You honestly gave some really great advice. I have fallen into the seasonal waifu trap far too many times to count. Like you explained, it's smart to really reassess how much you really want that character and if this will be a character you will feel strongly about when you finally recieve the figure in another year. I guess the tough part is being worried you won't get that figure immediately, upon release if you don't preorder.
I think that's the issue. But then again it's important to wonder how sad you'd be if you didn't get ay all. I know I've had some knee jerk responses and ordered figures I shouldn't have.
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Exactly! I’m a big Nendoroid collector and I have so many preorders of waifus I love already in. Plus, Nendoroids are almost always available after release. But then the voice in my heart tells me just to preorder them anyway so I can garauntee I have them in hand asap.
@@lock8030 Tbh I think the only difficult nendoroids as of late has been Gura. I know a few early Hololive girls like Marine were harder to get but then they seem to be pretty available now.
I think this advice is really valuable, especially as tbh the aftermarket works both ways, if you're not sure if you're interested in a figure you can wait till it releases and then pick it up then! I've got a few figures which I like but don't necessarily love, but I've talked to my brother and friends who are interested and got the a ok to pass on these figures to them if I ever want to part with them, so that's another safety net I use when putting money down for a figure - that I know I may pass it on and just consider it almost a gift etc
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector You got be quick with the scales it's weird I've seen them rise in prices recently but when they first came out I think there were places where they had actually dipped in price!
I'm still as obsssed with Rozen Maiden as I was over ten years ago, so when I saw that they are dropping the nendoroids for all the girls I knew I had to collect them! However, right now I'm on a really tight budget but I saw that someone wanted to sell their unopened Hinaichigo that released last month I sent a cheeky offer and he countered that with another reatively low offer (there wasn't really a lot of buzz, not many had saved the listing) that I accepted. So my first ever figure and nendoroid is on her way right now! I'm very excited! Though I assume that the person getting rid of her had fallen into the exact same trap that you explained. She has an exceptionally cute design so I can see it very easy to fall for her cuteness. I'm planning to get all of the girls, they can stand beside my manga collection of the series plus my acrylic stands of them. It's important to buy things with your heart!
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Yep! Rozen Maiden in particular seems to have gotten a lot of love lately, perhaps due to the release of the anniversary manga edition. My only nitpick is that the new nendoroids look so much better than those released ten years ago (Shinku and Suigintou). I've too noticed that there's a lot of new nendoroids for older series, which makes me happy since those often are the series that I still enjoy to this day. We can only hope for more.
The canceling orders from AmiAmi is a misconception, if you're not a frequent buyer from AmiAmi then they'll let you cancel 1 order, but because I continuously buy from AmiAmi they let me get away with canceling 3-4 orders throughout the year.
Yeah I hear a lot of conflicting things. I went off the old way where if it was more than once you'd be in trouble. But they apparently laxed this during COVID. Some people saying they still get told off after a few while others are saying they're cancelling tons as long as it's before invoice date.
Many people don't know, but they recently changed these rules, basically they let you cancel if you are someone who doesn't have a history of failing to pay invoices, being a frequent customer probably helps though.
These are some really good points, that being said. That's why I like action figures, as they allow me to keep experiment/practicing posing figures so that they never end up just becoming expensive paperweights. I also only ever buy figures of my absolute favorite characters or animes.
I actually had to think about it, but the only figures in my collection I'm not quite sure about have been presents from other people (now that I'm an adult I can buy my own figures finally, so that won't likely happen again) and a few nendos from a series I obsessed over for years and while I'm not as into it nowadays, it's hard to let go... I don't own many expensive figures as I'm still a student, so I think it makes a difference: if I don't quite love a 30 buck prize figure, that doesn't make me feel as bad as a figure 100 and up. On that note, goodsmile's pop up parade is great for me, because they aren't that expensive and release relatively quickly, but they also have a lot of different series and characters! I haven't been able to find any hololive merch where I live, until I found the pop up parade figures, so now I finally have some to display, very happy!
Honestly, the Pop Up Parade line gets a lot of hate from the wider community as some feel the quality isn't there. But most of the ones I've seen are just lovely and hit that nice sweet spot between Scales and Prize Figures for not a ton more than Prizes. Hopefully, you can find more Hololive merch soon!
