Direct visual and feature comparison of the newly released Dead Space Remake [PC] and the original classic version of the game from 2008.
This video covers a ton of content for Dead Space - all spoiler free, including various gameplay features, visual elements, and core changes. Both games are being played on the PC using the highest visual settings, though Dead Space 2008 has been modified slightly to ensure the brightness appears properly. Dead Space Remake also utilizes Nvidia DLSS in its quality preset for all gameplay sequences, but direct asset comparison like models are compared with DLSS disabled.

Quick Correction:
-While the pulse rifle is automatically available in the store in the original game, you do have to find "schematics" hidden in the old levels to unlock more weapons like the flamethrower. Still - the remake has you find the actual weapons themselves, which I think is a much better way to introduce these weapons to players.
Concur'd. It's... _very_ easy to watch some guides on the game and say "Ugh, flamethrower? No thank you!" or just think "I don't have the money for this, I need NODES"
But this way, you are GOING to get that weapon and you are GOING to try it.
I remember having to grind just to get those weapons.
Well, the point of making that as "schematic first, buy second" in the original is to have a sense of resource management. It's a survival game, you must use items (credits, ammo, nodes) wisely so it would be on your advantage. The new one is less risky and too tame.
@@blukekbruh Imagine playing on the easiest difficulty and saying the game is less risky and too tame xd.
@@fluffywolfo3663 sounds awful
I liked that you can clearly hear Isaac heavy breathing in the original game. It's immersive, makes you feel lonely in those corridors.
Agreed, as well as his heavy footsteps, which give you the sense of the weight of the gear he was wearing
Tbh i didn’t even notice that
why you women and trn men love to fetize us men. Look at his hips. Look at his body structure and the animations are way better in original.
@@youtubehero1764 People can't notice these little details at first look, but they really improve the atmosphere.
it's audible in the remake. i can hear it in my headphones
Its crazy how good the original holds up in 4k
It’s too bad it doesn’t have a framerate buff though
Meh not particularly, in my opinion
@@LeoGaming55 Yeah. Game is basically locked at 60fps. You can force it higher, but the physics get wonky at 120fps.
Same is true for Dead Space 2 and 3 sadly.
This remake is the first dead space that plays properly at high framerates
@@Nick930 Lol you have it good. I forgot to specify that I play on the Xbox Series X, which doesn’t have a performance boost for the original dead space
@@Nick930 60 fps are plenty. Not all people have NASA computers like you do.
I absolutely love the added heartbeat to the remake. Having breathing and his heartbeat audible is just brilliant. Makes it so intense, especially with headphones.
that was there in the original too, just harder to hear
@@YaBoiEye Ah okay that's awesome, I didn't remember that.
@@kieranduffy3434 When i replayed it recently i noticed it, though in the remake, that expanded upon it. Now even running and stuff increases your heartrate, in the original, it increased based off of proximity to the nearest necromorph, and was easier to hear in vacuum environments. I could always tell if something was creeping up behind me by hearing my heartbeat
It’s nice to see things like that in a horror game
I remember seeing that in alien when I was younger.
At the end when Ripley was arming the self destruction sequence
It really gave a tense tone
That heartbeat definitely comes in clutch especially when you are going back through previous sections… it’s kind of like that radar in the Aliens movie lol the game even has music that sounds like the Alien movie
What I really like which another UA-camr pointed out is that, while Isaac finally speaks and has his own dialogue in the game, he only actually speaks when around other people. So unlike most games, let’s say for example, Nathan Drake in Uncharted, he isn’t constantly spouting random dialogue to help the player at key moments. They don’t do that here and I think it was a great choice. I don’t want the character to randomly say something that will conveniently help me figure out the puzzle. The most you will hear from Isaac are his grunts and heavy breathing which is super refreshing and only immerses you more as a player.
