As some of you have pointed out - we misplayed the Curses a bit. The player who cast the curse should get the benefit every time the target player is attacked by any player. Many apologies. This is upsetting to me, mostly because I could have had so much more Gold! -JLK
The Command Zone it's ok man as long as it stayed consistent everyone makes mistakes :)
I had to read each of the curses 3 times before I understood it, too, so I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks they are confusing.
You see mister powers. I LOVE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLDDDD!
The Command Zone will you still take them all out of your decks with that extra effect in mind?
Came here to say this.
You know whats great? rewatching this series in 2020 because I can't remember who wins any of the matches :D
What’s even better is watching what cards are in a certain commander deck and working them into your own lol
Are you me?
Same tho
I do this all the time! The commander cube episode is epic
This is exactly what I’ve been doing. I watched these over a year and a half ago, and now I can watch them again as if it’s new.
Its crazy that 4 years later, edgar markov and ur-dragon are 2 of the best commanders
So Mel is the lead for creating the most broken mechanic in commander. Props to her.. 🙄
the ur dragon precon is like $300… im so glad i bought the kaleidoscope killers secret lair that copy is like $95
Yeah, Eminence really is disgusting lol
I love it!
That guy has super-villain wizard eyebrows. Very fitting deck choice.
😂😂😂😂
2:06 "be the sneaky one" and then proceeds to get cursed and destroyed by the rest of the players.
"I dont have artifact removal, but I have player removal"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Nightwizard I mean, it was a really good line
Spoken like a true black player
The line became a meme in the show, been backtracking to find the original source, glad to rewatch and find it!
Is anyone else giddy by the fact that the way Mel won was by having Edgar lay down his sword after combat and go start a farm in the countryside, which caused Shawn to just kinda...keel over and die?
I agree. One of my favorite game finishes yet. That Mel. She has style.
best ending :)
I'm pretty sure that was the first time anyone has swords-to-plowshares their own creature to win the game.
@@mellowwookiee7533 even better: our 8 player free for all had taken too long so we decided to go around once and determine the winner by lifepoints. I was the last and at the end i tried to path my own commander, gaining 6 life and get no top, but someone COUNTERED MY REMOVAL ON MY OWN GUY! so I came second...

For real
Somewhere out there in the world, there is a seething Kathleen DeVere who is upset that she didn't get invited to play the Cat Deck.
so true.
Gavin Li Ehh... LRR will stream their own Commander game with these decks soon enough, after their move. She'll get her shot then.
It would have been awesome to have her play the cat deck, but most guests on the show (including Shawn and Melissa), already live in the LA area. I don't really think they have a budget for travel. :)
Vampires. Kat is crazy about vamps.
just wait for the Friday nights for commander 2017 I'm sure there will be one
Mel's play at the end was extremely sick 👌
Mel is so much fun! Charming, outgoing, competitive and with a hint of malice. Invite her more often!!
the editing on this is amazing. Love how quick it is, turns what could be an hour and half video into 45 minutes of entertainment!
I'm revisiting this video because I've pull out my Ur-dragon, Edgar, and Arahbo decks and started putting new cards in them. This is the video that got me into commander and got me to buy those decks.
Shawn: plays mirror of the forebears
Josh: I don't know how this card will work, I guess i have to wait and see.
Josh 5 seconds later: I play mirror of the forebears
I have to say, the more I watch this video, the more I appreciate Shawn's presence.
Shawn brought appropriate eyebrows for a wizard deck.
on theme
" You know what sucks ? Chump blocking with a dragon... "
I`ll never get over this xD
Mel is fucking amazing being the lead design of my favorite set of magic.
AND SHE PLAYED EDGAR MY FAV COMMANDER OF THE SET!!!!
It's a shame Wizards lost her to Riot Games.
Don't cuss

Mel: "on board board wipes are such a draaaaag"
Also mel: "bLiNd oBeDiEnCe iS oNe oF mY fAvOriTe cArdS"
Sorry, new player here. Is there a common board wipe combo with blind obedience or something?