When i see uzaki at your thumbnail, i really feel the same as your explanation on this video... not so long ago i really want to buy uzaki figure, until i realized i don't really want the figure in my collection even though she is in my top 5 waifu, thats because before then i already bought mamako figure and thats the first time i realized not to buy any seasonal waifu too soon... or maybe because i am a nico Robin+Chopper fan just like you ... thanks for sharing your story
Losing interest is one thing. Imagine being a fan of, like, Rushia, and your preordered figures arrive months after the incident. 1 year anniversary btw.
This is a great advice, as someone who have been collecting since 2012? I have fallen into it. Now my rule is just buy figures from games where generally you spend more time with the characters and see the appreciation. Im still very cautious, after this rule my yearly preorders went from over 20 preorders to 5 and so far only have 2 for next year and Good Smile recent announcements didnt have anything interesting for me, so as long as they dont release anything from the lines im collecting Im save.
I'm gonna be honest the recent Goodsmile announcements was pretty dire. I mainly buy hololive and I don't think there was anything new there. Just the same protos we've seen over the last year.
This also applies to "seasonal" franchises as a whole too but these may take much longer, not sure if i can fully agree on the value part, some franchises go out of fashion so hard the value decreases hard aswell (but it may take a while). The biggest example i can think of is Kantai Collection and possibly Azur Lane will have the same fate too eventually. Kantai collection had a bunch of figures that one could consider grails, some very expensive ones that in the aftermarket went up to about 35,000 yen in auctions or amiami, this lasted for a number of years even during it's decrease of popularity, but some years later these same ones drop down to 9000 yen or so while also being many of them available for purchase right now in amiami, what i notice too is that figures with unnecessary big boxes are slowly growing out of fashion (i hope) because want i tend to see is that figures with unnecessarily huge boxes tend to get discounted harder (preowned or new), not even shops such as amiami want to store them and want to get rid of them i suspect. I think this will happen too with Atelier Ryza, manufacturers probalby know this thats why they are milking these thighs as much and as quickly as they can while the popularity lasts, patience pays off in this hobby/business.
Big boxes mean bigger shipping costs. So people tend to not want them. I know I don't wanna pay the same price for shipping as the figure. But I feel Kantai and Azur have good runs. Same with the likes of Girls Und Panzer. These franchises also seem to get juuuust enough that drags people back in too.
Same thing for me. I preordered a figure, realized I didn't want them anymore, but kept it anyway, so I wouldn't be banned from AmiAmi. Thankfully, I am so happy with the quality of it.
As someone who has been collecting anime/game figures since 2008 this is 100% the best advice you can give someone especially at this point in time with how seasonal anime and merch works. A lot of the big series in a season people stop caring about and move onto the next big thing in the next season. The only big thing I got figures for that I lost interest in pretty quickly was AoT. I was a big Fate fan and played Japanese FGO before the english version came out. The boom of nendoroids after the english FGO release did get me buying the nendoroids for characters I only had a semi interest in. It got the point of having a list of the characters im actually invested in and now its at the point for as a whole if only the characters on that list get figures ill actually buy them. Its been about 5 years since I made that rule and I've only brought 2 figures since. One was a resale of the old Dark Magician scale and the other was Klonoa nendoroid which was something I had on my hopefully one day but likely will never happen list. I do have Alucard pre ordered as well cause he was a nice surprise. Also theyre a lot less common now but were big years ago, trading figures unless theyre from a big longer running IP try and avoid them. If you lose interest in the series theyre such a hassle to try and re-sell.
Exactly! I spent several thousands buying figures for series I hardly care for, just in the last year alone. It was so bad that I basically had orders coming every week. I was really disgusted with myself for quite some time. Since the year started, I worked on getting rid of most of my collection and working towards a collection that better defines me.
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Of course! I now since moved away from waifu figures and started collecting from series I grew up with and have been with me for at least a decade. It's still something I really enjoy.
I got some Pop Up Parade characters which, don't cost much but are just wasting space on my shelf. I don't appreciate them but I'd rather have them there than nothing. Probably could have gotten better figures rather than those figures.
Good point, i started my collection just getting characters that i really like, example im a big transformers fan and i like a lot of then but im not getting every single one of then, i have a soundwave masterpiece style wich is my fav and thats good for me , maybe i get another character but im not obsessed with getting too much
I started collecting Figma (from AmiAmi) mainly back in 2015, along with everything Predator and I cancelled about 4-5 times late 2015 alone LOL. Never got shadow banned but I've CERTAINLY heard it happening, especially these years
honestly. you helped me a decent amount. i got a 400 dollar credit on my FNC account because a statue got cancelled and i was debating on what to spend it on... went back and forth on 5 seasonal waifus.... ended up going with a sasha from AOT statue since its my 2nd favorite all time series. because it makes sense based on what you said!
