Bought a redcat gen 7 for my girlfriend and now I am jealous, I love that car, so fun! Crawls very well in a STRAIGHT line. Of coarse there is limitations at this price point but there is up grades you can buy from red cat and probably many more, or just be happy with the very impressive stock performance.
thats not a 250 dollar truck, its actually the 200 dollar "sport" version. If he had bought the 250 dollar one it would be on the same level as the others
@@carguy7476 that, and clearly whoever was driving the gen7 was either hamming it on purpose, or not nearly as good as the other two. Videos make it seem like it has no throttle control...but it does lol. They're running it too low (longer wheelbase needs a little height) and aren't running full dual on the steering. Stock is bad, but way better than this series shows 🤷♂️
Nice comparison .... Modded vs. stock I think the Gen7 did good.........BTW I have gen 7 sport mildly modified. ( I'm alil biased) the right parts let me tell you, the guys I crawl with they're still shocked some of those guys have $1,000 and then some into theirs I'm maybe $430 deep (all available on Amazon) including the truck but my best mods are skyfi 6 ch. (.I use it for all my toys except drones and helis) 4-wheel steering. (Selectable four different ways whenever I want on the controller) and air filled tires not foam. I've done a few competitions but I actually prefer to Freestyle it through rock quarries, construction sites and forest preserves
Exocaged RC steering: shave off the steering stops and put a 1/4 inch spacer under the steering rod on both sides to clear the pumpkin, and gain 18" of steering radius . Bumper: flip the bumper mount and trim the body to raise the bumper and better hug the body. Hangup gone.
I was thinking about buying one of these 3 as my first RC. Seems hard not to think that the Gen 7 is a good place to start at a much better price point. The only thing is I don't care for the sticker lights. Also, I have heard if you do want to mod, not a lot of parts actually fit despite Redcat saying Axial parts will I have seen a video show they don't.
The Gen7 is awesome. Most axial stuff doesn’t fit but the knuckles fit, idler gear in trans fit, driveshafts fit bit that’s about it. You can make them fit with modding but it’s not worth it just buy the right parts.
I agree with 0380adam's comment, "its the tires that make rig, not the name of it". Of course a $1000 rig will be better but it's hard to justify an extra $750 imo.
I saw Tires and DRIVING make the difference..... other things including suspension, gears, motors, body style, tire compound, so many things. But nothing rose to the tune of $750. Good run guys.
The bronco is the trx4, the blue one is the scx10 and the orange is the gen7 sport. I own a gen7. A couple mods later I'm still way under the other two stock prices and way above their stock abilities 🤷♂️ a little wrench time, and research you can save hundreds and still crawl like a "high end" machine.
dude yeah that tree spot is torture on anything that goes through it, especially if you get crossed up. I broke a C hub on the Gen 7 going through it in a comp, luckily I was on my way to the finish line so I finished on 3 wheels.
Wait till you see what a $20 Holmes Hobbies Trail Master 550 does to the RedCat.... Never ever bogs down, never gets hot and has enough top end to be a trail truck as well as a crawler...
I have got to GET ME OUT EARLY OF THESE!!! I looks like tons of fun and I'm sure it's way less hard on the gear not to mention the batteries.? Merry Christmas.
Love the redcat gen 7 its held up well, same spur gear since I've bought it. I wore out the stock motor had a 55 turn in it for a while it was just far to slow an boring after a while, so I put a holmes hobbies 27 turn man it rips now can still crawl slow if I want to, great quality for the price.
The Bronco and the Axial are timid as driven in this video, both are brushless, 3s and can get wild. The Redcat is brushed. All comp trucks must have a timid/tame/docile low end side on the drive to be competitive. But trust me they get wild on the high side. Axial is a Summer Series Champ and the Traxxas has driven 44mph.
Exocaged RC just to let you know the front bracing for the electronics is upside down and if they are turned over it gives 1 “ inch more of clearance and you don’t have to cut anything like some others did in there mods . Please don’t cut anything just turn the 2 support frames over in the front any other questions just ask
I have an ascender but it’s a Class 1 truck with 4.19 tires and a shortened wheelbase. It holds its own very well but not against what’s in this video.
I used the integy aluminum SCX10-2 housings and built them from there, I'm planning on getting the steel versions before too long as the aluminum ones are a bit too light.
Everything gets banged up on rocks, aluminum gouges easier than steel, plastic slides on rocks better than aluminum. So far I'm happy with them but want more weight.
It's hard to believe they're 1k dollar rigs. My completely stock bomber seems to handle terrain very similar to this with little problem. Much less is I put another 500-600 dollars into it
A bomber is a totally different beast, I like the bomber but in competition, a bomber has no chance against the trucks in this video. I added up the TRX and it is closer to $1500. All those small things add up. There is a lot of stuff in these trucks that you can’t see in the video. Castle esc’s, high end motors servos and brass and gears and the list just goes on and on.
Yep, my TRX cost $450. Then I added MFR brass - $140, CC ESC/Mamba X/1406-1900kv slate combo - $210, Promodeler DS470 Servo - $99, Hyrax tires and Gear Head beadlocks - $230. Total cost with mods (so far) $1,129.00
I used google translate and I get this hello how are you .. I loved the truck ... you would give me the page where you want to buy a ,,, hahaha thanks a hug. What exactly are you wanting to buy?
I can’t stand onboard audio, sounds so fake and annoying, if they could make one that sounds like a badass 22r or a legit 350 I wouldn’t hate them so much. I heard one custom made for a monster truck and it was legit, sounded right and was crisp, that one was nice but most of what I hear is crap.
there's a video with a 4x4 that has a custom styrene mid 80's ford pickup body i've only seen the video once but it sounded so cool the way he was driving around in the forest like a real truck would, i've been looking for the vid again for over a month but can't find it. i've heard a couple rock crawlers that sounded pretty good but your right some of them sound pretty cheesy
Totally different trucks. Weight, power everything. The stock redcat tires are actually pretty good and considering the Axial and TRX4 it did amazingly well.
Just my opinion... but not a true comparison... different wheels, tires, motors, servos esc, etc.... a box stock comparison would be better... just bc you show up at the track in a lambo doesnt make you the fastest guy on the track... so money spent has no correlation to performance... and honestly from what i saw... gen 7 didnt hang... vertical ascent, decline, and turning radius all suffered in comparison to the other trucks. Set up a technical course that is a challenging and see how far that gen 7 gets in comparison to the other box stock trucks.. that would be a cool vid...
Yeah those other two are highly modified and that’s the reason for this comparison. The redcat, even though it’s limited and turns worse than a school bus, still completed all but one climb. That’s a win IMO.
How many bodies have you gone through on the trx4?
Oh hey it’s you
I just like the way you drive these trucks. Driving through that tree was incredibly cool. You guys got some skills.
Bought a redcat gen 7 for my girlfriend and now I am jealous, I love that car, so fun! Crawls very well in a STRAIGHT line. Of coarse there is limitations at this price point but there is up grades you can buy from red cat and probably many more, or just be happy with the very impressive stock performance.
gen 7 is the best crawler hands down... it really cheap and upgrades are everywhere.
Not bad for being a $250 truck to a 1k truck... steering mod a must they hardly turn outta the box...😎