They also brought back the cool stomp dialogue from 2 and 3. Really nice touch
Love this comment horizon forbidden west is horrible with this 😂
Didn't they do just that in that new awful God of War game? 😂
There were a couple of moments where Isaac flat out says the solution to a little puzzle. So they do that here after all, but not to the extend as other games.
@@endless_limes what are you talking about ? Kratos is almost never alone of course there's going to be dialogue
The fact that the enemies can be fully covered in darkness is just amazing can’t wait to play it
@Vinny no I’m really excited since it bring new levels of jump scares kinda like the re2 remake did in the rpd section!
Especially if you crank the brightness to zero
@Vinny we are not all haters like you 🤡
I recently went and redownloaded the original game from the Xbox Gamepass to play on my Series X and it was not suited for a 4K television at all and visually didn’t look like it aged very well.
@@tmac326 I think that might be because it’s still using all the old Xbox 360 graphics settings and can’t be pushed any further then that. The new one on ps5 looks and feels amazing so far and I’m gonna assume the Xbox series x version is gonna look just as good
Remake looks great no doubt. But the most shocking thing is how good the original looks still.
Also the shocking thing is the complete lack of discount for anyone who has the original game already. €60 for some extra bells and whistles when all the hard work has been previously done is just bs. Think of all the new AAA games someone could get on Steam at discount for €60.
@@Substance2020 meh, I'll stick to the OG.
@@Substance2020 they did more than just update the graphics you know
15 years ago... imagine
@@GoldenWolf115 “I’m saving so much money by not buying a updated game over ten years later teehee 🤭”
Only thing I wish they'd retain from the original is how Isaac walked. In the original Isaac is terrified, so he's walking around always paranoid, hunched over a little bit like he just wants to cower in a corner, but upright enough like he has to keep remindjng himself to be brave to find his beloved.
In the remake he's walking pretty normal.
a nice detail i noticed at the end of the game tho is that if you look really closely, he’s subtly shaking a lot of the time (look at the plasma cutter to see it best)
@@khogs im at the engineering section and he's already got a bit of a shake to him when holding the plasma cutter lol you can even see his trigger finger twitching like he's just waiting for another necromorph to come around the corner.
he does have that when hes holding his gun out and he shakes quite a bit.
I find it the opposite. In the Remake Isaac is very stiff, like he is ready for anything to jump out at him, unlike the original where he looks pretty relaxed.
I agree 100%. In the remake his steps feel faster and lighter. In the original he stomps so hard and slow like you can feel the weight of the suit.
I loved that the uniforms were included on the new necromorphs and the uniforms fit the area they're in.
yup. constantly reminds u that they were all once regular people
In OG they had uniform too i'll even argue the slashers were more variative in OG than in remake. Like as example those guys in mining section of ship
@@ratking7383Yeah, but wasn't there only, like, 3 variations of Slasher designs? The naked one, the male one, and the female medic jumpsuit one? Oh and the Armored Legs one? And of course the Enhanced Slasher.
absolutely wild how well the original holds up
Ignoring the graphics that still look great, for me it's the gameplay that really blows me away still. SO few games from the PS3/360 gen hold up at all in terms of gameplay, many being next to impossible to enjoy anymore due to the advances in fluidity of modern gameplay. Yet, somehow Dead Space still plays astoundingly well
A wholly unnecessary remake.
@@Grandmastergav86 I know your at least 30
@@Grandmastergav86 I wouldn't say totally unnecessary however I do wish there was even a small discount for players who already own the original because while it looks great $80 + tax for minor tweaks and improvements on already good graphics for a game I've played like 4 times is a bit much. The most noticeable change is the improved lighting.
The developers (specially Glen Schofield) took inspiration from not The Thing and Event Horizon, but also japanese and european horror films, all for the sake of crafting the atmosphere.
Then EA Motive took the atmosphere to a new level, but without sacrificing too much. If the remake succeeds, then we might finally get Dead Space 4 out of the freezer.
