I’m so angry at how this detective handled the situation. There was no reason he wasn’t taken immediately to the hospital, and he wasted so much valuable time.
I swear I can't contain myself right now. I am shaking with anger. This video really got me emotional. Its absolutely despicable what that interrogator did
It doesnt even matter he is criminal or not. If a person shot in the head, reguardless of murderer or innocent, first thing a security personel should do is check the wound and if its severe like shot in the head immediately send him to the hospital. I dont know wtf is this detective doing???
Hearing Ryan repeat "I want to go to sleep" is haunting, knowing that it means his body is giving up, and Ryan is actually pleading for permission to die.
@@mellontheuprisemill6905not really. People feel like going to sleep in multiple medical emergencies like concussions, blood loss, hypothermia. I doubt the brain asks you to end it this way but it’s definitely not a good sign
@@zhnsheel Having dropped dead in the hospital, can confirm...that your body tries to put you to sleep so you don't die awake. It's a horrible feeling.
As a med student, I felt bad. He showed many clear signs of brain damage, from pain, doziness, causeless overwhelming state, confusion in perceiving information and speaking… Being a suspect or not, they should be still allowed to get emergency healthcare when in endangered state. Those cops and detective deserved to be punished for being so ignorant
As a previous high school athlete, he showed many clear signs of brain damage. Our yearly required concussion protocol that no one pays attention to and lasts 15 minutes got the point across that everything he was displaying was a brain injury. You have to be like an infant child who hasn't experienced the world yet to not notice the clear signs in this situation
As a good person or a student this detective needs to be imprisonned and the if the suspect got brutal injured the suspect needs to get the medical cares if they want to talk about it, why they wont go to the hospital and talk it them. This is too cruel poor dude
You have to understand, the average cop basically only knows two things: how to interrogate and how to punch their spouse/partner. Asking them to learn how to do a third thing would be simply too much cognitive load for them to handle. They would probably have a stroke just trying. That's why they irrationally fear fent; anything that isn't assaulting a spouse or mistreating a suspect only generates an extreme emotional response. If you end up working in an ER, you'll learn what I mean.
🕊️ Rest in Peace, Ryan. 🕊️ 😢 He passed in 2016 due to seizure problems connected to this. His life was ruined for 9/10 years with constant seizures until he passed away. This PI$$ED off a lot of people!! I'm actually angry and outraged again now seeing this today. They delayed serious treatment by this prolonged 💩 interrogation!! UTTER DISGRACE & INCOMPETENCE!!

The fact he obviously had a serious injury....like missing a damn eye....but they interrogated him instead of immediately taking to the hospital, is absolutely insane.
I truly believe these types of terrible decisions are a combination of evil and stupid. Even an evil person should be smart enough to realize that they will be getting in trouble for not getting him medical help. Also, if he was the perpetrator, this would have severely hurt the cops in court.
The fact that the dude was shot straight in the eye and the detective took that long to figure it out really says a lot about how good of a detective he is
That was my thought as well. How good of a detective can this guy be, if he can’t figure out, within the first 5-10 minutes of listening to Ryan not making sense at all and in combination with the way his face looks, that Ryan seems to have a serious head injury? Or maybe he (“detective”) was thinking, “Maybe I can get him to confess, while he is still out of it from getting beat up. Heck as long as I don’t forget to read him his rights, everything goes, right?!”
His tactic was torturing him for a long time having to go through booking first handcuffing him not giving him any medical attention or food to get him to “tell the truth” because of a statistic that says the boyfriend or girlfriend is usually the killer.
I really thought the police officers were trained to read people and their behaviors. How can the list officer even think 9f bringing him to the station rather than the Hospital
I used to work as a lawyer and I think this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. This is SOOOO sad to watch. The poor guy dying and essentially being tortured, caught in a living nightmare.