Portals are overrated ,ha ha ha! The 250 Dollar Truck do the same job ,sometimes easyer than the TRX4.I love my TRX4!
That's a great Comparison Video, thanks for sharing, thinking Gen7 with a few mods for less than $300.00 might give a challenge on the trails 👍
Yep
those redcat gen 7 and the gen 8 sure seem worth the money looking at your video's of this gen 7.
The only issues I have with the gen7 is the steering radius and the front bumper gets hung up on everything..
But I fixed both issues for $0
yep, we've all been through those issues. Congrats on the $0 fix for it.
Another excellent video Exo, thanks for sharing; keep em' rollin' bro!
Bud I have a LOT more! lol get some popcorn and take a vacation day lol
@@ExocagedRC Hoorah!
It's not about how well they perform, as they all perform well. It's about how long they last and how easy they break.
The redcat transmission is trash
Shared Joe. Thanks for the work involved.

Redcat will need some performance upgrade, maybe a lift?
I love mine but it has the turning radius of a swimming pool. Working on that.
Trim off the steering limits in the stock knuckles and turn up the steering dualrate.
RCs By A Dummy ha a
Addictive as hell to watch....
I had the same problem, I just got Trx4 axles. took a while to get them on a scx10 chassis but it worked with stock parts.
I agree with 0380adam's comment, "its the tires that make rig, not the name of it". Of course a $1000 rig will be better but it's hard to justify an extra $750 imo.
Yeah. It hurt my feelings seeing how well the redcat did against my big buck trucks.
@@ExocagedRC The axial had way better performance than the trx4, I was surprised.
yeah even though I'm trying for a series championship with the TRX, the Axial is the higher level comp truck.
Look at it as more upgraded parts that wont break as easy vs the one on a budget you were trying to get rid of the weak links on the 🚚
They need to all have same wheels if you going to compare. Also that blue truck is awesome.
You have a point on the wheels and yes the blue one in my comp axial truck, it’s my most serious comp build so far.
Tree part was painful lol.Poor trucks.
lol yeah thats a brutal spot
Nice job like the hills and the tree is awesome gen7 holds up good beat one of mine up pretty good this weekend.
going through that tree was brutal, all three redcats made it through.
Nice video, I'm making video with E5HX but my next car will be a Crawler, these videos are brilliant, i like it. :)
I saw Tires and DRIVING make the difference..... other things including suspension, gears, motors, body style, tire compound, so many things. But nothing rose to the tune of $750. Good run guys.
Yep on all that
Throttle control seems to really suck on the Redcat too. Not a lot of actual crawling ability, no turning either. Seems to have plenty of flex though.
Yeah it’s a $200 truck with upgraded pro spools. It holds its own very very well for what it is.
I'm a newbie to this and I'm wanting to get into a crawler but I don't know which one's which in this video
The bronco is the trx4, the blue one is the scx10 and the orange is the gen7 sport. I own a gen7. That tree climbing was impressive
dude yeah that tree spot is torture on anything that goes through it, especially if you get crossed up. I broke a C hub on the Gen 7 going through it in a comp, luckily I was on my way to the finish line so I finished on 3 wheels.
Great video. Considering buying both of my boys a redcat so they can crawl with daddy

