What really sucks is that the mother DID try to seek professional help several times, but mental healthcare is poorly organised, overwhelmed and rarely efficient with complex cases. How or why she allowed him to purchase a gun in front of her is beyond me, though.
i think it might’ve been difficult to say no or refuse brandon at that time due to a fear for her life or that he might’ve snapped if she said no and did something worse anyway, it’s kinda a lose-lose situation
@@aster_01718 you said that a lot better then I did, 60% of cases I feel are misdiagnosed because they do the opposite of what they need to be doing, I.e. cases where the parents are the problem they keep them together/ in cases where the parent is the last link they separate them
@@shannenlibres2365 I have good parents, but my sister and her husband are just shitty parents. Shitty people in general. And my niece has to go through not the same thing as you, but having her dad tell her he’s going to kill himself when she turns 18. He says it on her birthdays. She’s 8. So I’m really really sorry you had to deal with mental issues without help. I sympathize with that.
The mother knew all the issues and drove him to a gun store, fearing he would commit suicide and allowed him to purchase a firearm.... I think the mother might be a major factor to the issue.
She also fought to have her son examined.. Bare in mind he was a legal adult when he purchased the gun, there was no stopping him. All she could do was oversee. She fought a lot more than most parents of these "failed" kids. Super insensitive.
Hello, i am Amber...the same Amber you hear in this video saying "I want to go home" to the 911 dispatcher. I was one of the first ones to reach a 911 dispatcher and stayed on the phone with her the whole time until police came in and got us. I hope none of you have to go through this, and I want to thank you all for remembering us and those who passed. It's almost been 3 years, but it feels like it only happened yesterday. Keep being kind, and the memories of my fellow coworkers will never fade ♡♡♡
@openyathirdeye6894 well sadly I don't care about clout and seems I struck a nerve with you, but I am the one in the 911 call and that day was the worst day of my life. I worked everyday with Matt (he was linehaul) and I worked in the control room... pops was a wonderful man who always said hello to you. Sadly I didn't know the others because I switched from the twi shift to midnight. You don't have to believe me and I owe you nothing but maybe instead of judging someone immediately you can learn...I never knew about this video and apparently fedex didn't want us to know and other employees were told not to talk about it. I can share my whole story from that night but you are just a hateful soul on the internet so good luck with your life and I still hope you never have to go through something like this ever
@openyathirdeye6894 you don't have to believe me but maybe you shouldn't judge before actually knowing. I can tell you my whole side on that day, how it sounded like someone was banging on our windows when it first started, to me and my coworker hiding behind the desk that holds 10 monitors (some with cameras and others to use for sort), to me saying I didn't want to die and felt I was going to throw up to the dispatcher, then finally being taken outside, first going past the break room where I saw downed coworks, to standing outside surround by shell casings and seeing the inside of the small white car that held 2 more downed employees. Also seeing everyone that didnt make it laying outside...yea again I don't care about clout and I wanted to express my gratitude for the caring words everyone had. Nothing you say will hurt me cause I have seen death now sadly so please have a wonderful day thank you
I am truly baffled as to how this was allowed to happen in the first place. This person was reported to police repeatedly and showed several warning signs
You'd think when someone with numerous mental health issues and a history of violence confesses to an FBI agent that he is a danger to society he would be put on some kind of "do not sell this person a gun" list but I guess that's un-American.
Some of my mom's friends have a relative with severe mental health issues, she's messaged people claiming to be part of isis trying to recruit them and clearly could do something dangerous for herself and others. It's been reported, but until she actually does something, no one will step in. It's sickening and it's bullshit. And just my luck she has a delusion that I should have been her child since my dad took her to prom back in the day. 🥲 I've only met this lady a few times and block her profiles anytime I see them pop up.
His mom's literally responsible for this whole tragedy - first by getting rid of the father, then by ignoring the kid's inevitable mental problems from having no father figure because she'd drove him to suicide.
The system failed all of those people. Shout out to Judy for being so brave and getting all of those people hidden even when it was possible she would be shot. Just horrifying
The system isn't designed to work. The FBI and law enforcement drops the ball on these cases all the time. So many instances where people have reported red flag issues with actual merit and nothing substantive is done. This case is just one more of those. Wonder if he was on any anti-depressant drugs too? Those drugs make people go batshit over the deep end and need to be investigated just as much.
@@123451248ifybut why even take him there though? he was shown to be clearly mentally ill and given that he had to ask his mom to take him there, he had no other way to get it on his own
What angers me is that a lot of psychologists, etc. don't take things like this seriously, and then seem genuinely surprised that a tragedy like this takes place.
No no They took it seriously. But what are they supposed to do? In the USA you can only have your gun rights removed if a court order deems you mentally unfit. That is the sad case here
@@nsahandler Thats contentious Because male mental health in general is pretty ignored no matter how fucked up the individual is. Now the gun rights being removed by the courts is a thing however you could just refuse to help him buy a gun???
@@fate8718 he bought guns with the job he had obtained legally and the police had to release his weapons to him because the only thing that can keep a person from their firearms in the USA are criminal firearms charges that prevent ownership (felonies or domestic abuse convictions), pending criminal charges involving firearms themselves, restraining orders with firearms stipulated on them, and a court order ruling of mental instability. If you notice - 100% of these require a judge to sign an order to remove the guns. He called them, said he was better, and when they checked the only reasons he was allowed to keep his own firearms away from him they found none so they returned them. I'm not defending the mom, but what happened here was entirely inevitable. Like the Parkland shooter, he would have gotten a job long enough to buy a firearm and gone on the rampage in the same fashion. No hitches.
@@nsahandler Now the first paragraph while true isnt neccisarily what I argued You understand most, at least trauma ridden, killers do it mostly in the moment. The problem is the laws. Decades ago someone like that would have been locked up however back in the 70's they changed all the laws making it almost impossible to commit someone.
Ugh. "because of the company's no cell phone policy in certain areas of the building, some victims were unable to call for help" hits like a punch in the gut..
So fucked up story. I worked in an office for a company that had a strict no phones allowed policy for copyright reasons. It was so strict that it was a serious problem for some of the women in the office who needed to answer emergency family calls in rare scenarios. So one day a woman raised hell becuse that exact situation happened and it almost ended very poorly for her. She asked our direct manager this question “what happens if someone just bust in here shooting? We can’t even call for help!” The manager looked at her coldly and said “go back to your desk.” Sent chills down my spine, they 100% expected you to die in that scenario
@@GoodPersonTestWebsite If the company was democratically owned by the people who worked there, no stupid cell phone policy would exist. But instead it is owned by capitalists, who want to squeeze as much profit out of their workers as possible.
"I don't want to WASTE MY TIME doing something like that. ITS A HASSLE" This is a clear red flag. Brandon's first argument on that is not about humanity or the unthinkable, but he said he "has no time" or too lazy to do it. He doesn't understand morale and emotion, so he express his excuse with a logical explanation. A clear sign of sociopathic disorder
My brother said that exact same thing to me when he started a debate with me on how working conditions should stay as they are. Cause "its too much of a hassle to fix." That conversation left me so disturbed I had no idea what else to tell him so he proceeded to get annoyed by my silence and call me sensitive. I've been trying to go no-contact with him while sharing the same roof.
the fact his condition was so bad that he decided to kill multiple people including himself over applejack is shocking. The more shocking part is that nobody handled his condition properly.

