Shadow's voice is great, he doesn't sound edgy to the point where he can slice the world in half but instead sounds like a serious person that could be reasoned with. In my opinion, this is the best version of Shadow yet.
I think the best version of shadow is in sa2, but, tbh, this is better than every interpretation of shadow after sa2 he isn't a total edgelord I like his voice He actually is concerned about the multiverse thing he is very good in this show...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't on board with the Prime VA's taking over for the games. They did a good job but they play different versions of the characters and the Game VA's are too good to get rid of. Anyway as a heads up, cause I didn't know this till recently, Knuckles had different VA's in the show. Might be why you (and I) liked him more in the Shatterverses
Agreed. I would believe that they can backtrack from the VA and Prime being canon. It's all cool, but there is a reason the film universe is not canon to the game universe.
They knew *New Yoke City* would be the most interesting place, which is why they treated it like a hub world and keep going back to it. I think that was a great idea 👍
I watched Sonic Prime after reading the "Sonic Prime is technically canon" interview, so it definitely was hard for me to get used to Sonic's more hyperactive and immature personality at first. However, if there's one good thing to come out of this different take on Sonic's characterization, it's Shadow's fantastic characterization. Instead of making Shadow just another antagonist that hates Sonic for no reason, Shadow calls out the consequences of Sonic's flawed actions, giving him more of an "older, more mature brother" energy to him, rather than just an edgy jerk that wants to prove he's the best. There weren't that many scenes with Shadow in this first batch of episodes, so it's still hard to tell if this is the best interpretation of him, but if they keep up with this level of writing, I won't be surprised if this would be peak Shadow.
The reason why knuckles in the main universe sounds bad is because for some reason he has a different voice and the alternate universe knuckles have a different person voicing them.
i think when they meant "canon to the mainline" i think they meant as "a universe that also exists with the mainline universe" which means we could get a No Way Home style special/movie/episode featuring game Sonic and maybe even Classic and Boom??. Buuut it also seems like too good to be true for that to happen (then again NWH seemed impossible too so.....)
i'm happy to see people mentioning the small or little problems they have with the show! hoping the animators and writers get all the feedback they need!
Shadow sounds leagues better than what he sounds like in the modern games Sure it's not perfect, but it feels good enough to be the next voice for Shadow in all media for now at least
One flaw I am surprised no one is bringing up, AT ALL! Is the writing, like it's a weird mix of either feeling like a scene is missing, a scene could have been written better, a scene feeling like it's been changed etc. For example (spoilers about the pilot), the whole Sonic getting ignored bit. Sonic gets ignored by one person in New Yoke gets frustrated. Ask why is he ignoring him? Then he says why does everyone ignore him even through he only talked to one person. Or how the major catalyst of events was done. The whole Eggman wanting Sonic to spin dash into him bit. Tails realizes that Eggman is not inside the robot and he is in a bad position on purpose, so this means this is a trap. So instead of warning Sonic and explaining why it's a trap. He instead just repeats the sentence "It's a trap'. I can keep going with more examples but I don't think it's worth it.
Yeah those parts bothered me too. I was like, "Sonic, you just literally talked to one person." Then again everyone else could have heard him yell out why is everyone ignoring me? But yeah Tails not explaining why that whole Eggman part was a trap I was like, "Tails, at least tell him why!" Then again Sonic also should have trusted Tails enough to stop what he was doing as well. I pretty much see it both ways honestly.
I like all of these voices better than the current voices in the games. For me they feel like a mixture of Meta Era voices and Adventure era voices, and the result is amazing. Shadow especially I was really happy about because I don't like Kirk Thornton as Shadow at all whatsoever end of story. Personally I'm one of those people that wants the Prime voice cast to be in the games.
I believe it’s not experience but more of maturity, sonic always had experience or at least it didn’t changed as much between past and present but he was less mature and more cocky. Sonic kinda lost some of that as future games were made and “got older” (especially now that they removed his age) but I don’t mind it cause while I do like his current personality but I do miss his cocky and kid like personality
Matt, I believe that they've made sonic more clumsy because they want sonic to grow as a character as the series progresses. Deven Mack is a great voice actor and I enjoy the voice because it gives me a adventure game vibe because both sonics have the same upbeat energy. Something that confuses me though is why they brought back the sonic cd running style for modern sonic. It may seem like it makes sense because some people think that classic Sonic is younger sonic but as you said in another video classic Sonic is sonic from another dimension ( Sonic generations). The 8 episodes which were released are a build up for a bigger threat. This is why they left us with sonic and shadow in the void. Because there could be a bigger threat that has something to do with the void. This could be why shadow is warning sonic or the shards could be more dangerous than sonic knows.
Apparently classic sonic was indeed just a younger sonic since in frontiers they do reference the fact that the classic evenings did happen. However the timeline split once generations happened, where classic had more adventures such as the events in mania, which is why he is the referred to him being from a different dimension

