Honestly. Talking about Unleashed used to be fucking prohibited i swear lmao. An exaggeration ofc but you'd always get shit on man. It's luckily different now. Dunno why tho
Crazy how just the inclusion of the werehog pushed this game from virtually flawless if you don't count matter of opinion, into widely panned. By opinion I mean that the mechanics are "not sonic" or something when in any other game nobody could call them wrong. Let's say Sonic was fused with Knuckles and the game was otherwise the exact same, I think IGN would have to be a lot more creative complaining about it. Actually yeah, some kind of Ladyhawke situtaion might have been pretty cute.
Alternate premise I wrote to Sonic Unleashed. Or perhaps to Sonic Unleashed 2. Eggman wants to create a world of his own, called Eggman Land, and for this reason he wants to capture entire planets. Wisp cluster, Lost Hex, Little Planet, you name it. When he found out that Angel Island is its own planet capable of lifting off of the earth with its natural power source Master Emerald, comparable to Chaos Emeralds of Earth and Time Stones of Little Planet, he figured out a way to make Gaia repel the Chaos Emeralds, which would make each of them a Master Emerald of a landmass of its own. These seven lands could then be the seven new planets at the foundation of Eggman Land, impossible to bring back together because they're governed by mutually repulsive Chaos Emeralds that will never again come together on one planet. Trying to prevent this from happening Sonic and Knuckles get caught up in the process themselves. Facing death, or worse, Knuckles uses the Master Emerald to neutralize the damage, with the ultimate side effect that they now become fused with the Master Emerald. They are now one solid being but forever separated, Red Sonic and Blue Knuckles, and with the help of their respective halves of the guardian spirits Chaos and Tikal, they set off to set things straight. With no direct line of communication, and each trying to cooperate while working through the most unfamiliar side of their own personality, the mission to collect the Chaos Emeralds will not be an easy one.
"Y'know, a gimmick. One of those things only Mario's allowed to have" I was not expecting such a powerful statement right there. I dunno if you intended to or not but you basically called out everyone who criticizes gimmicks, and you have earned respect for it my man
@@adrianBtabares I hated Fludd, but to me, the power ups and Cappy felt like the Spindash or Boost does to Sonic. Just parts of the game that make it more enjoyable rather than nerfing the primary statistics of the main character, like the Wisps tend to do.
Man this game has such a good vibe, the way we get to know different cultures around the world, eat their typical food, listen to the local soundtrack, talk to people and appreciate the landscape it is all so heart warming, those unlockable custences that shows simple things like Sonic and Chip chilling, fighting over food it is all so charming
I swear, if we lived in a timeline where every Sonic game received the same amount of dedication and effort like Unleashed had, we'd probably be living in the best timeline
@@benatrix7965 oh no. It's another one of those lame sonic game lovers! Get rekt man. Unleashed is the best sonic game in the series. And I would fight you to prove I'm right.
I Don't think being "Slow" is necessarily bad, Sonic Games are about Momentum; if the game manages to keep a slower pace, while still retaining the momentum factor, then it'll still work. It's why I say the biggest problem with the Werehog levels is not the slower platforming and exploration, but the Combat system feeling like it's contantly resetting the momentum every few seconds.
@Welp Well yes but actually no. momentum means building up speed, speed is a reward for momentum based games like how classic and adventure games did. unlike the boost games where you just gain it by press of a button.
Unleashed Mode and Spinning Needle Attack are actually fast things the Werehog can use but that combat move can be spammed as much as you want, you can reach the same time when using the Boost but it's not the exact same speed, it's still much faster and you can make the Werehog faster, you can literally make him flow and move faster if you're an expert and if only I can enter the Flow State again, I could be able to get through levels like Eggman Land in a breeze, I did actually go around the pipes and brutal parts of the level without hesitating and falling off them while being unstoppable with him and also Sonic because my hands were on automatic and couldn't move around or break from it until I finished the game or something but still, I can't do it anymore especially to that extent because it pushed my body to its limits, peaked if you will so I am stuck with not being unstoppable or flawless.
fuck you and every one who say that seriously cant we have other game styles hah cant we the game already have a fast paced gameplay so we can have other gameplays I love the werehog I love the mecha stages I love the treasure hunting stages I love them all let the sonic team experiment more dont judge the gameplay based on the idea but judge the excution
this game holds such a special place in my heart. the characters, the world and everything feels full of personality and charisma, that is why i love it so much. and not to mention i LOVE the soundtrack, they really put a lot of care and love in to making it
@@fang2304 to me, the ONLY TWO faults the game has is making the homing attack button the same as the boost button, and the same darn battle music for werehog. Aside from that, this game is just perfect
No lie I actually like almost everything about the werehog, it's design, it's purpose, and the concept. I honestly don't think the werehog is that bad nor do I think it was a bad idea or uneccesary. You could argue that most gimmicks in any video game are uneccesary, but this in my opinion is one of the more interesting of gimmicks of Sonic. The werehog is just too damn badass.