Yaay so nice to meet a fellow British collector! I regretted 2 figures in my collection, one the paintwork just didn’t turn out as nice as the promo pics (kurumi oiran version by kadokawa) the other was usada Mimi illustrated by saitom, while I love saitom’s work usada had huge qc issues and breaking her bikini while unboxing her really ruined the experience of the figure 😭

Tifa, I loved her from my first intro to her in April 2020; but she’s expensive in terms of figures….still want them. But yeah I understand what you mean.
I pre-ordered the Zagreus figure from The game Hades off of Dekai Anime. I am in Scotland and all the proxy sites and amiami etc scares me due to shipping costs. I have loved him since the game released on beta so he is a definate keeper.....example of not......I had a few kingdom hearts figures....I stopped playing after KH2 and never went back. I ended up parting with my figures so I totally get that.....make sure that figures you want are ones you will always enjoy! I still collect FFVII figures and DBZ figures and I have been in their fandoms for about 20 years. Have a lovely Xmas!!!
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector I had never heard of that site! Thanks! I will check it out. Dekai is good but quite a lot of the time, when something is out of stock....it may remain out of stock forever. I have had a few figures on my alerts on Dekai and they have never come in sadly
I like this take… I do have a few that I retreat getting, but I’m pretty picky with what I want to get…. Most of my figures are from series that are like super old (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, etc). I kind of want an Uzaki chan figure… I still have the second season on my recorder but haven’t watched it.
the funny thing is if your an artist going to convention chasing the seasonal things its probably profitable. you see this because its the popular season ones that are cosplayed all the time. for older rarer anime you dont see much art being made for it. there might be a market going against the market but its mostly people chasing the market.
0:28-0:37 That is by far the smartest question I've ever heard. People really need to dig deep an really think about it before buying a character. (I've made this mistake with the show RWBY)
I noticed I stopped buying seasonal anime figures not because I don’t like the characters ie anya, and makima. But mostly because I got into a mobile game and they make figures for that and I see myself enjoying the game for quite some time
Yea I only just seen that AmiAmi don’t like you cancelling figures, I’ve only just started using them and didn’t know that. I have been buying all my figures from BBTS and you can cancel as many items as you like from them, you just go into your preorders and delete it. But some of the larger items you have to pay a deposit, but for Nendoroids I just buy them from there, they’re more expensive but the shipping and customs is cheaper.
I’ve canceled way more than three to four this year lmaooo 😶🌫️ they currently* as I’m posting this don’t ban for canceling pre invoice, this has been confirmed by their live chat, a lot of people in the community’s I’m in have canceled upward of a few hundred pre orders at once. I’ve probably canceled 10+ this year, but I only started collecting during the half way mark
Thank you for your advice. It really made me learn that I should buy figures of characters that I actually love and not because they look pretty and aesthetically pleasing. Also, as a huge Thomas and Friends fan, I love that you used one of its original songs as background music. ☺️
My rule is: if the anime and/or the character hits me in a way on that moment that I watched, I'm considering got something from that character, even if I gonna lost interesting about them in the future, but I still got some memories about that feeling when I look at
the conclusion that i immediately have is "sega spm cleopatra looks dope, i want to display her at my room". it doesn't have to be from a specific series or character, my criteria is whether it looks cool or not.
i remember when i had a lot of waifus back then, but when i met monika from doki doki literature club everything changed man, she just hits different on me, she has been my waifu for over 2 years now, i got her nendoroid 1 week ago and im very happy with it
I just buy Nendoroids for putting around my manga, I have a few scale figures around them too. But I’m going to have to buy those glass shelves to put these things.
I have quite a few figures, mostly Rem, and so far I have no regrets, the only thing that I do not like is the price on some of the figures, so I have to budget wisely.
sadly, this wont work for me, i buy figure's because they're pretty so weather or not I even know the character is unimportant. Half off my figure collection is from anime I haven't even watched. However a good way to limit yourself if you're like me is to either stick with a theme or don't buy figures that don't have interesting poses or outfits. The worst mistake you can make as a "pretty" figure collector is filling your collection with 100s of boring standing pose girls wearing boring things.
