Tyler, I think that you're gratitude and humility is just awesome! I can't think of a more deserving guitarist than you to get a chance to play the EVH ax. You did it justice and Eddie is up there smiling down on you and you're appreciation for his playing. He must be telling Hendrix and the rest of our gone but never forgotten to check this guy out, he's studied us enough to tell the world how we did our thing.
There's a short story by Stephen King called "You know they've got a hell of a band" that imagines Janis and Jimi, Morrison etc..in the afterlife where the show never stops. Eddie just joined being that the story is at least 15 or 20 years old but it kept occuring in to me that he'd be proud to have you playing his guitar as it was his nature to appreciate true fans like you.
Another thing, you really jam! I've seen enough of your videos to know that already but I feel it needs to be mentioned. I have a white pick from the 5150 tour (monsters of rock in Miami 88) with gold leaf signature but I've played with it so you have to read it at an angle so the indentations are visible. Still one of my prized possessions, I wanted some of the mojo to wear off. I don't know about that but some of the gold leaf wore off, that much I know! The picking edge is rounded now. I keep it with a few others but needless to say it's gotta be the coolest one.
I really felt for you on this one thinking, be careful man. Anytime the tremelo arm made audible contact with the body I was thinking, you break it you buy it ! You're fine so don't worry.
Someone would loan you the billion dollars right? Get it from Beato 😂

This was definitely a backup guitar to The 5150. Maybe even further back as I want to remember The 1984 guitar and Steinberger were backups. I’ve been digging around since watching this video and I have found only two pics with this guitar. One is pictured here in Tyler’s video where Eddie is wearing black n white. The other is a cover of “Young Guitar” July 1986 where it looks like this guitar. EVERYTHING ELSE just about, is The 5150. The Frankenstrat is a whole other period. Pretty much all the DLR era even in the Jump video with a different neck (Kramer classic “beak”).

    • @braden2112

      @@GrumpyMJK Here’s the 1986 tour guitar lineup...
      Kramer 5150 - main guitar
Steinberger GL2T- summer nights, get up and MAIN BACKUP
Kramer 1984- “Good Enough alternate tuning”
Kramer beretta “pointy headstocks” - “piano guitars”
Ed had lots of guitars on the 86’ “5150” tour, and FOUR of them had “space tape” stickers.
      The 5150, 1984, 918V, and 1986.
The 5150 and 1984 were his main pacer style guitars with banana headstocks, and the 918V and 1986 were 2 of SEVERAL Beretta guitars that had pointy headstocks..
Between 86 and 88 (according to live video and Zeke Clark) Ed broke a string TWICE.. and both times he immediately changed to the steinberger.. which should be also dubbed THE BACKUP GUITAR. The pointy headstocks and the 1984 were not used as backups.
Ed wanted to play the song 5150 on the Kramer 5150 for obvious reasons, and due to the live singing requirements of that song at the time, (Sammy got better at singing it on future tours and just sang it in standard tuning) they played the song 1 full step down..
After the song Get Up, the (beat up) steinberger and 5150 went backstage to be re-tuned. So for the finale of Als drum solo and the song Dreams, Ed needed SOME guitar to play. That’s where the Baretta “pointy headstock” guitars come in...
Anytime you see Ed playing a pointy headstock Kramer, he is playing the end of Alex’s solo OR the solo from Dreams (from the MANY pics I’ve seen of Ed playing these guitars, I’ve only seen ONE that has evidence of him playing “5150” due to finger positioning) (maybe he tried playing 5150 on one once..) but these pointy headstock guitars should be dubbed the PIANO guitars. Ed even through one on for the “Why Can’t This Be Love” music video just for fun..
The particular guitar up for auction is the “ Kramer 1986”.
Sometime after the tour Ed gave this guitar to MICHAELS bass tech Kevin Dugan.. and sometime after, the guitar was stolen and the person who stole it, ripped off the stickers, and started sanding the paint off.. the guitar was found at some point and half the guitar was repainted. It was then resigned by Ed and he double dated it. 86’ & 95’. Kevin sold it many years ago with Edwards permission. The current owner is a different owner.
( For the record, the middle picture is not Ed holding the guitar.. just a random person/fan)
So what we have here is one of several berettas that was used for “Dreams” a handful of times.. not “the most famous guitar in the world that all the Van Halen songs were played on”
(This little thing I copied and pasted was from a Van Halen historian who has dived very very deep into the Van Halen history. His name is Chris Hubbard and he’ll tell you anything about Van Halen and he has done hours and weeks of research and builds exact EVH guitar replicas)

I'm certainly no expert as a lowly sax player, but this guy's tone and they way he hits all those harmonics is uncanny. Even the nuanced style of his tapping sounds as much like Eddie as I've ever heard.

you can tell he studied music for a long time. It's not just guitar skills. He knows exactly what he's doing.

I always thought the pinch harmonic bend tap in the solo of dreams was one of the coolest most unique sounds ever. Eddie was such an innovator.