I have spent the last 44 years in EMS and have never seen a law enforcement officer/department have a policy where they take someone in for questioning without medically clearing them first. This is insanity at all levels. This kids parents will own this town after the lawsuit settles.
The police officer never got any consequences at all, they somehow paid a slimy disgusting doctor with no morals enough money to say that waiting six hours after being shot had no effect on his injuries
I've been watching a lot of body cam stuff recently, and they always take people to the hospital right away even if they just yanked too hard on their cuffs.
Cops are happy to interrogate suspects that need medical treatment. Which is against protocol apparently... They should be taking him to the hospital to get checked out first, but they get better results for talking to people who are suffering. It mostly happens with drug addicts going through withdrawal. Even if you ask for a lawyer they'll keep interrogating you before the lawyer comes, which is also not legal...
@RE: NEKO If Ryan was brought to the hospital right away the doctors could have stopped the bleeding and stop the brain swelling thus reducing the damage to his brain. Ryan suffered seizures throughout ten more years and died from it.

It's really crazy how he said "You'd most likely be dead" stating the fact that someone would usually die but that there is a rare chance someone survives as Ryan did.
In all fairness, what are the chances you happen to speak to someone face to face that got shot through his eye, went through his head and managed to survive? Although, I do not understand why he wasn't medically checked before the interrogation. Shame on the officer and deperatment.
Every time Ryan said "I don't know" you could feel how genuine and honest he was being, how could the detective not at least considerate that he really might not be doing well..

You are exactly right! This story breaks my heart, that poor man. Prayer for the victims families. I hope the father and son have the day they deserve.
Also for context Ryan was completely innocent. His apartment was broken into. He was shot twice in the head and lost consciousness. His girlfriend was shot and killed by the perpetrators. When Ryan awoke, he was in such a poor mental state from his injuries that he thought his girlfriend was simply asleep on the couch when she was actually dead. When her parents hadn't heard from her, they called police for a wellness check I think. And that's when they found her and took Ryan into custody. There's several videos about this case. Edit: I probably got a few of the details wrong but I do remember seeing a video on this case and from what I remember Ryan was most definitely innocent.
Just to clarify he died 10 years afterwards of a seizure but still could have been prevented if timely care was provided. He was blind and had multiple seizures unfortunately succumbed to one in 2016 this incident happened in 2005.
@@bretagnejean2410 and that's how it should be done. Innocent or criminal with that physical condition they should take him to hospital first and let him recover first before anything else.
I was a trauma nurse and police have brought detainees in to be medically cleared for much less than this. The police should have taken him to the ER first for clearance, especially if he looks that way and says he was shot in the eye. This is why cops get a bad rap unfortunately. It’s appalling.
The cop in this video mocks him for saying he was shot in the eye and goes "What, with a BB gun?" Holy effing shit. Even that was the case, it would mean that the guy needs to be checked by medical professionals ASAP. Like getting a BB through the eye isn't something that warrants instant medical attention. Given that the guy looks the way he does, it's utterly inhumane to not allow him instant access to a doctor and a checkup. Even a murder suspect doesn't deserve getting blind in one eye through police neglect.
Rip Ryan and Heather it's sickening to think that someone would shoot another person over an argument and the fact that after saying you were shot in the head you don't get medical attention, evil world we live in

Shocking how easily one person bullying or beating someone can effect the care they receive elsewhere, part of ptsd and ongoing trauma, see it every day, and is the biggest way that abusers have to get away with their crimes for so long. First on the scene with the police should have been an ambulance due to the dead body they found which might not even have been dead at that time, plenty of people get shot and live also! What were children that age doing living away from home anyway, they could have been stolen or trafficked or lost in the system or anything 😔
To be fair, acting doesn't have to mean simulating. At that point, it sounds like he means it as "his actions indicate brain damage", although that obviously doesn't excuse the detective's previous actions. I rewatched it after commenting, and he even says "which would make sense". Nothing about faking it.
@@ericforsythI would argue that “acting” definitely comes with the connotation of behaving in a way that isn’t genuine. “Behaving like someone with brain injuries would” is a much better neutral substitute for “acting.”

I don’t think someone with brain damage is gonna be able to tell you what happened last night. The fact this guy was able to talk at all already is a miracle. I feel like the detective was just straight up bullying/neglecting care, why isn’t that a crime?
when i had septic shock, the doc didn't say tell me it was septic shock instead they told it it was a stomach flu because I was able to talk to the doctors but in reality I was just really disorientated and couldn't think properly. When I went back to the doctors after a day because the pain and disorientation got worse, and checked my blood pressure, that's when the doc realized I was about to die. And were actually surprised I was able to respond to them and wabbled my way to the office.

