This is from an era when music was produced by real musicians. I discovered Supertramp in my late teens but this still has the ability to move me 40 years later. Sheer genius!
I remember going from my hometown, CHICAGO to Alpine Valley concert hall to see Supertramp. We couldn't get any seats so we were up on the grass and it had rained and we all had soaked feet and wet asses but we didn't care 1bit cuz we were so mesmerized by the music. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. It was 8/82. I framed most of my concert tickets and found great wall art in them and I went to ALOT OF CONCERTS. Life was fun and good and much simpler than life is now that I m 62 and just survived breast cancer surgery on top of having MS. I'm glad I did all that crazy shit when I was younger. Best Era to live in ever.
This song is a masterpiece itself, but with an orchestra is sublime. I was very fortunate to have enjoyed it with orchestra in Valladolid a few years ago. I wish I could repeat such a unique experience...
Lucky you. I saw Roger perform in Australia in recent times. It was a thrill to see him in the flesh. Sadly Supertramp was no more. But yes, this is an absolute masterpiece
It will never die when you and me listen every day, and pretend we are back in those times, nothing that musicians of today come close, but we know talent when we hear it, we come back to all these bands and groups, because we have memories that we hold onto, we only share them with the music of our time, we had our time, the youngsters today have their music, it is not intended for us, so we in turn enjoy what filled our days, and they have theirs, we are all lucky to enjoy all kinds of music.
This man is a musical genius and the only reason that I started playing the piano at the age of 12. After listening to Crime of the Century album for the hundredth time, I went to the piano and without even knowing what note I was playing, figured out all of the songs. 38 years later, after a long career as a musician, I still know them.

Ahhhh, to have discovered Supertramp whilst in Paris, the mid-seventies, with my entire life in front of me, twenty three years of age! Letting someone touch you is a very universal process. Some ingredients are the prerequisites for that. Firstly mental injuries must been occurred to one person from other persons. Secondly there must be the feeling to be absolutely alone in this world, not physically, but only that there is momentary no person who understands you really. Thirdly there must be quietness. Inspired by a sound a sort of healing of the suffered mental hurts occurs. The miracle is that this feeling everything time and again occurs if the chord progression is repeated. This process can last from 40 years ago until today. Only a person who is healing itself in the same way or had felt the same can produce such a sound. Thank you for this direct link to the person who really understands me. If there is no other person there nevertheless is the assurance that god is at least listen. Thank you for the healing each time I hear your sound.

I was at this concert in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 2004. It was amazing! The performance took place as part of the Night of the Proms Tour. The Night of the Proms is a spectacular celebration of classical music and pop that takes place every year. In 2004 in Germany Roger Hodgson and pop artists Joe Cocker, Shaggy, and DJ Bobo performed their greatest hits with the accompaniment of a 70-piece symphonic orchestra, 50-person choir, and the John Miles Electric Band. I've been going to the NOTP for 21 years and I'm always amazed by the artists.
Thank you UA-cam for sharing this with the world.. Music like this should be shared. This piece of music is a Classic and will live on forever and ever. Wow what a wonderful performance ... Be safe all.
And The Mastery Of Roger Hodgson To Create A Masterpiece Was Only Possible As Roger's Heart Was Moved By Father God So Our Own Hearts Would Be Touched..
Very very brave to even consider a live performance of this epic song. But then when you have Rodger this seems the right thing to do. We are so lucky to have these kind of musicians that know what they are doing. I do try to listen to modern music i am 78, and crap is the best word i can come up with any music since 1990. They gave us such memories of our lives nothing can compare, thank you all.
I lived in Liverpool 62-65 and you know who came from there! The greatest band ever, but this song is better than "A Day In the Life"!!! This song is a Masterpiece, and I had the pleasure of seeing Supertramp 3 times. After 50 years of concerts this is in my top 10 shows, and gives me the shivers it is so good!!! Hi from New Zealand. I am originally from the Wirral and studied my engineering degree at the Poly on Byrom Street from 1974 - 1979. I was fortunate to see Supertramp midweek at the Empire in 1976. Then the BBC did a "Sight and Sound" broadcast on the following Saturday night from another venue. Fantastic experiences. We had the old sterio system set up either side of thev tv (maybe black and white then :-) ). Happy memories.
Amen!! The man is a musical genius. I can't wait to see him in St. Petersburg next March with an Orchestra!!!! I've seen him 7 times but this show will the first and I'm sure will be the best!! Fool's Overture with an Orchestra. A show for the ages!!!!!! It can't get here soon enough.
Wow. I know it isn't Supertramp but its close enough for me. Spectacular performance and Roger's voice holds up 30 years after the original. Any Canadians remember the opening and closing of this song as the 1980s theme music for the current affairs show W5?
tippi2head: Yup, I do. I also remember seeing Supertramp on their 'Even in The Quietist Moments' tour with Chris De Burgh opening. What a sublime evening that was.
I always wanted to know what the theme music from w5 was. I recently bought a tape deck with an assortment of tapes and by chance one of them was Supertramp "even in the quietest moments". One day I played the tape and had my mind blown when I realized my age old question had just been answered. AWESOME
Whenever I am feeling a bit blue I simply turn my frown right side up by listening to this Masterpiece. The mix of the orchestra instruments, piano, flute, creates a melancholy blend that is simply 'divine'.
AART DEKKER
This gives me a certain chill, a rise in my soul that is almost a religious experience. I attend church, and I wouldn't play this in worship but after services it adds my experience.