The show is great, especially the animation for it. I know the way Sonic and his friends are written isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely solid. Besides, the show is exploring each characters flaws, and it’s interesting to see the flawed side of Sonic especially.
Okay wait hold on, quick detail, in the interview the dude says that its canon however, he follows that by saying Prime draws from the mythology and aspects from the mainline games. So think of it like how with Boom, everything was fresh like none of the 3&k events happened, Sa2 didnt happen, Generations didnt happen, CD didnt happen, etc all we knew it that the main cast are friends and that Sonics fast, tails is smart, knuckles is strong, etc. Whereas with Prime i think the point that the executive producer was making was that Prime loosely follows pre-estsblished things that happened in the games to a certain point like we see how 3&k stuff loosely happened, Tails getting bullied, etc. So i dont think he meant Prime is like before or after forces or frontiers but what he meant was elements in those happened
I love the series. And I get what you're trying to say but I don't necessarily agree IMO. But to say that Sonic was just stupid throughout the whole thing and didn't care about his friends is just untrue. There were only like 1 or 2 things sonic did "stupid" and it was in the first episode. Sonic did make a mistake when he shattered the paradox prism & he didn't listen to did friends because he was too focused on winning. But at the end of episode 3 once he fully remembers everything that happened he realized it was all his fault and going forward tries to amend his mistake. And in every AU he helps his friends variants so i don't know where "Sonic doesn't care about his friends at all" come from. And sonic lacking some social awareness doesn't equate to him being dumb. And WDYM inexperienced. In prime it's mentioned that he had fought both kunkules & shadow before & Routinely beats Eggman. I mean sonic gets suckered punch and was put into a corner with supercharged badniks & the chaos council since it would be difficult for him and the rebels to fight 3 Eggmans at once. And struggle with thorn rose cause he was trying not to hurt her & the forest was too dense to run straight through. Yet there's so many moments of him being extraordinarily powerful despite he struggles. And in the end of part 1 we now know that sonic's prime reality is gone cause it shattered along with the paradox prism. so Sonic & shadow need to get all the shards and put the prism back together.(The 3 shards we've seen so far is still in the pirate,jungle & city world & the Chaos council has a shard & can travel through shatterspace so they'll be a Constant threat) I mean in sonic lost world Tails tried to warn sonic about the conch in Eggman's hand but sonic kicked it away anyway. Then later in the game Tails tries to warn sonic about a trap but sonic rushes in anyway causing Tails to save him and get captured. Knuckles, Amy & their whole world would've die because of zeti & sonic's actions In Sonic & the Black Knight he was tricked into helping Merlina. In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Shahra used Sonic to collect the world rings for Erazor Djinn. And in Sonic Frontiers, Sonic inadvertently helped free "THE END" from its prison despite suspicion from knuckles & Sage. Sage tells Sonic "And the voice that commands you. What if it is leading you to disaster." But sonic said "if it causes trouble, I'll beat them too". Like that didn't age well. And if Sonic's friends didn't save him, if Eggman & Sage didn't help get the emeralds, If Sage didn't sacrifice herself, their world would've been destroyed Walked right into Eggman's trap in sonic 06 to exchange a chaos emerald for princess Elise. Even though Tails called out that it was obviously a trap. Got outsmarted by Eggman into his trap in SA2 to save Amy Got distracted by Eggman in unleashed allowing Eggman enough time to activate a trap. So Sonic either sometimes rushes into action without a second thought falling into a trap, sometimes doesn't listen to his friend's warning, gets tricked multiple times into a trap or helping a villain, willing to help someone even if it's trap. Or unknowingly causes a Catastrophe like in Prime & frontiers & Lost world. Or unleashed once eggman zapped the emeralds out of sonic (because of sonic being distracted) and with its power shattered the earth. Or gets distracted by Eggman because he said "he'll turn over a new leaf I swear." And responds with "well this new, fully Remorsed Eggman. If you've played nice I wouldn't had to break all your toys." So prime sonic and game sonic are not so different when you really look at it all. As sonic throughout the games have made repeated mistakes cause of his heart of gold or cockiness just like in Prime
I love the show so far. My issues with it though are like you mentioned, it being canon to the main series which makes no sense unless they mean it's canon in the sense that Sonic is a multiverse. The formula is repetitive, it worked the first time, but just it doing it over and over again just felt a little stale. Along with this, the alternate worlds are either generic or boring. The best one being New Yolk City, I wish we stayed in that one longer, but I'm seeing what the creators are trying to build up. The jungle reality and pirate ones are kind of just odd choices, I'd wish they'd take from the lore of the series and expand on that. Like if the Echidna tribe survived. One thing I also find weird is how there are multiple versions of Sonic's friends but not Sonic himself, or Shadow for that matter. This might be explained later, but it was something I picked up on. Otherwise, it's a great show, I'd give a 8/10.
Yeah prime being canon makes no sense, especially when you consider how freaked out Sonic was to be out of the forest/green hill when if it was canon he should've already been to multiple cities since Shadow and Rouge are there so the events of SA1 and 2 happened
I think out of all the voices, Ashleigh Ball as Tails was the most distracting for me personally. Don't get me wrong, I like her as a voice actor, but with my younger siblings obsessively watching mlp, all I heard was Rainbow Dash (and sometimes Applejack too), and they agreed too (one of them got disappointed when she thought we were watching mlp, only to see sonic when she walked in lol) It just ended up being a bit too odd for us... But I did enjoy the rest of the cast (I agree with your Knuckles point tho), just as long as they stay in Sonic Prime. I love the game cast as they are rn, and I think it'd be better to keep Prime separate as they did with the movies (aside from Tails in the movie ofc)
i wasn't at all bothered with Tails' voices (probably since I've never in my life watched MLP in English) i think the fact they chose her to voice Tails sounds pretty great to me personally!

I just have a hard time separating it lol since it's hardly different from her RD voice (and when it is, it's weirdly close to AJ), but that's a me problem. In the end, the games are what I'm here for and Coleen is my favourite va for Tails, present and past, so as long as we have her for the games, I don't really care who they use for other things.