I feel like people would of enjoyed it more if you was playing as a character like Knuckles instead. People just didn’t like the idea of the werehog thinking it was stupid 😅
Sonic Unleashed is literally a playable movie. The cutscenes look LIKE A PIXAR FILM and the gameplay itself looks great to. The gameplay even has a cinematic feel to it in Unleashed and I love it. I love the human designs to in Unleashed because they *actually* fit in with the sonic universe. Sonic Unleashed is the fastest Sonic game I’ve ever played and it’s just amazing. I can’t believe they made so many fast levels last so long with the addition of alternate cutscenes. They even added the werehog levels and the hub worlds. That’s a lot of work. Compare that to forces. Gosh, unleashed is just so good. I could praise it all day. There’s definitely some flaws though, but I still really like it. It’s my second favorite sonic game. It’s just *barely* behind generations. Adventure is my third favorite. Oh, and Unleashed has the best sonic soundtrack. Rooftop Run and Endless Possibilities are the best in the series, and two of my favorite songs of all time.
Just one little detail in this review. The boost was implemented for the first time on Sonic Rush, and Sonic Unleashed is the first game to implement the boost on 3D. One thing I like about this game is that you can give different kinds of food to Chip and read his reactions. A nice touch if I have to say it.
Ah yes someone actually knows that Sonic Rush inspired the boost mechanic in a 3D platformer as we all will remember as Sonic Unleashed which brought us the joy and happiness we needed after that sorry excuse of a so called sonic game (sonic o6) and even though Sonic Unleashed was hated it wasn’t by me and many other people who actually know what a sonic game is and that I think that to me Sonic Unleashed is the best of all the sonic games to this day from the day that game was released even though I knew that SEGA wouldn’t follow the awesomeness of Sonic Unleashed, it’ll still stay in my heart as the shining light that brings me joy and memories when I hear/see its soundtrack and story. And I want to point out one thing before I go and it is that even when I saw that IGN gave Sonic Unleashed a 7/10 rather than the 4.5 I was still mad at that because the rating needed a 10 because the game is so good that I can fight a game about it. We will miss you Sonic Unleashed and I wish SEGA the greatest amount inspiration as moving forward
@Revived Mo I fucking loved this game when i was 7-9. (so around a year or two after the game was released?) It was the only sonic game I'd played at the time aside from sonic heroes. Granted I had the ps2 version which was objectively worse but I think I was too young and stupid to really care about the quality. But after 7 years of lost interest in sonic due to the games not resonating with me as much like with boom and then forces, playing the ps3 version of the game all the way through when I couldn't when I was younger made me realize why I fell in love with the sonic franchise in the first place and why I loved it so much as a kid. And it confused the hell out of me why nobody has been talking about it until recently. It took 11-12 years just for it to get attention. So I understand the frustration, it's like where were you people when it first came out? It makes me happy now that people are starting to acknowledge and appreciate it, but damn it sucks that it didn't get it sooner... Like I know the sonic community has a mixed view in what they want in a sonic game, but I hope all of us could agree on that we want a sonic game that shows sega actually cares about the games they're making. You get that feeling when you play this game, you feel it in the levels and backgrounds, you feel it in the diverse music, in the simple and well paced story and characters that aren't subjected to being shells of a concept, the tone that is consistent from beginning to end. Effort and care is something that should stay consistent in a Sonic game, but now it's all about playing it safe now just to stay afloat.
I think this game was the first time I’d seen Sonic insecure about something? That was really refreshing. The fact that the game begins with Sonic losing is very powerful and it makes a very subtle improvement to his character. One of the first things he says is “I just need to be careful who sees me like this.” Several people see him as a monster now. Amy and Tails don’t initially recognise him and you can tell Sonic is hurt by that. He’s not just cocky Sonic anymore; he’s still confident but now he has to deal with a whole new body, a whole new appearance and whole new powers as well as the fate of world. The way Sonic just ran away from Amy after saving her just broke my heart. But when Chip told him that it was his own integrity that was keeping him good, that it was his strength alone that kept his humanity; I think it was a beautiful way to end that character arc. Again, it’s very subtle and maybe the game should’ve done more with this storyline. But I think the Werehog does something subtly amazing for Sonic’s character development.
I’m a year late, but I totally agree! The cutscenes with Tails and the one where he actually gets distressed that Amy walks away from him because she doesn’t recognize him always hit close to home. Normally, that’s what he’d want, but now he knows it’s because he isn’t really himself anymore. You can literally feel his sadness and loneliness without his friends :,)
Do you wanna hear a joke Before 10 min I was downloading sonic unleashed rom I opened UA-cam and a sonic unleashed video show up from a channel I didn't see before
The CGI Cutscenes of SRZG made me really want a HD Remake of it and SFR already achieved that as when you look like this I've made twitter.com/trey_hamby/status/1347610916175503360?s=19, you can agree that it's beautiful because yes you don't have to play it for story or controls but not the level designs, graphics and models because how? They're beautiful and actually are alive, there's so much things going on and they're natural so why wouldn't you want that to apply to SRZG? The CGI Cutscenes are also very glorious and the moment when Babylon Garden has the Arks of the Cosmos/Engine Parts that make it start to glow and the sand in the desert rushes rapidly to the Tower, crashing in and the effects of the objects making the glass shards float before Tornadoes start to form with a hurricane is truly intense and insane, SRZG would be just as if not more gorgeous if it became like the version Sonic Unleashed we see in the video and Gravity Control has a CGI Counterpart in the Opening and Meteor Burst has a CGI Counterpart in the Wallpaper, I feel including that Monopole which is connected to all Levels from Megalo Station or that's what I'm getting, it's shown in the cover leaving Megalo Station which is in the background and that Wallpaper which would be a perfect addition as we travel long distances to Botanical Kingdom, MeteorTech Premises, Aquatic Capital, etc., there's different looks of locations on the map and there's Concept Art which honestly would be great to include for a Remake but the regular cutscenes show every Level is different like the CGI cutscenes so it makes sense going there.
