He explained in a podcast (i cant remember which). Think of mk x, with new characters and the children of the og characters. It would've focused on liu kangs son (liu kang dead) learning about his father the mortal kombat tournament, and reiko would've been the new shao kahn taking his place.
Those clips from the reactions to the game are exactly why I never give much attention to "early reaction" hype you see floating around online for big releases. Compare those reactions to how everyone feels about MK4 now(or even a few years after it's release)...
Fun fact: They took Ricardo Milos out of the game because he would have been overpowered. They didn't want to disrespect him in any way by nerfing his character, so they left him out.
The 2nd best MK game in my opinion out of the classics, following MKII. The fatalities are serious like MKII, the stages are fantastic, the voice overs are hilarious, and the combat feels so damn fast, fluid, and good!
I wish they would bring back MK to the arcades. I still remember as a kid Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat 4 were always popular at the arcades . MK 9 and MK X would've been awesome to play on an arcade system 😍😍😍!
Had a blast playing this when the tour came through North Charelston SC at Frankies Fun Park, got to play early and tell everyone about it. Good times.
I was playing hours and hours in this game - classic. I remember that it was 1.addictive, 2.entertaining - other game was tekken 3. Those are 2 classic games for me and my childhood.
I remember when it was released on PlayStation, Back in 1998 I was 14 years old and I couldn't wait to run the Blockbuster to get a copy, played it non-stop I told my dad bought it for me, my own copy. I loved trying to find the secret menu That was featured in one of the PlayStation magazines at the time, good times...
is easy now say that the game weren't so good... but at the time these feelings in the video were genuine... of course that games such as Tekken 3 were far better... but people and kids like myself at the time really enjoyed MK4... the best MK songs came from this game too... has quite flaws due the engine limitations but looking now the MK XL (MK4 rebooted) these flaws still remain added now to lack of creativity...
"of course games such as tekken 3 were far better" thats your opinion. back in the day i had much more fun playing mk4 on my n64 than tekken 3 on my psx
Although MK Trilogy is my all time favorite version MK4 for Playstation was a really great game for it's time and still fun to play now. For 1998 the design and gameplay were cutting edge.
90's was a blast, you know, watch graphics evolving and reaching out unbelievable levels of craziness, I still don't like mk4, I was hyped at that time but anyway it's good but not awesome....damn I feel like my grand
The Midway CEO bits felt like some crazy shit was about to unfold, like in the Devolver's E3 conferences or something like that xD Really cool video, loved the people, their looks, their enthusiasm...
In the '90s, Midway was making and releasing Mortal Kombat games and Michael Jordan was winning NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls. Everything was cool.
Man I remember when I first seen my boy Lord Fujin I was like who is this guy doing all these crazy ass Wind moves he's too sick my #1 fighter hope Ed bring my boy back in MK11...Fujin vs Raiden battle of the gods.
I love Mortal Kombat 4. I love the fact all the combos were shared between characters but it was also pretty crappy because the only difference between them were their appearances and special moves. It wasnt a very advanced MK title they basically used 3d models instead of photorealistic sprites and dumbed down the combo system. Its accessible though and that's what drew me to MK from the beginning.
Wtf, why everyone hating on this game? This was the first computer game what i played on, i remember Raiden was my favorite character and if somebody made fatality on him i cried lmao, this game is so close to my heart. And don't compare with the mkx and 9, cuz more than ten years the different between the games. Let's be honest, wich game was good before 2000? Compare to 2018 lol
I don't think the hate has to do with the game being bad. But that we are in an era which remembers old 3d as bad, as oppossed as when 3d was the future. Anyways: late 2d aged well, early 3d not: obviously because we now have better 3d, more realistic and with many more options.
I'm happy to see so many MK4 lovers in the comments. Although I believe MKX and 9 are peak MK, and the original trilogy is a true treasure, MK4 truly got me into the franchise back in the day. Graphics were not the best, but still impressed me. Music was AWESOME! It never reached that height of craziness and memorable sound. And, man, let's remember this is STILL the only MK with true FMV endings for each character. Sad Gold never got a PC release! Also: Do you remember bighead mode and all those other fun secrets?
I played a lot of MK4 back when i was in the school. We with friends were going to computer club every time after school, and we played MK4 until that club closes. And yes it was after i played 2D MK games. For now i liked every MK game that i played. From MK1 to MK9, except MK Special Forces, Mythologies, Shaolin Monks, Vs DC and MKX. Cause i didn't played Shaolin Monks, vs DC and MKX yet, and Special Forces with Mythologies are broken af.
MK 1 & 2 best mk games ever. From there everything else you can see on the graphics is $$$. The love and dedication is remarkable on the first 2 games. You can literally see it and feel it when you play them.
My favorite were mk1 and 2 but I like 2 the best I only like them on sega because of the music and I grew up on them 3 was too fast paced they should have made mk3 but with 2 format and changed only a few things to it
it was summer 97, kindergarten, i was picked up early from school in favor of going to pharohs lost kingdom, that theme park in red lands California, the entrance had an epic arcade, what was the first game i saw, mk4, it was a very fuck yea time, i picked scorpion, got beat by reiko and he did that shuriken fatality, great times
I wish that John Tobias would remaster all Mortal Kombat games and fix their errors as well as he could convert the ones of PlayStation to PC versions.
I wish John Tobias was still with the team. You can tell he really cared about the story. Who knows what could have happened if he stayed.
He explained in a podcast (i cant remember which). Think of mk x, with new characters and the children of the og characters. It would've focused on liu kangs son (liu kang dead) learning about his father the mortal kombat tournament, and reiko would've been the new shao kahn taking his place.

The funniest MK game because of the gibberish and screams😂

Mortal Kombat 4 was awesome, I bashed the shit out of it on the PC back in the days. Those were some great times
i agree - it didn't age well, and graphics wasn't so impressive as the first parts - but it was fun to play anyway.