The remake is amazing but I love the audio from the original, it’s timeless
Something about the original makes it feel like the noises are surrounding you and echoing from all sides making it feel closer which is why I think I like it better than the remake which sounds a bit more distanced but I really do love the heartbeat effect that was added to the remake.
@Lasumex Aranethon
The heartbeat is one of those things where I'm sort of indifferent to. Like it is neat and all but it can sometimes get a little annoying, that's probably just me though lol
same
Especially when it comes to some of the actors. I miss the OG Kyne...
Dead Space was the first game I played that had its score adapt to what was happening on screen, and was truly terrifying in its application. Jumpscares and fighting sequences were accented by intense scoring that would fade in naturally, and fade out as soon as the coast was clear. The layering in with atmospheric SFX, foley, screams, and gunfire was also very ahead of its time; something I feel that the remake is sorely missing. It was also PIVOTAL to understanding when the player was in danger or not. With the original game devs communicating how hard it was hard to portray an enemy coming from behind you with such a tight third person angle, sound design was an important communication tool for understanding danger. It also worked to deepen the games tension ("why do I hear tense music even though I don't see anything?") with little to nothing visual to cause it. The quarantine comparisons here are so stark. When the quarantine begins in the original, a strong asynchronous bass drum banging (which sounds like movement in vents) can be heard along with the also rhythmic whirling of the alarm, creating a mismatched pattern of sound that creates a more dynamic guttural reaction, heightening the anxiety and tension. Like an unescapable march or war drum, spelling out your demise. In the remake, that drum banging isn't in the scene, and just has the higher pitch rhythm of the alarm. It's a small difference in the big picture, but for a game that had such a lasting impact in its sound design, it's pretty disappointing to see that stripped away.
The original Dead Space still looks beautiful.
Still the best!
The remake is how I remember it looking like back in 2008.
Cant believe how far we've come in 14-15 years.
Not really. Alien isolation looks better. Lol
@@danielyoungblood8525 hmm?

The whispers are insane lol. I've already heard a few like, "self inflicted ocular injury" another mentions recombination. It's awesome and disturbing at the same time..also noticed A LOT more crazy writings and notes on surfaces.
@@andrewwitham8493 I think you mean the AI talking. But I remember him hearing ''Isaac...." and some unintelligible whispers as I was passing through dark corridors. It was indicating he's hallucinating about Nicole. It was almost on the same volume levels as his breathing.
@@arch5701 No, the game has lots of new psychological warfare going on in Isaac’s head.
im playing the game right now and i heard a whisper say "issac help me" it was fucking spooky man
Played it with headphones on in the pitch black darkness last night. Those whispers made my skin crawl.
8:46 the original lighting for that particular scene looks so much better because in the original it flashes the necromorph then it keeps moving to show the silhouette. The remake just keeps light on it. There’s something about the original that kicks in a primal sense of fight or flight.
If you REALLY wanna see the power of the peeling system, try using the force gun on the necromorphs. It’s pretty dope how you can see their bones and stuff
Yes!!
Force gun was one of my fav guns in the original. It’s even better now because of this feature alone lol so cool.
The flamethrower peels them, and so does the prototype stasis you get for doing one of the side quests
I love it. Especially if they survive, so you then have a skeletal necromorph coming at you. Looks even more nightmarish.
I love how true to the OG this is. It feels like it was made with so much love and attention to detail. As someone who loved these games, playing this remake felt so familiar yet so new and it is just very well done.

@@NeThsDomain I mean, I understand where his coming from. EA remastered Burnout paradise; (a series that has been dead for some time now) and it sold fairly well and I gave hope to all the fans of the franchise to see another game or a remaster and we haven't heard anything since then
I’m currently on chapter 5 of the remake. Absolutely loving it so far, but my favorite thing about it is probably the fact that they actually got Gunner Wright back to play Isaac. I freaked out when I heard his voice in a trailer, just so cool. It still blows my mind we have new lines for Isaac from Gunner Wright after so many years.