Sonic Unleashed was my first Sonic game. In fact, it was my first exposure to Sonic as a whole. 14 years later, and Sonic is still my favorite video game franchise of all time. I still love the opening cutscene because it was all little 8 year old me needed to understand what this franchise was all about. I may not have beat the game until my senior year of high school, but I loved that game enough to get hooked on Sonic and check out all of his other amazing games. That's why Sonic Unleashed will always hold a special place in my heart
Coming back to this game both feels like coming home and also bittersweet, knowing we most likely won't get a game like this ever again. A small part of me still hopes that Sonic Team can go back, but the last 10 years are difficult to overlook. It's a tragedy.
@@jamrah8713 Colors is loved because it has 'good' gameplay (even thought it's bad),people ignored the fact that it has shit writing, the concept of Eggman capturing planets and using the aliens as fuel is pretty cool but the story and writing ruins it. Generations is loved because nostalgia, the story and writing is still shit but people doesn't bat an eye at it. I blame Generations for making future Sonic games use nostalgia to make people play the games. Also,Mania is the only sonic game after Unleashed that I genuinely love.
@@AbgHadi Though Generations has a really bad writing, the level design is amazing (except Planet Wisp imo), a god amount of fun side missions, and great graphics, soundtrack and gameplay as always. The problems I have, aside from the writing, are that I felt the game was way too short and some of the boss fights are pretty lame, specially the final boss which was a complete disappointment to me.
Sonic Unleashed: Best Story ✅ Best Graphics ✅ Best Soundtrack ✅ Introduced New Ideas✅ Actual Fun Boost ✅ Great Art Direction✅ An Actual Challenge✅ Jason Griffith✅ Eggmanland✅ Heroic Sonic✅
@@AK46supr generations boost was weird imo, the boost would push you forward and then would speed up but only a little, a slower boost than unleashed, where it would just speed up and goes fast and fast, the drift was also making you fast too, which made the boost really fun
@@pizzaharambe3356 unleashed felt like that cause you could level up the speed making it insane speeds but harder to control. Where as gens had a set speed but small maneuvers could increase it. The drift was just waaay to lose in unleashed. Some stages its just better to not try, cause even when u feel you nailed it, cause sonics momentum is too powerful in unleashed. Your going more forward than to the side you're turning at I do like unleashes difficulty like in acts 2-3 & DLC as i wish it would return. But i like gens tighter controls and drift better. Cant forget the better mapped button layout also If u like unleashes control thats your opinion
Sonic Generations and Sonic Unleashed are some of the greatest video games of all time. Not kidding. I love the sense of speed in these games. Sonic Unleashed’s story is EPIC and Sonic isn’t some cheesy sociopath. And the graphics- SEGA should use Unleashed’s engine for the next game. Like seriously, that cutscene looks like a PIXAR movie. (Although I never really cared much about chip... and Tails was just kinda... there) And although I hope Ian Flynn writes the next game, Unleashed’s writers will always be unbeatable. And Endless Possibilities is (one of) my favorite songs of all time. (It’s kinda sad we might never see boost stages like Unleashed / Generations again...) I’ve really been wondering why Sonic games haven’t been this good in years. It turns out Unleashed was going to be the last Sonic game so SEGA went all out. It sold well, the makers went on to create generations, and then they went to work at Nintendo. :/ And then Sonic lost world and boom happend. And then forces. Why.
I hope they can use the engine to make a SRZG HD Remake because there's many things provided for one for it including the HD Wallpaper with a Meteor Burst and they've made Sonic Free Riders as the game with such an engine, like take a look at the Levels & Model quality and you'll see why it's possible, go take a look at everything in the CGI Cutscenes of SRZG and pause parts to take it all in while looking at the main game, both versions and you'll come to understand why I'm obsessed with this specific game to get a treatment of a HD Remake because what I've seen in the cutscenes such as shots I've taken, I know it will be far more fun than the existing version but aside from that, Knuckles could have more times to be important as he shines in Aquatic Capital and Gigan Rocks cutscene while the level Gigan Rocks has him as who you control before you finish and lead to the cutscene of that level is why it would be a great reason to want this made and actually play it while experiencing all the Levels in the glory of CGI.
