    The biggest thing for me was the world didn't feel like it was home to anyone, other than diamond city, there weren't really many towns, my favorite thing about F3 and new Vegas was exploring all the little towns and communities. The towns that did exist in F4 just felt flat and didn't have the depth the other ones did for me

      In new vegas it was tedious..... you gotta walk for 10 minutes to just get to that 1 guy. Open but empty. Also really tired of the "generics" thrown in there,,,patrolling the mojave makes you wish for a nuclear winter"... and such. Even the combat dialogue is cringey...

      Yep, but I honestly think it’s my most played and most enjoyed solely because of mods, though. I love the story and lore that was added with FO4 (especially the Far Harbor DLC), although some things make me question what in the world Bethesda is doing with the franchise, and I’ve done numerous vanilla play-throughs messing around with builds, but modding it is why FO4 is my favorite.
      I love what the community has been able to do with the game. I got into modding back when Skyrim first came out and learned 3d modeling when it came to FNV, but FO4 is where I went all in with Substance Painter, ZBrush, 3dsMax, Photoshop, all of it and and still continue to mod the hell out of … the time I have spent modding this game is honestly shameful as I’ve spent more time sorting load orders and testing stuff, but it’s such a great game for it with honestly one of the best communities.

      I absolutely loved the fps aspects and exploration. It just needed a better leveling system with more speech checks or build checks that would help male the game more similar to new Vegas .if that was in the game I would have voted it close to a modern masterpiece!

    I have to say, the fact that Power Armor is more "troublesome" in this game is a point in it's favor. If you're going to try to sell the weight, power, and to really hammer home the fact you're a walking *tank*, then at the same time also being able to sleep, eat and just do whatever in it all the time without any negatives to remind yourself that you are, in fact, in a walking mech suit, it really makes the efforts in the former not as impactful.

    • @Istoleyoursweetroll
      @Istoleyoursweetroll 2 роки тому +266

      Some days you leave the power armor behind, go scout and loot or light travel. Some days you take it to go attack raiders, heavy travel, and headed Ad Victorium. System could probably use some polishing but it’s alright.

    • @Istoleyoursweetroll
      @Istoleyoursweetroll 2 роки тому +94

      @@SpoopySquid it’s fun for survival too. Most of my characters are “versatile” sneaky guys and so usually they forgo the power armor. But they use it when they know they have to go up against a tough challenge like Corvega Assembly at low levels. But most of the time they’re scouting or traveling and can’t waste the fusion cores or draw attention to themselves. And then I got my brotherhood character who tries to always be in the power armor, but if he gets caught out of camp on a recon mission or something he still has to get out of it to sleep or rest through the night. In survival it makes sense.

    • @TheUnchosenOne
      @TheUnchosenOne 2 роки тому +51

      Well actually, it would make more sense for the US government to design them so that you can easily sleep with it on since a soldier could be forced to survive in a hazardous environment for weeks before they would have to fight.

    • @Istoleyoursweetroll
      @Istoleyoursweetroll 2 роки тому +30

      @@TheUnchosenOne some of that has to be game mechanics though. Can’t sleep in a chair or wait around without one. Things I can go do right now. And maybe design limitations. Power armor could make you fly around in space and recycle your own piss for drinking water, or make you shoot laser beams out of your chest. But the engineers in the FO universe were likely limited by technology, resources, and politics. I’d imagine one CAN sleep in power armor. Probably even lay down and take a nap on the spot. But it’s probably not optimal. So In game, you have to take it off to sleep in your bed.

    In my opinion, I think the biggest missteps BGS made with fallout 4 were removing skills, dumbing down charisma/speech, and streamlining conversations. Those three major RPG elements are what made Fallouts 1, 2, and even 3 really good and immersive. Hell, I even missed having the Karma system! At the end of the day though, I still put like 400+ hours into fallout 4, so jokes on me I guess..

      I'm so glad they ditched the Karma system. I was so sick of the games judging me bizarrely on what the developers thinks is moral or not. At the end of the day, I'd like to ask for more caps or loot items from the Triggerman without bounty hunters being sent after me. Having a companion judge me audibly was always more impactful then some UI update in the corner of the screen, telling I'm a naughty girl for shooting a mass murderer like Roy Phillips. That absolute distain and disbelief Paladin Dance has for you if you play the Silver Shroud quest greedy and ruthless is so much more effective.

