- This post is sort of null & void at this point. I have since replaced my driver & passenger door locks with complete new units but there is still knowledge to be passed in this post and maybe it will help someone else out there in MGC-Land.
After purchasing my MGC at auction I soon realized that I did not have a working key for the passenger door. The car came with 4 keys including one which started the car, one that opened the glove box and one that opened the drivers door and boot lid (trunk) and a seemingly useless 4th key that did not open/operate anything in/on the vehicle. The passenger door was a mystery, none of the keys would open/lock this door although some of them would fit in the lock.
This post will show you how to modify the lock assembly of a door so that any key of your choice (that physically fits in the lock) will open/lock the door. - Авто та транспорт
After 20 Yrs. of passenger door lock not working on my Midget, this video allow me to fix the problem. Wonderful and thank you.
Happy to help get your Midget fixed the way it should be.
thank you very much i did the same for my car and working beautifully
Happy to help.
Well done - true the narrative was a tad 'roundabout' but so has my adventure of trying to sort it out - the 'U' lock washer and lock activator ( downward to right ) was all important. Turns out on my door things have had slight modifications with the net result that locking screws are too long and 'foul the 1/4 turn ability of lock activator to rotate. Thanks for the effort ( 67 MGB RHD Australia
Appreciate the comments, thank you.
Great video
Thank you.
Very informative, been a great help cheers
My pleasure.
When you replace lock mechanism the door lock fork was up and forward. When inserting lack mechanism in fork it was facing down and forward. Did I miss something? Thanks, Ken
When you initially insert it, do so up and forward. The fork may fall down so that it looks down and forward but the cutout that the fork pin hits to stop its movement should remain up and forward. I hope that makes sense.
What is the service manual you are using

Duuuuuuude do all of your fiddling, toying around and contemplating how to approach your delivery of the project BEFORE you record to demonstrate things for others. You mean well but dang it's hard to listen to you. It's like your triple thinking everything before you say it.
Thanks for the advice, and I've heard that one before. In all honesty though sometimes the viewer's are going to have to bear with me as I learn how to do the job that they're watching. I don't get paid a cent to do this and have a normal full time job so I don't have time to do jobs twice or write out a script for the camera. I'm a novice and am learning as I go. As it is, I probably take twice as long to do a job than I really need to because of all the camera work and other behind the scenes stuff. I have no more time to spare perfecting the audio commentary. Hope it helped despite the boredom.
@@JRsGarage Hi, Have started to view your videos, I like the speed and explanation, thanks. I looked at this one particularly as I am trying to remove the door lock on my 1980 MGB, do you have any videos on this as it should be easy, but I cannot find the clip folks talk about that holds the lock in the door. Thanks.
Not specifically on the lock but this other video might help a bit. ua-cam.com/video/mBmdqfxibs4/v-deo.html
Thanks for taking the time to upload this video, it's really helpful.
My pleasure.