@@artistanthony1007 A Zero Gravity remaster would be interesting, but I think they should reuse the engine to make something completely original. Maybe a Sonic Riders 3 or new boost game. The engine was made with the first version of the hedgehog engine. It had some FPS issues but I’m sure they can fix that on modern consoles
@@ds-rv9qu Really?? That would be amazing!! I hope SEGA hires her! Ian Flynn would be cool to but Unleashed’s writing is so darned good and Sonic is full of emotion. I’m worried they won’t rehire this person... (Can you post a link to the tweet?) I wonder why she was replaced by new writers in the first place. Strange...
Sonic Unleashed was pretty much the first Sonic game I've played. I remember walking everyday from my grandmas house to my aunts to play this game on a fat PS3. That was over 10 years ago. This game marked me so much. The story, the levels, the fast pacing and adrenaline of the day levels and the the fighting beat'em up night levels had me glued to the screen. The game has its flaws but I wish reviewers had been more level headed at the time and gave a more honest review. Sonic Team cared about this game a lot and it shows. It would be so awesome if this game got a remaster with current gen graphics, better controls and camera.
I loved this game for its stage length, music, and descriptive depth. I could look at the world all day. As a kid I felt like I was there. Unleashed did something different and unique. If Sega and sonic team followed the formula of this game, then sonic games after 2008 would be bestsellers especially with the improvement of technology.
They DID hear us. Back in 2008-2010 the only thing sega got was HATE from sonic unleashed. We won't get a great quality game like this ever again due to the fools who said this game was as bad as sonic 06. Sonic unleashed is my favorite sonic game and is in my top 10 favorite games in general.
@@stephaniejohnson5361 I agree. And in my Opinion Generations is almost as good. Just that the story and exploration is lacking. Funny how you say 2010 though. In my opinion Generations is better than Colors
@@ShineSpriteGamermy personal list of sonic games is 1)Sonic Unleashed (duh) 2) Sonic Colors 3) Sonic Generations I feel sonic generations has a really good idea for the game, just the gameplay and world layout could’ve been a bit improved. But it was still great
This game would be my absolute favorite game in the series if it was a bit more adventure oriented. but besides that, the game is perfect! I also like calling it Sonic World Adventure, It's actual name.
Fun fact: Sonic Unleashed was planned to being Sonic’s final debut and last entry as it even had the balls to be called Sonic Adventure 3 at one point. Sega wanted to bring out everything for the hedgehog by making him go fast as ever, making the story and stakes the highest they go and wanted to focus extremely on a fast gameplay with beautiful graphics. The werehog was simply implimented in the game because Sega wanted a gameplay style that was “unique” and not the same thing. The irony of this game is insane. Back then, people wanted Sonic to return to formula especially after 06 and today, people want Sega to strive for originality. The problem we face is that Unleashed can be called the end of old Sonic and these meta era modern games is the start of this new Sonic. Even though Old had new, while new is just old...
I think it was a fake rumor that this was supposed to be the last game, it was only created because people were saying the series needed to end after 06. Everything else you said was true tho.
to be honest sonic unleashed could have been a great finale, the story is pretty good without being too edgy, the graphics aged good, the sonic boost formula was great in this game , the werehog is ok, the soundtrack is one of my favorites, eggmanland is my personal favorite final stage in any sonic game and in general this game shows the peak of sonic modern games.
From what I heard, others have said that people begged to not add new characters, so sega came up with the idea of the werehog to create a new game mode without adding new characters, but people hated it after the release of the game. Such irony. Those people got what they asked for so there’s no reason for them to be pissed off…
I miss the sonic games from the late 90s-early 00s. They had so much more passion in them and the fames were so good not counting 06 even tho 06 had a good story.
I remember always watching my older brother playing this game, and it became my favourite Sonic game. I adore the soundtrack and how the game looks. Like, the opening cutscene looks absolutely stunning! And the soundtrack had my head bopping a lot. But I agree that the Werehog Battle Theme is very repetitive, and it's a bit jarring to go through a night stage and suddenly a jazz band is busting through the wall, playing instruments harder than my self esteem crumbling in secondary school. After hearing it every time you are battling, it gets old fast. And Sun and Moon medals are painful to get (mainly with the Day Stages), and it's infuriating to have to go back into previous levels to get the medals in order to play a stage. Regardless, I still really like the game. It may be personal bias since I grew up with the game, but I like it.
Finished this game yesterday and honestly I totally agree. Such a fantastic game! NOW LET'S GET A PC PORT CMON SEGA, I WANT TO PLAY THIS AT 144 FPS 2K RESOLUTION 😤
First of all so much *YES* to this video Second of all I disagree with the complaint that the NPC’s aren’t panicking about the world being over, because 1. We see a cutscene of the ice cream vender crying and sobbing about how “we’re all doomed” and that the world was coming to an end. 2.Also the NPC’s are aware of the detachment of the planet as they mention their perspectives on it whenever asked. 3. Infact Eric and Anastasia the two old people in apotos actually travel to chunan as a form of celebrating the world coming back together. The game feels alive and is a detail people don’t recognise. It made me feel like I was actually impacting the characters and that they are actually reactive to the world they live in.
