Used to be pro-death penalty. Two people changed my mind: Joshua Milton Blahyi and David Berkowitz... aka General Butt Naked and the Son of Sam/.44 caliber killer. No one is too bad for forgiveness, and even the worst can change with God. Seriously, i HIGHLY recommend The Redemption of General Butt Naked, a documentary on Blahyi. That is my religious viewpoint, but people often tell me to keep religion out of politics, so i need a political view divorced from my religious view. My mind is not totally made up on this. 1 practicality: in our society, there is no need to end someone's life to remove the threat they pose to society. 2 false convictions: i don't want to be party to killing an innocent, even at one or two removes. However... Sori, you say there is nothing your children could possibly do to make you think they should be executed, but we are told to love others as we love ourselves... is there anything YOU could possibly do that would male you feel it appropriate for you to be executed? I feel the same as you about the "killing those that deserve it is something i could do", and so when i say that there is certainly something i could do that would make me nod and say, "yes, kill me... it is for the best", maybe you can empathize. (I haven't, i just understand that i have the capacity) So... i cannot be wholeheartedly against the death penalty. Lastly, there is a story about a WWI French general seeing captives after a failed mutiny, who were set to be executed. Seeing they looked dejected and ashamed, he said to stand tall because, "in this way, too, you serve France," ( being executed as a deterrent to future mutinies) There is some truth to that. (Though we do need to weigh individual vs society)
Forget the moral arguments. It's impossible for anyone to agree with the state sentencing and carrying out death sentences. For one reason and one reason only......... they DO and HAVE executed innocent people. 1 innocent person put to death is 1 too many.
"there is no need to end someone's life to remove the threat they pose to society." oh really? because we have prisoners living in our prisons on taxpayers dollars for the rest of their lives (like Charles Manson), who just become more and more hardened. and now with the virus, the dumbasses in the state government want to set them free because of your same line of reasoning: "uwu, they're gonna get the totally not made in china virus", and they're going to kill and rape and steal yet again. consider also if you let criminals live, the cult of personality that grows around them: Manson for one, or his norwegian counterpart varg for another. if they remain, they get to keep spreading their vitriol, thumbing their nose at the system, and proving that there is no such thing as justice.

Ride the lightning, bring back a lot of memories. I discovered Metallica back in 91-92 when the Black Album was released. Back then, we didn't have any money so I was not able to buy records or cassettes. I got a job during summer vacations and with part of the money I earned, I bought the Ride Lightning cassette tape on a garage sale. Oh man, I was a happy child. Keep in mind by that time, I only knew the singles "Enter Sandman" and "The Unforgiven" since I heard them on the radio. From the first notes of Fight Fire with Fire to the amazing The Call of Ktulu, I was blown away. I was not expecting that raw power, that energy, that heaviness. It became my favorite record until I heard Master of Puppets. But that my friends, it's another story.
Same here. I had heard the radio singles from the black album. One afternoon, the guys across the street were sitting in the front yard with a cooler full of beer and a boombox. They were playing random rock and metal songs. Suddenly I hear this bell ring out a couple times and this riff kicks in. I was like what the hell is that? My introduction to For Whom The Bell Tolls. A few years later when I had the money and CDs had come out, I bought this album. That's when I went from listening to Poison and Bon Jovi to Thrash Metal lol
The Black album opened the doors to a ton of new fans. Myself and friends were listening to them for about ten years prior. They were a changed band by that time for sure. We were fortunate to have experienced both.

