Urgo she is responsible for Korea's unification lol, not because she was a great leader or anything but she was so bad it made it easy to subjugate them into unification
I like the rocket-cart (hwacha) the Koreans brought to medieval battlefields, but on the other hand it is also a pity to not have the ingenious turtle ships in the game 😐.

they are taking the feminist route they are desparatley trying to put in as many female leaders asthey can. just look at Gorgo doesnt make sense either....
I know for some weird reason, people are really upset with Seondeok being the leader, but my issue isn't with her its with how she looks. I hope they do what they did to Teddy and just make her look overall better. She doesn't even look like she's from Korea.
Exactly what I thought - sure, go try expose us to some unknown personalities but atleast get the look right. Really what is this???? Her nose and her mannerisms...
I am a bit disappointed that she doesn't look like how I envisioned her. I guess I envisioned her to look like her character from the drama "Queen Seondeok" but I am still so glad she is in the game and her bonuses are awesome! What is up with her right hand at 00:15 though lol
Fun fact: the historical Queen Seondeok (pronounced 'sun-duk' with a very soft 's') was in fact a very scientifically minded queen, not for having introduced the seowon (pronounced 'suh-won'), but rather she is responsible for her commissioning of some of the world's first astrological observatories, around the 7th C CE. The seowon wasn't really introduced until the 15th C. by King Sejong, whom Civ 5 players are of course familiar with. The stone observatories are in fact amazing artifacts that still exist today in modern day Gyeongju, as well as her beautiful tomb you can still visit today in the countryside. If you ever visit Korea try to visit Gyeongju, easily one of my favourite cities in Korea for many reasons, including the fact that her tomb is there. It would have been cool if the Civ developers were a bit more sensitive to small detail like that which would have made the game a bit more historically accurate and educational... as well as some other things. If I was responsible for the development of this game, I would have given her a special early campus building modeled on the observatory which she is in fact very famous for in fact today. Then the seowon would be introduced as an additional campus building as a replacement for the university. Also in the case of Pericles, rather than Plato's Republic, they should have added Plato's Academy as a kind of early university... because Plato's Republic is something that is a historical fiction if not just a theory more than anything else. (If Plato's Republic actually existed, they probably would not have killed Socrates nor would Aristotle have left Athens in civil disobedience)
I think an important part of Civilization is that it represents the civs throughout their history, and not at the time of the leader: France's special unit is from Napoleonic times, even though their leaders are from the middle ages, and their unique building is from the Renaissance. It's the same for Korea, I believe.
Kings and Generals Many Koreans are disappointed that the leader of Korean civilization is King Seondeok. Silla, whom she ruled, was in total crisis. I think the producer only paid attention to being the first queen in Korea.
DUDE a K-Pop unit that replaces Great Musicians and provides bonus tourism would be so nice. Too bad they totally disregard anything new/recent in the Information Era that is similar to anything in the 2000s.
I actaully really like that the leaders chosen for the civs aren't the standard famous ones that were used in all the civ games before. I prefer having a great viarity with lots of different and unique leaders, even if they are obscure. Sure doesn't get boring like this.
While I also would have preferred Sejong, I don't think it's a bad idea to have the leader be Seondeok. As influential as the Joseon Dynasty (Sejong's lineage) was to constructing Korea's cultural identity, they are used quite often to represent Korea in historical games. I would say it's quite refreshing to have a leader from the Korean Three Kingdoms. Speaking of, since the Civ ability is literally called "Three Kingdoms", I wonder if another monarch from the Korean Three Kingdoms will be an alternative leader... say Gwangaeto the Great?
Ya know, if they aren't giving us sejong, turtle ships, or something like the Hwarang warriors since she is from the shilla kingdom, they could at least make her look Korean and not southeast asian.
Well, Korean clothes changed a lot during its long history. Just like roman empire's clothing and Italian clothing are different. So when it comes to Shilla Kingdom, her look is quite accurate.
Lol, Malaysian... I love that comment. Yeah, she's a bit brownish compare to how Korean women usually had fair skin. You know what, I want a Malaysian civ. Probably put Sultan Mansur of Malacca or King Parameswara as their leader. It also fits the Rise and Fall theme too. As a Malaysian, I demand a representation.
marlo Med Koreans are not naturally born with white skin. The ancestors of China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan have yellowish-brown skin and thats why they are called Mongoloids or the Yellow Race. Modern Koreans had a intense popularity of having white skins because of modern Korean beauty standards.
Jarethenator ah, that's impressive. Maybe all of the Civs in this expansion are related to that. I've already seen what looks like Mongol and Turkish armies in the trailer. It's very possible they are all hidden in the trailer
lilith shopping What you said is comparatively more racist than what yjsohn said, and I'm saying this as an Asian. In fact, what yjsohn said isn't racist at all. Asians can look different from each other.
