Shadow was an absolute WELCOME return to form. Having him be the more serious yin to Sonic's hyperactive yang is a much better dynamic than what we've seen recently. Shadow's character has gotten so messy not just because of Sonic media, but because of fandom interpretation of the character. Sonic Prime however, has righted Shadow the Hedgehog to the point where he feels like he was plucked right out of Sonic X or Sonic 06. And this is just the start to what we've seen. Ian Hanlin killed it.
@@weathermansam2 Shadow isn't really like Vegeta when you break the dark hedgehog down but I'm not too familiar with DBZ so I could be talking outta my ass here. I just know that Shadow is calm, stoic, the serious yin to Sonic's hyperactive yang. He's edgy and mysterious yes, but there's more to him than that. He has a sense of humor, but it's so dry it could rival the Sonoran desert. "Don't be late." "Same to you." and "They're air shoes." are examples of his sense of humor cropping up here and there. He IS a good guy, but ALSO not really, as there are times when he weighs his morals against the greater good, such as in the comics when he fought Blaze even though she helped him. And again when he was willing to kill Eggman in the Metal Virus arc. And in Sonic X he was willing to murder Cosmo, an innocent when he found out she was an UNWITTING SPY...people gotta remember that. Shadow HAS morals as well, not just because of Maria but because of his own experiences in the world. And that's what makes him fascinating and frustrating in all the best ways. Say you and Shadow time traveled to some of humanity's greatest disasters. The sinking of the RMS Titanic for instance. You try your best to give Shadow a convincing argument to skate ahead and smash the iceberg, saving thousands. Would he? No. Not because he wants people to die absolutely not. But because he knows messing with time would have greater consequences than saving the lives of 1400 people. So he wouldn't do it. Would he feel guilty about it? Yes. And THAT'S where his complexity comes in. And THAT'S why people love him; his complexity. Sonic says it himself in Sonic X "you know, just when I think I have you all figured out Shadow!" after the whole incident where he tried to kill Cosmo. Even during that incident, Shadow himself stated he didn't want to hurt Tails, he was just after Cosmo. As to why Shadow didn't just tell everyone why he was attacking her? Well, in his mind, why bother? It would just upset everyone and the problem still persists. So in his head, best to just "get it over with" per his own words; he didn't find the experience PLEASURABLE. He just wanted it done. You would be both the safest person, and in the absolute most danger when you're with Shadow the Hedgehog. And that's why I love Shadow the end lol.
I'd agree if Shadow didn't start punching Sonic in the face whenever he saw him, and if he didn't act like he had a stick up his ass the entire time like has been since 2011. Shadow would talk to Sonic before throwing hands post-06, since he became very calm and reasonable. He still had an edge, preferred to be by himself or just his best friends, and was cocky from time to time, but he wasn't angry all the time and completely isolated from everyone. I guess it's better than IDW Shadow but that's not saying much.
@@DarkkirbyKRPG Why does no one pay attention? *Scene:* Shadow skidded to a halt as he uppercut the blue hedgehog. Sonic flew backwards, the momentum causing him to plummet to the ground with a hard slam. As Sonic shook his head to clear it, Shadow stalked up to the blue furred hedgehog snarling "What did you _do?"_ Sonic was startled. "What did *_I_* do?! EGGMAN'S the bad guy remember?!" Shadow skated towards Sonic growling "You LITERALLY shook the world!" just as he aimed a blow, Sonic dodged smirking "That's cause I'm gooooood. And powerful apparently. Jealous?" he sneered before running off. Shadow scowled, before giving chase. "Maybe my winning interrupted your brooding. Or is it skulking? That's a word right?" Shadow spindashed towards Sonic, only to miss. "You need to _stop,_ Sonic, and _listen_ for once!" Sonic didn't seem to hear, only barreling into Shadow, again, and again before speeding off, Shadow giving chase. The two went back and forth, back and forth, evenly matched. Shadow occasionally causing Sonic to lose