    You could have finished the assault on the Brotherhood's ship without ever shooting a bullet. If you have a BoS uniform (I think Deacon even gives you one before you head in but I'm not 100% sure on that) you can walk around and people won't attack you, but you'll be questioned from time to time by different characters and you have to pass some speech checks that get more difficult as time goes on. If you fail, the entire ship attacks you, but if you pass you can plant the charges and walk away, leaning into the espionage side of the Railroad

    • @SkywardShoe
      @SkywardShoe 2 роки тому +181

      Yeah this part of the video baffled me. The entire point of the mission is that it's an infiltration, not an assault. You steal an official BoS Vertibird, have the character known for disguise and false personas talk you in, wear a stolen uniform, then try to surreptitiously plant the bombs while avoiding people and potentially having to pass speech checks if you get too close. It is a stealth mission through and through, and only turns into a fight if you fail at stealth or charisma first. It's also undertaken with the understanding that unless the Railroad is able to quickly land a decisive blow they probably won't survive another attack from the BoS, so while it's risky it's also entirely necessary.
      You can also save the synths and Bunker Hill then pass a high speech check with Father to stay in the Institute so long as you didn't get caught doing it. If you do get caught saving them that is another way to get Banished from the Institute without killing anyone. You do need to recapture one synth for the Institute who is a Raider gang leader, which I think is there more to make you question whether the Railroad are really in the right and give the player a reason to potentially betray them and side with the Institute.
      I agree with a lot of this video but his understanding of the Railroad's questline and the choices you have available was very lackluster.

      From the stuff you hear in game it made it pretty obvious to me it was the institute who took Shaun, but once I got to the institute, something about their version of events started rubbing me the wrong way, the more I looked into things the less it made sense. Shaun ages 60 years but Kellogg is barely unchanged from the time he takes Shaun and "60 years later" when you're let out. What kind of child even one who didn't grow up with their parent would allow their parents killer to work and benefit from the system you're now in, furthermore why would you leave him to attempt to take out your other parent as a test? Why would the institute let their number 1 most valuable test subject become the leader of the whole thing down the line. I'm willing to bet the research wasn't simply taking blood once.... They probably poked and prodded him until he died. Also the fact he made different child versions of Shaun to try to trick us..... Father isn't Shaun, thus don't feel bad for killing him, in fact you should probably feel redemptive since you're killing one of the people most likely responsible for the death of your in universe child.

    I never understood why they removed weapons from being Holstered, that was one of the first moments a few mins into the game I noticed that FO4 was off, something as simple as that being taken away for no explicable reason other than, laziness. Probably cause they had clipping issues with the power armour, rather than fixing it they just take it away like with everything else in their franchises. The story stuff and bloated radiant quest bullshittery, lack of dialogue options (or knowing what you guys gonna actually say, or tone). It felt like a single player MMO is the best way to put it, but after playing FO76 I can see FO4 was literally a test demo for 76.

      Yea, I think a lot of that was definitely due to the clipping since FO4 implemented a layered armor system with various types of different meshes.
      FO4 was the first Fallout game where we could customize our body shape/types in the character creator on top of all the other extra goodies we were able to do just in CC alone. Tack on how we could layer the armors (which make up all kinds of different mesh sizes), it made for numerous combinations on how a body could look.
      Which in turn, makes the idea of holstering a weapon a bit trickier since there would have to be numerous combinations/mesh alterations of the modeled weapon to rig to the body with animations for every single combination. On top of that, they would have to account for all the weapon attachments/mods for each weapon mesh that was implements in FO4, which makes it even more tedious.
      I understand why they did away with it and I don’t blame them. I’d rather have a modular armor system with different combo weapon attachments in the end over a floating gun.
      There’s no gameplay benefit to holstering aside from the “tacticool” aesthetics anyways, IMO.
      There are mods that add it to FO4 for those who want it back, though. Better than previous iterations for prior games, but I still think it looks silly. Some mods have found better ways to implement it by trying to hide the floating a bit better with backpacks. However, even the backpacks clip with most outfits or look just as out of place as there aren’t straps for most of those either to account for the numerous body types (all still extremely noticeable when crouched in 3P).

