German speaking markets in 1976 (about 9 years after it was first sold in the UK) they chose the name Raider (pronounced like rider). When they decided to unify the brand name some 15 years later, they had to change it in more than 15 countries but those were 1/3 of all the countries worldwide where it was already sold. So in 2/3 it was already called Twix. Oddly enough in 2019 Mars Inc. celebrated their 40th anniversary with a retro edition of Twix labeled Raider Retro Edition. They do that every so often since 2009 to hold on to the brand name rights; e.g. in 2013 they did it in a collab with a discounter chain in Germany for their anniversary. So in a weird coincidence we had Raider around both when season 2 was released and when season 3 was released. But the one in the show is missing the added "Retro Edition" on the label... but it looks brand new. Must have been sitting on somebody's shelf for a few years.

It was both a real and constructed prophecy. The Fremen already had their own messianic prophecy of the Madhi and the Benegezirit knew that in the future, the Quizat Haderach would arise and if they could control who that was and control them, then they could control the future. They took their lisan al ga'ib narrative as an interpretation of the existing madhi prophecy so that they could control the future that they foresaw and get the Fremen in line with their designs for the future. The Fremen breath in spice all day so many of them have prophetic visions and mental abilities as well, which is why, without believing in the lisan al'gaib, many Fremen men with spice-evolved abilities thought they might be the Mahdi and tried to take the water of life but it killed all of them. Paul is a part of a millenias long genetic breeding experiment to make someone who could transmute the water of life and bridge time and space with their mind which is probably how he survived the ritual. In a way, he was made for it. The Benegezzerit saw a future, the same one the Fremen reverend mother's foresaw, and they tried to control it but ironically (and karmically) by destroying the Atraidies to keep control of who the Quizat Haderach was, ended up making the Quizat Haderach their enemy and handing control of the future to the Fremen.

For anyone wondering, we're definitely going to continue and finish Dark. We actually have several episodes recorded already and we're absolutely in love with the show so far, so I have no doubt you'll see us react to the whole thing. This is by far the most fun we've had reacting, discussing, and theorizing about a show in a long time. We're officially in it for the long haul. After a few episodes I considered doing just that, but I was worried that any time we spent looking away from the screen to take notes would risk missing a critical moment or important information (especially while reading subtitles). Luckily, we found this website from Netflix themselves that lets you view the family tree and see who's related to who at any time. You just select the season/episode you're on and it displays all the characters you've been introduced to up until that point so you aren't spoiled. We've been referring to it whenever we need help remembering and it's been a lifesaver so far. dark.netflix.io/en/family-tree