his recently acquired rings. Sonic got up from a blow, holding coconuts in his hands. "I could do this all DAY!" He grunted as he tossed them at Shadow. Shadow teleported away from the projectiles, and closer to Sonic. He aimed another blow, but hit the tree instead. The two were on another chase. "But I'm on a bit of a mission here Shadow!" "What mission?" Shadow asked, genuinely curious now. Sonic smirked. "None of your business!" The two continued to fight, barreling into each other over and over and over, the fight only ending when the two were exhausted. Sonic heard a few explosions and looked backward at the mountain. "Oh no!" he gasped. "My friends! Listen Shadow I-" Shadow took the opportunity of Sonic's lack of focus to land a harsh hit right to his face. And maybe, HOPEFULLY teach him a lesson in the process.... "Learn to focus." the dark hedgehog grunted. So per the fight Sonic wasn't listening to Shadow. Shadow asked what mission Sonic was on. INSTEAD of TELLING Shadow, Sonic decided to be a brat about it. Then has the gall to tell Shadow "whatever the beef we're not gonna solve it this way!" Sonic....HE ASKED. Shadow was seconds too late to use Chaos Control to stop/slow time as he had in Sonic 06 where he slow time enough to roundhouse kick tf out of Silver. That HAS to be the most frustrating feeling especially for someone like Shadow who promised Maria to keep the world safe. "Home? Home doesn't exist anymore...BECAUSE OF YOU!" His anger towards Sonic is justified.
i love that Rouge actually feels like a character rather than just "the femme fatale", her animations in the main green hill are absolutely adorable and Shadow gives off strong "annoyed older brother" vibes in his relationship with Sonic, which i LOVE. they do a great job of showing off their similar abilities, but how they use them somewhat differently.
YES! Rouge was an absolute legends and it’s so good not to get a flirting rouge tbh man- I hated how every where she is she flirted with someone But Nah not this rouge And her voice is so good! I could go on And I made a whole other comment about shadow but to put it short He’s actually really enjoyable and I don’t feel like throwing him off screen like I did for sonic boom-
One small detail I kinda enjoyed is how each variant of the characters had a unique name They could’ve gone the easy way and called them by their primary names, but I like what they did Plus hearing Pirate Tails’ name being just Sails killed me lmao
My favorite part is that they allowed sonic to actually feel things and process them for a bit. Of course it wasn’t near Archie sonic type of emotions, but it was nice to see that his reaction to everything wasn’t immediately “Gotta go fast”, and he sometimes allowed himself to be retrospective. Honestly, sega just needs to lean into the fact that sonic is a franchise that will go through reiterations like comics. I wouldn’t mind a small run with sonic being having a more heavy/darker tone.
DUDE I know right?! That whole monologue of him realizing what he did to shatter his home into the multiverse just.....god I wanted to reach out and hug him. And then when he finally meets up with Shadow again, I feel bad for Sonic, but then I remember that Shadow tried to stop it. He was SECONDS too late. And so you realize that SHADOW'S anger is absolutely justified. I love that they're allowing these normally kinda same old character be DIFFERENT. And THANK GOD Shadow is a return to form here; he feels like he was plucked straight from Sonic 06/X. The best versions of Shadow.
@@TheRibottoStudios It's not justified cause his dumbass was the reason Sonic was late. 06 shadow wouldn't have just attacked Sonic, and actually heard him out and went to assist.
@@UnifiedEntity IS justified. Tails told Sonic to be careful. Shadow arrived to try and use Chaos Control to stop and or slow time to stop Sonic. EVERYONE shouted "NO!" to Sonic. Sonic thought that stopping Eggman meant destroy the Prism. He was too focused on winning to understand the consequences of his actions. And we HAVE seen that writing from Sonic before; in meta era. And Frontiers MAKES A POINT to ensure that meta IS CANON via the references to the games. Shadow. FCKING. ASKED "what mission" during their fight. Sonic should've stopped and talked THEN. But did he? No. It's all justified. His anger is justified.
