I like colouring books because you don't have to think about the drawing just the colour. Which is nice when you're in an artsy mood but not enough to sit and think about a drawing first.

My husband has such a hard time drawing. His mind just doesn't process where to put the lines. But! He loves to color because of the reason you just said for yourself. It allows his creativity to flow, because he doesn't have to worry about what line goes where to create *insert shape here*.

For those curious, this page took 75 pencils and approx. 15 hours total to color!
I would never have imagined that I would “have the patience” to spend so long on a single page. But like I mentioned in my recent video, patience is something we can learn when it’s a project we enjoy. The more I color, the more I love spending time on projects like this. Unlike the last time I tried this, I really enjoyed every minute of this challenge. So the 15 hours were NOT a chore, and I’d happily do it again! (It was over a few days, not in one sitting)
If you missed that video, I recommend you check it out! I talked about patience, criticism, and the lies we tell ourselves about not being creative. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/kXoXVlA7jws/v-deo.html

Hi Sarah Ranae Clark, im Not sure if I am the only one who does this but when I colour a page like this or I’m doing a big art project I always put a Long movie on either Disney or a normal film or a tv program or even a UA-cam drawing livestream or just a normal UA-cam video so I have something on in the background as it helps me to keep going. @Sarah Ranae Clark

I love the Thomas Kinkade coloring book! I found my favorite method for reducing the black lines was actually to photo copy the book and then print it on a large scale printer that can handle standard art quality paper. The key here is to print it at 30-50% opacity. A win win win situation because you get better paper, spend less time covering the lines and you can make it as large as you want (or can print) which is great for those tiny details and faces! I’d love to see you try this method in a video.

I am astonished. The drawing is so beautiful. And maybe people will say it's "not perfect" and "doesn't look just like original" but this is the point. To have fun and create something beautiful in your own way. Love it! I wait for more videos like that with use of this coloring book.

Omg. Just discovered your absolute treasure of art videos. Colored pencil/ coloring book is what I've been watching and LOVE this so much.
How did you get so amazingly fantastic?
You didn't know about gesso before this? It's freaking amazing and there are so many ways it can help you!! Need to pause a project?/ clear gesso that and set it aside no worries. Don't want your perfectly drawn sketch to get smudged, erased, mix with your medium, or have to make the sketch darker just to keep the sketch while you begin project? Clear gesso that sketch!!!
Need to prime a surface for colored pencils---->gesso it. Not just in clear, white, black but many colors or create your own.
This is great and starting a project with a surface that has some color on it- so much better and easier than a scary blank white surface. For me at least.
Always do multiple layers when surface prepping. Different things you can do here with texture and or sanding if wanted. Also not sure why the multiple layers but it's a habit and I'm sure it's for some good reason I've just forgotten.

The beauty and the beast one was fab, but the Ariel one is such another level. Both two of my faves by the way. That is the most perfect ending for this video. And your voice is gorgeous. I really enjoy your positivity. There are many things you have said in the various videos I've watched by you so far that I have told many other artists I've come across that don't have confidence in themselves. When it comes to the people who say using such good quality supplies shouldn't be "wasted' on a coloring page like the one in the video, or in any coloring book, clearly don't understand how art actually works. It is not easy to do all that detailing, especially if you're still learning. That takes honed skills and self confidence to do such detailing. Nothing is wasted; everything is gained.

😆 love the ending! "No" lol!
What a beautiful job! I used to hate colored pencils because of how much muscle it takes to burnish a drawing, but your videos made me open my case of prismacolors and pull out 20 yr old leftover crayolas again.
Would love to see you color in those flowers on your wall sometime! They're just asking for it 🤣

You did amazing so detailed and in colored pencil vs paint they look so similar. I would end up coloring it so flat not blending at all. I honestly can't tell a difference. You are so talented.

That was awesome, I love the show at the end. Also I am proud of you for going back and tackling that book again. That turned out really amazing. I am definitely going to have to try out that pen eventually. I usually just end up transferring coloring pages to better paper while making the lines less robust.

I’m going to buy a thinner one too now. They come in 2 sizes, and I think a brush or bullet tip

@@SarahRenaeClark I've looked at Pitt Pens before, but have never actually tried them. What type of pen are they? I haven't come across a white pen that wasn't a gel pen or paint pen; these seem like something different.
I tried the gesso (I think it's pronounced jesso rather than guesso) on my own colouring page a few weeks ago. I didn't try it to cover up the lines, but used clear gesso to add texture for paper (and prevent bleeding on the other side of the page). What I've learnt from that is:
      1. Don't use gesso if you plant on using marker pens (or any type of pen) as the texture will destroy you nib.
      2. Sanding down the page afterwards, also scrapes away black printing, so greys out the lines (although using white gesso just on the lines would be more practical if that's you're only purpose). I learnt this the hard way since the background was all black printing, and I scraped it all off 🤦. I had to go over it all again with a black pencil.
      3. It makes for a quicker lay down of coloured pencils, but also eats through them super fast. My black pencil is now less than half the size it was when I started.
      4. Gets seems to work pretty well if you want to use pastels. Typically pastels would not be a great choice for a colouring book because the pages are so smooth that they provide no grip. Using pastels over gesso was quite satisfying.
I think the longest I've spent on a colouring page before is 8-10 hours. I'm not a patient person, but I am someone who has to finish things. That is both a good and a bad thing, because when I say I have to finish things, I mean I can't leave something unfinished - even for a few hours. If I start, I will continue until I finish, which makes me my own worst enemy. I actually managed to break that habit on a recent drawing I did, because I realised it was going to take me days to do. At first it stressed me out leaving it for another day, but now I know that I can, bigger projects shouldn't be so daunting.

@@Bastion90 I’m actually not sure what the Pitt pens are. They are unlike other paint or gel pens I have come across. They have a felt tip, so more like a paint pen- but it’s not quite acrylic paint either. Maybe worth investigating! Either way, they didn’t seem to alter how the pencils felt on the paper at all.

I love how you have come back and taken on another page from this gorgeous book. I too have this book and am so intimidated by it. I have a page in here that I started maybe last year (the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum page) and I have coloured a good part of it but the background with the foliate and flowers is what I am unsure how to approach. Thank you so much for taking the time to work on another page in this book. You have inspired me to pull out this page and get it finished. Love your work xx

The fact that I've seen several people tackle this "colouring book" leads me to believe that Disney isn't setting up the lay person up to successed in this endeavour!!! With the way they've been acting it seems to be their new m.o. the lay person isn't good enough anymore. Only the elite are welcome. Never been the biggest fan, although my heart 💓 as always been with the retrobates. I guess I'll keep there!!! 😜 I'm old so a child it was one of the 1st time I've ever got to see a woman be truly powerful for that I'll always be thankful!!! Take care and have fun!!! 😷😎😷