Im never getting over the fact he took someone I loved today, I drove past that Fed-Ex even yesterday and it sent me into a panic. I wish he didnt do that
The second he attacked his mother with knives he should have immediately been taken away to a strict facility that works with kids like this. Depression, anxiety and My Little Pony don’t inherently cause people to be killers. He was clearly an unhinged individual with no respect for human life. He obviously didn’t take any of the valuable lessons from the show seriously because despite his obsession, he clearly needed help for other more serious mental reasons. It’s completely shameful what he did. A horrible tragedy.

This is insane. There were red flags EVERYWHERE. The mother and psychologists failed that kid. He literally f*cking told them he was a danger. Absolutely tragic. My heart goes to the victims and their families.
The mother seemed like she tried really hard to get him treatment and even turned him into police when it spiraled out of control.....but he was an adult by then, and at 18, he could buy a gun without her permission/control. It was the failure of the hospital and health professionals who assessed him for letting him go after a 2 hour hold.
They not only failed the kid but the victims. And the victims aren't just the people shot, but every witness, family member and first responder. Time to start locking up people who show signs instead of waiting until they destroy lives.
@kirakira I agree. Although it shouldn't be a set amount of time. Some of these people can't be cured. And if they are released on medication have some way of ensuring that they take it. I believe there's an increase in mental health issues and a decrease in mental health services. And some, even if it's available, unless they have insurance or a high paying job, it's unaffordable.
Wtf more could the mother have done short of sealing him in his room?? She took him to psychologists and doctors for years. She informed law enforcement multiple times and had them over a lot to check in on the situation. She was on top of things and making calls. She wouldn't have known what he said to the social worker about being a danger to society (those are one-on-one sessions). Some people are just beyond saving. They're just incurable and, at best, need to be institutionalized for theirs and everyone else's safety, but that wasn't the mother's call to make, especially once he turned 18.
This reminds me of a case at my school: the year aftee i graduated (2021), a 13 year old attacked a classmate with a knife. The boy was severely injured but thankfully, he survived and they managed to hold the attacker in the classroom until the police arrived. The judge basically told him "ur a bad boy dont do that again" Nothing happened. No prison since you cant go to prison wih 13 in germany, but also no psychatry or anything. 2 Weeks later he murdered a 12 year old in the woods with a knife. This could have been so easily prevented. The worst thing is, I heard of him being set free again and my friends and I were certain he would try to do it again but we couldnt do anything about it. It was so obvious something really bad was going to happen but the peole who could actually do something about it just didnt care. Its a lot more shocking to hear a story like this in germany because that stuff doesnt happen here so often (e.g. there were 8 school shootings in germany since its founding)