What I would’ve done is have the tribal and pirate episodes before all the new yoke episodes, so that the other dimensions don’ t feel like they’re intruding
Also I don’t think they meant Sonic Prime is cannon to the series, but the original post with it in there meant it’s take place in the game universe without necessarily being cannon. Could be wrong though..

While he didn’t sound bad in Frontiers and actually sounded fine, Deven just is better for me as Sonic, Rogers Sonic voice just never appealed to me like Ryan’s or Jason’s did, Deven does though, but I know they won’t bring him into the games so I’m not gonna make a fuss about it but that’s just me

This is completely my opinion. Good: - Amazing animation - Good story with potential - Great voice acting(except knuckles in the first episode) - Serious story that’s done properly - I like Rouge being in the main crew even if it doesn’t make too much sense but I hope Team Dark is formed in the future and she joins them. - I liked Sonics development. I had the same criticism that Sonic was characterised as too goofy, arrogant and stupid but I believe he changed throughout the season. Bad: - Shadows character is butchered. He feels like an angry knuckles except he’s fighting sonic for no reason and is getting angry for no reason. They did not have a good enough reason for him to fight Sonic. If he gets developed into his late SA2, heroes and 06 version(best version) of himself, this wouldn’t really be a con. His character is just not likeable for me rn and he’s my favourite character. He’s meant to be calm, collected and caring and he comes off as stupid and angry. Even when he was a villain in SA2 he was at least calm and not stupid. - Forest arc felt like filler. - Characters that don’t have a gap between their eyes really feel like they have one eyeball. It’s never been this obvious. It’s because the skin separating the eyes moves up way too much if that makes any sense. This kind of annoyed me as it makes Sonic look really goofy and weird. - Shadow in this show makes no sense. Why is he roaming green hill completely alone when there is no obvious extreme threat. Him pulling that cheap punch on Sonic too really pissed me off. This is the same guy that stopped fighting Silver because he realised that’s Silver was being tricked. You’re telling me he doesn’t stop fighting Sonic when Sonic is attempting to explain the danger. I always thought of Shadow as a character who is always doing something important. He always comes in at the important moments. They forced him into the first season way too hard, I wish they found another way to do it or waited to put him in the show. Overall, this show is a plus for Sonic and for his fan base. It’s going in the right direction too, I only see it getting better.
Going to be honest, I thought it was insufferable since the first minute. The writing, especially dialogue and characters, seemed like they were written by a small child, *not for one* .Sonic was the only character that didn’t make me reconsider if watching was worth the pain. The overall plot wasn’t a bad idea, they just made many wrong decisions in execution. Will go into detail if anyone wants to discuss :)
I'm really surprised people love Shadow on Prime. Maybe it's because it's only the first third of the season and there's a deeper reason we don't know yet, but why was Shadow pissed off at Sonic in the first place? I just don't understand why he punched Sonic at the end of the first episode, even after the end of the 8 episodes it felt so unjustified. And WHY is he introduced as Sonic's rival? I thought we were done with Shadow being his rival. they're supposed to work together. Even if it's in his own stubborn and serious way, in no way has he been rivalling Sonic since what, Heroes? idk man, Shadow just feels so out of line
This show is doing a pretty good take on Shadow that’s why, he’s not shown as a ‘Edgelord’ ( and arguably this is a pretty great voice for Shadow since Griffith) and he’s not out right insulting Sonic all the time, yea he punched the crap out of him first meeting but that’s because he knew he was the cause of the explosion aka world shattering, I mean sure he could have went after Eggman but Sonic is usually the one jumping into trouble, so it’s only logical to be him( also literally the fact Shadow saw Sonic destroy the prism) And well Shadow is also reasonably upset, the home they had is gone and he was stuck in the void the entire time. I’m not sure if you skipped around the episodes but it clear as to why he acted why he did.

