Just completed this today. 3 things that took the longest were, 1. Getting the filler neck reconnected was really hard on the new tank as there’s almost no room. 2. One of the electrical connectors wouldn’t lock so I ended up using a zip tie to lock it in place. Probably stronger than the original clip. 3. Getting the Forscan key downloaded. For some reason my laptop wouldn’t do it, but I eventually figured it out. All in all took me about 5 hours doing it all alone. If I didn’t have the issues probably could’ve done it in 3 hours. Thanks for the video.
Just completed this job with some difficulty. I didn't disconnect fuel and evap lines above tank at both ends. I slowly lowered the tank, removed filler hose, and then unclipped lines from the white clips on top of the tank as I gradually lowered it and supported with blocks on the way down. When you can disconnect all the wiring and the air water clip from the fuel pump, you can lower the tank all the way to the ground to disconnect the remaining lines from the fuel pump. I didn't jack up my truck or remove the drive shaft as I've see in other videos. I do have air bags and a leveling kit with larger tires. You can easily do this with a couple gallons in the tank. Coming out and going in. All the connections to my fuel pump were dirty and stiff. None of them wanted to come off or go back on. I ended up and recommend spraying all of them with compressed air and WD40. Makes things go much smoother. Also the air water quick disconnect at the fuel pump on my truck 2015 f150, was a push on the tab. NOT pull! And the tab was grey, not green. I ended breaking mine, thinking the tab had to be pulled instead of pushed. The part is nearly impossible to find and is only sold by Ford as part of the filler tube assembly for $300. Found one on the world wide web that's 3 week's out. It's just a vent, I ended up using a 5/16 barbed 90 and a short pice of 5/16 fuel line straight to the fuel pump connection. Works fine. Hope this helps someone.
Using a metal hammer on a metal spike to seat that gasket while there's spilled gasoline everywhere is one of the most brilliant things I've seen on UA-cam.
Well, I am so glad you agree with the greatness you're viewing. Bout time, we get recognized for our sheer brilliance. Thanks for the comment and support. If ya wanna watch other amazing content, check out our other videos.
Just finished this today. As others have commented, the filler neck re connecting was a pain. I had husky rear wheel well liners and had to remove the one in order to get access to the filler neck. To reconnect I had to come in from the top end of the tank and finesse my arm to wiggle the neck back and forth. Once I got enough seated, I used needle nose pliers to pull it on further. Another note is that my tank came from a recycler yard on eBay. They cut the internal tank line with quick connect, so I ended up using an 8mm in tank fuel line I got from summit racing (8 inch line) which will connect to the 3 barb y fitting inside the tank (you have to use a utility blade to carefully cut the existing tube longitudinally to get it off the fitting) and then have good grip strength to work the new line on it. i also got a 5/16 quick connect (female) to 5/16 fuel line fitting with the barbs on the male end and connected it to the free end of the new in tank line. It connected well to the fuel pump and was a good work around (it's just an evap line so it isnt as crucial as the main fuel line). just wanted to put this here for anyone who has a similar issue.

@@JMRRebuilders The tank was down to less than half so was going to the station and decided to use up some fuel in two 5 gallon containers. Fortunately there was only seven gallons added to the tank. Checking for codes it now shows them clear. I'm headed to town to fill the tank with more fuel now to dilute it even better. So right now it has about 12 gallons of fuel and one container of Heet. I can't say enough about the Heet. I know it is likely just alcohol but it works. Doing an experiment while this was going on some Heet was added to some good fuel that had water added. I've noticed different partnumbers for ecoboost and v8 fuel pumps. The part number listed says ecoboost. Have you noticed any problems since installing that pump over the correct one?
No we have not. I called Ford told them our setup and that was the pump they stated went with that application. Good luck to you and let us know if you need any additional help.

I changed my tank on my 04 f150 to a 36 gallon and it's stalling and spitting a check engine code for the fuel rail pressure sensor. I changed it and it's still the same.
I found out that I can use a 36 gallon tank from the last gen of f-150s. Would you happen to know if I would be able to use the fuel pump and sending unit that came on my 2022 f-150? Thanks in advance

I swapped out my 23 gallon for a 36 in my 2019 5.0. I did the forscan just like you guys and my distance to empty changes, but only went up to half a tank. My tank is full, but the gauge is showing half full and it says 254 miles to empty. Any thoughts?
Thats interesting. Unfortunately I cant really with out seeing it. I wonder how you updated it in forscan. There are multiple ways to do it in forscan I wonder if you did it in a way that did not correct it.