There was a guy who lived in a dorm across from me who was obsessed with My Little Pony. Less than two weeks into the freshman semester, he got rejected by a girl and promptly threatened to bomb our school. Needless to say he got booted out pretty quickly.

The murder wasn't over My Little Pony. He just so happened to like the show and obsessed over one of the characters, but that's probably caused by emotional neglect/abuse. It doesn't sound like his mom was all that great either. His mentioning of Applejack in the last post seems to be a clue of what brought him relief from the real world and once he felt like the thing he clung to most became unstable, he probably felt doomed and couldn't imagine life getting better without Applejack. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I think My Little Pony was the last thing keeping him 'sane' like the last thread holding a rope together before it snaps. For all we know, he could have found another character to obsess over or he could have snapped sooner if MLP Friendship Is Magic didn't exist.
Honestly, I think even if his mother was good to him, it's possible he would obsessively turn to fiction for an escape anyway. In my experience, it's very easy to grow tired of, and/or unempathetic toward the people around you when you're mentally ill, even resent them somewhat, if they try to help you but are unable to.
Does nobody think that a kid wearing 3 pairs of shorts at a time might have been sexually abused? That's pretty common knowledge that kids that feel the need to layer like that tend to have someone around them usually at home that is abusing them...
I am disappointed that I did not think of this, it seems so obvious once it is pointed out. Perhaps the whole my little pony thing into adulthood is also an indicator.
It depends on where. When I lived in Fort Worth, Texas, there was a small community of Irish gypsies and they'd make their kids drop out at 4th grade to join the family roofing business. I know this because my mom was an elementary school teacher
its pretty easy to get away with. i just stopped showing up to school in 7th grade. my mom didn't register me for homeschool. i'm nearly 18 now and theres been no legal inquiry or anything
That is the most RAW thing to hear from a mother. "I grieve the victims more than I will EVER grieve you." Edit: Coming back, respect for the responder that stayed for the woman saying 'Please don't leave me..' I've seen a lot of awful responders, so that's a bit refreshing.
whole thing literally her fault. told her husband to go ahead and kill himself... and absolutely ignored blatant red flags from her son. took him to buy a gun?? what an idiot. cmon sheila
I don't want to say I BLAME the mother, but every quote from her is snarky and sarcastic towards him, and she very clearly let some major red flags go by. The fact that it ended with the "I won't even grieve you" quote shows that he definitely didn't have a great supportive environment.
Yup poor severly mentally ill kid bullied into insanity by his own mother who was probably also very ill and deffff his dad like Jesus christ its just such a mess
From experience, I can say two things: 1) He was misdiagnosed with OCD when it should have been Autism Spectrum Disorder (or he should have at least been tested for it - mom likely didn’t consent to this, mine didn’t for a long time and acts exactly like his mom). I’ve got a degree in psych and I’m on the spectrum (diagnosed), he shares MANY of my young traits/symptoms. The abusive environment definitely permanently changed that poor boy. 2) Again, from experience both in life and educationally, multiple layers of clothing at a young age (or at any age) coincides with both the spectrum and with S.A. I still wear layers upon layers - it does not leave you. This is a safety coping mechanism, and is common in S.A. survivors. A third stretch, from experience - it feels like this psychologist worked with the mother to identify symptoms and behaviors, and then checked in with the boy to “verify” them. This often results in not directly observing the behaviors discussed and therefore receiving inaccurate pictures that the parent paints based on their observation of the child. This is something we deliberately work to avoid in my field of psych, as we consider it a logical fault that leads to misdiagnoses with children.
Hi, I’m also diagnosed with ASD (and GAD and depression just like Brandon,) and unfortunately I thought the same thing. What was described in this video, it sounded a lot like autism, which makes me sad simply because of how people treat mental disorders in general. While his situation in life breaks my heart, his actions have consequences and it’s very common for people to listen to these stories and form uninformed opinions about mental disorders. I’m not a professional, no degree, but having it myself and having a brother who’s lower functioning than I am (he has anger issues and takes meds that coincide with schizophrenia care,) I immediately felt that sense of familiarity. Honestly, I wish the narrator went more into why he wore more layers, because while I figured that was an autistic thing to do, I didn’t make the connection that that’s also something SA survivors do, too. But nowhere in the video does it say that he was SA? Though with the things his mom says in this video, according to this video alone, she sounds like someone who would either commit an act like that or know someone who would and keep it hush hush. I wonder if that’s why she was fine with her ex taking his own life. THAT BEING SAID, I really do try to stay away from making accusations since people are way more nuanced than that. What I said is a personal inference but I don’t know Sheila and so I can’t say for certain about her role in Brandon’s case. People say stupid shit when they’re hurting, maybe Sheila didn’t realize her words would result in her ex actually doing it? And she almost became a victim herself. I don’t know, the video did make it seem like she tried to fight for her son to get the help he needed but the system failed them. Which doesn’t surprise me, save for frustration. The TL;DR of this comment is basically, I wish the mental health system in America would be better about it. And that more people are thoroughly educated on these things. My mom is a very loving person, but I tell her that my brother struggles to comprehend nuances in the moment and she defies it by saying that we may be autistic but we’re smart and have intelligence. Even well meaning people can screw up, and it’s all from lack of understanding. Education would seriously help… and boy do we got a long way ahead for that. I hope the victims of this case rest in peace.
As someone with anxiety, depression, and who likes My Little Pony (it was a childhood thing that stuck + I'm also autistic and it's one of my special interests), I **swear to god** we aren't all like this. 😭 This guy had further issues and depression, anxiety, OCD, liking MLP or other childish things, ect., does NOT mean they were direct causes in his psychotic tendancies. Yes, they played their own roles in this chillng story, but the red flags that showed up had more to do with destructive behaviour and not getting proper help. I understand why he'd be attached to these characters, but it's batcrap cazy that he would kill over fictional ponies. And as crazy as it might be to hear this, Apple Jack would jave been heart broken to hear something like this would happen over her, and she's not even real. MLP is a show about colourful ponies learning about friendship, this boy was just psychotic and happened to like it. Special interests and mental health DO NOT EQUAL murderer in the making. Sorry for the rant, I just find it really important for this to be known, because alot of things like this are more due to the system failing people when they were younger, abuse and bullying, while alot of people just see "oh, obsessed with My Little Pony?" and run away with the take of "OFC he'd be crazy bc he likes a show for kids". Keep an open mind and look for real issues and injustices in the kids' life. Be good people.
Absolutely! Not everyone who likes cartoons as an adult is psychotic. Anyone can be psychotic. It's not a matter of your hobbies, it's a matter of your brain chemistry/personality

