Hey yogis, I'm happy to be expanding my yin yoga without props series with an hour long class this week. This is a great full body stretch you can do anytime, anywhere. You won't need any blocks, bolsters or straps!
We'll target your hips, hamstrings, chest and shoulders in this 60 minute practice. Yin Yoga is meant to be a passive practice where we focus on the fascia and deep connective tissues. Try to relax your muscles as you hold the poses for 2-5 minutes on each side. Remember not to push past your edge, less is always more!
What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.
There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose
Find your edge means respecting your body's limits and not pushing too far and risking injury. Pull back a little bit and as you hold the pose you will be able to go deeper into it without pushing too far or hurting yourself.
Being still means that once you are in the pose it is important to completely relax your muscles so the benefits can get into the connective tissues and joints. Try not to fidget or move or distract yourself, this is a meditative practice. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose.
Holding the pose means that in Yin Yoga a pose can be held for 1-10 minutes depending on the pose performed and on the comfort level of the student.

Be well Technically you have had a brain injury I had one where entire side of face was eggplant purple finally went 2 walmart after 2wks women gave me card for battered womens shelter and asked if I "felt safe?" Right by tator tots I couldn't figure wht she meant til I remembered my face

Before the lockdown I took classes at the studio and those days when I couldn’t make it I would use UA-cam to substitute my practice. I primarily do Iyengar 5-6 days a week but I always find time for Yin and up until today (5/26/20) I would turn on ‘YwA ‘or ‘TE ‘Yin classes (you know who i mean). I’m not saying they aren’t good but it never felt the same sensations I did in the the Yin classes I attended in person. Today I found my wonderYinWoman your class gave me the feeling that I was in a studio. The sincerity. The need for you not to pose for the camera. To make jokes to pander to viewers. It was great and I have subscribed and will continue to search your classes out while I maintain my practice. Thank you for just being you.
I love YwA, too, and Adrienne herself, but sometimes it's hard to move past her talking to us like we're small children.
I'm also an Iyengar/yin person. I am very picky about instructors and sequencing because my body/mind are very sensitive to outside stimulus (autism, adhd, and chronic pain). I have maybe 2 teachers IRL that I like, and 4 on YT that I trust to give practices that work for me. It's hard when most teachers are trained primarily in flow styles and my body wants to find proper alignment and hold a pose.

When I began this I had just retired. After working full time as well as writing every day, I had neglected my body to such an extent I had lost range of motion in my hips. I was even considering a hip replacement. After using your video as part of a work-out routine since February, I have more than doubled my range and I feel so much sturdier and stronger. Thank you

I've been enjoying Yin Yoga for many years, and when my normal class had to be cancelled tonight, I did a quick search for yin yoga online. I'm so glad I found you, Kassandra! I really enjoyed this class. I liked your selection of poses so much, I found the natural simplicity of the class to be intuitive and very relaxing, and most of all I appreciated the SILENCE that you offered us. So many yoga teachers feel the need to fill the silences with encouraging talk, but I've always found that a bit distracting. Distracting can be good in certain situations, don't get me wrong! But I sank into your quiet class tonight with relief and appreciation for the opportunity to NOT listen to someone else for the first time all day today. Namaste my friend, I will be back. Thank you.

This was just what I needed after a long flight n trying to find the right hotel in NY at 12 midnight. So much stress but I meet a fellow yogi in the hotel n he reminded me of yoga n how much I needed to get on my mat. It helped me to regain my focus n remember what is important.
