I decided to see just how good the Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 21t 550 size motor is, its really awesome!!! Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 21t 550 holmeshobbies....

Go Holmes Hobbies, I think we all knew this was a no-brainer. Holmes Hobbies have really stepped up their game in waterproofing their ESC's & motors brushed and brushless. I like seeing the test between two different products with the same truck , driver and conditions👍👍
Just wanted to say thanks for the video I watched it them ordered one for my gen7 . Got it installed this weekend band the difference was unbelievable it's like a completely different truck quieter smoother more torque im really glad I found this UA-cam channel lol
In my tire tests the Hyrax does really good. You could also get the Austar Hyrax Knockoffs with wheels for around $40. Check my videos for that comparison. I tested the really Hyrax vs them.
Wow that holmes has power! you can tell on the wood and you can tell by servo slap to get the stock motor to pull! Great Video! Can't wait for other motor tests!
I've switched to a Holmes 550 21t just recently in my FTX Mauler. It came with a 20t 540 motor which was gutless. The Trailmaster 21t 550 produces gobs of torque on 3s, even at low RPM. Loving these comparison videos you're doing. Keep them coming
yeah this could be the very best $20 motor on the market. I have a LOT more comparison videos on the schedule, servos, motors, batteries etc so stay tuned
This is one of the few USA products i can get in the UK cheaply but i'm a fan of it for sure for the price. Those GoolRC / Boldclash brushed motors might be worth a try in a comparison vid as well. Cheap chinese rebuidibles via Ebay. Same with those PowerHD 20kg servos. All cheap stuff that performs well for the price but that cheapness puts a lot of people off.
Ohhh i've been subbed for a while now mate. Always awesome videos and hardly anyway else is doing any comparison vids out there. I hope Mr Holmes sees this video and sends you some freebies
yeah but I think its more than just 3 more turns, better magnets, better build quality and a front bearing, it ran so good I'm tempted to buy a traxxas 21tr motor and test them against each other in the trx.
My Red cat Gen 7 has a stock motor and it doesn’t Bog down like the video says, it climbs up almost anything broke a few other parts but the motor strong
ALL I've run in my Rigs are Holmes Hobbies Products!! Small Company, BIG Product! If you're not sure what you think you should get, you're able to talk to John Holmes HIMSELF. He is the recognized absolute GURU when it comes to RC Electronics! And such a down home, friendly guy. He BUILT me the BEST Motor I've ever owned!!! He recommended a THIRTY TURN for my Wraith... I was dumfounded. After some back and forth, he said "try it. No Risk. If you don't like it, tell me and I'll PAY for return shipping"!!! 😱 He built me a balanced, *Hand Wound* Motor (NOT any different from what YOU can go to his site, and pay about $50 for)!! I didn't like it... I LOVED it!!! I wanted Torque and reserve Wheelspeed. Well, this Motor had SO MUCH TORQUE, that I was able to gear her down, to get more top speed, *without* sacrificing low end grunt! It's been in for about 2 years. I've cleaned the Comm 6 times, and replaced 3 sets of brushes and Springs. That's a LOT of Durability for ANY Brushed Motor!! I'd recommend them to anyone!
I got a pre-used Cherokee kit coming and no electronics included...will this trailmaster sport do the job right? I have HW 1080 esc might be perfect partner?
Yeah you have a point. I am getting a Traxxas 21t r motor for the TRX4 to do the same test. As for the Gen7, the Holmes motor is just superior in every way, even if I had a new redcat motor, the result would be the same. On the other side of the coin you could say the redcat motor was thoroughly broken in and the Holmes wasn’t. LoL yeah yeah I know I’m stretching for that one. Either way I have one comp left that I have to use the stock motor in and after that comp the Holmes goes in permanently.
Exocaged RC i have a traxxas titan 12t for my gen7 i ran it for 15 min n pulled it. I didn't like it ast all. I put a rc4wd 20t in my everest 10 and love it.
Hey now I know this is a motor test and that Trailmaster is boss no surprise there! However I noticed your Gen7 seemed to be placed perfectly. When it comes stock it doesn't sit that way. It seems off ya know? Did you modify anything?
We done our best to follow the same lines and some of the placement could have been my editing because I had to say what motor was in there, then he was to wait 3 seconds before driving but that didn’t happen every time. One thing about the motors is he wasn’t able to drive the truck the same because the motors were very different. He was able to hold full throttle with the stock motor but had to let off with the Holmes due to its increase in power. We had many takes due to the Holmes power literally pushing the truck off the intended path. Yeah the Holmes is now the permanent motor for my Gen7.
Exocaged RC Wow is see what your saying though ya know I didn't even realize until now that the Trailmaster was a 550 indeed this I understand now thanks man👍
I was running my gen 7 today and I think I stripped spur gear. It grabs all the way around and hits on spot and then it just slips. I tried to tighten the mesh and it drove fine but was very loud. Wats your opinion. Thanks love the videos
Loosen the motor screws till it is moveable and slide a small piece of printer paper between the spur and pinion gears and squeeze it softly till it squishes the paper a bit then snugup the motor screws then roll the spur until the paper spits out and see if that helps align the gear mesh for ya.... cheers
@@angryyank it had stripped in just one spot and I flipped the spur over and it drove fine till my new one came in. I was a newbie well still am. I know more about gear meshing now. But thanks for the info man still learning every day

whats your budget? Castle Mamba X with a 2850kv motor is around $200, you could put a Castle Sidewinder 4 in with a Tenshock 2400kv on 3S and be ok. You could get a castle mamba x , holmes trailmaster and a 4S.

I’ve seen too many of those junk RC4WD motors fail. I’d rather run a traxxas 21t Titan than an RC4wd motor. For me, when it comes to brushed, Holmes is the only way to go.
no one comps them where I run because of reliability issues besides most of us run castle brushless, the new guys usually show up with cheap motors and almost never finish as they just aren't durable. At the USTE this year we had two brand new RC4wd Marlin crawlers and we were running them on a very mild course with no rocks or anything difficult at all and one had motor failure in about 6 runs of 2 minutes. I actually won one of the marlins and the motor was the first thing I tossed in the garbage, not sure if I got the bad one or not.
Great comparison! I guess the HH motor ist at least 5 times more expensive than the stock motor :) But I admit I would also go with the HH motor instead of the stock can. :)
Oh yeah just saw the prices. Holy crap. So this would also be a better choice than the yeah racing things and the rc4wd cans. So you probably cant do something wrong with the HH.

What you think if I put that motor in the trx4. You think it will do better I'm keep killing the 21t traxxas motor
Chances are you’re stalling it a lot causing issues. Sure it’s a better motor but they aren’t invincible. I did a video on motor stalling.
have gen7 pro and want to upgrade to a LITTLE faster and loads more crawlability 21t or 12t? it needs to be a "rock basher" type vehicle
