Fool's Overture - Voice of Supertramp Roger Hodgson w Orchestra
- Former Supertramp lead singer and co-founder Roger Hodgson wrote and composed this song by himself. He has talked about how when he composed it he always saw it being played with an orchestra. So, seeing it with an orchestra, we are seeing it the way the composer originally intended it. This epic is on the album "Even in the Quietest Moments." Autographed CD at www.rogerhodgso....
Roger is currently on Tour, selling out shows all over the globe. Roger performs his songs in a variety of formats so you can see him at an acoustic show, band show or orchestra. I love them all. Info on www.rogerhodgso... or / rogerhodgson .
Roger Hodgson has been recognized as one of the most gifted composers, songwriters and lyricists of our time. The songs Roger sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music.
Even though Roger and Rick shared writing credit, they each wrote and composed separately with each singing their own respective songs. Roger wrote many of the band's hits while he was still in his teens, before he even met Rick. When Roger was with Supertramp, he would make a demo of the song and bring it to the band for them to learn their parts. Supertramp as a band never wrote and composed together. There were only two songwriters for the band. Roger composed many of the songs that brought Supertramp worldwide acclaim such as Give a Little Bit, Dreamer, Take the Long Way Home, Breakfast in America, School, It's Raining Again, Fool's Overture and so many more. Roger still performs all of the classics and also selections from his several solo albums. There's a Repertoire page on Roger's site where you can read about his songs and how he composed them. bit.ly/1Kfgu0W

"Fool's Overture had everyone mesmerized. The lyrics, sounds, vibe in the room all was magical. Roger had everyone in his hands. An absolutely amazing performance. So much so that as people were leaving, I overheard many say they are already planning to come back next year."
"This performance was jaw dropping. It was like turning the clock back 25 years. Roger's voice was as it was in Supertramp's heyday."

The most under-rated band of all time. I had all their albums as they came out. Crime of the Century!! I knew I had great taste!!
I brought my daughter to see roger in the Royal Albert hall 4 years ago for her 40th birthday, we had 3 days in London,,,,,, but if I’m honest I was fulfilling my own dream,,, we both loved it anyway 😂
Orchestra gives another dimension and depth to this masterpiece ❤️
The Grammy's couldn't handle this. This is pure music, talent and entertainment on a level they don't recognize anymore.
Adam Whiteside divino hermoso
Adam Whiteside. So so true .this is a what a performance looks like .
Adam Whiteside just like Hall of Fame snubbed Judas Priest... Timeless Genious

This is one of the best pieces of music ever written by anyone on this planet.
I totally agree.
ABSOLUTELY!!👍
I agree
Agreed♥️
I am sitting here at my desk with tears in my eyes ,this song just gets me every time .Take care man.
You're the best 💕
I've said elsewhere that, in my opinion, Roger Hodgson is one of the greatest musicians and composers of 20th century popular music. This particular piece, though, goes beyond even that. For its sheer artistry, originality, and soul-stirring qualities it stands alongside the likes of "I am the walrus", "Stairway to heaven", and "MacArthur Park".
I agree 100%. I'd even say it ranks up there with Bohemian Rhapsody. Truly one of the Masterpieces of the modern Era.
@@muskokamike127 Exactly what I was going to write!! Fool's Overture should be as least as known and as celebrated as Bohemian Rhapsody.
Roger is!! I never tire of watching and listening to his melodies . Thank you.
😺🌵💞
I think Pink Floyd and Tears for Fears belong to the same genious club.
I couldn't have said it any better myself. The performance in this video (with the orchestra) was spectacular! They don't make songs like this anymore that's for sure!!!
Nearly 50 years old, yet it still moves me as it did the first time that I listened to it on Paris Live, thank you Mr. Hodgeson for creating the most memorable song of all time. I applaud your brilliance. Long live Fool's overture. And its creator. Thank you for the music.