What about ugly female characters?
I’ve played through the remake 5 times already and am currently attempting my 3rd impossible run. The first 2 the game broke on me but I think that’s my fault for being to good. None of the characters designs bug me. At all if they do to you then you need to get over yourself. They are modeled after their voice actors so it make sense why they look they way they do.

I like all the character designs. Nicole looks fine to me, especially if we consider both Isaac and Nicole are in their 40s. I've always thought Kendra has always been attractive, and Cross looks adorable. Jacob Temple done well.
Imo the sound for old version is better , his breath and footsteps making us really feel the terror of being alone in the environment , waiting for enemies. But the lighting work on the new remake makes the corridors as creepy as it always has
I've got something special for you 🎊 .
Theres actually a whole thing called the ALIVE system, isaacs heartbeat will slowly speed up when running or jumpscared
The intensity of sound effects in the classical one is priceless
Finally, a remake that _DOESN'T_ ruin the game, but improves on it!
Didn't they ruin the character models and made one if the women gay for no reason
RE2?
Mafia 1?
I can't think of many remakes that ruin the game...
@@talpatv512 Plenty of people have issues with Mafia Definition Edition. I loved it, but diehard fans don't like the changes to the story or the bonus open world mode.
audio from the original is definitely the only part I think they did worse with the remake, Isaac's breathing, the overall depth of the sound in the environments, overall, the sound just had so much more going on with it.
To be fair you can still hear all of this in the remake they just made it way quieter so you can only really hear it with headphones
both are beautiful games. I prefer the original's sound design, which I think is a result of the creators understanding their visual limitations, and so gave it more emphasis, with everything else looking like an improvement in the remake. I cannot wait to play it.
I prefer the sounds from the original, the OG plasma cutter and pulse rifle sound beefier
agreed the remake plasma cutter doesn't have any punch to it.
I have to disagree with you on that. Grab some decent pair of over the ear headphones and twerk the sound settings they sound beefier and more powerful like the original...or you're simply getting older thus your hearing is getting weaker
i was just thinking that. The originals had such a deep resonating thud sound when you fired them, they sounded like you were launching big hunks of super heated energy at an enemy and it was just powerful. the plasma cutter kinda sounds a little too pew pew instead of the original boom boom
@@Faded.Visuals it should sound better by default tho
Nostalgia burnes
The breathing was the one thing that stuck with me in the original. It sounded scared and empty. Such a great game.
The original still looks fantastic in its own right, just fiddle with brightness settings etc and play with headphones
Great comparison! I LOVED my playthrough of the remake. I don't believe you touched on it, but motive studios also implemented a new AI fear system that has thousands of random events, jump scares, and enemy spawns that could happen during a playthrough. I noticed getting more of these when I slowed down my playing style. It really helped my stay on my toes and keep immersed
Exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Nick u have the best comparisons and documentaries on the platform
One thing I like about the classic game is that the necromorphs would roar and sprint towards you with their claws flaring all over the place. In the remake, they don’t do that at all. They will run at ya, but they aren’t as menacing.
After playing both, I say the old one still looks very good has it's original charm, and aged well.
Good to hear. I do not have a Playstation 5. I have a PS4 which I heard you can not play the Remake on it. But I can get the original now for cheap! I never played it. Sounds like from what you posted. I would not miss much with the Remake.
I am glad that EA realised that single player games aren't dead.
It never was.
unless they want to milk the corpse of course
@@iamboringvideos6832 they ended up milking it to death the first time so why not do it again with new fans or ones with short term memories
they are greedy and werent able to make any new games that catch on like this did 15 years ago.
I feel like the sound in the original was louder, more inmersive and forced (in a good way) to be scary. In the remake i feel it quieter, more realistic maybe but not so inmersive like in the original. Maybe its just the nostalgia. Everything else looks amazing.
