Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) responded Sunday to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) criticism of his comments mocking the Jerry Springer-like chaos during a House hearing last week, where the progressive House member ripped Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Fetterman in a social media post said he wanted to apologize to the “Jerry Springer Show” over the insult-laden hearing, saying it had effectively hit a new low.
Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Fetterman, who in recent weeks has also battled progressives over Israel’s war in Gaza, saying her policy was to stand up to bullies for her colleagues.
“I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a ‘both sides’ issue,” Ocasio-Cortez said Friday on the social platform X.
“But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one. And to the women of Pennsylvania: I’d stand up for you too. Enjoy your Friday.”
Fetterman said her criticism was absurd.
“That’s absurd. I was just simply responding to the kind of chaos and everything that Representative Greene started as well,” Fetterman told co-host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union” when asked to respond to Ocasio-Cortez’s criticism of him.
“And if everyone on the committee was proud of what they’ve produced, they’re entitled to their opinion. Or if they feel that this is the kind of video that you want to send to a classroom of eighth grade civics kind of students across America, again, that’s their choice,” he added.

I followed Fetterman's progress as an underdog candidate for the Senate and I enjoyed the fight in the fellow when faced with that phony political dilettante Oz and the huge money and machine behind him. But he's been in the Senate for a while now, and he hasn't done much that is admirable. I do love an underdog, but if all he can do is poop on the carpet, I would gladly vote him out.
Why did he feel the need to say anything? AOC was trying very hard to make sure to stay within the committee rules, but a lot of people were yelling. What was she supposed to do? Obviously, she was also quite upset that her colleague was mocked about her personal appearance. Now if Fetterman wanted to elaborate on his comment and acknowledge that AOC was doing her best to be heard and understood by a Chairman with a hearing problem, then his comment would have been accurate and not masogynistic.
Why did AOC open her jackass mouth in the first place ? It wasn't her fight. She needs to just STFU

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez IS legally old enough to run for the Presidency now in 2024. The age limit is 35, for when they are sworn in. AOC was born in October 1989, so she will be 35 come January 2025 Inauguration Day! ---- BUT she would obviously not run against a sitting Democratic President. That would be political "suicide"! And ruin her chances moving forward.

Fetterman gave me the impression he is a younger version of Bernie Sanders! WTF happened to him?
3 possibilities:
1) He got offered a lot of money to flip on his values, and he agreed.
Or
2) He's being blackmailed and he's terrified of whatever it is they have on him, so he's flipping his values.
Or
3) He lied from the beginning about his values, and did an excellent job of decieving us. Including me. I was very supportive of his campaign, and SO excited when he beat Oz.
Now, I'm REALLY dissapointed. I'd like to think it's blackmail, because at least that's somewhat understandable. He does seem like the type of person who'd be susceptible to that. I could see him caving out of fear of something he's ashamed of or afraid of coming out.
But I don't know. I will say though, that he is still far better than allowing an actual Republican an additional Senate seat. I'd rather a Manchin or Sinema causing the party headaches, but still holding the majority, than Republicans re-gaining the majority with a true conservative taking the seat.
I know it hurts what he's done, but he IS better than a true Republican.

@@arautus If he at least remains socially progressive, that IS a blessing in and of itself. Regardless, I'm very disturbed by his flip. I honestly had thought highly of him as a person. He seemed like a really decent human during the campaign, and I'm usually very good at seeing through their facades, despite me being on the spectrum. Time will tell.

To Fettermans point about sending the video to 8th graders... yes! Send it to them. 8th graders have to deal with bullies all the time. Verbal and physical abuse. And because our educational system is so hung up on zero tolerance, any type of push back by the victim of bullying is punished far more often and more severely than the bullying itself. So showing them how to deal with this type of thing using the system they exist in would be a brilliant way of helping them!
