Stefanos G cuz there was a point in their history where they nearly lost their whole language let alone writing and the resourc thing is due to their environmentalism. I wouldn't worry about the no writers though because their ub will be insane for both religion and culture victories
@Husarz Always thinking the white people did it, lol. Yeah, they kinda brought it upon themselves. They lived on small islands and such and by cutting down enough trees, you will eventually kinda destroy your island. Haven't you seen Moana?
Husarz the language thing was just because they didn't place value in written language or recorded history and instead placed more emphasis on visual storytelling and the environmental thing wasn't a particular event more just their cultural values. I'm not an expert though but I do find their culture very interesting and would recommend doing your own research. They also cannibalised their enemies and collected their hollowed skulls btw.
Holy shit...this Civ is amazing! I don’t often see things and think “broken” before I play but they have bonuses in EVERY outcome of the game! I love it
A good little thing I noticed is the palace gives 3 housing, the same as a river or lake. This allows Maori to ignore fresh water bonuses when settling the capital. Only downside is that they have melee units which will most likely only be used for coastal cities, so they've lost some potential
Everyone: I think this civ will definitely be relevant for my strategies in the current meta Me: Reloads the video constantly just for their amazing soundtrack
That because they were overpowered people in real life. They took part in world war and the Maori battalion inspired alot of US and other nations to dominate. Māori did alot in Turkey during the war. Also they didnt lose to the British empire but conned Into signing a bullshit treaty.
@Hoàng Nguyên considering the number in population I believe Māori would have been far more superior. We are only a small nation compared to Vietnam. And we too also fought to the end hence our hand was forced for a treaty settlement because the Brits were the ones exhausted. We invented trench warfare which was then adopted by the Brits in worldwar2. Hitler himself wanted 2000 Māori to fight for him after seeing what we were doing in Turkey wiping out his men. but we all knew he would have slaughtered us if he conquered the world. But I do like the vietz they good peps.
Wow...looks like my new favourite island map civ! But the bonuses to forests and rainforests and the unique Amphitheatre would be pretty solid on Pangaea as well.
Probably a real person who's true story was lost to time. He is mentioned throughout various parts of Polynesian oral history with his final mention being one of the people who either found NZ or was a significant part of it's first colonisation period. Some academics say he is not a real person and is a result of colonial academics trying to sound informed and edgy. Imho Kupe and Maui were either the same person or closely related if he indeed existed. He is without a doubt a person of interest in Polynesian culture.
He's a legendary figure. We only have oral tradition to go on, which isn't 100% reliable. It's possible Kupe is based on a real person whose true story is lost to time. Archaeology is limited mostly to earthworks and middens, so piecing things together is extremely tough. New Zealand has no historical records until Abel Tasman visited in 1642, and after the voyages of Cook our history becomes much better recorded.
I think this is the first comments section that has been almost entirely wholesome for Civ 6. I'm excited for this civ! I just need to get around to actually buying this thing.
The first Civ post launch that Im genuinely looking forward to play. More Civs need things that alters the game on a deeper level than just "+1 food" stuff.

Stefanos G cuz there was a point in their history where they nearly lost their whole language let alone writing and the resourc thing is due to their environmentalism. I wouldn't worry about the no writers though because their ub will be insane for both religion and culture victories
@@Jotunn96 culture victory Maori Hardmode 👍
1:42 wait, do jungle tiles now give a penalty to loyalty?
0:55 Bionicle? Xd
Love the soundtrack so far for this civ. The music’s an interesting mix of powerful and calming.
WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT YOU'RE WELCOME
Holy shit...this Civ is amazing! I don’t often see things and think “broken” before I play but they have bonuses in EVERY outcome of the game! I love it
What a beast of a man
A good little thing I noticed is the palace gives 3 housing, the same as a river or lake. This allows Maori to ignore fresh water bonuses when settling the capital. Only downside is that they have melee units which will most likely only be used for coastal cities, so they've lost some potential
Chur my Maori 🤙🏾
kia ora
Chur Ehoa Yozah✊🏾
Everyone: I think this civ will definitely be relevant for my strategies in the current meta
Me: Reloads the video constantly just for their amazing soundtrack
For those who don't know Hawaiki is the actual island of Raiatea where the marae Taputapuate'a is. It's the point 0 of the polynesian cultural.
Nope. That was actually point 1, point 0 is yet to be confirmed.
This is up for debate since literally every Island in Polynesia has an island or place related to the name 'Hawaiki'
i love the way designers have chosen. it's a little step towards changing civilization series to better but an important one
BIONICLE CONFIRMED
Another Hafu original
"All the languages in this game are fictitious, right?" - Joshua Tomar, 2022
oh yeah yeah
Oh man they have such a brutally good early game. And that amphitheater faith bonus makes for great endgame national park building for tourism.
This civ is so overpowered.
@Hoàng Nguyên...Agree bud!
Norway: I'm one of the best naval civs and no one can stand against my coastal raids!
Kupe: Allow us to introduce ourselves.
Looks like a Much better Norway with that ability. Can you guys redo Norway they are so weak
Wow...looks like my new favourite island map civ! But the bonuses to forests and rainforests and the unique Amphitheatre would be pretty solid on Pangaea as well.
Stupid question but was this guy real or a legendary ancestor character?
Legendary ancestor, no knows the names of the first people
Probably a real person who's true story was lost to time.
Not stupid at all as so-called "Academics" can't even answer that question for you lol
Drew Bakka
He’s like Gilgamesh
He's a legendary figure. We only have oral tradition to go on, which isn't 100% reliable. It's possible Kupe is based on a real person whose true story is lost to time. Archaeology is limited mostly to earthworks and middens, so piecing things together is extremely tough. New Zealand has no historical records until Abel Tasman visited in 1642, and after the voyages of Cook our history becomes much better recorded.
I think this is the first comments section that has been almost entirely wholesome for Civ 6. I'm excited for this civ!
I just need to get around to actually buying this thing.
love it
The first Civ post launch that Im genuinely looking forward to play. More Civs need things that alters the game on a deeper level than just "+1 food" stuff.
Whose the toughest gang in the whole city? The Maoris. Thats right the Maoris. Good shit firaxis.
Them starting in the ocean is actually really cool. Nice job Civ 6 team!