It was 40 years after Seondeoks death that Silla became the dominant Korean state, before collapsing without truly unifying korea. What we know as korea today (or the two koreas) was made by Sejong 700 years later. Saying that it was Seondeok that laid the base for korean unification, when it was chinese meddling in korean affairs that allowed Silla to grow dominant, is not very historically honest. Just because you liked the TV-series you cant just add her over fucking Sejong. Thats like choosing Rukh rather than Timur for the timurids. Yes she did great things but she pales compared to Sejong. If you want female leaders go add the ones that are not completely overshadowed by their male counterparts. Also fucking fix france to atleast have someone who actually led the country
Magnus Dahl Catherine de Medici did “rule” France. She was a puppet master who controlled her three incompetent sons. Without her France would not have been an actual power in the later half of the 17th century. But I totally agree with Sejong coming back. Hands down most important ruler of Korea. This corrupt hack they are trying to shoehorn in for diversity sake can go heck right off.
They already had Sejong in Civ 5. They're not going to put the same leader twice in a row. That's lame. He's the main choice, but he's been taken already, so we're getting someone else.
"They're not going to put the same leader twice in a row. That's lame." - Gandhi - Alexander - Montezuma - Elizabeth (IV to V) - Isabella (IV to V) - Genghis Khan (IV to V) - Darius (IV to V)
문명시리즈의 팬으로, 문명6에 한국이 나오기를 고대했습니다. As fan of CIV series, wait for KOREA In CIV6. 선덕여왕이 지도자로 등장한다면 한국은 문화적 혹은 종교적 특성을 가지고 나오리라 생각했습니다. I think queen Seondeok's KOREA has cultural or religious trait. 하지만 영상에 나왔듯, 선덕여왕은 과학적 특성을 가지고 있군요. But now, queen Seondeok's KOREA has scientific trait. 문5와는 다른 새로운 특성의 플레이를 기대했는데 아쉽습니다. Different from CIV5, expect new trait and fresh play with korea. Sorry for didn't that.
I would love to see the Netherlands make a come back in this expansion. It fits the Rise and Fall theme pretty good aswell! And if they are gonna make a female leader for it... well, fine. As long as it's Wilhelmina!
Pineaux MOST LIKELY, I SAY 97%. The announcement has many hints to the Netherlands like the had with the Korean crown, in many of the scenes they’re wearing typical Dutch attire and on the map scene if you pause and look it will literally say “polder polder polder” everywhere
Rudy Steiner I just looked at it at it is an old map of Amsterdam. Or some well known area's in Amsterdam at least (not sure of the geographical accuracy). So I am exited!
Reading a recent news about Overwatch, the game will release more "content" in the next days and etc.. It's funny how both games have this dumb cartoon looking, forced diversity all over, etc.. But we can consider Overwatch a success, civ 6 a failure. idk about their sales number or any of this crap, but seeing the reactions on mainstream forums, people on steam talking shit, etc.. We can consider civ 6 a partial failure, perhaps?
So very briefly, Korea and Japan have opposing district functions. Japan supports mass clusters of district while Korea prefers to isolate its campus district. Very unique.
Turtle ships weren't against cannons, but against boarding attacks popular at the time. (The Japanese had weaker cannons than the Koreans, as they didn't really concentrate on their navy)
Crazy to think how far the game has come in modding and Civs available. Looking forward to new information for Civ 7 after the recent announcement of development! :)
They still haven't included the massive empires of the Mongols and Portugal . Also it would be nice to see the austia-hungary empire since they were a major power at the time that has no representation by any civ
Boi.. I studied her when I was in high school and only thing I can recall now is she was first female king in Korean history. Maybe playing her will bring back more memories^^;
Why... Seondeok...? She isn’t that highly regarded in Korea. Korea has plenty of other great leaders. Why not Admiral Yi? Gwangaeto the Great? King Taejo? Wang Gun? Hell, if Gandhi is an Indian ruler (also why is he the one and only? India had plenty of great rulers, come on guys. Is he only there for a meme value?), Kim Goo can be one as well. Also she does not look Korean at all. Come on guys wtf
also, many korean dislike silla dynasty. because in the samkuk's era, korea's historical identity is being on the goguryeo (=high korea) dynasty. but silla destroyed goguryeo government (with chinese goverment) thus, this is very insulting choise to koreans. yes....they are definitely korean's ancestor. but, for example, it seems like Mehmet II was be the leader of roman civilization. bcoz "3th roma" is definitely ottoman empiere.. isn't it?
