    Two great ideas in ur video; the different way you tied two jigs onto one leader and the swim noodle way to store the jigs. EXCELLENT!

    I use the exact same thing here in Texas and the flounder can't resist it. I typically have great luck with the Chartreuse 4" Swimming Mullet, though I often try different colors. During the flounder run in October-November, they'll hit on anything. Tandem-rigged is the way to go with flounder.

      +Texas Coastal Sportsman when Scott tied the loop knot for the swivel. Do you add the swivel to the rig or do attach the rig to the main line that has the swivel attached?

    • @brianharvey351
      @brianharvey351 8 років тому

      I think it depends on what he's referring to as a swivel. If he's talking about what I would call a regular swivel, I could see just putting the swivel on your rig and have it already on the loop of the rig; then you'd just tie the swivel to your main line. If you went this route you'd have to make your rig with the swivel on there and it would never come off. If he's referring to a quick connect type swivel, then you'd leave it on your main line and just snap your loop onto it when you want to use that specific rig.

      My boat is a 25' C-Hawk Pilothouse called VENATOR. Holler if you see us out! We had a cobia hit your rig at 3rd island last weekend on a small flounder/bass spinning rod my buddy was holding....tore it to pieces and gone quickly....Shortly afterward one (possibly the same one) hit my heavier spinning rod that I was jigging a bucktail with curlytail grub. Fought it about 5 mins before it threw the hook. I'm 0 for about 6 on Cobia this year so far. Flounder picking up though.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  4 роки тому

      Steve Z As light as you can to keep it close to vertical. If you are casting in skinny water, probably about 3/8 and a gulp would be fine and just bounce along the bottom. We usually use 1 - 3oz depending on the drift and depth.

    new to flounder fishing - spent most of my childhood using downriggers to salmon fish Lake Michigan, and I look forward to using this method in the bay near Ocean City, New Jersey when I retire there. Question - is this rig paired with anything else on the line? You mentioned a four inch mullet - is that a bait you add to this? Do you add any weight to the line as well? I am assuming that the rig as is wouldn't sink and stay at the bottom, but maybe I am wrong?

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  4 роки тому

      Patrick Fitzpatrick It will get down unless your current is really strong. Gulp 4" swimming mullet is a soft plastic like bait you find at a tackle store.

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  9 років тому +1

      riley633 I'm sure you can, but keep in mind Flounder are sight feeders mostly. I don't know if I'm right or not about them getting tackle shy, but I think any edge you can get helps you catch more fish. I would stick with flourocarbon for the actual rig. If you are going to go with a superbraid, keep it thin and an green so as not to stand out too much. I think FC is worth the little extra $ for the rig, and yeah you might loose a few more on snags, but I really think you'll catch more fish.

    I have fished on a big headboat out of Maryland about 20 miles off the coast (near or over 100 feet of water in most spots), where we used 8 ounce sinkers and it wasn't even rough out. Briefly, how would that need for a sinker affect this setup? I want to be able to have tackle to accommodate this type of situation if I need 8 ounces again, and do NOT want to use their setup of bare hook with bait. Thanks

    • @scottnra
      @scottnra  8 років тому

      +dmger14 We've done it plenty like that. Using a dropper rig with a sinker to hold in fast current and about a 10' leader to a lighter jig. no problem, works great. Use enough weight to stay near vertical and you'll hang up less.