I didn’t play the original and it sounds better than the remake. Weird that they decided on this route. I guess to be more “realistic” but that doesn’t always mean better
Sound design in regards to the atmosphere as well as voice acting were leagues better in the OG.
However the remake made major improvements to the sound of Isaac’s tools (save for the ripper, of did it better)
The contact beam’s charge up sounds and looks as beefy as the damage it does.
This speaks to a wider problem in both the game and movie industry that no one knows how to sound mix any more.
The opposite for me
@@greatdelusion7654 Spot on, Crazy how badly some games sound now...
I can't stand Hogwarts Legacy with headphones on the Mixing is just awful
That necromorph forcing its way through the door is so much more intimidating in the first game. The blood and bile pouring out of its mouth, the messy strands of hair, and the inhuman way it forces its way through the door are just beautiful.
Was thinking the same. Why no tentacles reaching for you out of it's mouth in remake? The strobbing bottom-lit lighting is also better, IMO. Everything so glossy...
I agree also the face in original looks more creepy than Remake
@@LLAAPPSSEEthe glossiness of games over the past decades really disturbs me. It’s awful. Plastic.
It's really the one real bad example of the remake. It's a strange choice. It's such a slow animation too. It's really weird. It's like they used some generic zombie-type animation.
I also remember having the necromorph's head roll around with you in the elevator in the original lol
Not gonna mention Nicole now being a granny and Issac on the other hand looking way younger and healthier (also like Adam Sandler)? I feel like the original's bassy and echo-y sound design made blows and shots feel far more powerful and meaningful, and the ambience and other stuff made it far more scary. I really don't think this remake was at all needed, i'd much rather have a dead space 3 remake, or just straight out ds4
Can’t wait to play it. Only thing that bothers me is not hearing Isaac breathe in idle spaces and his walking animations are a little stiff. But still gonna play the hell out of this
He still does breath, it's just quieter and gets louder during tense situations. Also the new walking animations are stiff but i think they fit better for Issac who's walking around in a giant heavy work suit
You can hear his breathing quite well actually, played the game with some decent headphones and you can hear both his breathing and his heart beating too, especially after running for a few seconds or after finishing an intense fight
The remake is great so far, my only complaint is the footsteps are abit quiet and the stomp isn’t as aggressive / loud as the original.
All these replies are making me more excited to play
Breathing is there, don’t worry.
I waited for this, thank you! Definitely the best comparions on UA-cam! Keep 'em coming and keep up the amazing work you're doing, Nick!
Something that I noticed is that necromorphs don’t run towards you in the remake. In the classic game some necromorphs would run towards you as soon as they spot you and that’s freaking scary and stressful
They still run while flailing in this, but it's rare and is usually a set up for a lunge attack
Really? They chase me around a lot.
They run in the remake.
@@ShymNoiz Probably they fixed it already, they didn't run a week ago
@@trickjacko8482 no they always ran
Something not a lot of people have been noting too is some of the subtle changes to keep it in line with Dead Space 2, and not just zero-g.
For instance, in the original, if you killed an enemy it immediately dropped an item. In the remake, you have to either shoot or stomp the corpse to get them to drop an item... the same as it was in Dead Space 2 and 3. There is so many subtle improvements that make it definitively better, even if some aspects of the original were better than the remake.
Finding the weapons instead of offering them with new chapters feels very much like Doom. I like this change a lot.
The biggest thing I noticed about this game versus the OG is how much darker the Ishimura looks in pretty much every section. It's a good design choice but there are actually certain scenes from the original that look better to me. But just a few. Overall the new one looks way creepier.
I'm imagining a DS2 remake and them recreating that one really pretty skybox from that game, the one outside a window. I can't remember which chapter it was from as it's been a decade plus since I've played it but I think some of you know what I'm talking about.
The Government Sector?
I’m thinking of the window from the room just before the elevator that takes you to Daina.