Oh wow! Brillant. I used to come home from school and play this album in my bedroom as loud as I could without being told to turn it down. This song is an incredible masterpiece, so glad I found this, thank you
I've been fortunate to see Roger as an individual act every time he comes to my town. The music is as sharp, as sublime, as uplifting live as it was on record. I look around the venue and see nothing but joy from every other patron enjoying his music.
Thank so much Sir ! Supertramp was one amongst the first bands that I discovered when I was a teenager. It was and it still is my best favorite band. I can't find the words to express my feelings and I don't know how to tell you my gratitude for your beautiful music. May God bless you and reward you !
Roger IS the voice of Supertramp.. Saw him last month in the Midwest in the USA a few times. He plays ALL the hits and sings just as a great as he did in the 70's. He tours with a GREAT band if he does a show anywhere near you, you must go see him for a wonderful, beautiful and spiritual evening..
To my opinion on a good day his vocals are now better than when he was young. And the slight lowering of his voice did well for him. Fools Overture was well played by the band Supertramp, too. I'd say as good as a band could possibly play live. It was a bit different, but I did not miss the orchestra. This version certainly is grandiose.
2:26 "We shall go on to the end. We shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall never surrender....." Sir Winston Churchill
"We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..." *Unedited* Winson Churchill

Just stumbled onto this. One of the best live versions I've heard out there... Reminds me of the first time I've heard it as a 14 yr old.
Sounds great Roger!
I truly wish that W5 could have given a good background as to this theme song that was used for a number of years. Mark
Yes I do.
I always wanted to know what the theme music from w5 was. I recently bought a tape deck with an assortment of tapes and by chance one of them was Supertramp "even in the quietest moments". One day I played the tape and had my mind blown when I realized my age old question had just been answered. AWESOME
yes me to
nothing more to say than: FANTASTIC!
After all those years I'm always getting goos bumps if i hear this work.
Thank you very much Roger for this great work!!!!
Noch einmal so schön wie immer wieder
My favorite Super Tramp song
Whenever I am feeling a bit blue I simply turn my frown right side up by listening to this Masterpiece. The mix of the orchestra instruments, piano, flute, creates a melancholy blend that is simply 'divine'.
So powerful, brings tears to my eyes everytime
AART DEKKER
Still my favourite song after all these years.... pure genius. Thanks, Roger.
I'm Brazilian, I live in Brazil and I really like your music.
This gives me a certain chill, a rise in my soul that is almost a religious experience. I attend church, and I wouldn't play this in worship but after services it adds my experience.
BRILLIANT SIR ROGER....🙏😇👑💖🏰
💎🌟👏 thank you!
I was introduced to this fabulous piece by a girlfriend in 1981.
What a masterpiece ❤️

Oh wow!
Super band. Talent you don't see every day (2020..) Will always listen to their beautiful music! ☆
Absolutely remarkable.
what great song , wonderfull. I love it I hope i can sea Rodger life
This is a real Master piece of the greatest music of all times
The passion that oozes from this performance is overwhelming.
Thank so much Sir ! Supertramp was one amongst the first bands that I discovered when I was a teenager. It was and it still is my best favorite band. I can't find the words to express my feelings and I don't know how to tell you my gratitude for your beautiful music. May God bless you and reward you !
SHE WILL.....😇🙏💖
Absolutamente magistral.
Totalmente maravilloso.
¿Qué más se puede decir?
as true as what, it couldn't be more beautiful, ... thank you Roger it touches me deeply. what a beautiful song.
An eternal classical masterpiece from way back when music was honoured as as it should.
2:26 "We shall go on to the end. We shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall never surrender....." Sir Winston Churchill
I always thought that this song is an '' Hommage ', to Chruchill.
Winston Churchill Imperialist murderer. Hated in Ireland, India, Burma, Pakistan.....the list goes on.
@@norwegianzound I guess you would prefer to be speaking German then I take it!
@@norwegianzound how was Churchill an Imperialist?
"We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..." *Unedited* Winson Churchill
Those lyrics are out of this world...and the music is sublime
Roger Hogson a giant
One of my most favorite versions of Fool's Overture. Thank you Roger!
I used to play this every day in my 20's.
One of my first concerts, Three Rivers stadium 1979.