Not surprising after telling her husband to go ahead and kill himself.... I wonder if both, the father and the son were psychologically damaged by her.
I was just thinking that how if i was in her situation i really wouldn't wanna hang up and wait alone under a trailer for 30 minutes, and would appreciate if someone stayed on the line with me too. That's a good dispatcher
Any grown man who has an obsession with a TV show for little girls is not mentally normal. Might not be a depraved killer, but something is not right up there with any of them. Would you trust a "brony" alone with your kid?
Thank you. God it's weird how badly people want to demonize a kids show just bc a few bad people happened to like it. Still, I will never understand how people like this can like a show that's all about friendship and kindness 😅
His mother's response of go ahead, to his father's threat of offing himself, was his first exposure to having indifference to human life. Great example.
That’s the kind of thing you say when a person has a history of threatening to kill themselves to manipulate you. He’d probably threatened dozens of times before, and she was fed up with it.
Not the best take. As the comment above said, if someone constantly threatens to kill themselves if you leave them, they're manipulating you. Imagine having to stay with someone you no longer want to be with because of the fear they might off themselves and, because that person has manipulated you, you'd think you are at fault. We don't know if the father had done this before, but the mother saying "go ahead" could be a sign that he had been saying it for a while and she was just tired of hearing it.

It's super normal for autistic people to have special interests. So, for me, that part of the video just paints autistic traits and autiwtic people as malevolent or "red flags". Didnt leave a good taste... (also, jic, I am autistic with a bunch of special interests lol)
When I started this video and EWU spoke of "a strange obsession with a kid's cartoon as a teenager" as well as "weird rocking back and forth", I knew immediately he was autistic. And I hate that these kinds of special interests are regarded as obvious signs somebody is a murderer.
@@drumdaynight17 Allistic people "raise eyebrows" over people with special interests all the time, many of those being autistic people. As long as it doesn't harm anyone, it'd be better for everyone to not make it into a big deal.
This case is pretty similar to Randy Stair, a UA-camr who had an obsession of the character Ember McLain from Danny Phantom. He believed that he was a ghost girl trapped in a boy's body and because of his delusions he shot up a grocery store and then himself so that he could "be with her in the afterlife." Both cases are extremely tragic all around.