Yeah... I looked at many nendroids of my favorites and came really close with Roxy's to pre-order. BUT prices are hilarious for them atm. I would rather have 2-3 prize figures than a nendroid and if I really like a character I'll go with a nice scale figure. That is how I ended up with the Roxy figure from the show. I also started to build GK figures so depending on how it goes I may end up not buying figures in the future.

I'm going to start collecting this year by purchasing a nendoroid of Skadi from Arknights, and will be preordering her Alter version which looks phenomenol sometime soon. She's been my waifu for two years now and counting and such I'm sure I would want her. I would only collect figures of my waifus from games that I have played especially gacha games.
so far I haven't regretted a single purchase - though after a while now that I got a better paying job i kinda wished I P.O. the uzaki chan nendo and 1/4 bunny figure... ah well. I'm sure there are people near me who fell into that trap and will take a bit of an L and sell them.

I tend to find it's scale figures that when I miss out I regret them. I missed Fubuki and Melia (Xenoblade) and they're expensive now. :(
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector You got be quick with the scales it's weird I've seen them rise in prices recently but when they first came out I think there were places where they had actually dipped in price!
That's great! I am liking that Goodsmile seem to be doing more classic series like Rozen Maiden, Reborn and Ouran. It gives me hope for Eyeshield 21
When i see uzaki at your thumbnail, i really feel the same as your explanation on this video... not so long ago i really want to buy uzaki figure, until i realized i don't really want the figure in my collection even though she is in my top 5 waifu, thats because before then i already bought mamako figure and thats the first time i realized not to buy any seasonal waifu too soon... or maybe because i am a nico Robin+Chopper fan just like you ... thanks for sharing your story
thanks!
I thought this video was like 10years old until I saw the Hololive Figures xD
You really capture that old UA-cam Feeling perfectly! I love it ^^
Thanks!
Losing interest is one thing. Imagine being a fan of, like, Rushia, and your preordered figures arrive months after the incident.
1 year anniversary btw.
I have the Rushia nendoroid and not unboxed her. It was a sad incident but I think if you like the character enough you'll still appreciate the fugure
Facts. Figuring out the one's you deeply resonate with will help you eliminate unnecessary purchases.
Ensures all your collection is bangers, and will save a bit of money too
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Hella bangers! Keeps em tight for the showcase.
Have a
Nice Christmas!!!!🎄🎄🎄
Have a great Christmas!
Great comment.
Meanwhile there's me, 4 years, almost 5 years after the anime aired 1st and I got insane about Himesaka Noa, I finally get a figure of her...
Exactly! I spent several thousands buying figures for series I hardly care for, just in the last year alone. It was so bad that I basically had orders coming every week. I was really disgusted with myself for quite some time.
Since the year started, I worked on getting rid of most of my collection and working towards a collection that better defines me.
Glad to hear you've came to a resolution with your collection! Are you excited to collect again?
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Of course! I now since moved away from waifu figures and started collecting from series I grew up with and have been with me for at least a decade. It's still something I really enjoy.
What Anime figures did you regret buying?
I got some Pop Up Parade characters which, don't cost much but are just wasting space on my shelf. I don't appreciate them but I'd rather have them there than nothing. Probably could have gotten better figures rather than those figures.
@@copycruel I'm somewhat the same with Pop Up Parades. They're nice and all but they felt like a stop-gap before getting the Nendoroids for me.
Probably won’t start collecting until I am done with college but I will definitely keep this in mind
Have you got any figure in mind for your first one?
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector probably some One Piece ones
Good choice
Good point, i started my collection just getting characters that i really like, example im a big transformers fan and i like a lot of then but im not getting every single one of then, i have a soundwave masterpiece style wich is my fav and thats good for me , maybe i get another character but im not obsessed with getting too much
I started collecting Figma (from AmiAmi) mainly back in 2015, along with everything Predator and I cancelled about 4-5 times late 2015 alone LOL. Never got shadow banned but I've CERTAINLY heard it happening, especially these years
4:02, Where did you get that Nico Robin figure in the back?! The one in Black that looks like the Miss All Sunday figure.
Its an unofficial Resin. Bought it about 13 or so years ago off a site that no longer exists
honestly. you helped me a decent amount. i got a 400 dollar credit on my FNC account because a statue got cancelled and i was debating on what to spend it on... went back and forth on 5 seasonal waifus.... ended up going with a sasha from AOT statue since its my 2nd favorite all time series. because it makes sense based on what you said!
