I made this cake yesterday and it's a highly recommended 5* recipe. Reminder: keep a eye on your batter while cooking in the oven that it doesn't over brown because 325 may be to high.
Looks delicious. I wondered, is the ganache okay to use by itself in say a flan? I am trying to find the way to do butterscotch tart the way we used to get it in school here (Scotland) but have been unsuccessful. Your sauce looks the most delicious of them all so far but I want to make a tart with just the butterscotch on top. I'm definitely trying this one, too though haha.
LOL... funny thing is I just bought this weekend a bag of butterscotch chips just because they were on sale. I was wondering what the heck I would need them for. 👏👏 THANKS
+shahnas shaji Sure, but keep in mind that you're not starting from a white base. Since the buttercream is naturally tan, you'll have a tan undertone to any color that you make.
+melissa belcher Hi Melissa! You can definitely use all butter in the frosting instead of half shortening and half butter if that is your preference. All butter would have a better flavor, but would be softer and melt more easily. Shortening has a higher melting point, so it lends some additional stability to the icing.
+Ava Grace Hi Ava! Yes, you can divide the batter into two 8 in. round pans instead. The baking time will increase. I would start checking the cakes for doneness around 28 minutes, as an estimate.
+muzz brudr Throwing away cake scraps is just a big no no, wasteful and probably doesnt have any children to understand the cost of food let alone baking a cake. Food is not cheap anymore, there are even many desserts that can be made from cake scraps like trifle, cakepops and also as a base ingredient for crumb cake, sorry my four kids and there friends love cake scraps from my baking, as they'll have to wait till after dinner before getting a slice with Italian buttercream, it is a treatt in my Family.
Hi dear Beth, please share the ingredients for the recipe, you do not mention quantities of all of them, such as eggs, milk and vanilla for the cake, thanks in advance, Consuelo

in the uk, we dont have butterscotch chunks, unless you count hard sweets. can you make your own butterscotch and make that into a ganche?
+Goldwolf That's a really interesting question, and honestly, I don't know! If you try it, will you let me know how it goes?
Is it possible to colour this icing like butter cream frosting
+shahnas shaji Sure, but keep in mind that you're not starting from a white base. Since the buttercream is naturally tan, you'll have a tan undertone to any color that you make.
Does the height of the cake not mess you up when you decorate or put it together? I feel it would mess me up.
Can you make a pumpkin pie
I'll post up tomorrow how this turns out....look for it.
can I use Candy Melts instead of Butterscotch chips?
Sure why not!
Of course you can. That's the wonderful thing about baking, you can do anything you want :-)
Made the cake yesterday for my wedding anniversary, it tasted good but was too dense.
why did u use vegetable shortening instead of just all butter in the frosting. will that change the taste a lot?
+melissa belcher Hi Melissa! You can definitely use all butter in the frosting instead of half shortening and half butter if that is your preference. All butter would have a better flavor, but would be softer and melt more easily. Shortening has a higher melting point, so it lends some additional stability to the icing.
+Wilton Ty you so much for my answer and the tips!! Love all the great recipe's and tips you guys have!!
are Wilton products halal and available in south Africa and Morocco
I live in Europe. Where do I find butterscotch chips or what can I replace it with ?
I just found some on Amazon.
yah can u show how to make fondant at home from scratch
what are the ingredients in grams
It looks like a dry cake...why you didn't wet a bit before the icing????
Can I make this cake using 8in pans?
+Ava Grace Hi Ava! Yes, you can divide the batter into two 8 in. round pans instead. The baking time will increase. I would start checking the cakes for doneness around 28 minutes, as an estimate.
What can you do if you cant get butterscotch chips in your country?
Yeah +1
Melina Yasmin you can make your own butterscotch sauce
Thumbs down for throwing the off cuts away lol.
I doubt she threw them away. She probably set them aside. She is an expert at Wilton. Guaranteed she knows about saving off cuts for cake pops. :-)
+etsyBackYardWildLife I hear the crumbling of a garbage bag when she put it away ☹️☹️😐
+muzz brudr Throwing away cake scraps is just a big no no, wasteful and probably doesnt have any children to understand the cost of food let alone baking a cake. +Siddhi Mulay I heard it too. It's clearly a garbage bag.
looks good but complicated
Hi dear Beth, please share the ingredients for the recipe, you do not mention quantities of all of them, such as eggs, milk and vanilla for the cake, thanks in advance, Consuelo