This song is one of their most aggressive and I think the premise is quite interesting. The vocalist said it's about how people use the expression "it's my cross to bear" and that he hates how people use it so lightly without fully understanding the weight of it. Band: Exodus Song: Sealed With a Fist It's about domestic abuse and it's my personal favorite by them. It's got groove and the lyrics are cleverly written. It always puts a smile on my face because it has a happy ending of sorts. Band: Lamb of God Song: Embers This one, based on my understanding, is about the loss of a newborn. I read an article that had a statement from the guitarist saying it was about his daughter. It's beautiful, tragic, and hopeful at the same time. Band: Iced Earth Song: Damien It's about, well, the son of the Devil. Horror Show was an album about different horror icons and legends like Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman, and Damien. This song is particularly memorable because of its opening bass line, the choir that sings, the crushing riffs, and the "colorful" words against Christ used in Damien's perspective. It's an epic song and I'm morbidly curious to see the looks on your faces after hearing certain lines. Much love! - Manny
@@brunopinheiro1632 Didn't mean technically as in technicality musicianship wise. Just mean like how the album is structured/flows/consistency and that sort of thing.
Ride the lightning is pretty much about death, almost every song is about tragedy, electric chairs, being trapped under ice, suicide and 2 songs are about the grim reaper, so yep, its a masterpiece album. lol
Trapped Under Ice is very underrated in my opinion also. Other than the song Escape , Trapped Under Ice has not been performed live by Metallica but a very few times. The few live versions I have listened to of Trapped Under Ice sound phenomenal. Metallica should add it to more of their setlists in the future because it is an amazing song.
Guys please do Trapped Under Ice, from this record. This is such an underrated but great song. WHY DID NOT METALLICA PLAY THIS ON THE GIG IN ANTARCTICA
As I was born in USSR in my childhood i was very often thinking what would I do in some situations that happened in WW2. Those were thoughts about numerous terrible situations that were happening almost each day at that war. And these thoughts gave a lot of moments of feeling so small and weak, because i coudlnt imagine if i could be a hero to sacrifice myself in certain circumstances. Ltater, as I grew older i realized that war is in some "grey" area where you shouldnt use your imagination thinking what will happen to you or what will you do ou there in that "grey" area. All I try to say that imaginning what is worse - electric chair, lethal injection or any other form of death penalty lies in the same "grey" area. I think that the only way to be is thinking that "when or if i get there - i will know". In all other case - you cant know. "Grey" area can be explored only when you are inside that "grey" area.
One of the two songs on the album with Dave Mustaine as a credited song writer. The guitar tones on the album are great. Master would have an overall better mix but thr guitars set a standard for thrash tones. This album was my introduction to this band.
RIP Cliff...Surprised Vin hadn't heard this before, This is one of their bigger tunes. Had this on Cassette, Record/Viynl, and CD at one point in time, Think I still have the CD somewhere.
So let me get this straight.....Vin is a huge Metallica fan ,but has never heard this before and he always thought it was a microphone and not an electric chair on the cover of Ride the Lightning? Now that's some phony crap.

When i first saw the album cover i thought it was a microphone, but i thought that can't be right, i looked at it again an then i saw the electric chair. And when i heard strapped in the electric chair for the first time then i felt stupid. But then again i was 15 when i fisrt heard it, i am 29 now.I
My introduction to Metallica was this album. It started with a question about a metal up your ass shirt. My friend didn't have his "Kill em All" cassette handy, but we listened to Ride The Lightning. This was all a few weeks before Master of Puppets came out. Those 2 albums are still my favorite Metallica albums. Songs are amazing.
Ride The Lightning is the first Metallica album I ever listened to back in 1987 at nine years old and it blew my mind at how aggressive and heavy it was. I have never listened to anything like that before and I loved it immediately. That is what I have always loved about Hard Rock/Heavy Metal music was the heaviness and aggression. All these years later Ride The Lightning is still my favorite Metallica album. I love every song on it, including Trapped Under Ice and Escape. I am happy that Metallica finally have remastered their first four albums a few years ago because they were way overdue . The first four studio albums have always been my favorites and they sound better than ever now that they have been remastered. They also did big boxsets for each one with alot of unreleased live songs and demos but they are expensive. They only did deluxe editions for Master Of Puppets and And Justice For All which is a more reasonable price. I wish that the first two also got deluxe edition releases. I agree with Vin that it is amazing the quality of music that Metallica did on the Ride The Lightning album at how young they were. Metallica in my opinion is one band that were at their peak of creativity in the first ten years of their career. They still made great music after the first four albums , but it was never as amazing for me. Great review of this song. I agree with Vin also on that I could not even be the person to pull the switch to an electric chair. I could never do it because I have no right to end anyone's life. The only way I could ever be capable of killing someone is for self defense.