      It makes me wonder.. Will we have Rockstar like Sheathing in the Elder Scrolls 6? I know it's small and might seem petty, but it's something we've had in most of their games now, and I think it will be sad to see it go, I remember finding a mod when playing Skyrim years ago, before FO4 was out, it was called "Unlimited Equipment Overhaul" or something, and it actually allowed you have all of your favourited weapons in the Tab to be displayed on your dude, even when sheathed, it would make your character look hella badass 😂

    The thing that always confused me was why neither the Minute Men or the synth rebellion wanted to claim the institutes base as their own instead of blowing it up. Like the Brotherhood wanted to remove the possibility that more synths could be made or any other dangerous tech, makes sense. The Minute Men, claiming the base might set a bad precedents or frighten the rest of the Commonwealth since that type of thing isn’t what those guys do. But the Synth rebellion in the Railroad ending? I feel like they would want to claim the base and create their own faction. That would have been a wild ending and would have provided an excuse for a couple post game quests to help them get into their feet

    One of my biggest problems is the tension between the 4 factions in fallout 4, there is none. In New Vegas you feel that the Legion, NCR and Mr House hated, distrust and wanted to kill the other and using other minor factions to complete their goals regardless of the cost. Fallout 4 on the other hand does not feel like that. Minutemen and Railroad are just there and at times you forget that they are even there. Even the brotherhood and institute don't have any sort of tension, while the brotherhood is screaming how much they want to kill the institute, the institute most of the time doesn't acknowledge them, or any faction, most of the time.

    Now you started making them irritated. You get in, then you meet Shaun. Since you’re the leader, he tells you to stop messing with the hidden synths missions. But you choose not to, leading them to kick you out and declare you enemies for defying them.

    The Institute's motto is "Mankind Redefined". A motto with no meaning at all. They created intelligent, self-aware artificial life whose goal is to perfectly imitate humanity. But the Institute gets upset and punishes these Synths when they act human. If they wanted dumb robots who follow orders and express no free will or personal desires why would they give Synths a sense of free will at all? Nothing they do makes sense.
    The Institute should have created Synths with a real purpose. Mankind Redefined right? How about this. Synths are used to infiltrate surface society with the express goal of replacing them with genetically superior humans. Synths would blend into existing families and deliver modified dna to eggs during sex. The children born of these actions would be engineered to be superior than the average human. The Institute's methods would actually have a goal. The cost is the deception and harm caused to current humans to get to the Institute's goals of redefining mankind. And if the improved children are born and don't pan out to be as amazing as the Institute expects or experience long term genetic defects, all the damage they caused to surface dwellers would have been for nothing.
    Edit: Adding on to this there are so many sub conflicts to explore. Who in the institute will have the greatest influence over the genetics of their newly seeded humans? Who gets to decide which traits are superior? The debate within the Institute would be facinating. And what about the Synths? They should be far more limited in capability than what we got overall. More machine underneath and fallable. However, there could be a sub faction in the institute who thinks seeding humanity 2.0 is a wasted effort, so they secretly have been improving the Gen 3 Synths beyond their intended purposes. What would the Institute do then once they realize their Gen 3 synths have gained a true sense of free will?

      Fallout 4 is extremely close to making the Institute make sense. All the pieces are on the board, ready to go - But they never get put in play. Consider this, it's not part of the game, but imagine that the Institute's goal with Synths is to eventually have them replace the members of the Institute and carry on their work underground. Considering that they're created to further the Institute's research and operations long after it's founders have passed away - They'd naturally not want them to go off and get distracted by the outside world or get caught up in a rogue ideology.
      Want it to make even more sense? The Institute's goals are real long term - Like hundreds of years out. They're creating all this amazing technology underground to eventually be deployed once the ambient radiation above ground has subsided enough and the people above ground have grown civilized enough to utilize it. They create synths as a bastion of pure, uncorrupted DNA to repopulate the earth, program them with every skill and piece of information they might ever need to rebuild the world - And bam, there you have it. An all purpose time-bomb of world saving potential. Mankind literally redefined as in the future the only pure human DNA is going to be reintroduced to the world by robots and their 'Human' offspring.
      That's not a lot - But that's all you'd have to do to make the Institute make sense.

      Another goal could be, if Bethesda actually delved into the slave trade that should've been present and necessary for the Wasteland, the Institute goal should have been effectively 'stop the slave trade' by monopolising it with synthetics. This would explain why they make them with some level of free will, in order for them to develop problem solving skills that would be valuable. If successful this would stop the current slave trade, saving thousands of humans from being kidnapped and slaughter by slavers, as well as bring some level of large workforce that can bring humanity back from the brink, and back to some level of civilisation.

      @@whosaprettykitty5076 I've always hated this argument against the Institute, that they're "Evil" for "hiding away the technology".
      I mean.. look at the "society" on the top world... It's over run by raider gangs, and factions like the Brotherhood who want to destroy you simply for existing and will declare all out war on you until you're destroyed utterly. It's completely decimated by Rad storms, and over run with ghouls and other abominations still 200 years later.
      What exactly is the Insitute supposed to do to help? Send out their superior technology, where at some point it will be used against the people? Now the Instiute has to play permenant defense in trying to re secure tech that got taken by raider gangs, destroyed by Brotherhood of steel, and all kinds of other problems?
      Actually hiding away until the time is right and they have the means, technology, support, and infrastructure, and the upper world is stabilized enough to where it wouldn't be detrimental to the future is exactly what the Institute should do, and that's what they do do.
      In-fact, I think that's 1 thing everyone who analyzes the Institute is missing. The reason for the Robots, is to help bring the stability to the commonwealth, so that the Institute CAN finally show themselves, and help it. But until that time, they need to stay hidden and keep the future of humanity safe while having the freedom to continue their important research.

