The high price of child care has long been a burden for most families, rivaling the cost of college in many states and forcing families to make difficult decisions and trade-offs.1 However, this high price often fails to account for the actual costs that child care providers incur, and rarely, if ever, covers the “true” cost of care-that is, the cost to provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate, safe, and reliable child care staffed by a professionally compensated workforce.
In 2018, the Center for American Progress developed an interactive cost estimation tool to illustrate the economics of child care, estimate the true cost of child care in each state, and better understand why high-quality child care is out of reach for many families.2 CAP is now releasing a refreshed version of this interactive, incorporating up-to-date data, adding several U.S. territories, and including the ability to estimate the cost of care in a family child care home setting.3 The updated interactive allows users to calculate the monthly cost of licensed child care at different ages and in different settings for each state or territory. In addition, as with the original tool, users can modify seven elements of the child care program-such as compensation levels and adult-child ratios-to better understand the impact of these variables on the cost of care.

oh, no, musk has paid out hundreds of millions in child support and divorce settlements on his spawn. he just never talks to them, or sees them, or acknowledges their existence, wants, or needs ...
I did not know that being born rich automatically qualifies you as a genius.
Forget the born child.....while preggers, there are doctor appointments, ultrasounds, special diets and special vitamins.
When ready to give birth, if you have no car, an ambulance costs a fortune. Then there's the hospital bill of many thousands.
There's the new crib, clothes, (the mom's as well as the baby's) diapers, baby food, bassinets, strollers, powders, lotions, post-natal care and even an emotional toll.
And if the mom is not an executive with a great health plan, there is a loss of income during this time.
And don't forget post natal care: checking the baby every so often for colds, ear infections, coughs, rashes & more. They all get checked out.
So unless Musk is going to cover your costs, having a baby is not free.

Last I checked, it costs money for each prenatal appointment to make sure your pregnancy is going well over the 9 months, costs money for ultrasounds to check on the baby's growth, costs money to deliver the baby in the hospital, possibly costs money for treatment if you have complications. And we're not even getting into costs for diapers and all the other multitude of accessories needed to care for a baby properly, or childcare if you WORK. My goodness. It's like Donnie saying you need ID to buy bread!
I have a 13 YO, 11 YO, a 20 month old and a baby on the way. Childcare alone for 2 kids can cost $30k a year.

@@mercy3219 it’s not a drug with very long lasting effects if taken once. I will say it was very intense. A very dissociated feeling. I had to have my knee tapped so this had the intended effect of being quick, very intense and wearing off after about 10 minutes. However if you are using that every day, given my experience just having it one time, I could see that very easily affecting a person’s judgement if used over an extended period of time. Let’s just say I won’t be buying a Tesla or getting into any SpaceX rocket ships anytime soon but that’s not the only reason.

Last I checked raising one child from birth to age 18 costs about two million dollars. Food, clothes, education, birthdays, holidays, MEDICAL CARE, hobbies, erc. Raising children is expensive thats why many famlies are on some kind of assistance, and we all know every dollar helps.

That is 100% false. Kids need housing, food, clothes, probably daycare, medications, health care, transportation, extracurricular/ entertainment activities. . None of that is cheap for most parents. Then there is school, school trips (if lucky) and post secondary/ trade school. 🤯

Try being a single mom feeding your 13-year-old son without food stamps! Thank God I got them again! my first child was a girl so I did not experience this… Kids aren’t expensive. That’s hilarious I literally had to beg and borrow my sons way into football last fall. He’s old enough that he doesn’t need childcare now but anyone who works full-time and has to pay for that it costs as much as rent!

I had two kids and it was expensive. I worked my butt off two jobs and went to school for another job. Don’t tell me kids saying that expensive. You gotta buy them clothes. I read a quote once, a LONG time ago, but has stuck with me for decades: “Going back to a place that hasn’t changed makes you realize how much YOU have.”
I think this applies to people, too. Even if they have changed, it makes you realize how different you are from the person you were at the time in your life they were last in it.
Not saying old friends can’t reconnect, but often people are in our lives for a shared season- when life brings you together with a shared location and experience like school, a job, a sport, a hobby….
Change the location or subtract the context of school or work or whatever, and you grow apart because you have new and different things pulling you in new directions as you grow.

It isn't even free to be pregnant. You need special doctor appointments and tests and supplements and extra food costs. They there are weeks you can't work, so your income reduces. Then you have the expenses of the birth. Then more doctor appointments for mom and baby. Then you have the expenses of a kid.

I have to wonder if the original poster ("Vittorio") has any kids of his own? If he does, I'd love to see how he explains that they're "free" and if he doesn't, maybe he should talk to his parents and ask them how "free" he was for them. I'm single, no kids, and even I know the little things aren't "free." Okay--MAKING them is literally "free" but, after that, unless you plan on living off-the-grid and your lady is willing to undergo "primitive" childbirth, then *maybe* they're free; even then, though, you're basically ignoring that you will eventually have to provide food for the kid and, even the most primitive of cultures (where people lived in small communities), there's SOME "cost" involved (bartering, when you get down to it, involves "cost" to a degree even if there's no actual cash involved).

I have to pay $400 more a month in insurance premiums alone, let alone, food, clothing, school supplies, when my son was younger my wife stayed home to raise him, that's $150K+ in income that we could have had.