Wait, are people missing the point of the show? Sonic broke reality, so the show feels broken too. Sonic himself is kinda broken, I took it all as part of the concept. About the "Prime is canon to the games,") I also feel like Prime Sonic is coherent with Unleashed Sonic, at least to some extent, so it really depends on what Sega means when they say Sonic Prime is canon. Maybe they mean that this series is what Sega wanted the cast's portrayals to have been like in the latest games. Maybe they just wanted to give a big thumbs-up to the series and it was worded poorly. It can really mean anything...
I love Sonic's character in Prime. He finally has some character flaws. Plus, he starts off goofy, but as the show progresses, he seems to become more focused or mature. Nice. Eggman is perfect here. He sounds like a mix between Pollock and Bristow. I love Tails' VA. He actually sounds like a boy. Colleen makes him sound like a girl imo. Knuckles....uhh Amy's VA in Prime is better than Cindy's interpretation in Frontiers. Cindy made Amy sound like she was in her 30s They dialed Rouge down a bit which is fine considering that it's a kid show, if you know what I mean. Big is cool Shadow...no. He has no edge.
I liked it up until Sonic goes to the jungle dimension. Really broke the pacing. So the first few episodes. I also despise that baby Eggman gets the most screen time. Probably the one character that should get the least. Never got over that Rouge was a regular part of the group. It's like, why? She barely associates with this particular cast of characters but suddenly they're the best of friends? I get this is a different continuity. I'm just saying it's strange. I also don't enjoy the huge coincidence of despite being in entirely different universes everyone is still associated with each other. Really? Jungle dimension and literally the entire cast is within feet from each other the moment he travels there? There aren't even any other characters. It literally just them.
I am beyond shocked that this is the same exact Sonic from the games yet I feel pretty torn I find it to be incredibly awesome yet incredibly stupid at the same time. Yet whatever the case it will not change my views over the show or Sonic games in general. I love Sonic way too much so I'll be enjoying it no matter what! Who knows maybe Sonic Prime was set at a time where Sonic had to learn some things with his friends and this was how he learned to be the confident experienced hero he is today or something? I don't know, we'll wait and see. Lol I also have to say that while I did notice Sonic meeting people over and over again and knew that it be a complaint by people I highly enjoyed it. I really loved seeing Sonic at the jungle and hugely enjoyed Sonic being with the pirates heck I felt like the pirate episodes really connected with the Eggman Yolk City conflict very much especially when Rusty Rose came along to attack and the Eggman Council started noticing the other dimensions. So I don't really get the complaint on why people are saying that it isn't connected. I can even see in the future the jungle episode having connections to the story as well. It's just all exposition like Matthasnocuts said.
I just LOVE the characters of Nine, Rusty Rose, and of course, *The Chaos Council* . Someone gotta explain me how you (presumably) split yourself into five different people at different lifestates 😳
i soooo agree with the video about the pacing!! i hate that netflix series does have that formula you mentioned with certain shows, but with this one it really just didn't feel natural. i love sonic, and i love this series too actually, (i binged it on accident😂) but i can't help but feel like if they only had 8 episodes to work with, a slower and more fully fleshed out exposition would be perfectly fine with most fans. that's the one thing i'd wish they'd done differently; rather than introducing everything at once, expand more upon the settings that are already there. then when they do transition to different worlds and characters, it doesn't feel so rushed. not to mention those flashbacks were confusing me too at first😅😂
Even with some Flaws,the Series is Really Good and a Great Epilogue to the Year of Sonic and a Bright Future to the Franchise,I'm Ok with Things and Lore Being Different in Sonic Prime as it's a Dimensional Explore Story with Countless and Endless Possibilities with Different Versions of Characters,Hell Prime is Forces Done Right,Can't Wait to See More on Season 2.
For the pacing I would say finish the New Yoke story with Sonic and The Resistance and then he goes to the forest world and then after wrapping up that story make him go to the pirate world or something idk
I think you need to talk into account that even if Sega said this is canon (which I am not sure if that is true since I just heard of it from your video), it doesn't say when it takes place. Sonic in Sonic frontiers is older and more mature, Sonic in Sonic prime is younger and acts more similar to Movie sonic. High chances is that Prime Sonic came before Frontiers, not after.

Them saying Prime Sonic is Game Sonic reeks of "Classic Sonic is from another timeline" energy. I think it's a statement that makes no sense, there's no indication it's true, and they will walk back on it in the future. i think the story was “rushed”, because it’s created towards a younger audience. If the story was more complex, the kids wouldn’t of understood it that well.
Sonic acts the way he is because they want to build him a character arc, don't forget that redemption was one the bigger points of the show, this was told back in sonic central 1 when they teased sonic prime.
I get he's the main character but why make him a moron and ignorant when that isn't his character? Yeah different sonic and all. But if they really wanted to focus on character arcs, they have the whole cast of the sonicverse neglected in the games yet its still just the same group. True I would also rather have Sonic Prime be it's own thing like its own Interpretation of Sonic. Rouge the Bat is meant to be a loaner character in the games and I can't see her being part of Sonic's Friends group in any shape in the cannon games. So to me, Sonic Prime is similar to Sonic Underground, it's not the worst but it is best being it's own thing and that is what makes the series unique compared to the in cannon games. Sonic Prime is the 3rd Best Sonic show by far, but until we get the conclusion of the series I don't want to put it any higher than 3rd. Maybe 2nd by the ending seeing it's potential as I have Sonic X in 2nd in my personal view of best Sonic Shows. And if Sonic Prime hits it out of the park with a major surprise for us all that has the desired result, I would be prepared to give it 1st but it will need to do allot to knock off Sonic SatAM from my personal 1st spot in Best Sonic series. In regards to what Sonic cartoon is most accessible for the younger generation of gamers, I would say Sonic Prime is perhaps the best one but the best Sonic Cartoon series overall in my personal view is always going to be Sonic SatAM for nostalgia reasons.
So here's my thoughts of the VA's taking over the game. I wouldn't be mad if D mack takes the role of the blue blur in the games. I like the over confident but mature sound of his voice acting. Tails You can't get rid of and knuckles you can't. I think they should change the amy though. This amy nails the liking for sonic and friendship talks but doesn't sound like Mini Mouse or a 25 year old women. Thoughts?
I like Sonic Prime tho if I was to fix the show if it formulated the same way it does with Avatar The Last Airbender like how each season is set on a different elemental nation like if each season was 1 new alternative reality to this series it might work better rather than hop 1 reality to another in several episodes but that's just my take on it
there are tons of passionate people who are all fans of the blue blur working on this... i'm sure it might be good, and if the writers/animators listen to the feedback from fans maybe things could improve significantly down the line