Some songs that are eternal. 3 thousand years from now there will be people listening to music like this.
The most beautiful thing in the world, progressive rock, is priceless!
YES PRICELESS
Tottaly agree with you... I'm 29 years old and for me, progressive is a fucking medicine for my soul.
a piece of art, this is amazing, but i hate roger hodgson for negating the rest of the band.
De Purc
I totally agree with you.
but what about phsycodilic rock?
like Pink Floyd , ...
It happens - personality differrences, musical differences, lives move on with marraige, children etc. Life doesn't stand still. He allowed them to continue the name of Supertramp and it was agreed which writer had claim to which songs, it was also then agreed that the remaining Supertramp didn't perform any of Roger's songs and he wouldn't perform any not written by himself. This was adherred to for a while until audiences dwindled for Supertramp because the vast majority of the better songs were Roger's, the band then broke the agreement and played Roger's songs to bring back ticket sales. To my knowledge, Roger never played any of Rick Davies' songs. He certainly didn't when I saw him in London this year and I've never seen any footage of him doing so. His current band is awesome. Long may they continue. If you get a chance to see them live then do so.You will not be disappointed.
I love it, but I don’t understand why it makes me emotional enough to shed tears?
Thank you Roger Hodgson for sharing this with a world that does not deserve your genius.
I always wonders what went through his mind when he performed this masterpiece for the first time live with an Orchestra and Choire. That must have been glorious feeling. ❤❤❤
He was probably relieved he finally got through it with all the moving parts involved….
You can hear him whoop at one point.
How is it possible to give this a negative review. It is simply beautiful.
Still the best live and recorded performances I've had the pleasure of hearing.
Masters at work.❤
I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to be in that room with Roger and that orchestra and choir. Tears are just pouring down my cheeks...
Truly epic song. Even in the Quietest Moments I bought on vinyl late 70s, still have it, still play it. It's one of my fav albums ever. A true masterpiece.
I just found this today. Wow
@@lindafay6637 You mean you’ve never heard it before? It will grow on you more and more, it’s just amazing and timeless. Get the album Even in the Quietest Moments …you will love it!
I've seen this man in concert twice and both times walked away in awe of what an amazing man and performer he is ..... such a gifted , talented man and thank you Roger for the many years of joy you've given us all .
This is pure perfection!
One of - if not THE - favorite song for me by Supertramp/Hodgson and this orchestral arrangement brought the power of this composition to its full glory. I have always thought the band was a bit underrated for their musicianship, and Hodgson for his compositions. This performance, even as old as it is, sent chills down my spine.
Brilliant song with an even more brilliant line straight out of history: 'We shall never surrender'...this line always gives me goosebumps!
💯
I was introduced to Supertramp in the 80' by my brother in law who gave me a couple of his old albums and fell in love with their music but never heard of and thought I never heard fool's overture until very recently when I was in a nostalgic mood and I came across it and 1 section which I remembered clearly but could not quite place it other than a news show I watched. Imagine my surprise when I looked it up and found out it was Canada's W5's theme back in the day.
"Fool's Overture is one of my favorite pieces that I've ever written. It was very magical the way it came together. It was actually three separate pieces of music that I had for a few years and then, one day, they kind of all slotted together in what I think is a magnificent, kind of epic piece of music. I always imagined performing it with an orchestra, so when I did start playing with orchestras back in the '90s, it was such a thrill to play this song. I still get goosebumps to his day every time I get an opportunity perform it with an orchestra." ~Roger Hodgson
Rodger cant wait to see you cime back to Stlouis Mo. You are so incredibly gifted. I'd love to say hi to you someday.
This tore my heart into pieces, my emotional response was illogical, such a master piece. ❤
THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks Roger, you have amazing music
Crisis, what crisis, even now with c
and I get goosebumps every time I listen to it. such an awesome piece.
When music was made with actual instruments and passion. This song for me stands as one of the testaments to great visions and talents.

"Call the man a fool, strip him of his pride, Everyone was laughing up until the day he died." Now I'm crying. I love his depth. Love the orchestra and the chorus, too.
One of the very best musical pieces of modern time. The fine blending of sounds and words from history all comes together to paint a musical master piece

Brilliant song by Roger, it is so incredible to hear this masterpiece live in his concerts. You feel the music, notes, the rhythm through you, your heart and soul are immersed in grandiose, aural bliss. Take note : *Do not* miss the chance to see Roger!!

It was his parents. Not god
Truly one of the BEST pieces of music ever written, performed, and sung. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. Takes me back to my childhood, discovering prog rock for the first time and getting lost in the music. I could sit and listen to this forever 🤗
A masterpiece.
Always loved Supertramp, even as a kid. One of the BEST BANDS EVER!!!!!!. WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Saw this brilliant band at Wembley arena in 1978. No other band will ever have their talent .Brings back so many memories of being a young boy, headphones on. Those were the days .
MAESTRO!!
Such an awesome song, Roger Hodgson is such an amazing vocalist 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Amazing no other way to describe it. As a keyboard player and musician I have to say this is beyond the beyond ( and this was live)
The album version is still superb though. But this orchestral arrangement is excellent & really well done, all the same. Just came across this on UA-cam now. What a find indeed. Love it!!
Wow! Been listening to their albums since their beginning but never heard this with a full orchestra. Awesome!!! And his vocals are so very strong and true.
roger the greatest hodgson, the tremendest, the genious, the heart and soul of supertramp, fool's overture is a classic,i love even in the quitest moment but the one i love and love is hide in youur shell for the lyric ,lyric of life,so deep, this song make me cry.thanks roger and thanks supertramp.