The best thing about this game, is that the humans actually looks like they belong to Sonic's world, and not these anime/realistic creatures called "humans"
The intro gives me sonic x vibes from the first episode. I like that sonic has natural emotions in this: he gets cocky, happy, and excited. But he also shows real fear, doubt, and even pain as he transforms into the warehog. The speed is fantastic; I love that in the runs, you can absolutely tear through the levels like an absolute speed demon. The warehog levels are also fun: I like that you can make sonic stronger and beat the crap out of the monsters. Like my goodness, does anyone else find their anger leaving as they tear up a gaia monster? It makes the harder levels more satisfying when you finally win. I love that it’s dark and they really put the knife in for certain situations. You really feel what sonic is going through. You feel the bond he has with his friends, which makes it that much more tragic when chip disappears, or when they have that final moment with the sunset. I love that Amy is there, and she’s chill. I love that she’s used properly for once, as a caring friend that sonic can rely on in his lowest moment. And btw, the food in this game looks absolutely scrumptious! I find myself wanting a chili dog or Hero Sandwich whenever I play.
Now this. This is something I agree with. Everyone just blindly hates it because of the Werehog, thats it when they could hate it for other reasons like idk the medal collecting? While Unleashed isnt why #1 Fav Sonic game, I would definitely put it in the Best Sonic Game right next to SA2.
Sonic Unleashed was probably the most ambitious Sonic game ever. You can just tell Sonic Team was trying their hardest to make this the best Sonic game yet
It definitely is, but the response it got was really sad. I'll honestly bet too that most Unleashed haters haven't even played the game/finished it. No other Sonic game felt like it had this much love and effort put into it.
The werehog is my favorite part of unleashed. I loved the level's length, the difficulty, the hack in slash combat. If the werehog was absent from S.Unleashed, then it probably wouldn't be my favorite sonic game.
@@clonesaga2802 the levels sometimes were a lil to long and most sonic fans probably aren’t fans of hack and slash combat I loved it and the jazzy were hog theme slaps but they were a lil tedious
People complained that the werehog is slow, those people obviously didn’t either finish the game or barely level up the werehog. I levelled up to the max and the gameplay is satisfying with all the unique combos and the speed. Actually, the amount of combos you have unlocked is directly proportional to how fast you complete the werehog levels.
That is true Sonic Unleashed will never be Sonic Unleashed without the werehog It’s like saying Twilight Princess will never be Twilight Princess without Wolf Link
Unleashed...Honestly it seems like the last Sonic game that had a budget. The tone and feel was pixar like, they even had the resources to do little Sonic and Chip mini-episodes.
Imagine a ground-up remake of Sonic Unleashed where the daytime stages are handled by Sonic Team and some fans, while the night stages (and Werehog combat) are done by the guys who made the combat for Devil May Cry 5 and/or Ninja Gaiden (with some overseeing by Sega so they don't stray too far from what makes Sonic Sonic).
Oh my God thank you I agree I love Sonic unleashed people didn't really like it as soon as it came out but I immediately fell in love with it the werehog parts may feel slow and dragged on but I really loved the fast combat and when it was Sonic you could speed through levels in your seconds or minutes it really had a style for every type of player
Great review, its nice to see someone not just throw the werehog under the bus. Arguably I think I enjoy the werehog gameplay as much as modern sonic. Really wish they`d put this kinda budget into newer sonic games, its unreal how this game that came out so long ago, looks leagues better than any that's come out afterwards.

Unleashed fans, rise up! This is the last Sonic game that I truly fell in love with. Still in my top 3 Sonic games. Especially since it’s the last time it felt like Sonic Team put 100% of their effort into making a truly fantastic game. And also the last time Sonic actually felt like Sonic... Thanks for ruining that, Pontac and Graff... AND FOR GOD’S SAKE, SEGA, PUT THIS GAME ON STEAM ALREADY!!!
Sonic is one of those series that I has a special place in my heart and unleashed is my favorite. Not only is it nostalgic for me, but I found it genuinely really fun, both the day and night sections. The day sections were that familiar sonic experience with the night sections being very different but also something that resonated with me so much that I almost prefers them over the day levels. Just the glowing bodies of the nightmare enemies and the overall aesthetic and atmosphere is sublime. The day levels were also fantastic, traveling the world and seeing all the different architectural styles, cultural differences and other scenery made it very enjoyable. The music is great too, the music that plays when you’re in the temples is one of my favorite songs in all of gaming and makes the night levels even more of a treat for me. One of these days I’ll plug in my Wii U again and find another copy and relive those good times like my life depends on it
Sonic Unleashed, my favourite game of all time. It was going to be the last Sonic game but then Sonic Unleashed proved to the developers that they can make quality games
You forgot the drift :'D That got fixed with Generations as well. But yeah, this game needs a re-release on 9th gen (not just simple backwards compatibility with the same 30FPS cap, but unlocked to 120 on them) and PC with fully unlocked FPS, as far as your rig can push it, no doubt. We have the HW to push this game to new heights (we've had it for over 10y now on PC as well, and more recently with mid 8th gen consoles).
Thankfully on Series X (& presumably Series S as a byproduct) the game runs at a locked 30FPS 100% throughout. With Microsoft in the talks about frame rate doubling methods, maybe we'll have a chance to have it run at full 60FPS without any intervention from Sega. Just having the game available with an uncapped framerate without having to bruteforce it through emulation & modding out frame rate caps would be stellar.