Still on the fence about shadow he just isn’t the type of shadow I wanted, sonic and shadow see each other and instantly started to fight and even talked like they don’t like each other at all. I’d prefer them to be actual friends or at least respect each other and I want shadow to be a calm intelligent instead of a brute. Maybe sonic and shadow will grow to like each other as the show goes on this shadow ain’t terrible but can still be improved upon
i can't sugarcoat this: prime universe knuckles' voice is legitimately bad voice acting. it's extremely distracting and i'm not sure how they were ok with that voice. the other knuckles voices are better because another voice actor voices every other version of knuckles for whatever reason. i'm still not a huge fan of the other knuckles voices because they don't feel like knuckles to me, but are still leagues better than original universe knuckles.
I think they actually changed the VA for knuckles between ep 1-2, which was a good call. I really liked how they dealt with multiple universes myself because aside from the forest one(which was kinda neccessary to introduce multiple universes), the pirate one then immediately switched it up by showing the council beginning to affect the pirate world, they're even setting up different character arcs with rusty rose, dread knuckles(who may be a villain) and Nines. I think my one real issue has been, the forest segment didn't have a potential sequel teased unlike dread knuckles so it feels oddly standalone. And of course, Sonic's character. I will say I do feel a lot of his actions are justified, because a lot of this aside from the main event isn't really his fault, he's being chucked around universes against his will, he's out of his depth and he can't rely on or even get a read on his friends due to their constant changes and in some cases they do not trust him due to his disappearing acts. I really like the moment where Rebel Rouge calls him out on his jokes because he's just not capable of reading this new reality and his "friends" mood. We're in early days and he's still trying to get his bearings on what is actually going on, if he keeps up being an idiot the whole way through, yeah I'll consider it an issue. There is some cases I do feel he is being too stupid though, such as with getting caught in New Yoke due to being very loud.

Shadow's voice is great, he doesn't sound edgy to the point where he can slice the world in half but instead sounds like a serious person that could be reasoned with. In my opinion, this is the best version of Shadow yet.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't on board with the Prime VA's taking over for the games. They did a good job but they play different versions of the characters and the Game VA's are too good to get rid of. Anyway as a heads up, cause I didn't know this till recently, Knuckles had different VA's in the show. Might be why you (and I) liked him more in the Shatterverses
Agreed. I would believe that they can backtrack from the VA and Prime being canon. It's all cool, but there is a reason the film universe is not canon to the game universe.
The only voice I wouldn't mind them replacing is Rouge's VA, Karen from Colors Era but that's really all. The Video game VAs should stay the same
They knew *New Yoke City* would be the most interesting place, which is why they treated it like a hub world and keep going back to it. I think that was a great idea 👍
I watched Sonic Prime after reading the "Sonic Prime is technically canon" interview, so it definitely was hard for me to get used to Sonic's more hyperactive and immature personality at first. However, if there's one good thing to come out of this different take on Sonic's characterization, it's Shadow's fantastic characterization.
Instead of making Shadow just another antagonist that hates Sonic for no reason, Shadow calls out the consequences of Sonic's flawed actions, giving him more of an "older, more mature brother" energy to him, rather than just an edgy jerk that wants to prove he's the best.
There weren't that many scenes with Shadow in this first batch of episodes, so it's still hard to tell if this is the best interpretation of him, but if they keep up with this level of writing, I won't be surprised if this would be peak Shadow.
I'm suprised how well the writers did Shadow aswell especially with the.... I aint even gonna go into that but yeah Shadow is pretty cool👌👌

The reason why knuckles in the main universe sounds bad is because for some reason he has a different voice and the alternate universe knuckles have a different person voicing them.
i think when they meant "canon to the mainline" i think they meant as "a universe that also exists with the mainline universe"
which means we could get a No Way Home style special/movie/episode featuring game Sonic and maybe even Classic and Boom??. Buuut it also seems like too good to be true for that to happen (then again NWH seemed impossible too so.....)

One flaw I am surprised no one is bringing up, AT ALL! Is the writing, like it's a weird mix of either feeling like a scene is missing, a scene could have been written better, a scene feeling like it's been changed etc. For example (spoilers about the pilot), the whole Sonic getting ignored bit. Sonic gets ignored by one person in New Yoke gets frustrated. Ask why is he ignoring him? Then he says why does everyone ignore him even through he only talked to one person. Or how the major catalyst of events was done. The whole Eggman wanting Sonic to spin dash into him bit. Tails realizes that Eggman is not inside the robot and he is in a bad position on purpose, so this means this is a trap. So instead of warning Sonic and explaining why it's a trap. He instead just repeats the sentence "It's a trap'. I can keep going with more examples but I don't think it's worth it.

I was like,
"Sonic, you just literally talked to one person." Then again everyone else could have heard him yell out why is everyone ignoring me?
But yeah Tails not explaining why that whole Eggman part was a trap I was like,
"Tails, at least tell him why!"
Then again Sonic also should have trusted Tails enough to stop what he was doing as well. I pretty much see it both ways honestly.
I like all of these voices better than the current voices in the games. For me they feel like a mixture of Meta Era voices and Adventure era voices, and the result is amazing. Shadow especially I was really happy about because I don't like Kirk Thornton as Shadow at all whatsoever end of story. Personally I'm one of those people that wants the Prime voice cast to be in the games.
I believe it’s not experience but more of maturity, sonic always had experience or at least it didn’t changed as much between past and present but he was less mature and more cocky. Sonic kinda lost some of that as future games were made and “got older” (especially now that they removed his age) but I don’t mind it cause while I do like his current personality but I do miss his cocky and kid like personality

Matt, I believe that they've made sonic more clumsy because they want sonic to grow as a character as the series progresses. Deven Mack is a great voice actor and I enjoy the voice because it gives me a adventure game vibe because both sonics have the same upbeat energy. Something that confuses me though is why they brought back the sonic cd running style for modern sonic. It may seem like it makes sense because some people think that classic Sonic is younger sonic but as you said in another video classic Sonic is sonic from another dimension ( Sonic generations). The 8 episodes which were released are a build up for a bigger threat. This is why they left us with sonic and shadow in the void. Because there could be a bigger threat that has something to do with the void. This could be why shadow is warning sonic or the shards could be more dangerous than sonic knows.
Apparently classic sonic was indeed just a younger sonic since in frontiers they do reference the fact that the classic evenings did happen. However the timeline split once generations happened, where classic had more adventures such as the events in mania, which is why he is the referred to him being from a different dimension

I binge-watched this in one morning. This is one of the best Sonic Shows.
The show is great, especially the animation for it. I know the way Sonic and his friends are written isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely solid. Besides, the show is exploring each characters flaws, and it’s interesting to see the flawed side of Sonic especially.