@@TheRibottoStudios Tails told Sonic to be careful AFTER Sonic and Shadow fought WHICH slowed Sonic down which btw had everyone believe sonic was late because "thats how Sonic is" (again not his character). Get your sequence of events in order. And as stated before SHADOW STRUCK FIRST, the guy WHO FOUGHT WITH HIM MULTIPLE TIMES TO SAVE THE WORLD. Remember 06 when Sonic was blamed for the end of the world? Did Shadow attack him then? No. So again it is not justified. Only stupid part was Sonic not telling him, but thats the writers fault. Frontiers makes references but as far as the characterization of Sonics character goes YOU TELL ME, Sonic from that game is the same from Prime. As far as I remember, the "Meta era' was the beginning of Sonic and company making more jokes, breaking the 4th wall, being sillier. But prior to the 2010s barely any version of Sonic is the fool that we see In Prime. So once again, Prime gets both Sonic and Shadow wrong. And by all means tell me which of those meta era games frames it as the conflict of the story being Sonics fault and SOLELY his fault? Ill wait.
The balance they got with Shadow in this show was honestly a stroke of genius. They want Shadow to both still be a Vegita rival to Sonic whilst being the calculated, patient hero. So they just have Sonic push his buttons and drive him to the point of fighting and have that reason for fighting be deserved as Sonic has been an idiot. And they still get comedy out of it which is amazing “they’re air shoes” will never not be funny to me
OMG I know right? Sonic and Shadow are like yin and yang. They don't really consider the other FRIEND but they respect each other to some degree. Having shadow be serious with a dry sense of humor again is so refreshing.
The "Frienemies" take on Sonic and Shadow actually makes it a lot more fun rather than just having Shadow being Knuckles v2.0 which is unnessersary. Knuckles has known Sonic for too long to still be the perpetual Angry Boy so switching him up to a TMNT Raphael-esque Tough Guy of the posse is better for chemistry.
Even if the texture work and lighting wasn't always on point, I have to say I consistently adored the animation. It's so bouncy and fluid, and it felt like something interesting was always happening. Such a perfect fit for a Sonic show.
@@PikaLink91 If this show has the exact same animation quality of Unleashed's opening, I'd be more concerned for the show's quality later on than I already did
"Big and Frogy are here, and that's all they need to be." that perfectly sums up how I feel about those two. Every time I see Big in something new, I'm super hyped, even though he hasn't done anything since Sonic Heroes (and even then, his contributions in Adventure 1 and Heroes was pretty negligible)
I need Big to be in every piece of Sonic media. He just needs to be there. But that's it, don't let him do anything else. He just needs to _be_ not to _act._
I noticed a lot of references in the series, like Tails' password being the year of release of Sonic 2 and Big's Citizen number being the year of release of Sonic Adventure... but I NEVER realized that the resistance logo was a cracked egg.
@@octavius3800probably because the egg council doesn’t know who he is, when he became 9 I doubt that they had him in their database. So they didn’t know his birthday
On the first reveal of Rusty Rose, I wasn't exactly sold on her, but after she got a voice, she's now one of my favorite versions of Amy. I love how cold and snarky she is, I can't wait to see where they go with her in the show.
a fun theory regarding the Chaos Council, that seems to be confirmed with various details, suggests that the Chaos Council is Eggman split into 5 -they state that they are not family -they say "5 makes 1, 1 makes 5" -Eggman was (kinda) holding onto the Paradox Prism as it was shattered
@@ixaldorran7867 Well Sonic was the only one to directly touch the crystal when it shattered while Eggman the next closest person still had a Robot arm worth of separation. Sonic after all is now also filled with the Paradox Prism power.
Interesting. Explains why each member is a different age. Dr. Babble represents Eggman's immaturity, Dr. Don't represents Eggman treating the world as a game for him to toy with, Dr. Deep represents Eggman's try hardness, Mr. Dr. Eggman represents his level headedness and intelligence, and Dr. Done-It represents...uhhhhhhhh, I'm drawing a blank.
@@jlev1028 impatience and naivety, just because he has done something similar - he thinks it will work for all applications. He calls the prisim teleporter perfected after one use (it probably isn't).
Rouge being the one in leadership positions honestly makes sense. She's the oldest of the group, the only one who has an actual job that has her working as part of an organization, and despite Shadow being the face of the team, Rouge was the one who formed Team Dark, not him.
