Yeah, but I didn't get it. I got whupped as a kid, dealt with bullies, and usually Burr just kills me but this must be some kind of inside comic comedy you have to be a comic to understand. Either that or it's all just subjective, comedy is. What just kills one person, leaves another sitting there going WTF?
I think it’s pretty rare that people really speak their mind on live TV. I feel like Bill Burr is one of the rare persons to be able to do that without fearing the consequences.
Probably one of the reasons Nia married him. Her mother probably loves him since they share a sense of humor, and Nia understands that Bill's humor isn't meanspirited.
Used to think she was annoying.. it’s the voice. But she’s been cool since she’s become a mom, from the little bit I’ve heard on his podcast, love bill so gotta love nia!
What I love is that Bill and his mother-in-law have the same sense of humor. To being the same room with them must be hilarious and shocking at the same time. 🤦🏾♀️😂
I have rewatched all the times Bill Burr was on Conan's show dozens of times and this one is even more off the rails than anything that was ever aired on NBC. The way that Conan gets him to go off and just adds fuel onto the fire is a beautiful thing to behold.
He explicitly said that he had even worse stuff and instead of trying to change the subject to keep things "safe", Conan said "well, you may as well get it out now" because he knew this bit was legendary. He literally had Conan in tears at one point because as much as Conan has to hold on to his professional image, Conan and Bill have a very similar sense of humor having grown up in the same timeframe and having experienced many of the same things. Conan has always understood Bill in a way that other hosts just don't and that is why Bill has always had his best talk show bits when he's with Conan.
I love how bills statements can make an entire crowd pull back across the room from him for a minute. But his genuine humor, approach to a subject and self analysis and criticism bring them right back to both laughing or actually agreeing with him by the end of it.
It's great. Like he said, you're not supposed to laugh at the stuff he laughs about. But when he explains it, you know he's right and agree with his view.
I think it has to do with how he said it though. When he said "some dude beat up his wife," he said it without a smile, abruptly, while having a cold look, and after "introducing it" by saying they wouldn't laugh because they're told not to. If he had dropped the preamble and continued speaking while laughing, the reaction would be better, I think.
Like the fact that he says "I'm not mature enough to feel bad"... makes him the butt of the joke. People are laughing at his ridiculousness rather than laughing at the victim
🤣 The laughing at the messed up stuff is relatable. Watching the Big Lebowski and Donnie’s funeral had me on the floor dying. I couldn’t breathe for a good minute.
When Bill starts to talk about controversial stuff he changes his posture and looks straight at Conan and I start dying every time he does that😂 reminds me of that friend who won’t stop talking even when the whole class is silent just looking at you.
I always feel like he’s reading the response. Like, he wants it to be uncomfortable and controversial, but he always seems to know where the lines are and he doesn’t quite cross them
Imagine if WILL SMITH tried to do a 'bit' on "Precious". AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAA! Maybe HE'S the one who beat up that chick who Bill was mentioning, LOL... omg... I'm dyin', lol. Will Smith 'punching Precious' would be a great CGPT topic. Make THAT viral, will ya?! hahahahahahahaaa
I wonder if it's him being aware of himself and his own feelings, well-thought. And he's able to put everything into words, which avoids a lot of misunderstandings.
I love Bill Burr so much. His definition of the news is exactly what I have always thought but never put into words. "I don't even know what the news is. Here's bunch of stuff you can't fix and is horrible." Pretty much, Bill.
Same!!! I stopped watching years ago . I read news that’s relevant to me and where I live . I don’t need to read about a guy chopping up his wife and kids in Iowa. What purpose does that serve ? This is the issue with 24 hour news . In order to keep people tuned in they have to go deeper in the crap every time
It doesn't help either that the news isn't even the news anymore and hasn't been since the 2000s. It's just partisan hack opinion pieces shaping people's views and dumbing down the country under the guise of "news".
There is always the one parent with a sense of humor and one stone face. My dad and I are exactly the same. We joke about anything and everything and my mum just gets up and walks out half the time. She will laugh at stuff when it is really funny though I mean when people around you are laughing you kind of can't help it.
Joan Rivers would never have had a career today, she made fun of the painful things that exist around us to get through painful things and mostly made fun of her own shortcomings, so self deprecating, knowing laughter is the best medicine. But now you can’t make a joke about race, color, religion, gender or risk being erased, what a dull, boring, and over sensitive society we’ve become, not knowing 50 years ago almost every kid got picked on at some point and we never got hugs or coddled when we went home in tears, no participation trophy if we failed miserably at anything, it only made us stronger, try harder, and achieve more. We now realize that the bullies were really the weak ones and didn’t amount to much. But there’s no way to teach kids what you know 50 years later. You can pick them up when they fall, but too much will make them too fragile, dependent, boring without a sense of humor, which is why 20 something’s are triggered by everything and tend not to be funny.