@@awkwardautistic I’m not sure about the laws pertaining to mental illness where he lives. However, I would think when he was taken to the mental health hospital, they should of took the time to keep him there for observation and then properly diagnose him. They also should of prescribed some medication. Let’s start there. But when he said he is a danger to society and himself, game changer for sure. Brandon should of been admitted to a facility asap. And tbh before he turned 18 when he was threatening, bullying and slapping his mom, chasing her with knives and sh*t. He should of been properly evaluated and placed in a facility then. And put on probation for what he did. I know he did a lot and was dangerous as hell. But believe me it was because of a reason. I believe it started with dad’s s*icide, I believe additional things either in the home or school. Most likely home. Combined with mental illness. Brandon could have possibly been helped. The hung mannequin in his closet broke my heart. That kid was broken early on. My mother was murdered when I was 4 years old. I remember holding it all in, no tears, no pain, just nothin. When I turned 17 I received all her last belongings. Her diary, drawings, ideas and dreams, pictures, highschool yearbook, a watch with a scrape on it from a bullet that went through her hand, many letters about how much she loved me and wanted to live to watch me grow. I cried my eyes out for the first time, it felt like all the crying I should've done throughout those years I let out like a floodgate that day.. stuff like this can really break growing minds.. when I found out she was dead I remember my first reaction being to hide under my bed, I didn't want to see anyone.
Exactly it's like, isn't the main lesson to be friendly and kind and that friendship is one of the most valuable things in life? One has to wonder how that leads someone like this kid to murder, it feels disingenuous for them to blame any amount on his obsession with the show and not all the clear other issues and possibly some unclear/unstated issues with his general home life
I started to tear up hearing the 911 calls and how scared those callers were. I cannot even begin to imagine how terrifying that situation is. This is heart breaking.
I just wanted to applaud the worker Judy since no one is mentioning her. She helped direct her coworkers to get them out while he was firing into it through the turnstile and she also stayed herself and offered to direct the police inside to make it faster for them to look. She had no way of knowing he had ended himself, for all she knew he was there and she hadn't seen an officer yet. The relief of her realizing the approaching figure was an officer and not the shooter was a really emotional moment for me.
I don't care how much the mother tried to help, she drove him to the gun store despite knowing he had incredibly violent urges, numerous mental disorders, and had an obsession with mass shootings. The fact that there was even a red flag on the way there should have been a wake-up call.
How is nobody talking about how he was obsessed with a very friendly show my little pony yet still had this anger in him. It’s kind of ironic. His room is about my little pony. Friendship is magic yet he’s out here thinking about violence the show has nothing about violence. In fact, show you how to be nice and to always communicate your feelings when you’re mad or sad!
There's a scene in My Little Pony: The Movie where they use a dragon as a flamethrower to burn alive a bunch of enemies. I have a clip titled "My Little War Criminals" with the scene in question. So, yeah, friendship is magic. And so are flamethrowers, I guess.
Because of how stigmatized watching MLP is or just having autism in general, he probably got bullied and had trouble finding healthy and like-minded people to share his interests with, instead turning to 4chan and other communities where neo-nazis prey on frustrated young men who feel victimized and angry at the world. There's a disturbingly large crossover area between MLP and fascist gun nuts
Natasha's "please don't leave me" really broke my heart. Hearing 911 calls makes these cases so much more real you can just feel the fear. Absolutely devastating, I hope all the victims rest in peace and for the ones who survived this event I hope they can mentally recover and still live out their dreams and aspirations

The kid turned to his mother, the police, psychiatrists, and the only comfort he had was a dumb cartoon. To someone feeling mentally alone, a feel good children's cartoon might have been all he had. I think his April message, as strange as it is, is genuine.

I know forsure that if the cartoon ponys in that show where replaced by live action humans their kindness and good nature wouldnt feel magical anymore it would just feel false and untrue. Its the same reason why people feel more empathy towards stray dogs than homeless people. "Animals are good, humans are bad" mentality. For fans of this type of show, the point is to forget that its even a show and instead be "transported" into another, better world. These worlds are usualy ruled by kindness and friendship unlike our world which is ruled by fear and exploitation. People learn from their respective worlds, the ponies learn kindness is real and the people who watch the show only believe so in the context of the show, not the real world, thus making the moral lessons meaningless. The misstreatment and isolation causes this detachment from humanity and love for inhuman characters. Same reason anthro characters are popular. BASICLY: The show is popular with outcast becouse it presents a belivable "other world" where people are friendly and care for others. It is the perfect escape from reality. The moral lessons are only belivable in the cartoon, not in real life, thought.