Ver ver god. Progressive Songs
Always loved listening to supertramp . Had the honor to see them with Larry Gowan opening for them at the metro center in Halifax , nova Scotia
Roger's music is so awesome to us all, we each carry it with us in different ways with diverse meanings, whether its our relationships with individuals or our relationships to the universe or it's creator, I'm convinced he has had a most spiritual event in his early days, I know he knows...ya know.
Music connects us to places in time, events we will never for get or wish never happened, it is life at its BEST not matter what!!!!!!!!!!
It makes me feel so alone in this world, just wanna be with someone when you hear this, someone you grew up with but they all go there own ways.
***** We will meet again in Gods heaven :)
Squire Hobbs contemporâneo surreal.
E transcendental surreal. Beatifull
This music takes me back to my 20's when I was in the service and I spent endless hours driving, crisscrossing the country, reporting to different duty stations, with music like this and Eagles. Jim Morrison, Neil Diamond, Dan Folgelberg, Heart, Supertramp, Genesis, and many others blasting from my car radio.
Such a goose bump inducing EPIC production!!! Roger, band, orchestra, choir, Norbert Fimpel solos, the filming, the multi camera angles, film editor cutting to everyone and everywhere, the audio recording edit (even on compressed UA-cam) , just awesome. Truly one of the few live recording productions that shine. Thank you.
Fool's Overture
History recalls how great the fall can be
While everybody's sleeping, the boats put out to sea
Born on the wings of time
It seemed the answers were so easy to find
"Too late", the prophets cry
The island's sinking, let's take to the sky
Called the man a fool, striped him of his pride
Everyone was laughing up until the day he died
And though the wound went deep
Still he's calling us out of our sleep
My friends, we're not alone
He waits in silence to lead us all home
So tell me that you find it hard to grow
Well I know, I know, I know
And you tell me that you've many seeds to sow
Well I know, I know, I know
Can you hear what I'm saying
Can you see the parts that I'm playing
"Holy Man, Rocker Man, Come on Queenie
Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie"
So you found your solution
What will be your last contribution?
"Live it up, rip it up, why so lazy?
Give it out, dish it out, let's go crazy
Yeah!
Until the end of times...
Time of falkland war

Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a prime example of excellence. Granted as a fan and collector of all things Progressive Rock past and present, I never really accept Supertramp into that fold, I felt they were a little too AOR friendly to be included in the snobby world of prog rock, So I never really cared too much for them. But this track is PURE brilliance 100% brilliance. One of the best works of the 1970's..
bunnyhead71 If you like true progressive, at least check out THEO on Facebook (DOZENS of 4 and 5-star reviews GLOBALLY) Progressive for these times, I guarantee it!
So beautifull.. It can makes you cry : )

For a reason I can't quite explain the little French lady playing the flute at the beginning of this totally steals my heart away....
Absolutamente maravilloso

The music of Supertramp is magic and excellent thanks Roger forever 😅

Supertramp nunca defrauda!! Una joya
Ace live performance with this great orchestra! Wish I had been there. . .
Beatiful
I jog around my neighborhood late at night to this music.
your the one that has been peeking in my windows. you are sick. get help now.
your crab legs an not totally accurate, there is no way they could be perfectly symmetrical. So u R a liar. Sooo sad.
accurate has more than one meaning it is not just a statistic of measurements... it can be used to describe other things not perfect...for instance,,,,,,, a second definition of accurate is as stated in oxford dictionaries is { capable of reaching the intended target ] there for if their crab legs can make it to the finish line or intended target they are still accurate,,,,, so if your going to define accurate you should first consulate a dictionary to get your definition of accurate correct or accurate,,, just to set the definition of accurate correct or accurate....LOL
AccurateCrabLegs I do the same ;) I also find one of The best bands to listen while your in a long car trip.
I think about jogging around my neighbourhood to this music...but I cant jog, so I dont.
Impresionante
Maravilhoso.
This was in Belgium Antwerpen, night of the proms. Location sportpaleis. More stars where playing there with this great orchestra and magical conductor Robert Groslot. John Miller (RIP) and now his son is playing on the same location. Have seen Joe Cocker there for 12 times, magical.

Admirative....forever! 😍
Up with Bohemian Rhapsody as a work of art.
Just the class anlog with Led Zeppling
Now THIS is how I imagined rock and classical blend into something magical
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here….
Such a masterpiece! Love, love, love it.
I know I must be getting old when I saw things like...I miss the music of the 1970-1980 period. This was a period of time when putting together a complete album was a work of art. So many great song writers who cared about putting out great work. Today’s music is void of life and feeling...prepackaged crap and audiences gobble it up.
Pure genius, we don’t have that talent anymore, just same computerized arrangement of voices and rhythm .
This is God for me. Thank you.
Que imponente esta obra maestra