They destroyed Korea with China? Of course They will ask for China's help. Need I remind these Koreans the Goguryeo and Baekje was attacking Shilla countless of times just because they see a woman leader as weak? And Seondeok also did not gain the alliance of the Tang Emperor easily but she needed an ally when her nation was being attacked. It is natural to seek an alliance with Tang. Also, majority of Goguryeo's territory is in China.
Highly offended that the Least Korean Kingdom (Silla) is representing Korea - out of all the Korean Kingdoms and Empires that existed. Silla was a kingdom erected by the Xianbei people (more mongolian). Should have gone for Beakje or Goguryeo monarchs instead. Whatever, I already gave up on this game because of their incompetent leader choosing habits -> France being a prime example. Great job for the composers for the music tho.
There was an excellent Mod for Civ V for *Viet Nam* under the ancient Trưng Sisters. It made me go and look up their history and it was challenging to work out a victory. Could that be coming soon?
Vietnam as lead by the Trưng Sisters has been one of my most requested civs. I was glad to see the mod, and hopefully it can become official. The only thing is, adding the Viet Cong as a unique unit probably wouldn't happen. I imagine their UU would be something more historic and less recent and traumatic.
Queen seondeok has nothing to do with Seowon... those were the Confucius institutions during the Joseon period which was 1500 years after her time. She was encouraging buddhism and built numerous buddhist temples.
Two hundred years later, Balhae was destroyed by the North's inhabitants(liao dynasty), and the descendants of the Goguryeo in the reign of the Unified Silla rebellion destroyed Silla and became the descendants of Goguryeo. King Wang Geun , the descendent of Goguryeo, built the country. This country is called korea today. Wang Geun did not rely on China but called the Emperor and tried to regain the lost Goguryeo territory with Balhae people. The map that combined North and South today was completed by descendants to take over the spirit of Koguryeo.
Holland had 2 famous female leaders so its a good shout. Also both of the female leaders did something famous while in power, but I forget what. I think one of them was a WW11 leader... one of them might of been Williamella?
With Civ VI's focus on females the Dutch leader is probably going to be Wilhemina, which I'm totally fine with. Other leaders with whom I'd be fine with are: Maurits van Oranje, Johan de Witt, Stadhouder Willem III or King Willem I.
1. She is overglorified as hell just because she was the very first queen in korean history. Aside from that, she spent most of her time wasting taxes on buddihsm and construction of overpriced temples while their neighbors were closing on their throat. Majority of korean historians denounce her name and crticize heavily for this
Rudolf Nechvile Why not Bohemia? So many missed civilizations yet people would love to keep readding theirs. And I was fine with Maria Theresia, although I'd fancy Joseph the Second better.
Snowblade I'd just like to see more European majors in this game, but with different leaders. I wouldn't mind Bohemia and as for Austria I'd like to see Francis I (II).
In korea, Queen Sunduck is not good leader. She lost 100 castle! And she was not great leader! Real great leader is King Muyeol(Queen Sunduck's nephew. He saved the dying nation)and King Munmu(King Muyeol's son. He made united nation)
장승운 what the fuck are you idiots talking about there's like what 7 female leaders in the entire game and I'm sure there have been far more throughout history so yes females need some fucking representation in a game that is devoted to emulating human civilizations.
>yes females need some fucking representation No they don't, many of those "queens" didn't directly reigned or saw over their kingdoms as much and neither did they take up the responsability for doing it for more time that male rulers who actually oversaw their kingdoms did, mostly of the queens were used in their marraiges to settle differences between families, seeing female rulers who would actually do shit was even more uncommon than a male ruler giving a shit about their country or act in it.
Boo hoo hoo! The idea of female leaders trigger me! WAAAAHHHH!!!! For fuck's sake, are you really that insecure? A female character shows up and that immediately makes it an "SJW conspiracy"? Grow some balls for christ's sake
Can you imagine Kim Jong Un animated in this game's style? He would look like the kid from UP wearing a black jumpsuit with his stupid hair. It would have been outstanding.
I think he's in Civ 5. They probably didn't want the same leader twice in a row.
7 років тому+3
+Kevin Hernandez-Rives It's not that they didn't want the same leader twice in a row. It's that Firaxis has gone full feminist and will sweat their brains out to include every female leader. She doesn't have to be relevant, she just has to be female.
Liam Lee if you didn't have your head up your ass you would be able to see that the only leader they kept from Civ 5 is Ghand. Everyone else is different
Kim and his North Korea regime are too controversial, so I'm with the pro-Sejong camp. At least not only is Sejong more notable in Korean history, but with him and his traditional grandeur around instead of a concrete pseudo-communist leader, the game can have a better way to promote Korean culture. Civilization games should be about promoting the cultures of the civilisations featured in each iteration.