The LIVE version, "Day on the Green 1985" concert is so good, y'all should check it out! It's about a guy wrongfully convicted an sentenced to death in an electric chair, hence ride the lightening..........
Metallica was one of my "gateway" bands into metal. Naturally there are bands I enjoy a lot more now, BUT Ride the Lightning is still a legit top 10 album for me. It was a game changer, adding a little more finesse and craftsmanship to the already competitive thrash scene that was pushing booundaries of speed and technique... I also like that it has a bit of that regal nature of Master, sometimes is classy but at other times isn't taking itself too seriously and just rocks out... Title track is my favorite.
One of the greatest metal albums of all time hands down. I think as an album I prefer it over master but master slightly beats it just to the overall impact it had on music.
Way back when, when I bought my first stereo system and was picking out speakers, i made the salesman play this tape. Creeping Death specifically. I bought the speakers.
Dead man Walking is the movie with Susan Suranden and Jeff Spicoli( I know this not his name but his name is escaping me so that's one of his other characters)
It's foreign to me that you saw a microphone and then realized it's an electric chair. Over the last 30 years I've owned multiple copies of RTL in multiple formats and never thought that it could be anything other than an electric chair. But it does look like a microphone. And it makes me wonder how many other people think it's a microphone. It's very odd to see a very familiar picture for 30 years and then have the processing of that image turned on its side. Thank you for that.
I suggest a metallica instrumental. It's called Suicide and Redemption. I seen you did the others. You'll love this one. It's off of their death magnetic album.
So... Majority of us thought the same perspective! At first time when we observe the album cover, it's a microphone and later... Oh! It's an electric chair!
I remember one time when I was about 16 me and my dad were driving and listening to this on the highway. As we were getting off, the song was turned up very loud and he was so engulfed into the song that he almost ran straight into an oncoming fire truck. Honestly one of the most frightening times of my life, and one of the reasons I no longer listen to Metallica on the highway.
My favorite Metallica songs 1.) Ride the Lightning 2.) Through the Never 3.) Holier than Thou 4.) Whiplash 5.) Damage Inc. 6.) Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 7.) The Day that Never Comes 8.) King Nothing 9.) Bleeding Me 10.) Devil's Dance

The vocalist said it's about how people use the expression "it's my cross to bear" and that he hates how people use it so lightly without fully understanding the weight of it.
Band: Exodus
Song: Sealed With a Fist
It's about domestic abuse and it's my personal favorite by them. It's got groove and the lyrics are cleverly written. It always puts a smile on my face because it has a happy ending of sorts.
Band: Lamb of God
Song: Embers
This one, based on my understanding, is about the loss of a newborn. I read an article that had a statement from the guitarist saying it was about his daughter. It's beautiful, tragic, and hopeful at the same time.
Band: Iced Earth
Song: Damien
It's about, well, the son of the Devil.
Much love!

first album i bought by metallica, first song i heard was creeping death which made me buy it, and saw them live at donnington 1985
Favorite Metallica album. Master of Puppets may be technically "better", but the darker atmosphere of Ride the Lightning just gets me going \m/
Metallica and technically two words combined that can't make sense.
@@brunopinheiro1632 Didn't mean technically as in technicality musicianship wise. Just mean like how the album is structured/flows/consistency and that sort of thing.
Ride the lightning is pretty much about death, almost every song is about tragedy, electric chairs, being trapped under ice, suicide and 2 songs are about the grim reaper, so yep, its a masterpiece album. lol
@@brunopinheiro1632 no need to open the hangar doors now, c'mon
The tuning is off. I get that it's for copyright, but damn it sounds bad
Archiwum Johnego is it just me or does it also feels a little slower too?