Okay wait hold on, quick detail, in the interview the dude says that its canon however, he follows that by saying Prime draws from the mythology and aspects from the mainline games. So think of it like how with Boom, everything was fresh like none of the 3&k events happened, Sa2 didnt happen, Generations didnt happen, CD didnt happen, etc all we knew it that the main cast are friends and that Sonics fast, tails is smart, knuckles is strong, etc. Whereas with Prime i think the point that the executive producer was making was that Prime loosely follows pre-estsblished things that happened in the games to a certain point like we see how 3&k stuff loosely happened, Tails getting bullied, etc. So i dont think he meant Prime is like before or after forces or frontiers but what he meant was elements in those happened

I love the series. And I get what you're trying to say but I don't necessarily agree IMO.
But to say that Sonic was just stupid throughout the whole thing and didn't care about his friends is just untrue. There were only like 1 or 2 things sonic did "stupid" and it was in the first episode. Sonic did make a mistake when he shattered the paradox prism & he didn't listen to did friends because he was too focused on winning. But at the end of episode 3 once he fully remembers everything that happened he realized it was all his fault and going forward tries to amend his mistake.
And in every AU he helps his friends variants so i don't know where "Sonic doesn't care about his friends at all" come from. And sonic lacking some social awareness doesn't equate to him being dumb.
And WDYM inexperienced. In prime it's mentioned that he had fought both kunkules & shadow before & Routinely beats Eggman. I mean sonic gets suckered punch and was put into a corner with supercharged badniks & the chaos council since it would be difficult for him and the rebels to fight 3 Eggmans at once. And struggle with thorn rose cause he was trying not to hurt her & the forest was too dense to run straight through. Yet there's so many moments of him being extraordinarily powerful despite he struggles.
And in the end of part 1 we now know that sonic's prime reality is gone cause it shattered along with the paradox prism. so Sonic & shadow need to get all the shards and put the prism back together.(The 3 shards we've seen so far is still in the pirate,jungle & city world & the Chaos council has a shard & can travel through shatterspace so they'll be a Constant threat)
I mean in sonic lost world Tails tried to warn sonic about the conch in Eggman's hand but sonic kicked it away anyway.
Then later in the game Tails tries to warn sonic about a trap but sonic rushes in anyway causing Tails to save him and get captured. Knuckles, Amy & their whole world would've die because of zeti & sonic's actions
In Sonic & the Black Knight he was tricked into helping Merlina.
In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Shahra used Sonic to collect the world rings for Erazor Djinn.
And in Sonic Frontiers, Sonic inadvertently helped free "THE END" from its prison despite suspicion from knuckles & Sage. Sage tells Sonic "And the voice that commands you. What if it is leading you to disaster." But sonic said "if it causes trouble, I'll beat them too". Like that didn't age well. And if Sonic's friends didn't save him, if Eggman & Sage didn't help get the emeralds, If Sage didn't sacrifice herself, their world would've been destroyed
Walked right into Eggman's trap in sonic 06 to exchange a chaos emerald for princess Elise. Even though Tails called out that it was obviously a trap.
Got outsmarted by Eggman into his trap in SA2 to save Amy
Got distracted by Eggman in unleashed allowing Eggman enough time to activate a trap.
So Sonic either sometimes rushes into action without a second thought falling into a trap, sometimes doesn't listen to his friend's warning, gets tricked multiple times into a trap or helping a villain, willing to help someone even if it's trap. Or unknowingly causes a Catastrophe like in Prime & frontiers & Lost world. Or unleashed once eggman zapped the emeralds out of sonic (because of sonic being distracted) and with its power shattered the earth.
Or gets distracted by Eggman because he said "he'll turn over a new leaf I swear." And responds with "well this new, fully Remorsed Eggman. If you've played nice I wouldn't had to break all your toys."
So prime sonic and game sonic are not so different when you really look at it all.
As sonic throughout the games have made repeated mistakes cause of his heart of gold or cockiness just like in Prime

I love the show so far. My issues with it though are like you mentioned, it being canon to the main series which makes no sense unless they mean it's canon in the sense that Sonic is a multiverse.
The formula is repetitive, it worked the first time, but just it doing it over and over again just felt a little stale. Along with this, the alternate worlds are either generic or boring. The best one being New Yolk City, I wish we stayed in that one longer, but I'm seeing what the creators are trying to build up. The jungle reality and pirate ones are kind of just odd choices, I'd wish they'd take from the lore of the series and expand on that. Like if the Echidna tribe survived.
One thing I also find weird is how there are multiple versions of Sonic's friends but not Sonic himself, or Shadow for that matter. This might be explained later, but it was something I picked up on. Otherwise, it's a great show, I'd give a 8/10.