@@DODUCKA blind obedience also makes the game drag.
It's funny to think that a boardwipe that slows down EVERYONE in the game is the same thing as slowing down your opponents. It's a very narrow view of the game.
@@DODUCKA blind obedience makes everything you do slower and harder, it's essentially a stax piece, if you know what that is.
I feel like theres an argument to be made in favor of mel's view here. Yes I hate stax, stax are in no way fun to play against. do I run trivial stax pieces, yes everyone has at least one stax piece in one way or another in any deck, be it major or minor. They SLOW the game down. On board wraths and stuff that PREVENT you from playing anything are worse. With stuff like blind obedience, im gonna be mad, but im still gonna get to cast my janky artifacts and creatures, but larry niven's disk says, no one gets to play anything until im gone bc itll be gone when I decide to fuck everything up.
TLDR Stax is stupid, but ill take slow down a turn over prevent until its gone any day
dude, that playmat rollout. *chef finger kiss*
Got it on the first take too!
Ayy, I like your Podcast Commanderin'! (sneaky advertisement is sneaky)
Wow, so what I saw there was...
Cats: Strong early game, but like many aggro decks it needs to take people out fast to get there...which just isn't easy to do in Commander. I'm much more interested in going wide and using equipment in that deck, I prefer the other two commanders. Can't wait to add Amoncats to it too.
Dragons: Exactly what I expected, crazy splashy plays made possible by seriously sweet ramp - seemed like Josh had the perfect opening hand. Shame about all the missed gold. The Utvara Hellkite play was awesome, I am SO happy that card is in the deck.
Wizards: I knew it was a slower deck, but I don't think we really got to see any of its potential here, because everyone else was so aggro so fast with those curses... the others having great ramp into their aggro really didn't help.
Vampires: Surprisingly effective, Sanguine Bond is such a powerful include, and sweet tech with Blind Obedience, insane with that kicker spell. Never seen Swords to Plowshares used as a finisher before :P
what do you think is the strongest dragon or vampire?
I feel like dragons will be consistently stronger, but that does rely on getting a decent opening, with enough ramp and colour fixing. It's probably one of the better decks at catching up if it does fall behind, too.
Vampires does have the potential to be explosive though, if it casts like 3 vampires in a turn, say... But I could imagine it being quite a bit harder for that deck to catch up if it falls behind.
good to know, but I still think these precon decks are severely underpowered compared to the previous 2016 ones
Perhaps, but I think those decks were designed to be stronger. They were the best of what those colour combos could offer. These are designed to be great tribal decks, and for the most part they are, but unless you're playing something like goblins or elves, tribal is just not as competitive a deck. These are designed to be more casual. And after last year's price spikes, that's probably a good thing.
Well said, sir.
Are the cat ears from ultra-pro too?
yep, you can buy them on cardkingdom as well.
Lol

I love the little touches you guys put into your videos. The animations, the little snap shots and the reality show-esque side interviews all make for a really quality show. Great content guys!
The "Wanted Card Frame" transition was really a nice creative choice when the "Bounty Counter" was played. Bravo.
Sean's eyebrows are straight out a cartoon.
I just love the production and editing of your Game Knights series. You all are very entertaining and I'm glad this series has continued and improved along the way. Great job!
I enjoyed this video, one: I saw how much everyone honestly enjoyed playing these decks, and two: this is one of the first videos of watching others play and you get to actually see the mechanics play out, you take the time to explain how the cards work as you play them, and because of that I enjoyed watching this match unfold. You definitely got a subscriber
A Cat, a Wizard, a Dragon, and a Vampire. Is this Magic or a Skyrim play-through?
Seriously gents, the production is getting better and better as these continue to roll out. Congrats on the success and continuous leveling up! :)
This is when the show made a huge difference in production and editing. Glad I got to see it.