You'll probably appreciate her more than the seasonal you'll forget later in the year
I’ve canceled like 20 times on amiami and they haven’t done anything to me
Yaay so nice to meet a fellow British collector!
Ah man ive only broken two when opening. One was the Robin B.B and other was Megumin figma
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector oh no! 🫣 I’ve had a couple arrived broken but I’ve been so lucky it’s always been clean breaks on seamlines so you couldn’t even tell but yes… this one you definitely can 🥲 ah well lesson learnt! If that’s my worst experience I’m doing very well I’m sure 😁
Never used Dekai Anime. I know Scotland has access to Korekuta who are local and usually at conventions too
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector I had never heard of that site! Thanks! I will check it out. Dekai is good but quite a lot of the time, when something is out of stock....it may remain out of stock forever. I have had a few figures on my alerts on Dekai and they have never come in sadly
@@Nautinthislifetime Tbh they probably only get allocated a certain amount of stock :(
I like this take… I do have a few that I retreat getting, but I’m pretty picky with what I want to get….
Yeah you really gotta go with the trends as a creator to be big.
The last con I went to was all Genshin art, like 90% of it.
What's that wano nami figure you have there? oh and that one piece character with pink hair in a red suit
Portrait of Pirates. Pink hair is Hina
0:28-0:37 That is by far the smartest question I've ever heard. People really need to dig deep an really think about it before buying a character. (I've made this mistake with the show RWBY)
Oof yeah RWBY was definitely one that was popular then everyone hated
I think its more recent that they changed it so if you cancel before an invoice its ok
Amiami won't ban you if you cancel before you recieve the invoice, unless you are doing it extremely excessively
From what I've seen it varies. Some I've seen said two in a year and they got canned, another said four.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, “gimme the Uzaki-Chan nadroid”
Thank you for your advice. It really made me learn that I should buy figures of characters that I actually love and not because they look pretty and aesthetically pleasing.
Also, as a huge Thomas and Friends fan, I love that you used one of its original songs as background music. ☺️
Glad it helped!
Yeah Thomas OST is super good
remember to put a tube with an air pump inside those so to prevent getting sticky
mis-read this as stinky XD But good tip. Thanks!
My rule is: if the anime and/or the character hits me in a way on that moment that I watched, I'm considering got something from that character, even if I gonna lost interesting about them in the future, but I still got some memories about that feeling when I look at
good rule
the conclusion that i immediately have is "sega spm cleopatra looks dope, i want to display her at my room".
it doesn't have to be from a specific series or character, my criteria is whether it looks cool or not.
As long as you have some attachment to the character or design it's fine.
Buying for the sake of buying never ends well in the long run.
it's ok to use the site with free cancelation such as amiami
i remember when i had a lot of waifus back then, but when i met monika from doki doki literature club everything changed man, she just hits different on me, she has been my waifu for over 2 years now, i got her nendoroid 1 week ago and im very happy with it
Congrats! Her nendoroid looks really cute!
I just buy Nendoroids for putting around my manga, I have a few scale figures around them too. But I’m going to have to buy those glass shelves to put these things.
Detolfs? I'd not put manga in those. They're better for a few scales tbh
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Yea that’s what I mean, I need somewhere to put the scales I’m getting because at the moment they’re all just on shelves.
@@InfamyOrDeath-__- Makes sense! I only have one set of glass door shelves so a lot of my better ones go in there.

Just (rem)ember that you don't need all of them! So get the ones you like most and save for the others
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Love what you did there 😄, and thank you
sadly, this wont work for me, i buy figure's because they're pretty so weather or not I even know the character is unimportant.
That's fair
Tbh I don't think I'd ever be in a position where I'd want a Prize figure over a nendoroid. But I find Prizes to be horribly overpriced these days.
And Roxy from Mushoku Tensei?
@@The_Anime_Figure_Collector Tbh everithing is overpriced atm. I have a couple EXO figures from the Monogatari Series and they are delightful.

Glad to hear it hadn't happened to you yet. Hopefully it stays that way
Honestly, I disagree with the point about amiami, most of the time as long as you cancel before it has come in stock with a decent reason you can cancel more than you think! You can always speak to their live chat and ask if your account is in good standing before you cancel