@@MarkoDinicDinke Sadly though it's unlikely for such an uncapped framerate to happen anytime soon for Series X/S until Microsoft is able to work around various engine limitations. Sonic Unleashed in particular makes heavy use of Havok, which is kind of known for being fucky when reacting to uncapped framerates. At least for now you can always emulate it on PC with 60FPS should you have the PC for Xenia or RPCS3.
Not always, I tried emulating on rpcs3, it's actually stable there, but runs worse than on xenia... Still could get a lot during day time stages and when there weren't many enemies on the screen during night time stages. But it was sitting at 40-50+ like 70-80% of the time. And I have a decent CPU... :'D
When i was a kid, i always thought unleashed was this cool game that i just got stuck at and never completed, even know i still love this game, and eventually wanna get it for the series x to play it smoothly
My own reasons for thinking Sonic Unleashed is the best Sonic game are................... the opening movie, everything about the werehog, the fact you don't actually need to go fast, and the story........... but it's more or less the only Sonic Game Story that I know(NOT THAT I EVEN KNOW HALF OF THAT STORY) sooo I don't know if any games have a better Sonic story.
I disagree that it’s the best Sonic game but it is still pretty great. My problem with Unleashed is that you need to collect medals to continue the game and that makes it less fun to replay again.
I’ll defend it: Sun and Moon medals help you appreciate everything and all the hard work that went into this game. You have to explore around and look at all he secret paths/scenery. It also can train the player to get better at levels because some medals are difficult to get, teaching the player how to use your moveset efficiently. It can also teach you and give you a heads up of what difficulty of this game you’re getting into. To get all required medals, you need commitment and hard work, and Unleashed makes sure you’re aware.
@@PiggyPooPro Not "commitment and hard work," you need patience and a guide. If you're forced to explore, maybe the player should be entrapped within the game experience themselves rather than with mandatory backtracking?
@@supertoad6425 You're absolutely correct. Early in forces life cycle I thought it was gonna be some darker story in the same style as Sonic SatAM (Although rose-tinted goggles may be making that show better in my memory and I'm too scared to watch it again and check hah) Or at least a game that leans into the "Is Sonic ok" a little more. If they turned around and said, no classic Sonic, just the rookie, Sonic shows up in the last level and you can play as him in any stage on new game+, That might have been better than "He was captured and Tortured? for 6 months, but he's ok now and we don't really know why the rookie is still the main character"
Couldn't agree more, man! MY GOSH, the dialogues in Sonic Forces were so poorly written that it ended up being extremely cheesy and cringe-inducing. 😖😓
I remember seeing a playthrough of this game and despite not actually playing it physically. I felt emotional during the ending when Chips voice said “I’ll be here by you, always” when Sonic put the bracelet on, then we hear Endless Possibilities play as the cutscene wraps up. Like I really FELT something
Love this game, about the sound track it’s brilliant because they incorporate instruments from our world equivalents for each location in the world. And I love the werehog. Personally love endless possibilities and reach for the stars, they are better than live and learn and open your heart in my opinion.
Just finished playing Frontiers, and Unleashed still is the best sonic game ever made, the excellent level design, increidible graphics, soundtrack, and insane sense of speed are unmatched. What a gem
Generations is my favorite Sonic game, I loved unleashed too, but it has a lot of flaws like the inconsistent FPS, annoying medal collecting, long length of Werehog stages & Homing attack being mapped to the X / or Square Button
I love seeing these long videos talking about how great unleashed was, Was and still is my favorite sonic game to date. i love every aspect of it (ok i hate the medals and tails missions but i think we all do) i just want this game to be shown into the light agin
Has anyone else played the Wii version of this game? Because it handles the medals in the day stages exactly like you suggested. I swear, using the pro controller on the Wii version of this game is some of the most fun I've ever had and I wish more people would talk about it as much as they talk about the ps3 and xbox version.
I'm happy this video exists. For years now people have been hating on Unleashed. And nowadays people give 06 unwarranted love more than Unleashed. Great video. Edit: To elaborate before I start getting bashed, what I mean is people have been giving 06 love for the concepts. I agree the idea for the game was cool, but that still doesn't make it an objectively good game is what I'm trying to say. Hell, I enjoyed 06 the first time I played it when I was eight. And if you like 06, I'm not judging. That's all.
It feels like once a certain amount of years after a game releases in the franchise, that the majority of the fanbase's opinion of the game changes. About five years ago i think it was, when hate for Sa2 came along, eventually 06 started getting love, and Unleashed is kinda getting the love that its deserved now. Honestly in about 10 years i feel like Mania is gonna be overrated and Forces will be considered a bashed masterpiece.
@@apothisiii5549 At least Generations plot had the dignity to be nonexistent, unlike the other 2010s shitshows of storytelling. But I still agree with you. I never minded the Werehog
I hope one day they will make a hybrid of boost and adventure where you don’t do boosting by pressing a button and it has to be earned by going through intense speed.