Yeah prime being canon makes no sense, especially when you consider how freaked out Sonic was to be out of the forest/green hill when if it was canon he should've already been to multiple cities since Shadow and Rouge are there so the events of SA1 and 2 happened

I think out of all the voices, Ashleigh Ball as Tails was the most distracting for me personally. Don't get me wrong, I like her as a voice actor, but with my younger siblings obsessively watching mlp, all I heard was Rainbow Dash (and sometimes Applejack too), and they agreed too (one of them got disappointed when she thought we were watching mlp, only to see sonic when she walked in lol)
It just ended up being a bit too odd for us... But I did enjoy the rest of the cast (I agree with your Knuckles point tho), just as long as they stay in Sonic Prime. I love the game cast as they are rn, and I think it'd be better to keep Prime separate as they did with the movies (aside from Tails in the movie ofc)
I agree hearing Rainbow Dash and a little of Applejack from Tails definitely threw me off. Prefer the current cast we have for the games.

This is completely my opinion.
Good:
- Amazing animation
- Good story with potential
- Great voice acting(except knuckles in the first episode)
- Serious story that’s done properly
- I like Rouge being in the main crew even if it doesn’t make too much sense but I hope Team Dark is formed in the future and she joins them.
- I liked Sonics development. I had the same criticism that Sonic was characterised as too goofy, arrogant and stupid but I believe he changed throughout the season.
Bad:
- Shadows character is butchered. He feels like an angry knuckles except he’s fighting sonic for no reason and is getting angry for no reason. They did not have a good enough reason for him to fight Sonic. If he gets developed into his late SA2, heroes and 06 version(best version) of himself, this wouldn’t really be a con. His character is just not likeable for me rn and he’s my favourite character. He’s meant to be calm, collected and caring and he comes off as stupid and angry. Even when he was a villain in SA2 he was at least calm and not stupid.
- Forest arc felt like filler.
- Characters that don’t have a gap between their eyes really feel like they have one eyeball. It’s never been this obvious. It’s because the skin separating the eyes moves up way too much if that makes any sense. This kind of annoyed me as it makes Sonic look really goofy and weird.
- Shadow in this show makes no sense. Why is he roaming green hill completely alone when there is no obvious extreme threat. Him pulling that cheap punch on Sonic too really pissed me off. This is the same guy that stopped fighting Silver because he realised that’s Silver was being tricked. You’re telling me he doesn’t stop fighting Sonic when Sonic is attempting to explain the danger. I always thought of Shadow as a character who is always doing something important. He always comes in at the important moments. They forced him into the first season way too hard, I wish they found another way to do it or waited to put him in the show.
Overall, this show is a plus for Sonic and for his fan base. It’s going in the right direction too, I only see it getting better.
Going to be honest, I thought it was insufferable since the first minute. The writing, especially dialogue and characters, seemed like they were written by a small child, *not for one* .Sonic was the only character that didn’t make me reconsider if watching was worth the pain. The overall plot wasn’t a bad idea, they just made many wrong decisions in execution.

I'm really surprised people love Shadow on Prime. Maybe it's because it's only the first third of the season and there's a deeper reason we don't know yet, but why was Shadow pissed off at Sonic in the first place? I just don't understand why he punched Sonic at the end of the first episode, even after the end of the 8 episodes it felt so unjustified. And WHY is he introduced as Sonic's rival? I thought we were done with Shadow being his rival. they're supposed to work together. Even if it's in his own stubborn and serious way, in no way has he been rivalling Sonic since what, Heroes? idk man, Shadow just feels so out of line
This show is doing a pretty good take on Shadow that’s why, he’s not shown as a ‘Edgelord’ ( and arguably this is a pretty great voice for Shadow since Griffith) and he’s not out right insulting Sonic all the time, yea he punched the crap out of him first meeting but that’s because he knew he was the cause of the explosion aka world shattering, I mean sure he could have went after Eggman but Sonic is usually the one jumping into trouble, so it’s only logical to be him( also literally the fact Shadow saw Sonic destroy the prism)
And well Shadow is also reasonably upset, the home they had is gone and he was stuck in the void the entire time. I’m not sure if you skipped around the episodes but it clear as to why he acted why he did.

About the "Prime is canon to the games,") I also feel like Prime Sonic is coherent with Unleashed Sonic, at least to some extent, so it really depends on what Sega means when they say Sonic Prime is canon. Maybe they mean that this series is what Sega wanted the cast's portrayals to have been like in the latest games. Maybe they just wanted to give a big thumbs-up to the series and it was worded poorly. It can really mean anything...

She barely associates with this particular cast of characters but suddenly they're the best of friends? I get this is a different continuity. I'm just saying it's strange. I also don't enjoy the huge coincidence of despite being in entirely different universes everyone is still associated with each other. Really? Jungle dimension and literally the entire cast is within feet from each other the moment he travels there? There aren't even any other characters. It literally just them.

I also have to say that while I did notice Sonic meeting people over and over again and knew that it be a complaint by people I highly enjoyed it.
I really loved seeing Sonic at the jungle and hugely enjoyed Sonic being with the pirates heck I felt like the pirate episodes really connected with the Eggman Yolk City conflict very much especially when Rusty Rose came along to attack and the Eggman Council started noticing the other dimensions.
So I don't really get the complaint on why people are saying that it isn't connected.
I can even see in the future the jungle episode having connections to the story as well. It's just all exposition like Matthasnocuts said.
I just LOVE the characters of Nine, Rusty Rose, and of course, *The Chaos Council* . Someone gotta explain me how you (presumably) split yourself into five different people at different lifestates 😳
i soooo agree with the video about the pacing!! i hate that netflix series does have that formula you mentioned with certain shows, but with this one it really just didn't feel natural. i love sonic, and i love this series too actually, (i binged it on accident😂) but i can't help but feel like if they only had 8 episodes to work with, a slower and more fully fleshed out exposition would be perfectly fine with most fans. that's the one thing i'd wish they'd done differently; rather than introducing everything at once, expand more upon the settings that are already there. then when they do transition to different worlds and characters, it doesn't feel so rushed. not to mention those flashbacks were confusing me too at first😅😂

