I picked up mine last Sunday (10-30). It’s a pretty awesome guitar. I love the neck. The tuning instability is insane. I replaced the tuners with locking Gotoh tuners. When I compare mine to yours,the stripes are off a little. I have a Frankie too. I also compared the stripes on them too. They were also different. But that’s what I think is what makes them awesome. They are unique. The factory is producing guitars that are essentially “one off”. Keep it. It yours and no one will ever have the same. Right?🤷🏻♂️. Just my $.02. Peace brother

Remember Eddie built his from seconds and inexpensive parts and created a unmistakable sound, so why the hell a $2K plus guitar, right? Highway robbery! I hear ya on the bait and switch. I've been completely disappointed with Guitar Center (Huntsville, AL) awful selection in store. Just purchased a Squier Classic Vibe '70s Stratocaster HSS Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar for my brother, a $450 guitar and it was totally jacked up from the factory, took back to GC to do some adjustments and they made it worse! So had to go to Muscle Shoals to an authorized service center and they said problems with new guitars ordered recently is not uncommon. We've been proactive and under the 45 day factory warranty. Enjoy the content!
The new EVH 78's are badass but the one you built is just as good I would send the EVH back and save the money for something you don't already have. I totally get it though not judging it's a badass guitar even if the stripes aren't perfect. Eddie probably cared way more about the guitar's performance than he did about the paint job in fact I would bet on that!
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Price points on the EVH are just too high you can DIY much cheaper like Eddie did and get it how you like it or true to spec. I think about $750 without Floyd just brass nut w/locking tuners
Love that they are going back to old school trem. I'm just not crazy about the floyds anymore. Just a PITA overall. But that said tuning stability.. are you oiling with 3-1 oil? Also, how much $ do you have in your home build? I feel like the new 1978's are a bit pricey for what ya get.
Yeah for a single pickup/volume knob strat, this price point is really high. There arent any fancy bits besides the brass nut, so kinda curious if all the upcharge is the in the paint job 🥵
I have a Red, White and Black striped series and I love it! I would love to have all the paint variations, but I think that is all they are. Paint variations. I have trouble spending the money on guitars that will sound exactly the same, but just have a different look. I think they are all cool looking, but dang, I just can't justify the money to have them all. Of course, they know we will buy them. That's why they produce them. And yeah, I probably will buy at least one more..... dang it. 🤣
I too noticed the variation in the stripes on the top horn. I wasn’t happy with that at all. I got my bumblebee last year and the back of it isn’t anything like the original paint job but the front is spot on. I also got my hands on the Shark and that guitar is perfect except the headstock is not like the original, which bummed me out. It’s the only thing I have an issue with, but other than that it’s great all around.
These paint jobs are still done by hand. Of course there are going to be variations. This guitar, for about $1,500, is meant to get you a great combination of nostalgia and playabilty. If you want a museum quality reproduction, you gotta put down the big bucks or do it yourself.

I love it but I wish they they would do a proper relic job on the trem cavity. It's an easy fix, of course, but why send out reliced guitars with a brand new bit of bare wood sticking out like that. It was the same with my Frankie. Like i say, an easy fix (paint and/or graphite powder, etc.) but it kinda baulks against the rest of the attention to detail on the guitar. Anyhoo... enjoy! 🙂
To be honest (my opinion) the 78 and the regular striped series sound the best,they all sound amazing and I like the variety of tone,that being said the second replica you built sounds the closest to the original ,, also my opinion but I'd keep it specifically because of the stripe pattern variation, the same look on four guitars a little variation is cool to me,, also I think the replica body one you built looks the best out of all four , you have a killer collection man,, I have a regular striped series white one that I love, and a striped series star shaped guitar I'd actually kind of like to get the Frankenstein so my question to you is which one do you like better the 78 or the Frankie??
Never mind the horn, the 'spiders web' of the smaller pinstripes, towards the back is waaaayy off! Still looks cool though, love the neck colour and patina on the new one
Sorry to trouble you - Can you describe the horn variation issue please? I paused the video when you had them side by side but I couldn't detect anything significant. I'm sure I'm looking in the wrong place or for the wrong thing. I have one of these on order and would like to understand any problems with it..
It’s that the lines on the upper left horn are not symmetrical. On the original they are evenly spaced. I’m just super picky. If it’s not something you notice, then this variation will not bother you. I just have built a couple of my own and like the attention to detail.
This Guitar was ordered from Sweetwater, you pick which Guitar you want from the Gallery. The variations on the stripes should not be a surprise if it's the one you ordered and looked at.
Not the case. It was a far early pre order and when they finally arrived they shipped it without me seeing the photo. I never let them leave Sweetwater without seeing them, but in this one case the photo was provided after shipment. I would have waited and still am on the most correct pattern possible.
@@FinalResonanceTV Makes sense, The preorders I buy I usually request the photo before it ships for this same reason. I Have passed on a few. It's such a nice option to have with Sweetwater but the downside is they open up your guitar kind of ruin the magic of a new one opened up for the first time.
Like you I built my own and don't think they will sell me one at the price they are. I think a guitar in that price range not only should come with a case but a special case. TSK TSK TSK@
I got one and three days later returned it.buzzing everywhere ,even after adjustments. and would not stay in tune.Every first run is a trial run.I will buy another when they work it out.
I sent it back and finished my own super accurate build. I will likely buy it at a later date, when I can see if first. I bought it sight unseen to get it quickly. My Bad
I agree. For 2 grand if you aren’t thrilled with it you should send it back. I liked your replica better. Also it looks like they used the shoe polish again for the neck relic? Doesn’t look as bad as a lot of the Frankie necks but looks like all the dark stuff is collected at the frets?
I've done a lot of reading up on this these guitars are lower quality guitars than the 25-30 thousand dollar Relic you're going to get... they say these are "inspired by"... these are not supposed to be dead on balls accurate with the original.. they are lower quality so guys like me can actually afford to have one.. they're still great guitars
It ain't rocket science. Any slight (and it is slight) variations in the stripes are likely to differentiate them from the much more expensive and valuable limited edition models. It preserves their value a bit more.
I love playing guitar...but, I will NEVER UNDERSTAND why people would pay to sound and look like someone else. It's a seriously sad case of pretend if I have seen one.