In the sonic universe the female characters are a lot better at using their words than the male ones. Shadow is also not much of a talker, and would have continued to fight omega if rogue didn't intervene. I am curious who would have won in that encounter, since shadow is the ultimate lifeform, and omega was supposedly created to be able to stop shadow...
The humor was very dry and weak with the show which made it kinda difficult to watch and there was a lot of goofiness too which, I get it, it's a children's show but that's not really an excuse.
I really loved the bit where Rouge sleeps upside down like a bat too, that was one of my favorite little details they put in the show. Ultimately I'm pretty happy with how all the characters have been treated, prime Rouge was my favorite too and I'm looking forward to what the next episodes bring!
I liked the way shadow was portrayed in this show, he isn't extremely edgy for no reason and he actually has a valid reason for wanting to beat sonic up this time, if this version of shadow was allowed by Sega this might be a step in the right direction for his character in main line media
No. He doesn't. For what reason does he have to immediately suspect Sonic was behind anything when you look back into any Sonic game or comic that he's never the cause of shit but instead Eggman -_-. And since you know.....they both fought side by side, good writing would have him actually ask what's going on and help instead of attacking.
@@TheRibottoStudios My guy you wrote and entire essay quoting what was obviously said and done in comment threads when one guy made a statement on Shadow which was longer than anything I wrote. And not to mention, your on multiple threads as well, don't even go there lol
@@UnifiedEntity he did try to talk with sonic the first time but sonic refused to listen, everyone literally warned sonic to not hit the paradox prism but he still did. Idk bout you but if I was shadow I would be pretty pissed that my whole universe doesn't exist because sonic wasn't willing to hear the concerns of everyone
It's probably obvious but, the different shoes and gloves Sonic gets to wear in each Shatterverse (hope that's spelled right) would be what that world's Sonic would most likely wear. If I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. Hope you enjoy the episodes to come!
I'd never thought about it like that, that's pretty cool! And a theory like that isn't "wrong" per se. Stuff like this is open to interpretation. I like that theory!
I think something the variants all did well was emphasizing the core trait of each character, and just pushing it to a different extreme with each world. - Tails is self-reliant, but frightened for his life because he feels on his own. - Knuckles is confident and proud, but carries looming doubts of fear and failure. - Rouge is commanding, clever, and compassionate, but also knows what she wants. - Big is present. - And Amy… will bury you. And use you as the shovel while doing it.
One thing about this show I like is the tiny details of the characters themselves. Really deep diving into the cast quirks and personality is fun. Like gnarly(feral knuckles) is more sane than dread(pirate knuckles). Where Gnarly is antsy and sorta quirky. He's also empathic and remorseful when he realizes how he like everyone else hurt thorn rose by taking too much. Dread on the other hand is very selfish & obsessive. He doesn't think twice when he has a chance at glory and getting the prism and even obsessed over it to the point of what seems to be insanity. In this universe we haven't seen mention of the master Emerald and maybe the lack of duty is what causes this for dread. I feel it's a very interesting take on his personalities.
Bit of late reply but I also like to think Dread's fear of getting the prism when failing once is also very interesting. He easily allows his old crew to rob him too and just spends his days sailing and partying away like someone's doing something to ignore a problem or not deal with it
Love to see Shadow acting like how he should be aching like. He's not a villain, he's not heartless, he's not this edgy dude who needs a gun He's serious, with a complicated sad past, he knows what he's doing, especially as the ultimate life form, he was made for a purpose, a promise to Maria, and what he brings to the table, yeah he broods probably, he lost so much, no wonder he's always alone
Honestly, i feel like alot of the "issues" I had are just the inevitable growing pains of a new show. I could see in the future this show being better at alot of the stuff you mentioned. Its amazing how some of the early episodes of tv shows differ from the most recent ones. All and all, its a fun, quality show, and I could see myself getting REALLY into it if I was a kid again.
Definitely agree! A lot of shows improve as time goes on and I'm hoping that's the case here Also, honestly for me the most important part of any media is just enjoyment, as long as I'm having a good time watching it, I'll want to watch more
to be fair, Rouge had a hard time being a team player when she wasn't the boss in her previous incarnations. Having Rouge but with the sally traits that make her more of a team player helps Rouge be way more usable, and keeps the sally spirit alive for those who like her. Its a win win.