Great review and reaction. I just watched this movie the other night, along with Talk To Me. I managed to avoid trailers, and most hype around both, and really enjoyed both. I personally tend to like movies like this, I almost feel like trying to insist or advertise it as "scary" undersells the concept. I personally frame it more as creeping terror, or unsettling oppressiveness. Like finding yourself in a grasslands with a lion rushing towards you is scary, but being in a room with a lion that was born with a mutation, and it had two heads and both seem functional, but one head is dead and it seems blind, but its slowly crawling towards you, and you aren't sure if you should feel bad for its circumstance or scared for your life... Thats like an altogether different sensation. Some thoughts I had. Even though its should seem really obvious that Harker and Carter should both feel more weary about Birthdays, as in her own, and Carter's daughter, I think both are guilty of distancing themselves and putting up a wall, and separating themselves with whats happening. Which I think could be neat in a few ways, because its a pretty natural thing for people to generally do. Put distance between what happens in the world and ourselves, whether its news, our jobs, or even movies. Plus like one of you said, they don't know they are in a horror movie. Also in the same way many horror movies are about trauma, domestic abuse, mental health, this sort of alludes to this as well. i mean, one major factor in this movie, is its about fathers killing their families and selves. Generally speaking, its something most actual, normal and healthy people just can't imagine doing or condoning... Yet also domestic abuse is something that does happen, and can happen. Its sort of this uncomfortable idea, of whether such people ever actually intend or plan to be that way, or whether they are victims of circumstance, themselves, substance abuse or other such factors (in this movie, its a supernatural presence). So I think that sort of describes why Harker and Carter both don't really dwell on the fact her Birthday is soon, as well as Carter's daughter, because they are putting up artificial walls, of sorts, like Carter knows/believes he would obviously never kill his wife and daughter... he's not a victim or insane, he's FBI... Also really enjoyed the creepy use of the dolls in the movie. One thing I thought was interesting, was a lot of the earlier movie seems like its trying to ground the movie. Like its shots, directing style, colour, and general framing. Really grounded. Except also Harker seems like she just knows stuff through intuition. Like she has psychic abilities. So later when we get these dolls with these odd silver metallic orbs in them... That seem to make these eery sounds, I started to get the impression that.. well it reminded me a bit of Mass Effect (I won't say much more), but the idea of long form communication beyond our current scientific understanding, to the point of being supernatural. Something that both gave her increased predictive powers and intuition, but also something that could control, manipulate, and influence her. So when it was destroyed, she was sort of freed from that, but possibly lost the sort of supernatural guessing she demonstrated earlier. Finally, since I am essentially rewatching the movie via peoples reactions, yes, its fun and interesting how much the movie will give away, just without context and framing. Like Harker's connection, and when people guess or realise she was on the opening scene... but if she was, then how did she managed to avoid being murdered by her father? Like all the other victims? Well then you start to ask questions about her fathers absence in the movie, and her mother, who does seem a bit odd. Then how her mother explains she "got to get old", which hints that she had to intervene. Also... why does she keep insisting about praying? Well the mother probably feels like she is in hell, and wishes that some sort of god being would/could intervene... Since she knows the devil is real, maybe her daughter praying can save them both... but then her laughter when her daughter explains she never prays, because the mother probably does pray all the time, but then she laughs because she sort of figures its useless, and makes no difference, but she has to keep killing or assisting Longlegs, so they can at least avoid Hell. Rewatching the movie is pretty fun (I don't think its necessary mind you, its incredible regardless, I more so mean as far as hints and guessing. I think many people would make theories during the movie, because its designed that way, so a rewatch can help affirm guesses and theories made). Cheers!

      @ChannelNamePending699 11 днів тому

Thank you for your insight! I love the lion analogy, definitely borrowing that one for future horror discussions. Completely agree, and I for one almost always prefer that kind of deeply weird, off kilter, almost existential kind of horror to the in your face horror of yet another jump scare. That's a good point about Harker and Carter putting up walls that prevent them from making those connections. I can especially buy it with Carter considering how skeptical and unwilling he is to accept the supernatural. I still think Harker's character would have caught it sooner than she did, with how deeply invested she was getting in the case, but then again maybe in a roundabout way it was that investment that distracted her in the first place. And yes, this movie was full of cool foreshadowing. The bit with Ruth insisting on prayers and then later contradicting herself definitely stood out to me as odd, and then became much more chilling during my rewatch knowing what I know now. There's something deeply disturbing and ironic about someone who poses as a nun but in reality works for the devil himself - made more tragic by the fact that she's in many ways a victim herself. And finally, I also want to give a shoutout to Talk to Me - an amazing horror film that I regret not waiting to react to on the channel. Glad you enjoyed it!

@@ChannelNamePending699 Cheers. I've always been a bit more fascinated by slow horror, and I like your description and explanation as to why. I also don't know it it was intentional, in regards to putting up walls, but given how intentional a lot of other aspects are in the film, I figured there could be a few different intended reasons. Yeah her laughter (Alicia Witt's character), was almost a mask off moment, but it also almost seemed like a type of catharsis, realising it really doesn't matter. I actually checked your channel to see if you had a Talk To Me video as well. Feels like there have been quite a lot of good horror movies recently. Did spot Abigail, which I know is a very different kind of horror, and more fun, but yeah. Take care and good luck with the channel!