I like finding weapons because it makes people actually check out and use other weapons instead of just fully upgrading the plasma cutter XD that thing was OP. There's a reason One Gun was an achievement you could unlock. It's very easy to do
Yeah i never liked finding parts for just 1 weapon
Don't you mean spacebox?
I actually prefer the old sound design. Hearing Isaac's breathing constantly helped isolate him from the environment imo, and enhanced the feeling of being alone.

Not gonna lie, the OG version still holds up quite well.
I like the way there is no longer plasma cutter ammo drop in middle chapters, it forces player to use other guns and ripper and contact beam guns are so good.
Haven’t watched the whole video yet. But playing some of the remake I noticed it seems Issac doesn’t have any different walk animations depending on his health.

Absolutely. The clunky controls were one of the few blemishes of the original, while the controls in the remake are absolutely perfect! Perfect sensitivity and precision and the seamless walking speeds are perfect too.

sure mouse and keyboard might be easier, but ur form of controller shouldn't matter much in a single player game like this. there are plenty of single player games with shooting that can be smoothly played on a controller.
this isnt valorant or COD. its not meant to be competitive. its supposed to be a single player game where how well u can aim is only so important. the smoothness of the gameplay is more important
I actually vastly prefer Hammond's voice acting in the original, and the sound design as a whole. It feels so muted, and tame by comparison so far. Great VA by Hammond's new actor, but the original just carried the vocal performance of the game for some reason.
the sounds in the old one is way better
Of course the new character model looks better and is way more detailed, but I think they should have stuck to the more simple style of the original.
While the OG looks like an everyday dude who got thrown into this situation, remake dude looks like the regular badass mf video game protagonist.
they actually have the classic look of the original DS level 3 suit but its DLC/Deluxe Edition
I'd say the original face of isaac on a surface level looks more detailed like his slight stubble, age visibility and having slight grey hair at the side which the remake isaac obviously looks graphically better... it's just that gunner wrights model ingame looks bland in comparison to the original

Yeah sound is awesome specially with the headphones you need to play it in PS5 with 3D audio and trigger feature
It might just be me, but I miss the original firing sound for the Plasma Cutter, the new one sounds weak & quiet compared to the booming & explosive sound of the original.
Yes. The original "weapons" sounded like heavy tools from worksite. Not just gunshots but beefy jackhammers of some sort. The sound design of the remake is very much the most desapointing thing in this remake. Also... the monster seemed more aggressive and enraged when screaming and yelling in the Original.
Didnt the old issac show more hurt and heavy breathing when low in health rather then the remake, i swear he looked like he was actually trying to keep moving rather then the remake looking like he was always ready to fight even when health was low
Your videos are so well-made and they are very informative and entertaining! Thank you and keep up the good work
You make the best comparison vids bro. Congrats.
Finally! The detailed comparison that we’re waiting for Nick style.
Great job as usual.
ngl certain scenes the original feels more immersive and thus better imo
Necromorphs sounded way more threatening in the original, especially the Brute and Exploder. In the remake they all sound quieter. The combat music is still great thankfully.
What I noticed with the sound design is, Isaac had to breathe louder constantly because he has no voice. That was the developer's way to build up a connection to the player.
Great video. I'm curious if the pixelated ssr reflections are a result of using dlss or if you were at native resolution at the time?
SSR is often rendered at 1/4 or even 1/8 res in a lot of games with no option to change it, so I'm not expecting dlss to have been the cause but it is possible.
Exactly my thought. So i disabled the dlss and nope... its just the ultra setting for screen space reflections
Try going into nvidia control panel and setting texture filtering to high quality and see if it helps with the reflections
@@GodActio textures filtering is an entirely different effect, and one that is often set quite high in modern games anyway
@@existentialselkath1264 yeah, just looked through some other guides, you are entirely correct
probably not, i saw that same effect in the same area on an xbox series x. Think it's just a more general rendering issue, similar to how the lab looked in RE2.
