My husband took the boat out today to fish for fluke in the Raritan Bay and sent me your link just now sand i knew you instantly! I graduated from Newfield High School in 1984 and had you for Chemistry. Nice to see you online, hope you are doing well! Take Care and Stay Safe, Estelle (Volpe) Mitzen.
I haven't used circle hooks on anything but bass, I have used the o'Shaunessy hooks for bigger fluke 6.0 work great, but I'm switching up next time .that was a great lesson
Yeah, it's funny how they shoved the circle hooks down the recreational fisherman's throat with the striped bass, now the fluke, but comerial fleet is still using 14in. drag net killing more fluke in one year than any public boat does in 5yrs.
I always english hooks with a weight as kid 50 years ago ,they are a form of circle hook anyway and used J hooks since but I'm willing to go back try these
Good evening Capt. Al. My name is Al. Im a member of a local fishing club that you have been a guest speaker. I've fished with bucktails for many years and have tied them several different ways with good results. I like this setup alot. Im definitely going to tie some of these rigs and give em a go. I would like to know what size circle hookyou use for this rig. I think 2/0 hooks may be too small for fluke. Great videos by the way. Thankyou for making us better fishermen. 🎣
Thanks Capt Al. I fish for flounder in the bays along the upper TX coast. I just don't like the traditional tandem rigs we normally use here. Can't wait to try this bucktail rig.
Great video. Direct. Short and simple. I'll be using this set up later this week. I usually use the pre made rigs made of metal. But. If you lose rigs the money can add up. I guess making your own rigs can be more cost effective and allow you to feel the bite a lot better. Anyways thanks again appreciate all tips and tricks from other fishermen.
I don't like the idea of having a circle and a conventional hook on the same rig, but I'm sure that's personal preference as I can use the same hook for both. I think would struggle with set the hook or not if I used two different hooks, but thanks for the post. nice rig.
That rig is similar to mine except I don't use a true turn 3way swivel just 2 barrel swivels one on jig that slides on the main line that hits the other swivel protected by a bead for the longer trailing leader but lost a ton of fluke on circle hooks only octopus hooks circle hooks are more design for round fish not flat fish mouths
Hello Capt. Sir.. one question .. Can we USe these plastic lure at Sea salt water ( i usualy go for fishing at night time). Will it work at night time?
Hello Capt. Al...greetings from Peru... I have seen many videos where you catch Flounder with this kind of rigs in the USA. I know you use them from a boat, but I have a question for you... Have you ever try this rig fishing from the shore?? like surfcasting with a spinning rod? I ask you this, because when I go for flounders down here, I do standing in the shores with the waves up to my chest. Thanks for your tips... in case you want and have time, I invite you to watch my channel to learn about my fishing style and some homemade lures I do.... thanks, Antonio
Thank you Khmets...you are right , I watched a video in John's channel... the weird thing, is that I haven't seen any angler here using it for Flounders. I will try it. Thanks.
No one uses circle hooks for fluke fishing. Circle hooks are meant for fish that eat and aggressively swim away. Fluke eat and will swim with your bait. Especially with a buck tail that has a J hook on the bottom there’s no way to ever tell when to set the hook or not to. Use bucktail or bucktail and J hook and set the hook. I’ve NEVER gut hooked a fluke with a bucktail rig.
What the Tarantino is a fluke??? Flatty flounder yep, fluke?we don't have accidentally catch fish in Texas, and treble hooks are for children gutting a fish is irresponsible

Glad to see you still around Al. Your early videos taught me how to throw a cast net. Thanks man!
This video is the best!! You explain it so well and short too compared to everyone else on UA-cam in my opinion. Thank you so much for this video
I have fished here and there my whole life, but lately I've really been taking an interest in it. Thanks for this video👍
works great caught 3 flounder and 1 trout in about 35min
Awesome. Just made 4 of them. Come on Spring!!!

Excellent, informative and well presented video. Suggestion: Wear a dark colored shirt so that we may better see your knot tying. Thanks
Great rig captain 👍

Judt make a high low rig with dropper loops

Great instrcutional video. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome information. Thanks so much!
You are the man, awesome video capt. Al ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎣
I'm left with no idea what that rig looks like. A little diagram would've helped. And I'm wondering what is going to stop that from tangling. oh well.
the swivel stops the tangle and setting up the bait like gulp requires the "line" on the bait in line with hook tail up or it spins
Thank you for sharing 👍
Enjoy this video so much thank you!
Why trilene on one side and imprived clintch on the other? Same pressure on both ends? Do u add gulp on your bucktail too?
Thanks so much..... Great insider direction...

Can i surfcast with this set up or will it get tangled in the cast ..?
Yes you can surf cast with this rig. The T-turn swivel will help eliminate any line twist.
thank you for sharing
Do you sell these already tied. I'm not that great at it. Going up Ny in July and would love to try 4-6 of them
Being beginner I would have liked to see you bait that circle hook.
Baiting a circle hook isn't difficult ... just saying!
What size circle hook is best for keeper fish?
Seems like a uni knot would work as well and easier to tie

You can just use a dropper loop
That's what I have done for decades. It works very well for me.

@@billhill4929 well said sir! I think many over think fishing and forget the tried and true basics!

You really need to wear a dark colored shirt ….. it would be much easier to see what you’re doing
that is nothing new.
Lol ... promotes circle hooks but shows a J hook !!! Lmao smh
what size is the circle hook ? and also the 3 way what size is that you used?
well done Captain.