I don't understand people asking for the same unique leader as in Civ V. Sejong for Korea, Napoleon for France... I mean, there are a lot of great leaders, and in games which aren't like Civ IV with multiple leaders (good old times), it's better to change from one year to another, isn't it ? I know that for France, there are other arguments, which are for example that Catherine didn't nominally rule and wasn't as great a leader as Napoleon or Louis XIV, that she's there for the parity. This is valid, but at least they didn't put a 2 years general, Joan of Arc, but a 30 years ruler (in fact) through her sons, after having been the wife of Henry II under which rule France had a splendid (and economically desastrous) court. I think it nice to have new leaders never seen in before Civilizations (if France is added a second leader, of for Civ VII, I root for Charles V or Philippe Auguste). So for Korea, it's the same, it's nice to see a new face ! (Sorry if I spoke more of France than of Korea, it's because it's one of the critical points of debate among the fans, and I draw a parallel between that and more generally the fact to ask for the same leaders than in Civ V)
I understand, and this new Korean queen seems to have been one. In the case of Catherine, it was far from the most glorious time for France because of the Wars of Religion, but she herself, if you know her a bit, was a great queen who had to deal with a huge amount of adversity. It's not like putting Cleopatra for Egypt while she actually lost the dynasty, more problematic... Or Theodora in Civ V while she's the wife of the true greatest emperor of this civilization Justinian.
Seondeok does get a lot of hype for being Korea's first queen and the folklore that surrounds her, but objectively she was a pretty ineffective monarch. I too feel that this is the only reason Firaxis lazily picked her when considering her two successors (one of them was also a queen mind you) brought Silla to a golden age and succeed in conquering the other two Korean kingdoms.
Yey, Korea...this will end well (looks at comments) I like it, but please reduce science output, without even building 1 science district i'm usually done with science in the middle ages, even on king+ playing a country that has 0 bonuses...if the game even lasts that long. Korea will be done with sience what, 0bc?
"yey, Korea...this will end well (looks at comments)" Cringe. Are reditors this obnoxious even outside reddit? Koreans don't like her since she's literally one of the worse leaders in their history. Let alone the obvious political agenda pushing that they wanted to include more "under represented wymen"
Her achievements Only lose land with never getting, she lose 40 castles. "F.O.R.T.H.Y." Despite Silla was stronger than neighboring countries (This causes the Silla is still up to the time of destruction.) Never opposed to the opinions of the servants Do not plan to develop and only cry to hold Chinese pants Do not know Chinese culture and do bad diplomatic manners Never communicate positively with the other Korean nations of Baekje and Goguryeo before korean unification (Despite their positive attitude) Build too expensive temples by raising gold from all over the country (She never care about the hungry people) Provide the fire of war to neighboring country by naming the rooms of temple as name of city in neighboring country Even though the country was in ruins, she had luxury People uprise against her tyranny and she trembled without anything idea Dying in the hands of rebel, helping the next queen to come to the throne Sundeok is never a good leader.
Cool new civ! If you don't mind, I have a couple suggestions for the rest- Boudicca, Celts Corazon Aquino, Philippines Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia Khutulun, Mongolia Eva Peron, Argentina And extra rulers for existing civs- Hatshepsut, Egypt Indira Gandhi, India Thanks! I think any one of these leaders would be a great addition to the game! Please consider!
As a Korean, I heartily approve Seondeok as the leader choice for Civ VI. Sejong is my favorite but Seondeok was quite accomplished and set up Silla with alliances to strengthen its position at a time when Silla was one of the weaker kingdoms in Korea. (Firaxis, please ignore the trolls on UA-cam who want a male instead of a female or argue that Seondeok was some sort of "traitor"). Seondeok had numerous accomplishments that weren't for the governing elite either--she made life easier for commoners, trained her hwarang warriors, constructed monuments, solidified Buddhism as a state religion, and appointed excellent generals. This being said, Seondeok as shown doesn't quite look Korean, and looks more foreign for some reason, and her robe appears Chinese rather than Korean. The "Three Kingdoms" ability boosting mines and farms has very little to do with the Three Kingdoms. Giving it a different name (would only require a slight shift in text) is advised. That being said, I'm happy Korea will be in the expansion. Next time though, please give them the blue and red colors back.
Korea deserves a militant transformation. We weren't always nerds calculating shit whilst others drew blood. They should have chosen General SunShin with his turtle ships that quite frankly pulled off a naval version of Hannibal's feats and won against both domestic and foreign enemies. Gwanggaeto the Great is also a good candidate as he opened a golden age for Korea and what is arguably the first time we went imperial.