This is great. You guys are really doing something right since I don't know how to even play magic and I've been watching you're videos. Love the interviews. You're able to captivate an audience other then the one you intended. Good job.
Best mtg series on UA-cam period!!!
At the end there mel, when you cast edgar he was supposed to get 2 +1+1 counters from opal palace. Glad it didn't mess up the game though. Brava to your win madam.
I think she also only paid 1 mana for commander tax instead of two.
serenade yep she even said "seven mana" even though it should be 8 (for some reason a lot of people mistake Edgar markov for a 5 drop apparently, already saw that happen 3 times in reviews and stuff) but it's not like it would have mattered she still had 2 lands open.
Sean's eyebrows makes him look like he clawed his way out of hell and is also a lawyer
Omg thank you for this. I really wanted to see a play by play like this. Not enough of these.
27:30 that moment when you take a quick peak at what your opponent draw
*quick stare
The vampires deck is definitely the one I'm most excited for. So I'm glad it performed well. I'm gonna try to pick up the wizards deck as well.
I love these gameplays! And Mel makes for an awesome villain! Loved her in your Nicol Bolas gameplay, and I loved her behind the Edgar Markov deck. Please invite her to more of these. XD
love the game play as always! Great job and keep up the phenomenal work! You guys provide the best commander content by far.
Jimmy was right. lol. I was thinking that Josh was going to ice them one by one before he pointed it out.
It's such a shame Shawn never got to do much at all. When Mel took over the game it just became obvious noone would ever be able to stop her.
TY for this episode! After all the spoilers, to see these decks in action is amazing. I couldn't agree more that play-wise, I've never been this excited for a commander release. The plays in this episode were insane and Mel had some awesome tricks.
I really really enjoy these Game Knights and thanks to you guys i'm hoping to get one of the commanders myself to try out! Would buy the set myself but money is a little time for the time being but I made sure that my friends who did purchase the sets did so through your link! Thanks guys
Watching this while I wait for my decks to be delivered. So far so good!
As if I needed any more convincing to buy the Vampires deck...that game was full of SO MUCH COOL STUFF. Winning with Swords to Plowshares + Sanguine Bond?! Accidental boardwipe by cloning Butcher of Malakir?! Massive vampire flavor wins?! TOO MANY DRAGONS?! I have NEVER been this hype about Commander before!
I agree! But, the Butcher of Malakir clone/board wipe thing was not an accident - just sayin :-P
Yall only got one thing truly wrong: these curses are for casting on *_yourself._*
But why?
Cast untap one on yourself, and you'll always have blockers lol. (bad idea but interesting)
@Scythic
If you put it on yourself, it still triggers anytime any opponent attacks the cursed player, which is you. Instead of it only conferring a bonus to the attacking player, you both get the bonus and your opponent leaves themselves open to a counter swing after you have had the opportunity to kill some of their creatures with blocks.
Its great as a deterrent because if they ignore it they just end up feeding into you.
As usual these are such a joy to watch, also Josh works insanely to put it all together, but it turns out so seamless!
This is the first video I've seen from you guys but I knew after seeing this I just had to subscribe!
I was waiting so long for this episode.
Rofl, make sure everyone stays to the end, that was amazing Josh!
Glad you liked :-)
Thank you so much for this episode! I was thinking about to start with Commander since I started playing magic last year. Now I'm sure - commander rocks the board and I have to buy one of those decks. Greetings from germany.
You could say the cats are not kitten around.
Nice pun 👍
YES! A NEW EPISODE OF GAME KNIGHTS! It's like Christmas During summer...
The cat deck would be ridiculous with Ajani, Caller of the Pride
or any ajani in that fact
Sam Wise yeah I bought s box that had like I think three in it so
Metalsnake I think it has an ajani
It doesn't come with any Ajani Planeswalkers, if that is what you are saying.
Midnight Magic No, but his dead brother is in it.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! This is the third episode I watched and I am well and truly hooked. Game Knights rule!!
