Totally agree. I love the dark atmosphere of MK2 especially. MK3 had a dark atmosphere with a mix of an urban vibe.

@@MikeDixieWrecked I guess they brought that (cheap Ai) from the arcade versions, they had to make that way so more tokens would be needed to beat the game. I remember my uppercup going through the enemy just to have me get punched XD

They really created a Legend! Awesome fight scenes, history, soundtracks and more! There's soul and hard work in this game.

Dan Pesina was so influential for the choreography in 1 and 2, not to mention being the original ninjas and the absolute best Johnny Cage. Top bloke
he also came up with many ideas for the action poses including the air kicks by using steps or a stool to help the actors pose

MK 2 was a way better than MK 3.
Music, costume design, titles, backgrounds, atmosphere, characters were great.
And not only that but the animations on the fatalities were more realistic

they were mocap actors, or in the case of women fitness trainers, not regular actors, Kerry Hoskins (MK3 sonia) did have a brief acting career but that´s it...

This stuff is golden. All of those moves are nostalgic. Also didnt think these guys could pull the high roundhouse kicks and jumps. Sweet.
This game was beyond epic when it was released into arcades, and even more so when it was released to the consoles!
Havnt seen any capture footage for 2! This is amazing! Hopefully more footage is released of the other actors.

They were but it was canceled. There were leaked ScreenShots of characters being re played by real people. It was called Mortal Kombat HD KOLLECTION (MK1,2 and Ultimate MK3)

El Shang Tsung del MKII era el mejor personaje. Prácticamente podías jugar con todos los personajes, si aprendías a jugar bien con él.
En su tiempo en las maquinitas casi todos lo elegían, prácticamente todos los fatalities, friendships y babalities incluyendo movimientos de todos estaban en un solo personaje y había mucha libertad para elegir qué hacer. Por eso tanta popularidad con él.
Nathan Hale pero no podías hacer babalities ni friendships si el truco de transformarse en un personaje incluía los botones de combo

Terence Granchester its always been my favorite too, mk3 look is okay but the 3D era Tsung just made him look too bulky. I wish the MK2 look had an option to remove his hat so you could see his hair but it looks good on him

@@sc30002001 they wanted them to sign away their rights to their images. They never payed any of the actors what they were promised in the first place. Originally the deal was for 250 cabinets (Arcade units) and the best thing for the game was when it got banned due to the blood and violence. Midway was making hand over fist back in 92 yet they never really paid their talent anything. Look at when they "killed" certain fan favorite characters and when they tried to go to CGI?

He was supposed to be the main villain of Drunken Master 2, but Jackie Chan was not satisfied with his martial arts skills, so in the middle of production they added the character played by Jackie Chan's personal bodyguard Ken Lo to play the new main bad guy.

Injustice 2. I can't believe, but after so many years, the comeback is real. Boon created so many games and more than half of them is a good fighting game
Arcades are still relevant to this day which I'm very happy about. Went to a arcade joint in Miami and I'd played the crap outta of MK2, I won at least three fights before the A.Is ruined it. Lol

If you don’t have an arcade, i suggest in getting a joystick controller which gives that old school feel 🕹
One of the genius things they did was make these games with a lot of secrets and rumors. It was a good way to keep people feeding quarters into the arcade machines. There was no intetnet so the rumors made it even cooler.

I am so thankful for Ready Player 1 and The checker bar here in Detroit. They have all MK1-3 Arcades here and they're still amazing to this day.
My year worth of allowance went this this game back in 94 for my Sega Genesis. I was about 14 years old then and it was totally worth it lol.

As a huge fan of MK I f'ing love this! The Shang Tsung footage is so cool, the Johnny Cage and Kano Mk1 footage is also on UA-cam somewhere but its not as good quality as this.

Even if they couldn't act it would still be fun because dang near all of them was in WMAC Masters and that was basically Mortal Kombat or WarGods without the violence

fun fact: digital camera wasn't yet available to the public yet, so they had photos developed than scanned back to digital form.
hithummah fun fact: they used video cameras which fed the data directly into computers in real time. There were no photographs to develop.

Of the first three games, Mk2 was the darkest. The music was dark especially the the slime or acid stage and the fatality theme.

I wonder why they stopped using actors for the characters. Seems like they have the same few map cap people playing both men and women in the modern games

MK2 holds the distinction as one of the best Videogame sequels of all time, it perfectly expands the lore of its universe and has endured time and competition to become the king of fighting games.
P.S. It's my favorite among the original trilogy.

Imagine how good a game with this style would look using modern graphics, 4k, 60+ fps, etc! As good as Mortal Kombat 9 and X look, I think they lost some of the charm of digitized actors.

Those were the days. When arcades existed. I mean, it's great to be able to play in the comfort of your own home but it was different in those days.

The writing on Cage’s pants (presumably a potential sponsorship deal) was airbrushed our EXCEPT for when you do Shang’s soul steal fatality on him on the arcade version. Then the writing reappears back on his pants.