It could be good if eventually go to Blaze dimensión for help, there shouldn't be affected for the shard. The pirates should be good candidates to accompany him for Blaze world characteristics. Aside I want to see the short tempered Nine meeting Marine.
I sure hope Wildbrain and Man of Action can find a way to write Blaze the Cat into this series because she hasn't really had the chance to appear in a _Sonic_ TV show.
So I'm not the only one who hears 2003 Raphael with Knux in New Yolk City I mean serious that gritty tough guy New York accent is strong and I LOOOOVE it
I loved the show so far, especially the portrayals of most. I think the strangest thing was actually making Rouge a main cast member, but they've done her really well. Amy's portrayal is really good across the world, and they've made the characters very different and fun. The Chaos Council is pretty unexplored so far, since only 2-3 of them really participate in what's going on. The action scenes are great, especially any that include Rusty Rose. There's a lot of details to movement, and the camera doing well to capture the craziness of it all. You can absolutely see the difference in ambition between this show and Sonic Boom (though it's hard to compare them because SB was slice of life/comedy, rather than story driven with a lot of intense action). There's a lot of references to the other games and shows (and maybe comics). I especially like how every character's attacks are incorporated into to the show's combat. I think my favorite moment is actually the tasteful reuse of the original palm tree memory. It progressively feels more sad, since Sonic is realizing more and more how significant it was, and how much he laments not seeing how important it was to him at the time. (Also, Amy was perfectly sincere in there.) Overall, I'm super hyped for more of it. It's a fun show like Sonic Boom, but more story/action.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who was happy with the meaning behind the palm tree. I felt like I was the only person who noticed the emotional attachment to the little things the show has the offer. Like the scene where Sonic realizes that he might have unintentionally created the dystopian world and when he saw the tree in New Yoke City. Or even at the end when he tells Shadow that he just wants to got home. I love that the series allows Sonic to be more emotionally vulnerable and open. I also love the jungle universe episodes. In my humble opinion that’s where the writing and humor was at it’s very core. We rarely see Sonic getting as stressed about anything really. Sometimes he does but not in the same way as this show which also added to the humor in my opinion. I agree this show is pretty stellar. 💙
@@essycogany2738 i also loved the symbolism. At first i was actually like Sonic: eh? A palm tree? Okay...?, but it was shown more, and everytime it happened, i understood why, and it was more and more sad everytime.
I can't see Prime as taking place after Frontiers, what with Sonic's characterization. That said, Prime Sonic is very much like Colors era Sonic, but not as limited. I could see Prime taking place shortly after Lost World, with the Frontiers references being foreshadowing.
See the issue always goes back to Prime being set in the game canon is a problem at its core. The closest we ever had for Game Sonic to be as open with negative emotions as he is in Prime was Lost world. And Lost World already had taught Sonic to always listen to and trust Tails which in turns completely breaks the opening of the series as it relies on Sonic not doing so thrice (Not listening to Tails warning about a trap, not listing to Tails wanting him to be careful with the Prism and not listening to Tails when he directly said to Sonic to not attack the Prism) And it only gets worse if we look for games before Lost world (The story book games characterization of Sonic doesn't work with Prime at all never mind that it also makes Sonic's confusion with his Friends on all the other worlds dumb) or after it (Frontiers is obvious but even Forces already had the Friendship message be such a heavy handed Team that "Sonic taking his friend for granted" just doesn't work as a theme) Placing Prime in the games universe was a mistake.
@@SunnyGovai It can't. We already got Orbot and Cubot in Prime which first appeared in Colors. And Generations happened imminently as a result of colors ending so at its earliest can Prime take place between Generations and Lost world.
I see prime as its own thing cause This characterization of Sonic is all over the place with mostly dorky vibes coming from him. Frontiers Sonic reminds of Pre Unleashed Sonic era.