Great episode, I couldn't believe how good those decks played. Awesome :)
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these. I'm leaning towards wizards, hoping I can make it work better than what was shown in this episode.
I still get so much joy out of the fact Mel secured the win by having Edgar lay down his arms
Most entertaining commander content on youtube. Please don't stop the Game Knights.
Cant tell you how many times I've watched both game knights and extra turns.....love these give me ideas for decks
just wanna say that my friends and I just got more into magic because of these episodes, so thanks 👍👍👍🤘
We absolutely love hearing that!
Shawn Main makes me think of what a Henson muppet would be like if it were a real person. Great guy.
This was one of the most interesting episodes of game knights I've seen in a while. My group are super excited for cm17
I truly enjoy watching you guys. You are super entertaining and witty. Keep up the great work.
Josh's outro just brought my respect for him to a whole new level
Does anyone else want to see them play previous precons out of the box?
Even with the misplays of the curse, I really enjoyed this episode. Thanks again, guys and keep up the good work!
Brought to you by ultra pro. Joking asides, great production value! I love the side commentaries!
38:24 This is absolutely my favorite line of the whole video XD
6:09 43 to 36 6 damage...
yeah, i caught that too lol
She corrects to 37
You noticed that too!
I noticed thay
I saw that
This was really great guys! I like how balanced the decks were it felt the most balanced of game knights and that makes it fun!
Thanks for another amazing show. Always enjoy your content. Keep the good work up👏
this game is so good every five minutes you think one player is going to win, then its the other and everyone seems to have fun!
Wait so what does the wizard deck do lol
MageKirby It's supposed to combo off but it's very janky compared with the other decks.
The cards from the wizard deck are actually bonkers strong if built around them. The main commander just has almost no support from the deck. It's badly prebuilt but the 2 side commanders are sweet.
It wants to be stormy but fails
MageKirby it's every other izzet Grixis combo deck. Looks harmless and durdely until without warning it draws a billion cards and cast a billion spells and wins out of nowhere.
Alex Dattel the wizard deck is borderline awful. i don't hate it but im not going to buy it.
This is the only best magic channel to watch.
Cool episode I had so much fun watching you guys play
Ive been waiting for so long!!!
That guy has the most villainous eyebrows I've ever seen.
I am just getting to watch Command Zone Game Knights. These videos are all great. I notice the rules sometimes are not caught, and that happens in games like this that require a lot of focus. I love that Game Knights will post about things missed in the comments to clarify. I see that the 2nd time Mel cast Edgar (and used Opal palace this time), it was only brought in with 1 counter, she still won, but it should have been 2 counters as this was the second time that Edgar was cast.
Keep up the great show! It is great content to binge during this stay at home order!
This was my first time watching The Command Zone. Didn't know it existed until Jeremy mentioned it on the Split Second over on SCG. So...SO glad I found out about it. That was REALLY enjoyable. This is now on my regular 'to watch' list along with Commander Vs. on SCG and Commander Clash on MTGoldfish. Great show guys.
Thanks! Glad you found us!
Battles of the MELISSAS with de tora vs mel
Did anyone noticed that Shawn main has a T-shirt of the ice king from adventure time?
Watched it again here in 2023 just to see some OG wholesome commander . These commanders definitely made their mark over the years . I still have an Ur Dragon and Edgar deck , and Arahbo in my Rinn and Seri , but I think I'm gonna go back and build the other two now for nostalgia. Think it'll be a blast .
Josh LK that was the dopest board wipe ever 😄 I am truly impressed, sir @ 36:00 min +/- "non-coventional" board wipe 👍
I really enjoyed watching this video. As this is the first video I've watched all the way through, I'm left wondering how they do the player commentary. Do they do it as the game goes, off to the side? They kind of talk about their own plans, so it would be a little odd just doing it right at the table (plus, I don't see cameras everywhere)... Or are they really good actors, and either note the commentary during the game that they want to say for editing later, or someone writes it for them, or do they just remember and say it later? Really good stuff, game seemed really realistic and casual and reminded me of the reason why I got into Commander in the first place.