that’s so sad. the reason he wanted to “sleep” is because his brain was trying to let him die. he didn’t know that heather was dead and he thought she was just asleep because of the brain trauma. brought me to tears. that detective is an idiot. :(
Yeah I had a really hard brain trauma and basically you skip around from thought to thought, you just want to sleep and if you do you will probably die but not always. Then you have these moments of clarity but you have to be walked along step by step with the truth. So lets say you were hit by a car and they said "A white car hit you?" youd skip to the truth of that and talk about it, then they might say somehting like "yellow" and "yeah and she has a yellow one", and they will be like "a yellow what?" and then you just dont know what they are talking about cause they said yellow not you, if they knew your memory they could keep you coherent all night like "Yeah she has a yellow bag?" and youd be like "yeah she does, she keeps her stuff in it", so if the cop had of said "so they got you in a sleeping hold, a headlock" he would have been like "yeah" and given more details.
yeh hubby had an aneurysm clot in his brain but we didnt figure out that was the issue for a couple days, at first honestly though it was just a blazing migraine cause he was passing all that kind of "stroke test" stuff. eventually tho it starts shifting his thinking sidewas. long long story but the short point of it is when we saw this initial interrogation we were both like "oh my god. hes got a concussion or someone DID shoot this guy in the head". originally watched a much longer clip of this and i still cant bear to watch it again. it made my husband absolutely sick to his stomach because even though when he tries to recall he can't remember being in that dreamy state when he heard this kid he recognized it immediately :( heartbreaking. And the flipping details thing, (something that happend to someone else, saying it happened to you) -- my mother was doing that the week before she passed in hospice. So if you said "I bumped my knee" there was a chance she would say "I bumped my knee" and echo / reflect it, then insiste it was she who did it, etc. Yes, dying brain matter stuff, as she was passing slowly, yeah, we were watching this poor kid dying on camera. just.. this whole thing was terible :(

This case was so sad. This young man died ten years later from a seizure that was a result of his injury. I can't even imagine what he must have gone through.
@FirstLast-hs4gw accurate assessment. It's heartbreaking when you learn, after watching the interrogation, that he had taken a bullet to the head, and had been in that state for at least 24 to 48 hours before the interrogation took place. I do hope something was done about the officer who interrogated him. Thank you for your service by the way. My grandfather was a police officer and later police chief before he passed away.
tbh most of him died that day because of that detective. Withholding treatment led to him being permanently brain damaged, and he could even be alive and himself right now if this 'detective' had any intelligence.
This is the saddest thing. I certainly hope that detective was brought up on charges. Ryan should've been transported to the hospital before stepping foot in a police station. I cannot imagine the suffering he went through. This young man might still be here today if it wasn't for the ass holes who shot him and that detective. Rest in Peace Ryan and Heather.
Ryan was treated a lot worse than just the lengthy interrogation. He was in custody for hours at the scene, and wasn't provided medical help by any of the "heroes" at the scene. Their infallible "gut instincts" told them Ryan was the guy, so they chose to mistreat him, because he was, in their eyes, a murdererer. Even if they didn't know he was shot, they still had a duty to get him medical attention, and they chose not to.
People tend to view folks in prison as sub-human and there for punishment, not rehabilitation. Most of these same people tend to view people merely arrested in association with a crime as being guilty. If you combine these things you're surrounded with hostile, bitter people who assume things are true without knowing the facts and wanting people to suffer.
In the vast majority of cases, it is the boyfriend that kills the girlfriend, But it's not 100%, and this case is why can't just assume. They basically killed this kid by trying to play tough-guy cops who "know better". Idiots.
I looked into the case and the department was sued by Ryans father and the integrator was charged with evidence tampering along with another charge to do with providing false information about the case. Still no justice for Ryan who should have went on to live a long life.
The poor lad had done nothing, yet he was being treated as if he was a criminal, and the officer did this while he was dying from his injury, which the officer seemed to think was a joke.