    Fallout 4 was such a disappointment for me in almost everyway.
    RP was thrown out of the window.
    You will always be a war veteran or a lawyer before the bombs fell.
    You will always have a son that gets kidnapped.
    Plus the voice character, expressing emotion that will always be there, that goes against what I want to RP. It just disconnected me so much.
    I was playing Bethesda's story, not making my own.
    It worked for Mass Effect, The Witcher, because they had defined characters that those people could be. But Fallout is just too open to do the same thing as those games.
    Because if you want to RP as a nice guy, you will have to go looking for your son as it contradicts your playthrough if you don't, but if you want to play as an asshole, there's not many options for that either. They honestly could've saved themselves so much work by just thinking of a reason like FNV with being a courier. You ended up in a situation that will drive you forward or not. That's RP, I swear they need to host more games of D&D to try and remember what makes RPG's so great.
    Games have gotten distracted with the term 'RPG-elements' which just means you've got a leveling systems. But that isn't what makes RPG's, it seems the industry has forgotten.

      Player character needs more variety in motivation. Family needs to be taken away. I think the house sequence should be how you describe your character. Your choices then change who is “unfrozen” or killed before you wake up in the main game.
      Examples:
      Choose to have spouse and child? They should be pulling in any minute from a run to valu-mart. Same sequence from the time you run to bunker. Negative version it is found out you are cheating with the neighbor.
      Bachelors could establish a scene where they stop by a neighbors house they are romantically engaged with. You could also do a negative karma version where they have a spouse, making you sort of a scumbag.
      Much more than that would be a lot to do. Already sets up five slightly separate starting paths, including a fifth path that is more neutral and streamlined. If you want to really care about your family and be a good person, you can run right off after a clue. If you want to not care about anyone but yourself, also fine. With room in-between.
      This would all work best with the fate of your family not being certain until you choose to pursue it. Unless you either know exactly what to do or run straight to objectives it will be a while until you get to the big plot reveal that your kid (who loves you) or your neighbors kid (who hates you for cheating) is in charge of the institute. It would also make MUCH more senSe if the kid is NOT a stupid little infant. Early Teens with references to them being good at science makes some sense, instead of them just inexplicably being in charge.
      Could go on, but I think from there the rest of the game doesn’t need to be changed. The main questline can work just about the same. I don’t think anyone else ever gives a shit about you and your family.

      I mean, you will always be [Insert Occupation Here] in any RPG.
      You will always going to do [Insert ultimate Quests here (Kill Benny, Get GECK, Kill The Master, ] in any RPG.
      Fallout 4 fails to deliver the Illusion of choices like in New Vegas for example, 2-3 Skill/Speech Checks to do the exact same thing or to get the same information or extra piece of dialogue that ultimately did nothing.

      @@IMBREISGAU I think you missed my point a little, but I agree.
      You have that because that's a product of games needing to give players purpose. To increase appeal, Which a lot of players need to push them in the world. Which isn't a bad thing, but for me good RPG's vs bad RPG's is how far can I distance myself from [insert occupation here] role.
      FNV has limits for sure, but also pretty crazy the different things you can do, given the time it was made and why good writing is super important. Why I use FNV as a good example is because I can distance myself from being a courier. Also there's so many reasons and characters types that fit into that role, I could've been doing a week or years, my brother gave me a tip of someone making a grand delivery with a lot of caps involved. Maybe I stole the chip. Maybe I killed the courier that came before. Plus the occupation or having something to call the player also helps with writing, the NPC's can't call you by the characters name, so they have to think of ways in which a character in world would call you. But that's where the creativity comes in.
      I would LOVE a game to release that didn't have any set up and just dropped you into the world full of lore quests and said 'figure it out who you want to be', I think a lot of people are hungry for an RPG like that. The appeal of D&D is you're limited by your imagination with your set up, Skyrim with mods you can really make something special, the amount of possibilities for RP is insane. It's a shame no RPG is made like that and shows what could be possible. Bethesda has this formula, there's is no game out there like Bethesda games.