Ok but she was Queen of Silla not the Unified Jeoson Korea that is represented in the game. Are we going to make Caesar the leader of Italy? Charlemagne leader of Germany? If you want more female rulers great. Call them Silla.
Why all the complaining? There will be a mod for King Sejong on day 1 in the workshop. Civ 6 made it easier than ever to have alternate leaders. Are you upset that Firaxis decided to spend resources to animate the leader they wanted to animate instead of the one you think they should have done?
I love the new civs, but could you guys start working on new leaders? At this point, I kind of hoped there would be 2-3 leaders for every Civilization. That seems like it was the point of the system you made, with the separation of leader and civ. Hopefully we'll see that expanding more in the future.
If she was a peasant farmer, yeah, but most East Asian royalty not only stayed indoors most of their life but also wore makeup to make them look as white as possible.
She is regarded as a good wise king, but in contrast, There is also an assessment that she was an incompetent king. There are three peoples in Korea, and the peoples of the west and east, north are different. There is a theory that it is overestimated, and the Baekje people, who were the opposite countries, have a lot of people who hate this queen. Baekje is the western part of the Korean peninsula for reference. According to the disliked people, it is a sycophant, a real diplomatic force that has been ignored by China(tang dynasty), and the military has been extensively pushed to the west. Like Edward I in the UK, there are a lot of people who hate in some areas and have a different appraisal. Especially in the north of the Korean peninsula (now North Korea) Because they have pressed themselves to rely on China, they are not aware of it now. At that time, Silla was pushed by the Koguryeo(north)&baejae(west) in the military It is the opinion of scholars that it would have gone without the help of China. Silla and China were not normal alliances, and Silla was a dependency There is an assessment that her and her descendants' diplomacy depends on a powerful country.
Is it just me or could Firaxis maybe get a bit more creative with civs? Like, yes, the Greeks were known for culture but, for the love of God, we already did that in Civ 5. Find some Greek leader who isn't all culture or all Spartan warrior. Now, the same thing with Korea. They were science leaders in the last game and will probably be broken in terms of science this time around. Why not a Greece with Archimedes as a leader and maybe some boost to aqueducts and engineering? Germany, India, Greece, Korea, Rome, a bunch of these civs fit exactly the same role that they did in the last game. Be a little original.
Thanks for watching! Be sure to like the video and subscribe to the channel for more content!
What do you like most about Korea? How will you use this new civ in Civilization VI: Rise and Fall?
Sid Meier's Civilization called it, the outfit you had the "daughter" wear gave it away.
I like how they will nuke me when i get my first swordman
will I get this because I got the more expensive civ when it first came out? or will i have to purchase this expansion
such a bad civ design honestly. so tasteless.
Sid Meier's Civilization so being that I like to poke the bear some. I am assuming that the trailer will be giving hints in which Civs we should be expecting this expansion. I can tell that Genghis Khan or some other Mongol based Civs from the "Horse Archer" scene. But there are a few I'm still going over. I'm thinking they were more subtle ask the trailer went on. Any input in this? Feedback would be appreciated.
That Seowon looks busted... 6 science at the very start? Can't wait to see my swordsmen fight against Korean tanks and helicopters at 1000 BC.
Dennis Chan Australia can get the same thing if placed right (next to 3 mountains for example). Plus it seems they’re extremely reliant on having that district.
need a proper district placement and u need farms and mines adjacent to it too

Allen Crowder yup. but its more complicated than acropolis. well i need to improve my district placement, i guess
Didn't specify you need improvements around it, improvements get bonus yields and that seems to be it. The thing is that they can just go wide, build Seowons in every city for cheap for insane science yields. The snowball potential is off the charts.

t. civ 6 dev
Urgo she is responsible for Korea's unification lol, not because she was a great leader or anything but she was so bad it made it easy to subjugate them into unification
Lavendar 13 you forgot "-has vagina"
>15 year reign
>cucked by superior Goguryeo chad kingdom
>bends over for Tang
[chinese laughter]
Ben Wilson TMW her empire was the one that conquered the other ones
I like the rocket-cart (hwacha) the Koreans brought to medieval battlefields, but on the other hand it is also a pity to not have the ingenious turtle ships in the game 😐.
It could work. But not that OP if we were to use logic. It only worked because the japanese were boarding ships as their strategy (their only strat i'm guessing). The shell was there to avoid such cases.
But as I've said, it could work. Civ 6 should be a representation of cultures, not logic (colombias busted speed units aren't really realistic for example)
Their leader should be Kim Jong Un, his ability: Little Rocketman - produce nuclear weapons and research faster while under embargo
Should also have a feud with the US and call their president "old" and get replied "I can´t believe he would insult me by calling me old, its not like I insult him by calling him short and fat." xD
And his agenda is "Best Korea": Dislikes all civs and denounces them all. Except Gandhi.