They put so much into the detail of the remake that I heard even the sounds he makes during the iconic stomp change throughout the game to show Issacs slow descent into madness
What I think the remake captures perfectly is the way that we remember Dead Space. It's pretty easy to think back on a game that came out so long ago and remember it looking much better than it actually does. The remake really just makes the game look and feel like how I remember the original feeling at the time. It made me fall in love with the franchise all over again and I can't wait to to play it through again.
I don't know man. I remember characters having different faces and Nicole being like 30 years younger.
For real. I immediately wondered why Isaac's girlfriend was so old. Surprised his crewmate didn't ask if that was his mom.
Using the force gun at close range and instantly shedding an enemy’s skin is something else.
The gravity well looks sick also!!!
The classic has my heart since day one exploring ISHIMURA and the horrifying screams. This remake takes it to a whole new level. The haptic feedback from the ps ,lighting, resolution, audio. Just getting giddy watching Isaac put his helmet. The OG’s know it makes you feel like a badass saying ‘HERE WE GO’
man, i never stop watching your videos, keep going !
Keep it on man, i always enjoyed your works!
The classic dead space still so good
imho, the OG had much better color grading (light orange + teal VS oversaturated orange + green) and better sound design.
I also don't like what they did to the characters, and find the remake way too dark. Feels like every environment is the same black hole.
nah the OG's color grading is very much of the era and looks super ugly. It has the late 2000's Unreal Engine 3 look
@@bitbat9 You don't get it, that's all
Awesome comparison! As always by you. We will now ask for a duel Dead Space Remake vs The Callisto Protocol. It's going to be amazing.
I love how you can hear Isaacs rapid heartbeat when he is scared shitless. Its so immersive
It is very inconsistant, it doesn't get as fast as it's supposed to for a ordinary guy to be in that situation and it doesn't come up everytime.
@@finnish_hunter There's a point where they can't really make everything 100% realistic due to possible annoyances. Carrying all that gear and running, shooting and dodging, you'd probably sound asthmatic af but hearing your character heavily breath all the time isn't exactly pleasing in the ears, especially if you're trying to listen to audio files, sounds, anything.
Edit: also just thought, being in a closed off helmet, having your breathing constantly smacking against metal and amplifying it even more so, god damn that'd be fucked. I'm playing an atmospheric horror game, not Tarkov.
@@jagglejiggle7108 The breathing brings atmosphere, Isaac is scared shitless and no wonder, it fits to Dead Space and the other noises and sounds are hearable even when Isaac is breathing. I don't think it bothered anyone at all but I guess people are different.
it was also in the original
@@IAmGameAddicted yes maybe but not as it is in this game where you approach a scary room and Isaac heartbeat will start going fast
New coat of paint is good n all but there is something "sweet" about great classic graphics in 4K. Plus the sound in original is way more atmospheric.
Not to mention they botched all the sounds desgins for the necromorphs. Those twiggy ones with the exploding arms don't scream when they spawn anymore and I keep getting sneaked up on, it's pretty frustrating
I don't understand why did they make hallways and some other spaces bigger/wider. It takes away from the horror, 'cause in the original you would feel claustrophobic.
Also, new dialogue and voice lines sound very bland, even in the intense situation. Only Isaac sounds convincing, guess because Gunner Wright already has experience with this series and his character
excellent in depth comparison. thanks for creating this video!!!
I love how in the remake the camera never leaves Isaac and that theres no cut scenes it really adds to the horror atmosphere
The remake looks great, but some of the animations of the original feels to have more impact, espeacially with the necromorths. The foot stomp also feels weaker. Dunno, maybe it's just me?
the remake looks absolutely gorgeous! I think it could have benefited from an optional first-person mode (the ingame hud would perfectly work in such a perspective)
VR ftw!!