@@Anthony-nk4ky Yes, just a little bit slower and lower. It makes the song loose a bit of dynamics.
technically this is what it sounded like before they sped up the tape in 1984 for the album
@@billrobertjoe Ok, thanks, good to know. Does it mean this is the original vinyl version?
@@jol9178 no, it means it was slowed down, a vinyl can be played at any speed
Trapped under ice is, for me, the best in the whole album
What is the story about that?
Trapped Under Ice is very underrated in my opinion also. Other than the song Escape , Trapped Under Ice has not been performed live by Metallica but a very few times. The few live versions I have listened to of Trapped Under Ice sound phenomenal. Metallica should add it to more of their setlists in the future because it is an amazing song.
@@johnkatsoudas4767 Agree 100%
Favorite Metallica album for me. I love James' vocals and the way the album just has an ominous and dark sound it.
It's the reverb in the sound .. love this album !!
Guys please do Trapped Under Ice, from this record. This is such an underrated but great song. WHY DID NOT METALLICA PLAY THIS ON THE GIG IN ANTARCTICA
Trapped Under Ice is probably their most underrated song on this album.
The whole solo section of this song is my favorite part of any Metallica song.
One of the two songs on the album with Dave Mustaine as a credited song writer. The guitar tones on the album are great. Master would have an overall better mix but thr guitars set a standard for thrash tones. This album was my introduction to this band.

"You guys are never ever in your life gonna find a channel like Vin and Sori"
Probably true
I rather just see her reaction, don't care to keep seeing his dumb air guitar thing.
RIP Cliff...Surprised Vin hadn't heard this before, This is one of their bigger tunes. Had this on Cassette, Record/Viynl, and CD at one point in time, Think I still have the CD somewhere.
I also thought the cover was a microphone when I first saw it. Then I put the record on and looked at it at the same time. Quite a realization.
Metallica - Fixxxer I've been waiting for someone to finally get to it.
Gayle-Ann Rumsby and starting that one up...now!
Yesss!
INCREDIBLE album, literally. It was exactly what I was Hungry for back in the mid 80s, PERFECT album for me back then.
So let me get this straight.....Vin is a huge Metallica fan ,but has never heard this before and he always thought it was a microphone and not an electric chair on the cover of Ride the Lightning? Now that's some phony crap.
Hahahaha
Thought th exact same thing! They're bout as big of Metal fans as I am a rap fan. Jus trying 2 make $$ from UA-cam & Patreon. Every1 who's seen movies knows ' Ride the Lightning ' means electric chair, none th less a " supposed " Metal fan!
Who cares? Not everyone has or wants to dig out every single song from an artist if they're comfortable listening to only a select few songs. Stop being such an edgy elitist.
When i first saw the album cover i thought it was a microphone, but i thought that can't be right, i looked at it again an then i saw the electric chair. And when i heard strapped in the electric chair for the first time then i felt stupid. But then again i was 15 when i fisrt heard it, i am 29 now.I
@@Leafsfan91 how does a chair look like a microphone? I dont get it
Hello from Brazil !! I love United states, and metallica!! We love vin and sory!!!!!!
clicked so fast. just got the lightening backpatch on my battle jacket \m/
Yeah, for long time I thought that was a mic too, just until I analize the cover closer. You are not alone, Vin. welcome to the club.
One of the greatest metal songs ever 🤘🎸🥁🎤
My introduction to Metallica was this album. It started with a question about a metal up your ass shirt. My friend didn't have his "Kill em All" cassette handy, but we listened to Ride The Lightning. This was all a few weeks before Master of Puppets came out. Those 2 albums are still my favorite Metallica albums. Songs are amazing.
You should do Trapped Under Ice. Underrated gem
I love this song and album, my favorite from them!