Yes it did also. I believe you have to replace the fuel pump when you swap the tank. Good luck and let us know if ya need help
I've noticed different partnumbers for ecoboost and v8 fuel pumps. The part number listed says ecoboost. Have you noticed any problems since installing that pump over the correct one?
No we have not. I called Ford told them our setup and that was the pump they stated went with that application. Good luck to you and let us know if you need any additional help.
thanks gents
No worries glad it helped. Thanks for watching and commenting
Wish y’all could do this to my truck 😫
It really ain't that hard. The hard part is the price. But it is Def something you can do in your drive way. Good luck and keep getting after it
Nice video. Too bad you don't understand how gas prices work.
Yeah bud thats it. Thanks for the view and comment
Hi I watch your video was very informative and help me put in a new tank in my 2018 f150 5.0 Coyote however I do not replace a fuel pump as you recommended that I can be used the old one my issue now is my fuel gauge at I don't think it's working properly however the part linked under your recommendations for a 3.5 EcoBoost I have a 5.0 coyote would it be same part???
Thank you for reaching out and using our video. With regards to what pump works depending on the motor, that is something I woiof reach out to a ford authorized dealer and just get the part numbers from them and compare. Thanks for the comment and support.
Where do I get the Ford scan and plug
Here one. Gotta make sure has the external switch.
FORScan ELM327 OBD2 USB Adapter for Windows Diagnostic Coding Tool with MS-CAN/HS-CAN Switch for Ford Lincoln Mazda Mercury Series Vehicles a.co/d/cdopbps
Can i use the forscan to make my miles to empty accurate, somehow its way off
Not sure the issue and the answer to resolve it. Sorry
There are 2 stubs on the new pump that the line inside the could connect to inside the tank. Does the line connect to the vertical stub or the horizontal stub? I don’t remember when I removed the old pump.
Oh man that's been so long ago I can't remotely remember. Not sure we even show in the video either. So sorry brother
@@JMRRebuilders it was worth a shot hahaha
Thanks for the speedy reply!
@nathanstrickland7747 no worries brother. Thanks for the kind words
This on the diesel 🤔. I'm looking to drop my def tank and swap in a larger fuel tank
No ours was a gasser. Sorry brother. Good luck bro and thanks for the comment and support
Thanks Guys. !!!!
Not a problem. Hope it helps brother.
I wanna do this!
It isn't a cheap upgrade but it is a good one for sure. Good luck to you. Thanks for the support.
What motor and what exhaust is in that truck? Sounds good.
Its a coyote not sure on exhaust it was on the truck when purchased. We appreciate the support
Awesome will ut work on ecoboost as well
It should work on any ford of that time frame. Thanks for comment and good luck
I changed my tank on my 04 f150 to a 36 gallon and it's stalling and spitting a check engine code for the fuel rail pressure sensor. I changed it and it's still the same.
Well that sucks. I am not sure butbwould test your fuel pressure. Honestly not sure. Check to make sure its all connected
Where did you get the software to updated the system from 26 to 36 gallons?
The software is called Forscan. It's open source.... So it's free! There is also a forum connected to it with tons of info. Have fun!
Do I have to replace fuel pump or can I use the old one out of my current tank?
Your current one should work. We just did it all to be safe. Good luck.
Do you know if they make a bigger tank for the 2.7 liter eco boost?
The tanks are the same no matter the engine brother. So yes you could put the larger 36 gal tank in your truck. Good luck brother
I loosened that first bolt at 5:10 and the tank didn't even move like yours did... 😐 It's an '18 XLT...
May need some persuasion. Good luck to ya brother. Thanks for comment and support
Is it possible to put this on a Chevy Silverado? Or no?
This current setup is for a 16 f150 nit sure it would work on a chevy. I imagine chevy has some sort of similar setup. Good luck to you
How long did it take? Thats a must do for my truck!
The tank swap is easy enough could be done in an hour. Good luck
How long did it take you from start to finish to complete the changeover
Maybe 4 hours at most and we had to film. Good luck to ya. If this content helped you please consider subscribing.
Where did you purchase this fuel tank from? I can’t seem to find one for my 2022 f-150.
Hey brother thanks for the comment. We purchased directly from our local Ford dealer. Good luck brother
I found out that I can use a 36 gallon tank from the last gen of f-150s. Would you happen to know if I would be able to use the fuel pump and sending unit that came on my 2022 f-150? Thanks in advance
@@Grantham86 you have to swap the pump as well they are different part numbers for the 2 different size tanks.