The only visible injury is a scratch… immediately to the hospital without hesitation? That’s what’s bothering me, you as an investigator would completely disregard the idea that the boyfriend could have done it? A guy who appears drunk, is walking and talking, and tells you an unbelievable story- immediately believe him? I just don’t understand. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe he deserved any of this or should have been interrogated for hours. Yes, that was way too long. What I’m bothered by is the way people talk. It truly was so cruel, I wonder if that officer even felt remorse and at-least attempted to apologize to him and his family. Whoever chose to drive him to the precinct instead of the hospital is also responsible.
I am sorry that Ryan was dead that was caused by one man who was supposed to serve the victim with hospital care. I wish that Ryan did not make even one sound to that detective.
@@freddyfish835 I fail to see how this is a sane response to this comment. Like this is a clear cut and dry case of negligence on the behalf of the detective, so what does this brain-dead whataboutism even serve to accomplish? Are you saying that people with little to no medical training should be able to decide whether or not someone in their custody should receive medical care? Being interrogated does not strip a person of their basic human rights, even if all evidence points to them being guilty. POWs get treated better than this, this level of negligence is basically akin to manslaughter, and the detective and the officers who picked him up should be stripped of their positions, blacklisted from joining any other force, and face their due justice for what they did to Ryan
@freddyfish835 Yes. To your ? yes they do. Regardless if he was shot with a bullet, bb or marshmallow, he was clearly injured through the eye. The detective should definitely be charged with manslaughter. When they take someone into custody, your life is their responsibility. He withheld medical attention which resulted in this young man's death.
Why was this detective not charged with accessory to murder? He delayed that kid’s treatment for five damn hours, four in the police car and another one in interrogation!!! Asking them to learn how to do a third thing would be simply too much cognitive load for them to handle. They would probably have a stroke just trying. I'm no doctor or nurse but I feel so sad and angry just looking at him in that terrible state, poor boy.
lol cops are basically required to be sociopaths or borderline re†ar∂s
too bad the only case where they will pay for this is if some vigilante civilian goes out there and delivers justice. and we know that will never happen. and we know nothing will happen. just have to hope hes living the rest of his days in fear cuz people know and have seen what he did, and one day one of those persons might walk into him on the street
They better! This isn't right and it's ridiculous that he is getting away with this.
If common sense was a lot more common today we wouldn't be having near as much of the nonsense we're seeing today.
I'm just glad I grew up in the country around farms before I moved on to a small town before I hit the city.
What an inexcusable tragedy. Hearing him and watching him hold his head and try his best to answer questions while slowly succumbing to the brain injury is devastating.
What happened to this evil creature who worked for the police?
@@steffenjonda8283 family sued but case was dismissed aka clear manipulaton of the system when there is clear negligence of ryan having an exit would in his head
that’s so sad. the reason he wanted to “sleep” is because his brain was trying to let him die. he didn’t know that heather was dead and he thought she was just asleep because of the brain trauma. brought me to tears. that detective is an idiot. :(
Yeah.. it leaves you wordless, for the entire video I was hoping for something to happen that would save him but no..
Yes, dying brain matter stuff, as she was passing slowly, yeah, we were watching this poor kid dying on camera. just.. this whole thing was terible :(
I hope he knows he's responsible for this guy's death.

How sad he was treated as guilty person and had to die instead of going to hospital 😢😢😢
As a paramedic, it’s astounding this man didn’t get care before this interrogation. That eye wound looks serious, even not knowing that he was shot.

I thought he committed suicide
@jeremylelea3758 no, he had a seizure and never recovered.
This was painful to watch. I can’t believe this detective was so oblivious to this boy’s injury. I felt so bad for this boy.
That detective should be fired! Doesnt even know how too do his job!!

@@getpoopeduponkid2059 yes!!!!!!!
Idiots.
He said that he was shot in the eye, so the cops knew it.
I bet they didn't find a gun at the scene that matched the girlfriend's wound.

@@user-qh8nh7oe6d Weren’t the only visible injuries a scratch next to his eye and a little dried blood? It’s terrible what happened, don’t get me wrong, but calling him a bully? He was trying to figure out who killed a young woman. There was a guy who appears under the influence at the scene who says someone else shot her, and they shot him in the head.
Do any of you watch true crime stories?! All of you would let killers and abusers walk because you’re just going to believe the boyfriend? THAT is infuriating! I am sorry that Ryan was dead that was caused by one man who was supposed to serve the victim with hospital care. I wish that Ryan did not make even one sound to that detective.
That detective played a part in Ryan's death. He delayed his treatment and then Ryan had a difficult time coping with everything.
does the person being interrogated have the right to medical attention even if they don't need it?
@@blakebell8533I'm not saying anything that your saying. I'm just asking a question.🙂
