  • Republican Attorneys general in multiple states announce agonizing lawsuits against Biden administration over new rules for background checks at gun shows. Francesca Fiorentini and Yasmin Khan break it down on The Damage Report.

26 Republican attorneys general sue to block Biden rule requiring background checks at gun shows - apnews.com/article/biden-gun-...
"LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Twenty-six Republican attorneys general filed lawsuits Wednesday challenging a new Biden administration rule requiring firearms dealers across the United States to run background checks on buyers at gun shows and other places outside brick-and-mortar stores.
The lawsuits filed in federal court in Arkansas, Florida and Texas are seeking to block enforcement of the rule announced last month, which aims to close a loophole that has allowed tens of thousands of guns to be sold every year by unlicensed dealers who do not perform background checks to ensure the potential buyer is not legally prohibited from having a firearm.
The lawsuit argues the new rule violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and that Democratic President Joe Biden doesn’t have the authority to implement it."

A lot of states require background checks already Colorado where I live you have to have a background check and even to private sell now. I’m a gun owner and agree with background checks for anyone buying a gun in any state and anytime. I’m tired of a majority of us gun owners that want sensible gun control laws but a small part of the gun community thinks any law is treading on them and it’s absolutely crazy how that small minority can stop progress

Last year when my son attended PROM… it was held at the local Fairgrounds/Expo Center. They had a BIG billboard at each entrance, announcing 2 separate high school proms, and a HUGE 3 Day Gun Show! It made the kids uncomfortable… even in a gun culture state, the teenagers felt that it was mocking them. One girl said “it’s like you can’t get away from it, it’s bad enough that we go to school everyday with fear, then we go to prom… and here’s your sign! You are never safe”! I didn’t drop them and come back… I stayed in the parking lot “just in case”!

    “…to keep and bear arms.”
To Keep means “to retain ownership of. To Bear means “to display or exhibit.” Nowhere in the 2nd amendment does it say that people have a right to easily ACQUIRE or PURCHASE guns. If the 2nd amendment was meant to ensure that individual citizens could obtain firearms without any restrictions, regulations, oversight, or impediments, the framers easily could’ve written, “…the right of the people to keep, bear, and acquire firearms shall not be infringed.”
But they didn’t write that. They omitted that one, little word… and it’s a good thing too, because it is insane to believe that everyone has an absolute right to effortlessly acquire a portable, handheld execution device that can be instantly activated with the twitch of a finger.

So when he was in a sport after school, if there was an emergency could contact us and we had to take his phone away because he got himself grounded and I was so uncomfortable and in the back of my brain, I was thinking what if there's a shooter I want him to have access to his Cell phone. Its crazy! I don't remember this being such a big issue In our schools, we even had metal detectors at like dances at my high school. But we still never had anyone actually shoot up the place It was more for knives and things like that. I just don't remember it being this bad. And it's not like these students didn't have guns. They definitely did, but you didnt bring them to school thats fkd up. What changed? Were the laws tighter in the 90s? Legit question. Shootings happened all the time just not in school

President Obama did a gun tracing operation and determined that a massive amount of American guns were being funneled into Mexico. This was determined after Mexican authorities obtained guns left at several violent multi murder scenes at cartel incidents. The Republican Party was up in arms about the information. Instead of taking the information that American guns were being funneled into Mexican cartels, Republicans used the information to blame Obama for allowing guns to flow into Mexico. Not one Republican went public to try to curb the gun flow to Mexico and there was never any legislation about stopping the flow of guns into Mexico by Republicans.
Makes one wonder why a visceral reaction against ab investigation of guns flowing from the USA into Mexico met such strong condemnation and stonewalling by Republicans.

Abraham Lincolns said. After the civil war ended. “Let them (Southerners) keep their guns. To shoot their crows”.
So they can PROTECT their farming livelihood.
WHO STIPULATES WHAT CRIMES MAKE SOMEONE INELIGIBLE TO BUY A GUN?
If a person served their sentence, and paid back their debt to society. Then they should should have equal rights to own a gun. And vote. Like every other citizen. After they do their time, paid their fines, and or were off parole. They are citizens, and have to pay taxes too.

The NRA is in recovery mode right now as other groups are taking up the slack.

Everyone claims to be a responsible gun owner. So the only way to find out whether or not someone is is to ask them this question.
Do you believe we need stronger nationwide universal background checks to buy a gun?
The only people who answer that question with no. Are the people who can not pass a background check in order to buy a gun and, therefore, should not own a gun. It's really that simple.

It's a tuff issue. In arctic Alaska people hunt for food. No roads. Mail may be stuck due to weather for a week. Only one dry goods store in the village.
Arctic Alaska depend on hunting to feed their families. We also are Americans but we don't have the abundance that the lower 48 states have. We are 1,200 miles from Anchorage, 700 miles from Fairbanks.
I believe we need more much gun control but I worry we American Eskimo will end up suffering.
No body uses automatic guns for hunting anyways.

That's .1 of the population on the public comment. I support the right to bear arms, but I also support background checks and training/certifications for new applicants. Indiana has held the loosest gun laws east of the Mississippi but most of the gunshows I've been to actively did background checks for firearms purchases. I was impressed by this at my first of a dozen because it was a few months after someone discharged a firearm at a show on the west side of the state. A lot of firearms used in Chicago are bought here from gun stores. Can't say how many come from gun shows but the 300 some shootings that came from the firearms that were sold without screening could have come from outside private transactions not specifically gun shows.

Looking from the outside this seems so out of touch when you look at deaths caused by guns in the USA. It seems that a life of an innocent person is least important than the right for some individual to have a gun. Surely there has to be in place standards or tests a person must obtain before getting a license to carry a gun, otherwise how will things change.