Some people were saying that it was bad that sonic was a bit less experienced but it makes sense because his shoes are acting weird and also it’s cool because it shows that he’s not as strong without his friends! So all things considered, this is a great show!
The biggest complaint I've heard is that they made Sonic a tad stupid. Like Sonic's not Tails level of smart but he's always been quick on his feet in terms of thinking. But he always seems shocked once he's in a new dimension that nobody knows him. It's really hit or miss when they make Sonic dumber.
@@Fanatic_Foremem My most optimistic guess is that he meant it was canon in the way that it draws upon the already existing Sonic canon and builds off of it; rather than being entirely connected to the games. It uses the universe of the games to give the audience a stepping stone and understanding when trying out the games themselves.
@@sketchsskotch1073 and yeah, that would be fine. It's a good gateway show to get into the games, it just couldn't happen in the games. Its like a what if.
@@Fanatic_Foremem I mean it could, but I don't think it should. That's one of my biggest worries of the new canon with IDW, how intertwined is the IDW canon with game canon now that Tangle has been confirmed? Since you'd have to keep IDW events and game events connected with eachother and that just sounds like a mess.
I find it odd that Eggman has no shattered variant's but temporal variants. He doesn't show up in the other worlds and the council has no knowledge of the other worlds until much later.
@@WilL-DaNG Yeah I thought that too, Fits but also contrasts against Sonic's pal, in the same way Sonic and friends are low tech while Eggman his mass industry.
It's so cool seeing Rouge utilized, she was one of my favorite early era 3D games. I'm excited to see what happens next, you can tell there was a lot of love for the fans put into this.
I really like the art style/animation in this series so far. specifically the fight choreography and animation is really snappy in episode 6 is especially good.
You pointed this out at the start of overall, but I think my favorite part of Prime is that it actually plays out like one of those cutscene-movies you always see for video games, like the Xenoblade series. The show looks and feels like an actual game, and a GOOD one at that (which is saying a lot for a Sonic game, but hey), and tbh I would LOVE to play a Sonic Prime video game if one came out.
The fact Shadow have real reasons to fight Sonic or how he cares about the universe makes me have hope they'll give Shadow some of development and not just making him a Edgelord. :D
Hmm didn't see the edge in this show, when you're dealing with Sonic, you'd feel the same way. Now that I think about it, Shadow has to be the only character that won't hesitate to fold Sonic for his bs lol. I don't blame him one bit since Sonic has the personality of an annoying younger brother here
If you really think about it… Blaze might actually make an appearance in the show, she is from an alternate dimension/universe after all. Heck, maybe they can implement some of the storybook games in there (I know they’re not an alternate universe, but still it kind of works).
I feel that's a little beyond the scoop of the show at this point. It looks like its focused on sonic's main friends and exploring variants on them. But as a season two premise, sure!
One of the best shows yet and I was highly entertained everytime I watched each episode. The characters were on point, while remaining fresh, the voices were amazing to listen to as I felt they fitted (maybe not Prime Original Knuckles as it sounded off to me, even though I know they were going for a low voice, which Knuckles tends to have) and the locations were amazing. Sonic Prime for it's first 8 episodes was such a wonderful ride to watch as I binged it and I couldn't be happier with what they've done with the show! Also I think this is the first media that featured Amy in a more antagonistic role (she was brainwashed to be evil in Sonic Pinball, but it's a more so a forgettable thing) as I felt the roles of Rusty Rose and Thorn Rose were quite perfect. Rusty Rose being so far my favorite alt Amy as the deadpan robotic voice and the humor surrounding her has been funny, like I was so caught off guard by the "Sonic is the captain?", "I wish I was programmed to laugh" lines were she broke out of the robotic voice for bit was super funny and Thorn Rose being more antagonist environmental activist was interesting, but it taught Sonic to take more of Amy's advice and made Sonic do something I thought he wouldn't do, which is to try "I" messages and talk about feelings. lol But for Rusty Rose, I do want to see her fight on Sonic's side again, idk why, I just really liked that she did for that short time. Rouge, even though she hasn't been used much in current Sonic games, they downplayed the sexy "femme fatale" thing they always went for her and gave her actual character. Which version of her was entertaining to watch as I loved that she was a leader of the resistance, leader of the scavengers and was very humorous as a pirate. Also I adore Kazumi Evans take on Rouge's voice! as I never liked Karen Strassman's take on her. But I can't wait to see more next year!