@@Carcosahead VR would actually kinda be perfect, the lasers that come off the weapons (like the plasma cutter) would be a lot easier to aim and see where youre shooting in Vr compared to conventional FPS Guns having a wacky laser coming out of the barrel taking you out of the immersion
Dead Space Extraction Remake would be perfect for VR
So glad I got to live through both generations of these games
The only thing you missed that I think is really cool is the secret ending you get by collecting all the marker fragments, it teases at a dead space 2 remake as well, since dead space 1 was made with no sequels in mind so they gave us a cliffhanger. But with the new ending it shows how Issac went insane and is saying he needs to make something special for Nicole “hinting that it’s a marker”
Wonder if they'll remake ds2 because if they do, I sure hope they'll have the mp for it as that was quite fun to play
Omg ds2 remake multiplayer, only we can hope
A detailed as the remake might look, I find that too much detail makes it hard to see what is going on because everything seems so cluttered in modern games
This is a good point, while the game does look really nice and the team did a good job, readability goes down with all the extra clutter.
Things that don't help and stuff I can point to:
Large amount of repeating panel cut lines and samey details, bright metal edge wear on everything creating more highlights than needed, excessive specular reflections on almost all surfaces that make the environment look greasy and shiny, etc... Also, the extremely dark and dim atmosphere doesn't help, it hides all the hard work. I'm nitpicking here but just some things I notice that give credit to the OG design.
I choked to death during the asteroid part because the walls were so detailed i didnt see the oxygen stations mounted on them lol
classic atmospheric sound for sure FTW
Audio is better in original I think, sounds much more raw. Footsteps and guns are heavier, voices are great. Destruction of environment (vents, boxes, etc), the alarms, and enemies still sound amazing.
Ambiance noise seems a bit better in remake though.
@AutismoGamer Finally someone understands it falls into the typical horror genre, rather than allow the environment and mood to assist in the lifting. It instead relies on the characters, people forget that backgrounds are characters too. While the remake may look pretty on the surface it fails to tell a story without speaking. If that makes any sense, truly a tell not show conundrum.
One thing I noticed in this video that breaks immersion in the remake; during the scene with chapters talking to one another about rerouting power, they are facing one another and appear more animated in classic. In the remake they’re all still and facing away from one another, which seems off to me.
One thing I like better about the sound design in the original is the breathing from Issac. It just sounds more like a human breathing in a metal helmet vs the remake sounding simply like a machine hissing.
Nah remake sounds good like it should
i agree but i feel like the remake sounds more realistic for what is supposed to be some sort of futuruistic suit that covers ur entire body like that.
@@fruitygranulizer540 I get that but I just feel like for a horror game it’s a bit more fitting to hear his breathing, it adds to the unnerving atmosphere
@@ItsaSkillishu true
@@ItsaSkillishuexcept normally you wouldn’t hear someone breath through a high tech helmet, i don’t understand how breathing makes a game scary.
Nicole looks like she shot from her early 20s to her late 40s between games. feels like issacs flying out to visit his mom now
She's actually quite old, this is more accurate.
@@davidcardozo290 she looks like 60 lmao
@@Mortis3897 Let's say she wasn't using make-up or something
@@Mortis3897 Well, then u dont know how 60 yr old women look like then
Isaac is canonically 47 himself, don’t see what the problem is.
Absolutely holds up to this day
Whether it's the 08 or the remake this series is a classic!
Hopefully RE4 doesn't disappoint
Can't wait for that History of Dead Space video. One is surely needed if we want more Dead Space games.
its funny how nicole looks older and hammond looks younger in this remake
ive only played the remake bu the sounds when walking around or screams and crawling in vents etc is so real it insane
Been waiting on this one Nick. I've never played one of the dead space games. Looking forward to playing it. Also, congrats on almost hitting 500K brother - well deserved.
Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but to me the original looks more "readable" and recognizable.
The remake is also a bit too dark overall.