Or just have both. Have most of the levels be adventure style but then have levels where sonic has to speed up for a certain reason which would be the boost sections. Kind of like how it was in 06 I guess but better
Okay so what I’m about to write is just my childhood with this game and how much I love this game holy crap this is one of my most favorite games. When I think of sonic I immediately think of just standing in Apotos at night as the werehog just listening to this music, pretending to be a dog running around and breaking vases. Playing as the werehog was so amazing for me, the music and everything. No doubt I have memories of getting stuck on the stages and getting angry at dying and having to go through a ton of more battles to get back to where I was, but that made it special for me, no matter how tedious it was. Playing as sonic racing around was stunning for me, the music and just blasting through the levels was exhilarating for young me. I’ve had so many amazing moments, the ending of sonic unleashed deadass got me tearing up. The music made me feel so accomplished. Whenever I think of sonic unleashed I feel so nostalgic, that sad type of nostalgic but happy nostalgic as well. It reminds me of how amazing things used to be and just how happy I was as a kid and how great life seemed. That definitely adds to my love for this game because of the nostalgia factor but the game absolutely pulls me into it as well. The scenery, detail, soundtrack, gameplay. It’s so amazing. This game is my most favorite game. Not just my favorite sonic game, my favorite game I’ve ever played. It holds a place in my heart like no other, Sega crushed it with this game and I love it so much. I feel it’s so unfair the hate that this game gets. Sonic unleashed is undoubtedly my most favorite game. I truly believe that sonic unleashed deserves way more hype than it gets. I wrote this on another sonic unleashed video and I had to paste it here because this sums up just how much I love this game.
Everytime you bring up a positive point I keep having flashbacks to how awesome my playthrough of this game way. It's honestly still my favourite sonic game.
I love Chip's love/obsession with chocolate because the first food he ever had when waking up was chocolate chip ice cream. It holds a special place in his food loving heart
I can agree. this is by far my favorite Sonic game, and quite possibly the most underrated in the series. I have actually seen a surprising amount of channels (Top 10 Gaming specifically) Put this on the 10 worst sonic games for the Werehog specifically, when the Werehog isn't really that bad. It can get annoying at times, but was a fun change of pace most of the time. Overall, the game is really fun, heartwarming, and funny. I do agree that it is one of if not the best in the series
This is kind of irrelevant, but I’m learning English pronunciation by watching this video over and over again. This might be because your video is just so clear that even Japanese like me can make out what you mean.
I agree on the cutscene. First time I played this game I wanted a animated movie with that animation. I thought it was so well done and still do. The animation through this game has been some of my favorite through all sonic games.
The biggest things that surprises me in this game is the graphics, its a game from 2008 and it just looks amazing. looks better than any other sonic game imo and it also had my fav somic voice actor
Honestly yes! One of my favourite Sonic games as well, loved the opening sequence, how the pacing changes between the daytime and nighttime stages, the music was incredible, just they got so much right with this game, I honestly hate that it was a meme at the time, great game!
I still have the ps3 version, and yeah, this one bit in the jungle section, the frame rate does drop, even noticeable for someone like me, who barely cares about stuff like that. But for me it was only this one part and it's stil playable
@@SilverSpireZ Talking about seaside hill I think I prefer the heroes one more than the generations' just because I like the vibrant colors from seaside hill and the generations one mixes seaside hill and ocean palace

I Don't think being "Slow" is necessarily bad, Sonic Games are about Momentum; if the game manages to keep a slower pace, while still retaining the momentum factor, then it'll still work. It's why I say the biggest problem with the Werehog levels is not the slower platforming and exploration, but the Combat system feeling like it's contantly resetting the momentum every few seconds.
the reason Why I like Adventure formula.

@Revived Mo
I fucking loved this game when i was 7-9.

I’ve really been wondering why Sonic games haven’t been this good in years. It turns out Unleashed was going to be the last Sonic game so SEGA went all out. It sold well, the makers went on to create generations, and then they went to work at Nintendo. :/
And then Sonic lost world and boom happend.

This game would be my absolute favorite game in the series if it was a bit more adventure oriented. but besides that, the game is perfect! I also like calling it Sonic World Adventure, It's actual name.
E
"Story and stakes the highest they'll go." 06 had bigger stakes than this game alone, this is one of the most generic stories in the series

If you have a Xbox series x or ps5 you can get amazing graphics and high FPS
And you can play unleashed on both of them
@@firephoenixgamez9847 not well on ps5 because it's ps3 streaming
First of all so much *YES* to this video
Second of all I disagree with the complaint that the NPC’s aren’t panicking about the world being over, because
And they still making me laugh or smile because how goofy they are lol
The anime style humans didn't really look bad until o6
Yeah, they look like Disney characters lol
@@D00DM00D no, they don't
@@Omega-jg4oq Uhh, i didn't meant on a bad way
The intro gives me sonic x vibes from the first episode.
Fun fact, the writer for this game (Kiyoko Yoshimura) also worked on Sonic X; that's why the vibes are so similar. I wish they bring her back.