When the dispatcher asked if she wanted her to stay on the line with the caller, good thing she said yes, it was an hour before the found her. I am sure that was the longest hour of her life after the shooting.
This kid has shown so many signs. He's even verbalized his own fights with his mental state and how it affected is personal life as well. He clung on to a figure that gave him comfort during his own battle and after it was ripped away he still gave warning. Maybe as a cry for help in his own way. I don't sympathize with him, I pity him. And I don't like how his specialists, detectives, and parents just ignored it... No one was innocent in this aside from the victims.
True, he was litteraly crying for help, but they kept ignoring it. He probably felt alone and hopeless, it make me mad how most of this could have been prevented with therapy and not isolating him.
He really needed lots of help and therapy! And would have needed only one person who would been interested to know him and direct his life. He clearly had lots of mental health problems which could been genetic. It would been a struggle for rest of his life to stay ok.
My sister adopted a child who would later show signs of mental illness. You could tell from the start (she was a newborn when they got her), but you could tell pretty quickly something was off with her...I mean like within the first 2 years. Despite her reaching out to everybody and anybody...they gave her no help...including the police, social services, the hospital and the psyche ward. She tried to kill my sister and her husband on multiple occasions. There is no help for those in need when facing a child who is mentally out of control or at least not in PA. She was finally diagnosed with Bipolar (age 20) and lives with her biological mother, who also has bipolar. The funny thing is we found out they knew she had bipolar, but didn't want to label her at such a young age...so no medicine and no help! Unreal!
I never realized MLP killed off characters, I always thought it was a kid's show but older people watched it as their comfort show *because* almost nothing bad happens So apparently part of the what prompted Brandon to snap was because Applejack dies in the show and it was like the childhood he never had and then it was destroyed? I'm not excusing Brandon at all or blaming the showwriters, but just trying to understand what Brandon's mentality was through these events
Samaria Blackwell was one of the victims who didn’t make it. This case brought tears to my eyes. Hearing all those people calling dispatch you can hear the terror in their voices. I'm literally crying. I wish people would just try a little harder to get help for those who desperately need it. Ofc you cant force anyone to make the change. That comes from within, but more extensive external help might have resulted in a different outcome. This is just heart breaking.
The main people responsible here are the cops/authorities/psychiatrists. The dude should have been institutionalized, barred from buying guns and the ones he already had should have been seized. Maybe the mother is an evil witch, maybe Brandon was f**ked in the head from the start but it's literally the authorities/mental health professionals' JOBS to prevent this and then did NOTHING. Is it sad to say how refreshing/rare it is to hear a dispatcher provide comfort and warmth? So many of these true crime stories you hear dispatchers just bring absolute dillholes to the point that I am now afraid to call one if I need to. I'm glad to hear this small hopeful detail in such a sad case
Year agreed I live in Ireland and watch videos where these dispatchers make me so angry,it’s like they’re thinking ah fk it I’ll be finished work in an hour let’s just get this call over with Should be a major rethink of how they’re trained
They're EMERGENCY dispatchers, not your security blankets. THeir job is to asses the situation, determine weather there is an emergency and what type of emergency as to send the proper service to the location (another thing they need to learn before hand). Depending on the time of day, your average dispatcher has been exposed to such lovely calls including but not limited to: children calling for help after a parent is injured and unresponsive, domestic disputes (often ongoing during the time of the call), various medical emergencies involving scared panicking people, or just plain old dumb shit, all the while they have more calls on the line. Day after day, after day. If you are hesitant to call emergency services because you're afraid somebody is not gonna kiss your booboo and tell you everything is going to be alright then you simply aren't having an emergency. When our car crashed and my mother now had a brand new joint between her elbow and her her shoulder, i was relieve when i got into a spot that had a signal. I didn't care about the tone the rando on the other side of the call answered. When my father had a heart attack, the only glimmer of hope my, at the time, 10 year old ass had was a quick response and the ambulance that arrived in a few minutes. One of the nurses that was present at the time, that now works with me, told me that she is sorry that they lost sight of me when that happened. Who cares? THey came to try and save my father's life, wasting time on me would have only decreased their already slim chances of bringing him back. You're afraid of calling "dillholes" who work as a connection between people in need and on site crews who're supposed to help them? Pray to whatever god you think might be listening so nothing bad actually happens to you because we both know you wouldn't be able to take it.
It appears the mother is the actual red flag. She basically let her husband kill himself, then she took her son to buy a gun, knowing of all his problems. Seems like she was hoping he would also kill himself. She probably abused him too, hence the three pairs of shorts and his obsession with MLP.
The fact that so called note about his murderous rampage wants to be reunited about a Texan fictional pony and his name wow Brandon hole yeah his breath is the cause of pollution he looks like a guy who overstock on all kinds of jars and creates a disgusting collection