Good job, guys. I dunno if you ever respond to comments, but I'm actually really curious how you coordinate the commentary in a way that makes it seem like it's happening in the moment.
We play the game as normal but we pause at various points for everyone to take notes. Plus, we have a judge on site who is keeping track of every card and move made in the game. Then - after the game is over - we interview each player going slowly through each play of the game (and consulting our notes, etc) and getting their perspective on it.
This is also a time when we begin to notice patterns or common themes and we do a small amount of staging or scripting. For example, we came up with the idea of Jimmy doing parodies of famous political speeches during the interview because we knew that the political argument was an interesting moment we were likely to highlight.
Cool! Have we ever seen this judge in a video before, i.e. "Hey, I'm Mark, and you never see me but my job is really important!" I really enjoy how you combine Magic playing and, for lack of a better word, theatre, to make a really interesting video. I don't normally watch gameplay videos, but the work you put into these episodes is evident, and I'm sure I'll be spending more time watching future videos of yours.
With the knowledge of how you do the commentary, I'm left surprised at the amount of enthusiasm you guys give a play that happened half an hour ago. As an actor, I can appreciate just how difficult it is to recreate authentic emotion to something that you've already done, let alone having played thousands of previous commander games with the same people. You guys clearly enjoy the game, and you know what you're doing.
Have a nice day! Throughly impressed.
Edit: I also appreciate the editing that goes into the extra stuff, like the popups of the cards and tokens, making the power and toughness bigger when you pump a creature, the bounty counters making the creature "Wanted"... Clearly you have an editor that enjoys their work, if not more than that.
To piggy back on Snaky Dragon, I agree with everything he said about your gameplay videos format, and I love the sound design and editing. The use of colorful sound effects to underline pumping and other game events is really compelling
Neither the judge nor the guys who worked for Wizards bothered to say "Those Curses are being played wrong?"
Snaky Dragon they do the game the sword and then they do the interviews they have a guy there typing everything down so they can react to it
that ice king shirt was dope
My very first game of magic was actually with these exact decks. I had no idea what was happening, but they explained the mechanics as we went. Favorite moment was when I asked “hey, what’s a fate token?” and everyone else freaked out. That was a good boardwipe
Amazing guys!! I loved every second.
Mel's final play was so much fun to watch
does anyone else think mel has a really soothing voice?
This was a lot of fun to watch!
I love the use of swords at the end
Josh: "Do you wanna do a victory pose or anything?"
:Mel hisses:
Josh: "What is that, a cat?"
Mel: "It's a vampire! >:c"
:K
Already preordered the wining deck! Love that tribe.
Zach Harris same here bro, love the cards they put in it lots of them I have wanting for ages
Zach Harris you are awesome I like how u didn't spoil it for ppl reading the comments like me, thanks
Tempted to get all 4.. But Wizards looks so weak.. (But has the coolest side commanders..)
Sheriff K buy the singles on tcg if that's your only pro for buying it
Wizards just looked so weak because it got pounded the whole game. Grixis isn't one of the faster decks and if it gets taken out or beaten on early, there isn't much to come back from (except you actually play with good cards like Cyclonic Rift).
Hey guys. This was a cool show thanx. I was considering getting the vampire deck, but I am now sold. Have a good day :)
Great Show Guys!!! thanks for keeping it Up!!!
Does anyone have an idea who the guy is on the new curse cards because he is very unfortunate? He is on every curse card. Would Mel have any insight on this?
I want to see a Fractured Identity hit an Ink-Treader Nephilim.
As soon as I saw Edgar Markov was a commander, I knew he would bring home the win.. So powerful !
Another great Game Knights - topped off with a Trogdor reference! Fantastic stuff :-) ...and the Ur Dragon comes in the niiiiiight!!