One of the most retold stories about my childhood is about a vacation my family took to Colorado. I was probably 3-4 years old. I saw this guy playing with a cool yoyo in a gift shop and I thought it was so cool. I asked my parents to buy me one and they said no, so I started wail crying for about an hour straight screaming "I wanna yoyo". Eventually I finally calmed down and stopped screaming. At this point my dad turns to me in the car and said "hey lotrfan, do you want a yoyo?" and I said through my tears "yes". Then he says "WELL YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE". I start wailing again and the entire car is pissed at my dad. Absolute legend.
Bill Burr is precious. And as someone who developed a dark sense of humor as a defense mechanism to deal with traumatic things in life, I totally get him. He’s also extremely smart, and I dig it. Kudos, Bill! You’re a legend.

What Conan says about so much care and attention being given to children resonates with me. Children are so much better at navigating life than adults give them credit for. My mother always said kids only need 2 things: Someone to run to when they scrape their knee, and cake on their birthdays. That's it. Obviously that's grossly simplified but children aren't pieces of clay to be moulded, they're plants that just need water and nutrients to grow into a complete person.
Kids are smarter than adults that’s the key ingredient to Wes Anderson’s movies & why they are so good, on top of the cinematography etc…true story adults are 🙃

Not just invite him. They are close friends. The face that everyone sees on their TV isn't necessarily what you want it to be like in real life. But I understand Bill. And he's right. It's a personality trait not everyone has that can let you jump past the evil that you see and 'pave over ' it with a joke, because sometimes, we just run out of empathy. We run out of caring gas. Really.... unique? He just says everything we all are thinking (anybody that is 35-40). If you aren't thinking it, then you were indoctrinated, brainwashed and don't think for yourself.
I think we all understand that laughter is the way Bill processes all the hideousness that life throws up these days...a protective mechanism from getting crazy and depressed by it all. He has such an open and honest take on things. Hilarious..
I like to think hideousness is just a a coping mechanism that some crazy and depressed people use in order to cope with hilarious people like Bill Burr. I agree he seems protected from it all, and his openness and honesty makes him strong.
I can relate. If you have anger and sadness piled on to you your whole life, eventually you mentally and physically can't take it anymore so you start laughing. Not because you're taking delight in the situation, but because it makes you feel better.
My siblings and I showed my dad the first episode of F is for Family for Father's day and we all laughed so hard that we were in tears because the whole episode (especially the dinner scene), was EXACTLY what it was like growing up in our household. Some of those lines have absolutely come out of my dad's mouth word for word lol.
The absolute hilarity that he experienced as he watched the 2016 election results live with a group of comedians was possibly the greatest example of how much he enjoys when people overreact to disappointment.
I mean, I agree he does love exactly that, but whatever their reactions were that night, they were not overreactions...it turns out that they were all definitionally underreacting. No matter what their reactions were in real time, they were not appropriately grasping how ostentatiously damaging & embarrassing a The Donald Presidency would end up being. He singlehandedly removed objective truth from the American lexicon...he's the most hyper-selfish, morally bankrupt human alive, & we're so far gone as a country that we're about to elect him again. That's not good for the kids though. The poor things will be in college when their dad is 70! And their kids probably won't get to meet their grandpa. Exactly 😂 any other show host would cut this out or try to change the subject. Conan is the best for that 👌🏾
He explicitly said that he had even worse stuff and instead of trying to change the subject to keep things "safe", Conan said "well, you may as well get it out now" because he knew this bit was legendary.
But when he explains it, you know he's right and agree with his view.
could you imagine a joke like that withouth credentials? ...done by random dude?
It's and proper work to make that jokes accountable
I think it has to do with how he said it though. When he said "some dude beat up his wife," he said it without a smile, abruptly, while having a cold look, and after "introducing it" by saying they wouldn't laugh because they're told not to. If he had dropped the preamble and continued speaking while laughing, the reaction would be better, I think.
Like the fact that he says "I'm not mature enough to feel bad"... makes him the butt of the joke. People are laughing at his ridiculousness rather than laughing at the victim