His mom seemed clueless, so it was probably a kindergarten teacher touching him, taking advantage of his vulnerable nature with no father. Since he only started *after* seeing his dad hang himself
So between the mother telling her suicidal husband to go kill himself and her weirdly distant attitude towards her son makes me believe good ol' mommy isn't nearly as innocent as she's tryin to come over. She bought him a gun despite 'fearing he might hurt himself', if I'd be a betting man I'd wager that was exactly what she wanted to happen. And when he did something else/worse her response was 'I only cry for the victims now'. How cool of her to so easily discard her relationship with her son when it became too much of a hassle, blaming his suicidal father(which she drove to his grave) for all of his issues. She should just stop acting and tell us she only cries, as she might've always done, for herself.
💯 The profound affect the suicide of a father can have on a child, especially a son, can’t be understated. The mother wants to be viewed as someone who cared, but the people she should’ve been caring for BOTH a committed suicide, and one killed multiple people. He didn’t pick that narcissism up from his father at 4 years old. I know the effects suicide can have on a person, and stories like this make me solid in my stance to always strive and prosper, no matter the bad circumstances. Your children need to see you are able to get up despite the hardship.
The only thing I disagree with in this is the “mother driving the father to suicide”, you can’t make someone commit, that was his decision and her saying to do it definitely wasn’t the only factor. Everything else I 100% agree with. She was a horrible mother.
RIGHT?? Bad enough that the father killed himself, but to be irresponsible and ignorant about her child's wellbeing and straight up buying a GUN after she stated she was worried about him is just so... contradictory and hella stupid.
I can't even imagine being a dispatcher. The worst thing in the world happening on the caller's side and you're the very lifeline and anchor from the trauma
Just a note for the operators who stayed on the phone with those poor people. Especially the operator who stayed with Natasha, and the police man who said "come here baby" when he found her. The fear of dealing with this horrific situation, and still the humanity shines through.
I agree..so often we hear dispatchers with no compassion or they need more training but they really helped people feel somewhat protected and calmer until help arrived.
As someone going into social work, particularly mental health, it never ceases to amaze me how horrible the system is, red flags ignored, releasing people who are potentially dangerous, not allowing people to get the treatment they need, and general laziness by the system. I don't understand how stuff like this isn't seen as treatable and preventable.
Well, let's hope you don't become as callous and lazy as the majority of social workers seem to become. As it stands, most people know that the job of social workers is to keep children out of homes that are actually good for them, return children to homes that abuse and kill them, and accept compensation to place children in the care of pedophiles. You have a hard road ahead of you; one that breaks down the moral walls of many that got into the field to help children, at first.
@@cagephillips1916 That’s incorrect. People with severe conditions need medication, particularly psychotic state or manic state disorders, or they could be dangerous to themselves or others. I’m a firm believer medication isn’t for everyone but for some people it’s needed. The meds aren’t perfect obviously, but without the meds they’re more likely to be dangerous. And not everyone with these disorders are dangerous to begin with, as it is individual dependant.
It’s crazy how people become mass shooters, and what deviates people away from it. I was a recluse from society as a teenager, and felt much of the same as Brandon did; depressed, a loner, feelings of rejection and anger at this rejection, and I wanted to hurt people. But I NEVER actually attempted to ACT on these thoughts. What made me different from Brandon? This is why I received my degree in psychology, because I was just so interested in learning why.
I mean. While the psyche degree is nice, the only real thing that keeps people from doing it is either morals or fear of consequence, or both. Some people just snap, some don’t have a conscience/lose their conscience. I went through a lot and personally I can’t even relate to wanting to commit violence. If anything I just wanted them to feel bad for what they did
i had a pretty identical life too and what stopped me was pretty much that i loved my parents (who tried their best at giving me the best life they could, although they often failed) and i didn't want to burden them with the consequences of my actions. probably would've been different if they hadnt been loving parents
I actually had a very similar childhood to this man, crazy to see how different our lives ended up. My father killed himself in nearly the exact same way. My parents had an argument, he said if she left he would kill himself, she left with us and came back to him dead in the backyard having hung himself. I was only 2 years old at the time so it didnt affect me much and I grew up with a single mother for the rest of my life. I think the instance that his “odd behaviors” had to do with the fact that he murdered people is incredibly dangerous. If someone murders someone, it’s because they didn’t value human life. It’s not because of their autistic/ocd traits. Experiencing any of those symptoms on their own is not going to drive someone to kill. It’s how people choose to react to those experiences that defines a person. Saying that innocuous behaviors like ROCKING BACK AND FOURTH is a sign that someone is going to MURDER PEOPLE is absolutely insane and clearly fueled by prejudice. If someone does something evil, it’s because they chose to. It’s not because they’re an incomprehensible animal in a lab to be studied. Don’t take strange but harmless behaviors to be a sign of dangerousness, because you’re going to end up hurting a lot of innocent people. Don’t perpetuate ideas that people who are part of a minority are more dangerous than those of the majority, because that’s when you get hate crimes.
Yeah, but most reasonable people see it as a red flag. If my adult daughter came home with a a man who's really into my little pony I would tell her to keep an eye on his behavior.
@Kevin-tr8bx would you feel the same if he were into slasher films that depict women being brutally murdered? What about football, where men are being brain damaged in real time on TV for fun and profit? Are those normal interests, but enjoying a wholesome show about friendship is a "red flag"?
the difference for me lies in things being age appropriate. Sports are a masculine interest across all age groups, but my little pony is aimed at little kids. So if an adult man enjoys that kind of entertainment, I would immediately assume there is some severe developmental delay at play, and as with teenagers who often have anger/impulsivity issues due to the different developmental stages conflicting inside them, I would attribute similar traits to an adult watching something that is clearly aimed ar toddlers. Did you know that 2yo males are the most violent demographic out there? Well…