This has to become a mod XD so good
Lol his ability could be an increase in GPT while under embargo. Because even after the US and basically the entire world cut off trade, he still finds money for his nuclear program
Andrew Maddox at the cost of food XD
would have thought Sejong the Great would be the ruler considering how highly regarded he is.
Mitts They are trying to make the rulers different from civ 5 i think
they are taking the feminist route they are desparatley trying to put in as many female leaders asthey can. just look at Gorgo doesnt make sense either....
No it must be a female leader despite being one of the most patriarchal societies in the world to this day because muh 2017
Gorgo was amazing for her time, yet you act as woman dont do anything to help there countries
Never said she didnt do good things for her nation but she is by far not the most influential.
She looks like Filipino or Hispanic not Korean
I don't like the caricature approach to the leaders in Civ 6.
Tangerine Martini agree
Because Sejong is the best
I am a bit disappointed that she doesn't look like how I envisioned her. I guess I envisioned her to look like her character from the drama "Queen Seondeok" but I am still so glad she is in the game and her bonuses are awesome!
What is up with her right hand at 00:15 though lol
THAT HAND LMAO
Omg , that hand is so ugly😂
Fun fact: the historical Queen Seondeok (pronounced 'sun-duk' with a very soft 's') was in fact a very scientifically minded queen, not for having introduced the seowon (pronounced 'suh-won'), but rather she is responsible for her commissioning of some of the world's first astrological observatories, around the 7th C CE. I think an important part of Civilization is that it represents the civs throughout their history, and not at the time of the leader: France's special unit is from Napoleonic times, even though their leaders are from the middle ages, and their unique building is from the Renaissance. It's the same for Korea, I believe.
Well, I guess that is a good reason to learn about her.
Kings and Generals Love your videos :D
She is pretty awesome. She led to the conquering of two surrounding enemies into Korea.
Kings and Generals Many Koreans are disappointed that the leader of Korean civilization is King Seondeok. Silla, whom she ruled, was in total crisis. I think the producer only paid attention to being the first queen in Korea.
Do you want us to make an overview for this period?
Glad to see you here. Waiting for Ottoman video.
I love that the Korean theme is Arirang.
Unique unit, K-pop star, they instantly make all female leaders ally to you and giving you all their money in exchange for their pictures.
Alberto Maquintoche
Honestly i think civ 6 is degrading more and more toward rpg style.
I was really expecting something like that
savage xD
DUDE a K-Pop unit that replaces Great Musicians and provides bonus tourism would be so nice. Too bad they totally disregard anything new/recent in the Information Era that is similar to anything in the 2000s.
Alberto Maquintoche so true
Well now there is a new leader
Ya know, if they aren't giving us sejong, turtle ships, or something like the Hwarang warriors since she is from the shilla kingdom, they could at least make her look Korean and not southeast asian.
Yes, I am angry that there is no Hwarang!
Well, Korean clothes changed a lot during its long history. Just like roman empire's clothing and Italian clothing are different. So when it comes to Shilla Kingdom, her look is quite accurate.
LOL
She doesn't look Korean...she looks malaysian...or even filipino
Lol, Malaysian... I love that comment. Yeah, she's a bit brownish compare to how Korean women usually had fair skin.
You know what, I want a Malaysian civ. Probably put Sultan Mansur of Malacca or King Parameswara as their leader. It also fits the Rise and Fall theme too. As a Malaysian, I demand a representation.
That's firaxis way of saying that Korea was ruled by the Philippines during her reign. Pretty racist!
takarifan but parameswara is india not malay
marlo Med Koreans are not naturally born with white skin. The ancestors of China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan have yellowish-brown skin and thats why they are called Mongoloids or the Yellow Race. Modern Koreans had a intense popularity of having white skins because of modern Korean beauty standards.
@@clarksorenes7106 yea lmao compared to north Korean who look browner its obvious all this white skin is plastic surgery.
Why not Sejong?
why not great leader kim
They wanted to do someone different and that's probably the main reason.
no matter how great he is, if they didnt have vagina these american company dont want them!
He wouldn't fit the rise and fall theme
Sejong was in Civ 5..maybe thats why
Somewhat fitting that Korea would be in this expansion as it certainly has had a bit of a Rise and Fall over the course of this modern history...
you're right
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Jarethenator ah, that's impressive. Maybe all of the Civs in this expansion are related to that. I've already seen what looks like Mongol and Turkish armies in the trailer. It's very possible they are all hidden in the trailer
That's funny, I like it.