These trucks are truelly awesome. Best bang for the buck is the Redcat Gen7

Awesome. I use the 21t trailmaster sport 550 on 3S and it’s awesome.
@@ExocagedRC i was thinking to grab that one also, they are such smooth motors an very cheap.
Well I be dang! Makes me go Hmmmmmm! Great test!😉👍
They are comp trucks???? its hard to say with out knowing more, but for a class 2, it looks a bit timid?
The Bronco and the Axial are timid as driven in this video, both are brushless, 3s and can get wild. The Redcat is brushed. You should try the hsp truck works really well and only 170$ climbs just like your 1k trucks just not as fast
HSP? I see a Jeep looking thing for $175.
Exocaged RC hsp or rgt just a generic brand but a really good starter chassis for climbing truck I have the gray Jeep Land Cruiser looking one
Ok, depending on funds I may get one for a review. Thanks for letting me know.

which vehicle are you referring to? If you're referring to the TRX, thats a skid of sorts to protect the servo winch.
Not bad at all, love the Bronco, but that gen 7 isn't too bad considering
it has a very bad turning radius, i hope redcat will comes up with an upgrade soon
Excellent vid. I think the Axial had took the win that day?
Yeah Axial got that one, plus the video doesn’t show it but it had an easier day over everything we tested on.
Wow, that little red Truck got a Pair!!! Talking trash to a tree lol
Gotta sub this. My bro in cali gonna love it, Peace.
nice video! maybe throw an ascender on the test next time
I have an ascender but it’s a Class 1 truck with 4.19 tires and a shortened wheelbase. It holds its own very well but not against what’s in this video.
Both trx4 and scx10 have klR tires. These tires are awesome on rock but for dirt they’re not the best.
That was the first generation SCX10 correct?
It was the Dodge Truck scx when new. I built it and most recently put all metal scx10-2 axles under it.
Exocaged RC what axles exactly do you have? im going through the same thing with my deadbolt that i have had for 2 years
I used the integy aluminum SCX10-2 housings and built them from there, I'm planning on getting the steel versions before too long as the aluminum ones are a bit too light.
Exocaged RC how are the build quality on the integy axles do they get banged up easy on rocks ?
Everything gets banged up on rocks, aluminum gouges easier than steel, plastic slides on rocks better than aluminum. So far I'm happy with them but want more weight.
What wheels are on that bronco
These rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162590529804
Ha ha Gen 7 NICE! I put the mod video up that you did to your truck.
which one?
Is the F-250 the SCX10? If so what motor and esc are you running?
Yeah that’s the scx truck. It has a Castle MMP esc and a Tekin ROC 3100kv motor on 3S.
It’s crazy that people pay $1000 for a toy. I see a $300 truck and I’m still like nope! Lol
Add some wheel weight too
The only place the Redcat seems to suffer is turning radius. Man it looks horrible.
It's hard to believe they're 1k dollar rigs. My completely stock bomber seems to handle terrain very similar to this with little problem. Much less is I put another 500-600 dollars into it

Axial was using wheel speed to cruise past everything. Redcat needs better tires.
Totally different trucks. Weight, power everything. The stock redcat tires are actually pretty good and considering the Axial and TRX4 it did amazingly well.
Go axial!!!
should only use 1 driver whoever drove the 2nd truck took a better path with his angle and that is why he made it and the others didn't
same driver was driving the blue/silver and red/white truck, different driver was driving the redcat.
That gen 7 would prolly perform better if the driver did t suck
Tires did not seem appropriate for dirt testing...Nullifies any comparison IMO.