No wonder the father killed himself.
Yup poor severly mentally ill kid bullied into insanity by his own mother who was probably also very ill and deffff his dad like Jesus christ its just such a mess
From experience, I can say two things:
1) He was misdiagnosed with OCD when it should have been Autism Spectrum Disorder (or he should have at least been tested for it - mom likely didn’t consent to this, mine didn’t for a long time and acts exactly like his mom).
Asd and ocd can be comorbid. Sounds like both to me
You’re a narcissist
I felt like he had several symptoms of Autism, too.
I have been diagnosed with both Autism and OCD. I think it could have been possible that he had both.

So many of these true crime stories you hear dispatchers just bring absolute dillholes to the point that I am now afraid to call one if I need to. I'm glad to hear this small hopeful detail in such a sad case
Doesnt matter the cops took so long. Theyre only afraid for their own lives.
Year agreed I live in Ireland and watch videos where these dispatchers make me so angry,it’s like they’re thinking ah fk it I’ll be finished work in an hour let’s just get this call over with
Should be a major rethink of how they’re trained
@Mike Oxlong hi please get some help for the mental health crisis my comment clearly caused you

Wearing three pairs of shorts at a young age should have been a RedFlag to the mother, thats usually a result of SA.
Yes. It's an OCD sign but it's also a red flag for that and it doesn't sound like he ever got attention for whatever caused that.
It appears the mother is the actual red flag. She basically let her husband kill himself, then she took her son to buy a gun, knowing of all his problems. Seems like she was hoping he would also kill himself. She probably abused him too, hence the three pairs of shorts and his obsession with MLP.

Word

Hats off to those dispatchers. The right amount of empathy and sense of urgency. What a troubling story.
Those clowns over in Uvalde could learn a thing or two there.

We see the best in people at the worst times
Spot on!
I agree..so often we hear dispatchers with no compassion or they need more training but they really helped people feel somewhat protected and calmer until help arrived.
The officer was then fired for sexual harassment.
More tax cuts!!
Sorry to break it to you, but providing actual care to the mentally ill is soshulizm!
We should rlly open back the asylums. Give people proper treatment while also keeping at risk patients away from other people
Well, let's hope you don't become as callous and lazy as the majority of social workers seem to become.
It’s the drugs wake up. Over 90% of killers are on psych meds.
If anything I just wanted them to feel bad for what they did
the difference is that he is a man, just like all the other mass shooters :)

I was only 2 years old at the time so it didnt affect me much and I grew up with a single mother for the rest of my life. You have better, accessible resources with better training, and far less opportunities for shootings given the gun regulation. You may want to throw the importance of mental health under the bus, but in your comment you are actually positively contributing evidence to support the original commenter's argument. Trust me. You guys over there have humans living there, and as long as there are humans, there will be suffering, and with suffering can come extremely poor mental health that festers until it becomes an uncurable infection that drives people to do these things. Actively nicking it in the bud and making it difficult for anyone to obtain weapons specifically designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, showcases why you have 0 mass shootings. Take these variables away, like in shitty America, and this shit happens. But the mental health crises will always be there. There is always going to be someone who is born and/or raised in extremely poor mental health and will see no value or love for themselves, and by proxy, don't value others. It's how you deal with the problems effectively that changes the outcome.

It's really a failure of all the mental health checks and balances we have in America. This kid was essentially crying out for help and there were plenty of red flags up until that point. So what's the point of all the processes they went through if it still didn't stop the mass shooting?
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!!