Even with some Flaws,the Series is Really Good and a Great Epilogue to the Year of Sonic and a Bright Future to the Franchise,I'm Ok with Things and Lore Being Different in Sonic Prime as it's a Dimensional Explore Story with Countless and Endless Possibilities with Different Versions of Characters,Hell Prime is Forces Done Right,Can't Wait to See More on Season 2.
For the pacing I would say finish the New Yoke story with Sonic and The Resistance and then he goes to the forest world and then after wrapping up that story make him go to the pirate world or something idk

I think you need to talk into account that even if Sega said this is canon (which I am not sure if that is true since I just heard of it from your video), it doesn't say when it takes place. Sonic in Sonic frontiers is older and more mature, Sonic in Sonic prime is younger and acts more similar to Movie sonic. High chances is that Prime Sonic came before Frontiers, not after.

Them saying Prime Sonic is Game Sonic reeks of "Classic Sonic is from another timeline" energy. I think it's a statement that makes no sense, there's no indication it's true, and they will walk back on it in the future.

Sonic acts the way he is because they want to build him a character arc, don't forget that redemption was one the bigger points of the show, this was told back in sonic central 1 when they teased sonic prime.
I get he's the main character but why make him a moron and ignorant when that isn't his character? Yeah different sonic and all. But if they really wanted to focus on character arcs, they have the whole cast of the sonicverse neglected in the games yet its still just the same group. Especially if the creator wants the show to be canon (even though thats nonsense lol)

True I would also rather have Sonic Prime be it's own thing like its own Interpretation of Sonic.
Rouge the Bat is meant to be a loaner character in the games and I can't see her being part of Sonic's Friends group in any shape in the cannon games.
So to me, Sonic Prime is similar to Sonic Underground, it's not the worst but it is best being it's own thing and that is what makes the series unique compared to the in cannon games.
Sonic Prime is the 3rd Best Sonic show by far, but until we get the conclusion of the series I don't want to put it any higher than 3rd.
Maybe 2nd by the ending seeing it's potential as I have Sonic X in 2nd in my personal view of best Sonic Shows.
And if Sonic Prime hits it out of the park with a major surprise for us all that has the desired result, I would be prepared to give it 1st but it will need to do allot to knock off Sonic SatAM from my personal 1st spot in Best Sonic series.
In regards to what Sonic cartoon is most accessible for the younger generation of gamers, I would say Sonic Prime is perhaps the best one but the best Sonic Cartoon series overall in my personal view is always going to be Sonic SatAM for nostalgia reasons.
So here's my thoughts of the VA's taking over the game. I wouldn't be mad if D mack takes the role of the blue blur in the games. I like the over confident but mature sound of his voice acting. Tails You can't get rid of and knuckles you can't. I think they should change the amy though. This amy nails the liking for sonic and friendship talks but doesn't sound like Mini Mouse or a 25 year old women. Thoughts?
Lol knuckles has two voice actors in the show. That’s why the normal knuckles sounded goofy while the rest were far better

I like Sonic Prime tho if I was to fix the show if it formulated the same way it does with Avatar The Last Airbender like how each season is set on a different elemental nation like if each season was 1 new alternative reality to this series it might work better rather than hop 1 reality to another in several episodes but that's just my take on it

There are 22 episodes made, this is JUST the introduction. Sonic changes over the games quite frequently and dramatically.
Still on the fence about shadow he just isn’t the type of shadow I wanted, sonic and shadow see each other and instantly started to fight and even talked like they don’t like each other at all. I’d prefer them to be actual friends or at least respect each other and I want shadow to be a calm intelligent instead of a brute. Maybe sonic and shadow will grow to like each other as the show goes on this shadow ain’t terrible but can still be improved upon

i can't sugarcoat this: prime universe knuckles' voice is legitimately bad voice acting. it's extremely distracting and i'm not sure how they were ok with that voice. the other knuckles voices are better because another voice actor voices every other version of knuckles for whatever reason. i'm still not a huge fan of the other knuckles voices because they don't feel like knuckles to me, but are still leagues better than original universe knuckles.
I think they actually changed the VA for knuckles between ep 1-2, which was a good call.
I really liked how they dealt with multiple universes myself because aside from the forest one(which was kinda neccessary to introduce multiple universes), the pirate one then immediately switched it up by showing the council beginning to affect the pirate world, they're even setting up different character arcs with rusty rose, dread knuckles(who may be a villain) and Nines.
I think my one real issue has been, the forest segment didn't have a potential sequel teased unlike dread knuckles so it feels oddly standalone.
And of course, Sonic's character.
I will say I do feel a lot of his actions are justified, because a lot of this aside from the main event isn't really his fault, he's being chucked around universes against his will, he's out of his depth and he can't rely on or even get a read on his friends due to their constant changes and in some cases they do not trust him due to his disappearing acts.
I really like the moment where Rebel Rouge calls him out on his jokes because he's just not capable of reading this new reality and his "friends" mood.
We're in early days and he's still trying to get his bearings on what is actually going on, if he keeps up being an idiot the whole way through, yeah I'll consider it an issue.
There is some cases I do feel he is being too stupid though, such as with getting caught in New Yoke due to being very loud.