Does it? It just falls right..
And no Turtle Ship :(
maybe they could give Korea a 2nd alt leader, admiral yi sun sin :P with turtle ships.
We can only hope XD
Or the guy whi make the more units mod.
That's what I'm most disappointed about
Gustavo Cassali at least our great admiral saved korea, not destroy it
Yes I Know Yi History...
She looks more like she's from Siam or somewhere else from the south Asia, rather than its eastern part.
She looked more African than Asian (east or southeast) tbh.
Jesus y'all never seen an average everyday Korean (who's not a model)
why does she look Indonesian
Koreans are asian, Indonesians are asian, period.
lilith shopping
What you said is comparatively more racist than what yjsohn said, and I'm saying this as an Asian. In fact, what yjsohn said isn't racist at all. Asians can look different from each other.
oh, right, koreans are good at plastic surgery jobs, which do make them look different from each other
it's like saying a Greek looks like a Swede...
lilith shopping belingz to you're talk, the all afreecans gonna all look same? no!
you have to know 'asian' is not all looks same.
WE WANT SEJONG THE GREAT!
NUKE yea but atleast be happy that we got korea in the game
SEJONG OR RIOT
play civ 5
Sejong was the leader in Civ V. Or do you know nothing of your Civ history? Shame! :)
David Sprenkle
Of course I know, but Sejong is better than her!
No turtle ships?
we want Admiral Yi. True hero of Korea
Three Lions he was a general not a ruler, hopefully he shows up as a great naval captain unit
Three Lions He’s one of the Great Admiral units in Civ 6.
Plunge Turtle ships appeared 1000 years after her era.. so... No
Tangerine Martini So were huachas... your point?
That's lame."
- Gandhi
- Alexander
- Montezuma
- Elizabeth (IV to V)
- Isabella (IV to V)
- Genghis Khan (IV to V)
- Darius (IV to V)
Only played 6 and saw that some were different. Assumed they were always different. That's lame.
So every tuesday a new leader then?
probably. 8 civs, roughly 8 weeks to go.
I guess so
8 if its by civilization 9 if its by leader
one if by land, 2 if by sea.
masterofthecontinuum lmao
Funny how the international version is private and that's where all of the actual Korean people are commenting how much they hate this leader.

As fan of CIV series, wait for KOREA In CIV6.
선덕여왕이 지도자로 등장한다면 한국은 문화적 혹은 종교적 특성을 가지고 나오리라 생각했습니다.
I think queen Seondeok's KOREA has cultural or religious trait.
하지만 영상에 나왔듯, 선덕여왕은 과학적 특성을 가지고 있군요.
But now, queen Seondeok's KOREA has scientific trait.

We need King Sejong!
Tinnakorn Wantae 3 Totally agreed.
go play civ 5 hes there.
Tinnakorn Wantae 3 WE NEED OUR DEER AND ONLY TRUE LEADER OIM JONG UM
there are 9 new leaders and 8 new civs, sejong may also be a leader

Canada will probably be a mod
Pizza Canada is already a mod.
Oh dear you predict the future
Will there be the Netherlands please? I need to build all the polders everywhere
The Netherlands would be pretty cool
She will be available in Civ 6,something called Radio Oranje.
Just um,check at one of the Netherland's TV.
This incompetent queen ruined her kingdom at once losing 50 cities..
developers, you guys should have chosen the leader more carefully
I'ts like If I choose Napolean the III of France and said he set the Stage for the unification of Germany.
Seems that they look for any female leader now.
It doesn't matter what the leader did, bad or good deeds.. What matter is their sex.
In their defense, this expansion is called Rise & "FALL"...
I don't know much about Korean history but I would have probably picked a gorgryeo leader since they resisted against the Chinese invasions.
Interesting so far, though nothing too extraordinary. Looking forward to the other civs to be announced!
TheDecepticondude every tuesday😉
So very briefly, Korea and Japan have opposing district functions. Japan supports mass clusters of district while Korea prefers to isolate its campus district. Very unique.
No Turtle Ship?
Aw....
That came later, when the Koreans developed a way to combat Japan's cannons
So did hwachas, so clearly it's not the anachronism they're trying to avoid
Turtle ships weren't against cannons, but against boarding attacks popular at the time. (The Japanese had weaker cannons than the Koreans, as they didn't really concentrate on their navy)
So unique ability is "Three kingdoms" which related to "Seowon" in "Joseon era" huh?
Crazy to think how far the game has come in modding and Civs available. Looking forward to new information for Civ 7 after the recent announcement of development! :)
They still haven't included the massive empires of the Mongols and Portugal . Also it would be nice to see the austia-hungary empire since they were a major power at the time that has no representation by any civ
Portugal? Are you kidding?