      @@FumblsTheSniper That sounds cool, but I think still too much set up and creativity best suited for fleshing out the world, I would've just cut the whole sequence and have you start anywhere in world like Stalkers Sandbox mod anomaly. Just exploring the world and interacting with factions and such. This is more simulation territory, which I think RPG's thrive in. But then we blur what an RPG is, which if we take D&D as the reference when we talk about RPG's it fits very well with what you can do in immersive sim games or the game Project Zomboid which is great for RP. That said I've noticed I gravitate towards games that don't sell well so maybe I'm wrong in what makes a 'good' game meaning a game that amasses a vast quantity of people's attention and purchase.
      But I'm just being grumpy that FO4 didn't meet my expectations and I don't hate on anyone that likes that game, I really wish I could also, things are better when you enjoy them :P But yeah man haha I could go on also XD

    something that the Minutemen could've been used for was altering the Institute story line. No mattering what path you choose Shaun sees the Wasteland as this abominable realm of despair and chaos. however if Bethesda were competent at writing they could've made it so the Minutemen could change his mind. you do enough quests for them that unite settlements, clearing out raider and mutant camps to populate them with civil people and perhaps all of that could make it so Shaun sees the Wasteland as this flourishing beacon of hope. and after seeing all of this, he would wish to help the people of the Commonwealth and your quests within the Institute would be based around creating new facilities in the Commonwealth that would give benefits to cities, towns, and settlements. or maybe even settling political and civil unrest. perhaps you can do missions that involve settling the paranoia surrounding synths and abductions. there could've been so much more potential revolving around the Minutement, and considering how small and insignificant they seem at first glance, a person avoiding them or just refusing to help them would make sense because nobody expects such a small faction to be able to make such a large difference.

    I also think the minutemen/institute rivalry could have started with 1 or multiple synths taking refuge at one of the settlements which the institute attack. Potentially a mission which could be part of both factions storylines.

    I recently started playing Fallout 4 and I've been a Fallout Geek for years and I have to say it does leave alot to be desired, but in no way is it a bad game just lackluster. My personal criticisms of the game is
    1. The soundtrack is just ripped from Fallout 3. I really enjoy the new songs they've added. Wished they put Bobby Darin and even some 70's songs to add some twist on the whole 50's style, gets repetitive.
    2. The execution of the story was so underwhelming. I know New Vegas was a different entity, Bethesda should have took some notes on how that game was able to present so many different kinds of choices to the player to essentially create their own story. Also throw in some politics and philosophy.
    3. The main character. Really a mess that can't represent the player or immerse them fully in the game. I hate a good chunk of the dialog options cause I don't know how my character is gonna respond and I hate how most of the encounters are set up. Yesterday I came across a guy trying to kill a synthetic and I tried to talk him out of it but I failed every speech check and the only options left were to kill the guy or kill the synth. Fallout 4 is really lacking in options and I always have to go about them in ways I really dislike.

    Fallout 4 was my 1st game of the franchise, so when I saw that everyone hated it and claimed the others were better, I decided to check them out. I liked the older ones more for the story, but still prefer 4's better combat and building settlements

      It's not just story that is better in the previous games, it's character building and role playing that is far better. 4 does have better combat but it should as it came out 7 years after 3.

    What an amazing year for video games. 2015 was incredible, I'll never forget it. Witcher 3, mgs5 and fallout 4! Even though the story was weak I loved the exploration and gameplay.

    As a long time fallout player, fallout 4 isn’t even a terrible game I just think the biggest issue is that fallout 4 was designed to be a game for new players where as most of the others were designed to the fallout fan base

    In my opinion the problem with Fallout 4’s story is it’s urgency. In the beginning of the game you saw your family destroyed, your son kidnapped. As a parent the logical thing to do is to stop at nothing to save your child.
    Because of this backstory, it does not make sense for your character to explore the world freely (if you intend to follow the story). While in New Vegas, your character does not remember who he/she was. The only thing that you are suggested to do is to find the person that tried to kill you and find out who you were. You can choose to ignore that and just explore the world, and that decision can still make sense.

      Yep, FO4 is a textbook example of how to completely DESTROY plot pacing. I can only make sense of this by pretending the main character is a generation 3.5 synth from the institute, sent into the world to test how effective planted memories are at shaping their personality (not very effective/lasting at all). Codsworth and initial game until Sanctuary is just fake memories, with player just booted up right after the bright lights on the elevator. The experiment backfires and the 3.5 synth has no control chip so it can't be shut down, which may or may not destroy the institute. Maybe they just decide to fool around with sim settlements or power armor, who knows :D