Tbh the werehog stage was actually my favorite thing to play in the game it’s a unpopular opinion but it was quite enjoyable for me atleast
Now this. This is something I agree with. Everyone just blindly hates it because of the Werehog, thats it when they could hate it for other reasons like idk the medal collecting? While Unleashed isnt why #1 Fav Sonic game, I would definitely put it in the Best Sonic Game right next to SA2.
Which ones your number one?
@@benjamintyler6108 he said It,SA2
@@Juan_Star oh I see
The Werehog gameplay isn't perfect by any means, but it's no where near as bad as people made it out to be imo.
Sonic Unleashed was probably the most ambitious Sonic game ever. You can just tell Sonic Team was trying their hardest to make this the best Sonic game yet
Sonic Adventure 1 and 06 are more ambitious
It definitely is, but the response it got was really sad. I'll honestly bet too that most Unleashed haters haven't even played the game/finished it. No other Sonic game felt like it had this much love and effort put into it.
I think the reviews for this game are the reason they don´t want to take big budget ambition risk anymore
@@theminecraft2516 Maybe. There were more play styles in those games, but they didn't really have the same scope as Unleashed did.
But the werehog is a garbage character
The werehog is my favorite part of unleashed. I loved the level's length, the difficulty, the hack in slash combat.
If the werehog was absent from S.Unleashed, then it probably wouldn't be my favorite sonic game.
Same here I enjoyed it but sadly I see little reasons why people hate the werehog but I love the werehog imo
@@clonesaga2802 the levels sometimes were a lil to long and most sonic fans probably aren’t fans of hack and slash combat I loved it and the jazzy were hog theme slaps but they were a lil tedious
Same the Werehog is also my favorite part
People complained that the werehog is slow, those people obviously didn’t either finish the game or barely level up the werehog. I levelled up to the max and the gameplay is satisfying with all the unique combos and the speed. Actually, the amount of combos you have unlocked is directly proportional to how fast you complete the werehog levels.
That is true Sonic Unleashed will never be Sonic Unleashed without the werehog
It’s like saying Twilight Princess will never be Twilight Princess without Wolf Link
I honestly loved the werehog missions over the normal sonic levels, especially after years of playing hack and slash games.
Idc what anyone says, The werehog is just as good as his hedgehog form
Unleashed...Honestly it seems like the last Sonic game that had a budget. The tone and feel was pixar like, they even had the resources to do little Sonic and Chip mini-episodes.
Unleashed will always be my favorite sonic game of all time ❤️
Mine too
13 years later people begin to accept the fact that unleashed was an awesome game, im proud of you guys
Dude. Werehog Sonic with DMC-level combat would literally be GOD TIER
I LOVE that idea. We need this if there is ever a remaster of the game
I first played it on the wii. Then at my friend's house on the 360. And now I bought it again for series s. You can finally play it without lags

The masses: WEREHOG!
Unleashed fans: and?
The masses: nothing else really.

@@GeneralSouthParkFan Yeah exactly, it will be a way better xp, fast paced games need as many frames as you can pump into your display.
And 8th gen believe me when I say, there will be backlash, if it wasnt on the switch and it needs to be on the switch
I’ll defend it:
Sun and Moon medals help you appreciate everything and all the hard work that went into this game.
@@PiggyPooPro if medals were optional and unlocked something I would be fine with it. But forced exploration makes me not go back to Unleashed
@@PiggyPooPro Not "commitment and hard work," you need patience and a guide. If you're forced to explore, maybe the player should be entrapped within the game experience themselves rather than with mandatory backtracking?
Another thing is levelling up.
On repeat playthroughs is just tiring

9:42 because Sonic Unleashed has better dialogue in the cutscenes than forces. Sonic forces' dialogue is just cringe-worthy.
The dialogue in forces, felt kinda... you know.... forced... (I am so sorry)
@@Lahrcan once again, a game with potential and would do some justice for the Sonic franchise, but sadly that's not the case.
@@supertoad6425 You're absolutely correct. Early in forces life cycle I thought it was gonna be some darker story in the same style as Sonic SatAM (Although rose-tinted goggles may be making that show better in my memory and I'm too scared to watch it again and check hah)
Or at least a game that leans into the "Is Sonic ok" a little more.
@@SonicGamerGirl2006, I have the answer, bad writers.

Sonic Generations is one of the best platformers ever made. It's that simple ;p
I love seeing these long videos talking about how great unleashed was,

i just want this game to be shown into the light agin
Endless Possibility is the series best vocal theme. It just sounds really good and suits this good game. Forces didn't deserve one
Sonic Unleashed best sonic game ever hands down
Has anyone else played the Wii version of this game?

Sonic Unleashed on PS2 was my childhood, and I will defend it forever.
The last time Sonic Team put their heart, soul and everything to the max in this game.
This was actually my first sonic game ever and one that got me hooked on sonic so I thank this game.

Unleashed isn't my favorite, but its still up there
I love Chip's love/obsession with chocolate because the first food he ever had when waking up was chocolate chip ice cream.
This might be because your video is just so clear that even Japanese like me can make out what you mean.
i love this game so much and the final boss music is just amazing
The song "dear my friend" touched my heart, guess I'm the only one who likes it.
I always hear that song in difficult times... The lyrics are very special