Next Civ is Netherlands led by Wilhelmina, got leaked recently.
Boi.. I studied her when I was in high school and only thing I can recall now is she was first female king in Korean history. Maybe playing her will bring back more memories^^;
Wait, "king"? Did Korea pull a Poland and call a woman a "king" to bypass laws?
Genuinely curious.

Come on guys wtf
also, many korean dislike silla dynasty.
because in the samkuk's era, korea's historical identity is being on the goguryeo (=high korea) dynasty.
but silla destroyed goguryeo government (with chinese goverment)
thus, this is very insulting choise to koreans.
yes....they are definitely korean's ancestor. but, for example, it seems like Mehmet II was be the leader of roman civilization.
bcoz "3th roma" is definitely ottoman empiere..
20% bonus towards nuclear technology
That's north Korea, not united
There was an excellent Mod for Civ V for *Viet Nam* under the ancient Trưng Sisters.
It made me go and look up their history and it was challenging to work out a victory.
Could that be coming soon?
Vietnam as lead by the Trưng Sisters has been one of my most requested civs. I was glad to see the mod, and hopefully it can become official. The only thing is, adding the Viet Cong as a unique unit probably wouldn't happen. I imagine their UU would be something more historic and less recent and traumatic.

My fingers are crossed for William of Orange!
Yes please!
I want The Netherlands but no William of Orange. I want a new leader but I've no idea who.
Trident I usually hope for new leaders instead of the usual ones, but William is is just too good.
Majority of korean historians denounce her name and crticize heavily for this

>yes females need some fucking representation
No they don't, many of those "queens" didn't directly reigned or saw over their kingdoms as much and neither did they take up the responsability for doing it for more time that male rulers who actually oversaw their kingdoms did, mostly of the queens were used in their marraiges to settle differences between families, seeing female rulers who would actually do shit was even more uncommon than a male ruler giving a shit about their country or act in it.
kyubii972 loooooooool. Soy overdose.
kyubii972 I don’t understand the rationale behind this. Do women need to see female characters in video games to feel good about themselves?

This Korea: 0/10 not best Korea
Kim and his North Korea regime are too controversial, so I'm with the pro-Sejong camp. At least not only is Sejong more notable in Korean history, but with him and his traditional grandeur around instead of a concrete pseudo-communist leader, the game can have a better way to promote Korean culture.
Civilization games should be about promoting the cultures of the civilisations featured in each iteration.
At last, the sassy black lady in charge of an Asian country that we've all been waiting for
I don't understand people asking for the same unique leader as in Civ V.
People ask for legit leaders, not nobodies worse than Dan Quayle
Eldriant, Seondeok was the one that started the Silla Golden Age. The others just rested on the foundations she laid.
Ulfric Sombrage Napoleon is Italian and nobody bats an eyelash.

Mordin Solus I'm happy that they are using a different leader this time, tbh.
Mordin Solus Civ 5 he's in a different game. With different mechanics
Who else thought her hat was much bigger and her body was much shorter because of the thumbnail?
I wish they would've gone with their original plan for her special ability: "Hwoarang; allows all melee units to preform the 'Hunting Hawk'."
Why all the complaining? There will be a mod for King Sejong on day 1 in the workshop. Civ 6 made it easier than ever to have alternate leaders. Are you upset that Firaxis decided to spend resources to animate the leader they wanted to animate instead of the one you think they should have done?
not to mention Civ 5 has Sejong and hasn't gone anywhere.
I love the new civs, but could you guys start working on new leaders? At this point, I kind of hoped there would be 2-3 leaders for every Civilization. That seems like it was the point of the system you made, with the separation of leader and civ. Hopefully we'll see that expanding more in the future.
The real question is... IS THE VOICE ACTING AS BAD AS SAEJONG IN civ5

She doesn't even look Korean
Unless someone wants to remind me of the Filipino Queen of Korea lmao
No, she doesn't look Korean. It's the eyes, at least for me. Face and skin color are believable.
If she was a peasant farmer, yeah, but most East Asian royalty not only stayed indoors most of their life but also wore makeup to make them look as white as possible.
She is regarded as a good wise king, but in contrast,
There is also an assessment that she was an incompetent king.
At that time, Silla was pushed by the Koguryeo(north)&baejae(west) in the military
It is the opinion of scholars that it would have gone without the help of China.
Silla and China were not normal alliances, and Silla was a dependency
There is an assessment that her and her descendants' diplomacy depends on a powerful country.
Kingdom of Bohemia, please?
Snowblade oh yeah!
She looks Filipino
Koreans look like that without their famous plastic surgery industry. It's true