34:45 This bit is eerily close to a moment in Silent Hill 3 when you find a payphone in a locker and some random weirdo starts singing "Happy Birthday" to you in almost the same way, inflection in all. Not sure if it could be a rip off or a homage.

If you haven’t seen “The Blackcoat’s Daughter”, you should. Also directed by Oz Perkins. Has similar horror themes, cinematography, and unsettling atmosphere. Kiernan Shipka, who played Carrie Ann, is one of the main characters.

And the last thing I want to say, since I finished watching your guises thoughts, I’m thinking long legs does come from daddy long legs. He took the place of her dad. That’s where my thoughts go anyways and also she was intuitive because she was being controlled by Satan through, the ball that was inside her doll so when she’s seeing all those pictures and she’s able to decode them properly it’s because it’s not her it’s Satan controlling her

That’s also why she sees flashbacks. I don’t know if you guys noticed she’s not only seeing Satan, but it was flashing back to him in the basement building the dolls. She was having those visions but she didn’t understand what they were.

We noticed her visions of the basement, but it's good to know exactly how she was having those visions. Great analysis.

Satan is referred to in the Bible as a snake. Also, the reason she kept seeing the snake was because she was being controlled by Satan in her doll that was still alive not alive, but her doll was still being controlled by the ball and tell her mom shot the doll then when you see the smoke go from the back of her head it basically was saying that she was no longer being controlled by. The devil. Everything was very symbolic in this movie.

Oh shoot, for some reason I didn't clock the fact that her doll would still be active this whole time since it was never technially destroyed. That explains a lot. Good catch!

The reason this movie worked when it shouldn't have it's because of the haunting atmosphere. They really made you feel like something is watching you at all times and the cinematography is worthy of a metal music video, i love that shot of the mom in front of the tree with a bloody face arms extended saying "hail satan" i need that as a wallpaper, but that is exactly why cringe lines worked, and Nic Cage's over the top acting worked, everything came up creepy af because of the imagery and tone of the movie

Agreed, and that shot of her mom was my favorite shot of film for some reason.

This movie is for sure not for everyone. You definitely have to have a taste for it. It is a work of art. Beautiful all around. IMO. I heard Skinamarink mentioned. If you haven't seen Oz Perkins' other films, I definitely recommend both The Blackcoat's Daughter and I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House. Both films are slow burn arthouse horrors that feel just like this and Skinamarink. It's a niche style of horror, I enjoy this type of unnerving and unsettling film more than the traditional "horror" jumpscares and yadayada all that. It is very Midsommar/Hereditary like as well with the delivery. I defitely feel it fits into that horror category. Great reaction. I hope y'all watch his other films!

I agree I think "scariest film of decade" was a tough assessment. I think stuff like that is subjective. And for marketing they are going to pick reviews to drive tickets and asses in chairs. I think it is up there, especially for my style and enjoyment of horror. This film gets better after each watch. I've seen it probably 5 or 6 times now.

y'all were dead on about the marketing playing up how scary this movie is a little too much, but fear is so subjective that i think any movie one person thinks is really scary will be totally ineffective on someone else. one of my fav authors Jason Pargin put it like this: "saying that any movie is the scariest is an invitation for the most annoying guys on the planet to write comments saying 'YOU thought THAT was scary!? i thought it was FUNNY, i let my 12 YEAR OLD watch that movie. you must have an AWFULLY SMALL PENIS if you think that movie was scary--" anyway this movie made me paranoid lmfao i had to watch a comedy just to unclench enough to go to bed

That's very true. Even though horror's my favorite genre, it's hard to not feel desensitized to it most of the time so it can take a lot to scare me. But I can totally see how many casual watchers or even horror veterans would be absolutely terrified by Longlegs.