I used to have the tshirt with the glow in the dark skeleton dude getting electri- fried on it. I remember wearing it to the movies.
What's with the song audio? Sounds lower and slower. Is that the video that was used or was something done during the editing process?
Yessssss, you're reacting to my suggestion
Love the Tremonti shirt Sori!
The LIVE version, "Day on the Green 1985" concert is so good, y'all should check it out! It's about a guy wrongfully convicted an sentenced to death in an electric chair, hence ride the lightening..........
That performance is worth it alone, just to watch a young headbanging Cliff Burton.
The first line is "Guilty as charged".....not sure he's innocent....
Ooooh they listened to it “a half step down” (Eb) version 😍
Metallica - The Outlaw Torn, Judas Kiss, or Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg is a cover
Eduardo Pinto and?
I want to see their reaction for Am I Evil. The lyrics might shock them.
Vin, you amaze me with your knowledge of the Scriptures. GOD Bless and keep being you!
Spare the 99 for the 1.
do you no wat version of ride the lightning is cause its a bit slowed and its amazing
Cool little main riff there by MegaDave 🤘🎸
One of the greatest metal albums of all time hands down. I think as an album I prefer it over master but master slightly beats it just to the overall impact it had on music.
Love the Tremonti shirt!
I also thought it was a microphone until I bought a "ride the lighting"-shirt and I suddenly realised what´s on it. xD
You HAVE to check out Trapped Under Ice from this album. TOTAL BANGER and one of my favorites from them. Highly underrated song.
Heh...damn bro.... I gotta call into question you not knowing that was an electric chair. And yes, that album was FIRE.
How could he be a Metallica fan and not notice, haha. Literally says, “strapped in the electric chair”. Edited for fucked up spelling
My Favorite Metallica guitar solo ever, fucking love it.
I wore my Ride the Lightning shirt and then this popped up, WHAT THE HELL?
You guys should react to the live version of this from Mexico 2009. It's insane
ahhhh my high school years ..... the memories
Way back when, when I bought my first stereo system and was picking out speakers, i made the salesman play this tape. Creeping Death specifically. I bought the speakers.
React to Metallica - So what (Most emotional song ever)

04:11 yeah same man, I also thought that it is a microphone
This album is up there in my top 3 of Metallica albums...This song is one of my favorites and this solo is one of Kirk's best...
Now that....... is what I am talking!
Early Metallica... raw and focused
Man I miss those days
This and Blackened my two favorite Metallica solos
My very first Metallica album. Fade to Black is my favorite Metallica song to this day.
They finally reacted to their best song
Moonspell - Full Moon Madness
Moonspell - Night Eternal
Dude i've never seen someone as dedicated as u lol. Hope they react to your songs :D
Love moonspell anything from wolfheart or irreligious would be Amazing
It's foreign to me that you saw a microphone and then realized it's an electric chair.
Over the last 30 years I've owned multiple copies of RTL in multiple formats and never thought that it could be anything other than an electric chair.
But it does look like a microphone. And it makes me wonder how many other people think it's a microphone.
It's very odd to see a very familiar picture for 30 years and then have the processing of that image turned on its side. Thank you for that.
clicked ASAP when I saw this one !!
I suggest a metallica instrumental. It's called Suicide and Redemption. I seen you did the others. You'll love this one. It's off of their death magnetic album.
You should really check out the finale of this perfect album. Call of ktulu, their best instrumental imo. Cheers!
Music that brings feelings like the ones you feel when you hear this kind of music will never be made again
Definitely, spare the 99 for the one. Great review!
@ 4:06 When Vin and Sori realize yet another layer of AWESOMENESS lol
Perfect song to drum out my panic attacks, when I could drum!
I think every song on this album deserves a review....or a just a listen at the least.
My favorite Metallica songs
1.) Ride the Lightning
2.) Through the Never
3.) Holier than Thou
4.) Whiplash
5.) Damage Inc.
6.) Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
7.) The Day that Never Comes
