So much of what Trevor said resonates with me. I’m mistrusting of people but am overly trustworthy to compensate. In my mind I’d be the ideal person for someone else but don’t trust anyone to be like that with me which in turn turns people away from me. I’m intentionally closed off so I never get put into a situation where I’ll get hurt, self sabotage. But something I long for is connection.

I HIGHLY recommend attachment style theory for everyone. It can be an absolute eye-opener. Not necessarily to save a relationship you are currently in, but to learn about yourself, your emotions, and eventually get better. Childhood trauma can be repaired, and hypervigilance and mistrust can be replaced with a secure view on all kinds of relationships, not just romantic ones.

The point about parents losing credibility is SO real, especially when one parent is abusive and the other tries to pretend like everything is fine and keep telling you ‘he’ll be better this time’. My mom kept giving my alcoholic narcissistic dad second chances, never once a consequences for his childish tantrum meltdowns where he could get so violent and aggressive, and after a while ur parents are not ur parents anymore, becuz ur the one having to be self-sufficient and acting mature and completely composed trying to prevent ur abusive parent from blowing up again, appeasing and pleasing them all the time, walking on eggshells every day becuz ur other parent can’t assure you the very basic necessity of safety & security. By that time they can say all they fucking want but they’ve lost all credibility as a parent and you feel like you can’t depend on others, never trust to ask for help or trust people again.

I feel like people think that when they get into a relationship, everything is going to get better and they're pain will alleviate and human flight is possible, etc. And they also think that not being in a relationship makes them weak or they are missing out. But, i see getting into a relationship like making your first million. Sometimes you make it in your 20s, sometimes in your 50s. You could lose it completely. Or make more. Its a game of chance and sometimes you find a great one, other times you could end up abused or cheated on. Take your time, get your shit together. Find the right one. I mean. We all saw what Courtney love did to Kurt Cobain. And we saw his down fall. Guy had it all, but couldn't handle the stress, the physical pain, and the mental pain. Thought the fame and girl would fix him. It didn't. Snl had a skit where adam sandler is a tour guide. And hes like: visiting another country wont cure your depression. You're the same sad guy in italy as you were in the US. 😅

Trevor Noah’s childhood is more or less closest to the opposite of what i’ve had to go through. i’ve been told my whole life i’m never gonna be good at anything only to find out i might be a “genius” who’s been dumped down my whole life and now accepting the fact that i am better than i’ve always been told is a completely different nuance that’s tricky and difficult to accept.
i need help getting past that

@@mohauntabanyane8713 sorry to break it to you but the human brain is not primed to look for the truth, it's primed for survival and that involves keeping us away from negative emotions and constantly creating narratives for justifying that avoidance.
Emotions are a real thing that absolutely drives human behavior as much, or sometimes even more, than logic.
If people are aware of this fact they can actually see the truth and not let their brain lie to them and hide behind a false sense of logic.
In reality, judging someone for acknowledging how emotion affect their judgment, and feeling better then them is just your brain pumping up your ego and keeping those negative emotions hidden under the false sense of logic.

I don't always get the "Blocks" aspect of the full pod, though it seems like they're representative mental blocks for the subject of the interview. Sorry if this ruins the joke of it. The pace makes it difficult for me to catch on to the production of that aspect of the narrative you try to cultivate within this box. All those notes aside. This works better for me; admittedly because the subject matter resonates with me. Well done, jog on[not British, just like the turn of phrase].