“I was watching precious” 😂
I can count how many times in life I’ve legitimately laughed until I cried. This was one of those moments 💀
The fact that Bill’s mother-in-law has the same type of humor is hilarious! 😂

What Conan says about so much care and attention being given to children resonates with me. Children are so much better at navigating life than adults give them credit for. My mother always said kids only need 2 things: Someone to run to when they scrape their knee, and cake on their birthdays. That's it. or maybe he is reflected enough to see the absurdity of the situation because he seems like an empathic person and he knows that he is not laughing about a suffering individual but about the grim existence and actions of mankind. and maybe, he is partly laughing about himself.. there are people who can do that, especially good comedians.
@@ewignichjesehn Or maybe he's just not full of himself like you wordy pricks are. Give that a lil thinky think
He just sees through people and their actions because he was trained to do so due to shitty abusive father. Not uncommon.
No comedian makes my laugh like Bill Burr does. Has me in tears every time 😂
Which Bill has created more tears?
A. Burr
B. Clinton
C. Cosby
@@randyschwaggins Burr would be proud of you for this one.
He makes Conan cackle with laughter. I love it.
Omg......me too!!! If u haven't seen it~look up Bill Burr's Top Ten Moments on Conan!! Conan is laughing so hard, he swivels his chair away from the camera with his face in his hands!! SOOO GREAT FOR A CHEERING UP!!! :D 😃☺♥♥
It’s bad man! 😂
That was amazing how he kept it going and going and going and finishes with "I think this going great Conan!'. I haven't laughed so hard and long for a long time. 😂
Drank were you under the influence as in "stoned" ?
@@douglasknoll3500 Sometimes people just have humor
I had to keep pausing it until I could catch my breath because I was afraid I'd miss something.
It's like he wrote a whole set in his head during the interview. The man's amazing.
I mean the 5 million views would probably support that lol
There's no one who can compete: You and Bill together are comedy Gold!! I've been watching this over a year now and it's still is my most favorite thing
"I was watching Precious". I wasn't expecting that. Only Bill Burr can make me laugh about one of the saddest movies ever.
I don’t get it🤷♂️
@@rossydv go watch the movie
@@rossydv en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precious_(film)#Plot
@@rossydv It's a drama for empathetic women and feminine men. Struggle and Phoenix like dramas are pointless, because they all have the same narrative and no surprise effect. It's stories of "fallen angels", that always "win" in the end.
I just watched the trailer. Lmfaoooo bill 😂
I like Bill's perspective sometimes. It's that feeling you get where you get so fed up with life that all you can do is laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
❤️
You explain my thought perfectly
This was the best Conan segment I've seen in years. Conan opened the door to a conversation on being a middle aged parent, and just moments later Bill is confessing he laughed at "Precious".
Bill Burr will always be one of my favorite people. He reminds me it's okay to laugh at terrible news. It better than crying at it. He's got some really great points in this. Had me rolling...
Bill Burr really has healing powers over my soul! Just love every minute!
Burr and Conan have a great chemistry, Burr can make Conan genuine-laugh like no one else can

@@jeremiahallen8826 oh I thought op meant Bill thank you!
I relate so much to Bill here. Some things are just so over-the-top awful that it becomes comedy. Thanks to Team CoCo for putting this content out there. Makes the rest of us feel normal.
Reminds me of the time I saw Titanic in the theatre. The more people cried at Jack's death, the more it made me laugh. D'oh!!!
I love that everyone is in stitches the whole time Bill is going off; this man is comedic gold
This may be the most honest discussion I've ever seen Conan do; and maybe any show host, for that matter.

The comfort and hilarity of you guys together is perfection 😂 please do this often!
I cried out of compassion and laughter watching this. “ I was jealous of kid who got hugged “ this… thank you Conan and bill 😂
Man, I miss being a kid and just going outside and climbing trees and stuff. Good times, the best
I love how Bill's mother in law gets his back, they sound like a true power duo 🤣🤣🤣
I think this helps explain what Bill's wife sees in him. Her mom must be a quirky crack-up too.

Bill has to marry his mother in law. I flipped my water bottle and it landed straight up.

Congratulation on to whoever did the lighting on this set, Bill and Conan have never looked more pasty.
As a "pasty" red head myself (now grey) that was a funny comment
Only way to be more pasty is invite Gaffigan!
You can almost identify the lighting crew through the reflection on Bill's head.

I love the fact that he goes “I got worse ones” that’s when you knew it’s been prepared for this moment 😂😂😂 it’s funny enough to relate because comedy is part of coping with life