Where’s best way to buy a 36 gallon gas tank?
Hey brother thanks for watching. If you could snag one from a junkyard would be cheapest. If not your local dealership will have it. Also you have to buy the 36 gal pump. Good luck
Jus ran into this video and it’s an awesome one! Quick question, is it possible to do this on a Dodge Durango R/T
Hey thanks for the comment and support. No clue on the durango application. Good luck brother
Aye no worries but thank you for comment and the like!
But does this work on any truck? Or just fords?
The forscan app is ford only if that is what you mean
I swapped out my 23 gallon for a 36 in my 2019 5.0. I did the forscan just like you guys and my distance to empty changes, but only went up to half a tank. My tank is full, but the gauge is showing half full and it says 254 miles to empty. Any thoughts?
Thats interesting. Unfortunately I cant really with out seeing it. I wonder how you updated it in forscan. There are multiple ways to do it in forscan I wonder if you did it in a way that did not correct it.
You probably have to manually enter the as built data code instead of the easy mode forscan with the drop down box options.
Didn't change the pump as required.
Will this work with my 2016 2.7L 5.5 bed 145 wb
Hey thanks commenting and watching. We appreciate the support. Yes it should work just fine on your setup. Good luck
Did the fuel lines swap over or did you buy new ones?
We swapped them over. The stock ones work. Thanks for watching and consider subscribing to our channel!
Ok thanks, and I’ll subscribe
will the tank and pump work on a 2021 f150 5.0? im guessing it will but idk
Not sure on that. I imagine they havent changed that drastically. I would have to compare part numbers.
@@JMRRebuilders just confirmed on the forums....15 and up, the 36gal tank ia the same.....u can still use the stock pump on the 23 and 26 gal but the low fuel light will come on sooner meaning you will have around 10gal left.....the 36gal pump its indeed longer so it can read the correct amount of fuel in thr tank.....thank you for the video!
Good deal. Good luck to you
was this a flex fuel truck?
Hey brother thanks for the comment I am nit 100 certain but believe they are all. Good luck to ya brother
Where ud you get your 36 gallon tank
We bought it directly from ford ainxe we have a commercial account. You could Dave some money by getting it elsewhere. Good luck
Great video guys! Any tips on changing the fuel tank pressure sensor? Same procedure I assume?
I believe that sensor is apart of the top hat of the the fuel pump system. Not sure if this helps at all. Good luck to ya brother.
So the 23 gallons fuel pump will fit the 36 gallon or is the 36 gallon fuel pump longer??
I believe the same fuel pump works. The tank is the same circumference, just longer so the original tank straps still work. Thanks for watching! Subscribe if you found this video helpful and fun.
Just asking because I’m getting the tank today but doesn’t have a fuel pump my truck only has 15,000 miles the fuel pump is brand new basically so I was thinking to install it to the 36 gallon if there is no different on height
They are the same. Just one tank is longer. Good luck
@@umcompaq did you complete the swap with the same fuel pump? I have a 2016 5.0 and want to do this as well, just unsure if the fuel pump needs to change or not? If not, I think I’ll just need to purchase a tank and shield.
Thanks!
@@Skypenguin21 yes you have to replace the pump the pump is too short and the fuel level sender is too short it won’t read accurately
I am seeing that these fuel tanks only are $650, is that about normal? I see people saying that it cost them $150 for the tank and pump, what’s up with that?
We paid alot more for our setup. We purchased straight from ford using our discount. The owner needed it quickly and didnt want to deal with any kind of issue since he was driving from ga to colorado. I believe some are getting it at junk yards. We have found yards up north are much cheaper then yards down south. Good luck to ya
I just paid 50 dollars at a junk yard for my tank. I got the pump motor for about 100 new and changed the internals myself.
@@TheActualFinn great job and great deal
Where did y’all get the fuel pump from?
We purchased it directly from ford. If this video helped please consider subsctibing
Where did you get the 36gallon tank?
We purchased it directly from our local ford dealership.
Are run a pan handle or whots
Not sure what ya mean but here in the states pan handle means begging for money. To fill up that tank he might have to pan handle. Appreciate the support brother
Did the 26 gallon tank straps work with the 36 gallon tank?
Yes you reuse the same straps. Thanks for the support and comment.

How long did this take, start to finish?
Hey brother thanks for the comment. Even with us having to film and then program it took about 3 hours. It could be done much faster for sure.