If I had a nickel for a 3D animated show that deals with powerful crystals that I just do happened to be apart of each other's fandoms, I'd have 2 nickels
15:06 I heavily disagree with this. Issue #6 of IDW, and Sonic Battle showed that Sonic and Shadow can BOTH be level headed competent individuals that butt heads for believable reasons, where neither character is in the wrong for how they handle things. While I really like Shadow in Prime so far, I really wish he had a game accurate Sonic to bounce off of. I also have zero tolerance for main characters that are both low int and low wis like Prime Sonic.
It's good to finally have someone understand what sonic is going through, and honestly it feels really good that it's shadow, cause he feels like the only one on the same power level as sonic. And also feels really good to have sonic be reprimanded, for all the stuff he caused.
This is honestly the first time I've actually enjoyed the concept of traveling to different dimension in a LONG time. While I would like a this Sonic meets Satam Sonic or Ryan Drummond Sonic or something. I do like how this is just. Sonic goes to world where everyone's a pirate. Just cause I feel like when you actually manage to entertain people with such a boring sounding idea for a travel across dimensions story that just shows how creative and overall fun this show is
Funny thing about Ryan Drummond. I saw an interview with him and it seems like he can't do the voice anymore. Which is sort of understandable, as he's aged quite a bit since Sonic Heroes.
@@SaiyanGamer95 Oh he still can absolutely do the voice he just failed during that interview. After said interview did he after all go on to voice Sonic again in Emi Johnes fan radio Drama "Sonic and Tails R".
For a moment, i thought the chaos council was going to compose of diffrent Eggmen/Robotnics from prior games/shows, Babble,Deep,Done-it, Don't & Mr.Dr.Eggman seem like fine upstanding evil scientists, but if they were the ones SatAM, Adnenture1&2, Boom,X & even the pingas master from adventureS, that wouve bean hype, Would have taken a lot of work behind the scenes to make that work but its fun to imagine
i watched all of sonic prime (or at least the 8 episodes that are out right now) and wow it is awsome the animation is as smooth as butter the art style is beautiful and gaorguse the voice acting is top notch and the fight scense are as fun as ever i really hope netflix lets wildbrain make more episodes becouse this is lit
I'm a very huge my little pony and sonic fan so when I noticed Rouge was played by Kazumi Evans and that Tails was played by Ashleigh Ball I was fangirling so bad lmao
For context, Ashleigh Ball is mainly known for her part as not only Rainbow Dash, but Apple Jack too. And Kazumi Evans is known mainly for her part in Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks as the main siren from the Dazzlings, Adagio Dazzle. They didn't just voice those characters, they did background ones too but I think it would be an honorable mention to talk about how Kazumi did the singing voices for Rarity and Princess Luna (they were regularly voiced by Tabitha St. Germain who also voiced many characters. She's also Naomi from Death Note's English Dub!)
Frontiers and IDW has me on a sonic kick, I only planned to watch one episode to start it but every cliff hanger pulled me back in enough to binge it. Looking forward to the next batch of episodes.
I think the flashback summaries were meant as a joke. This is most highlighted by the one in the Pirate world, where it goes from day to evening after Sonic explains the situation to the Pirate versions.
Personally I like Sonic Prime. It’s a bit simple as far as kids shows go I’ll admit, but it’s also a show that really tickles the nostalgia bone with all the callbacks and references. The Genesis flashbacks, the flickys, Tails’ workshop code being the release date of Sonic 2!
Literally after watching the first few episodes, I literally thought "This is just Ben 10, but as a Sonic story", but I loved it anyways. XD The jokes land half the time (with some forced, but others really well done), the animation is really good, some aspects are darker than others, some aspects are more lore-filled than others, and epic animated quality action all around! And it seems to get better (in some aspects more than others) with each episode as more things happen and more characters and powers/abilities are introduced! Literally the oriignal Ben 10 show was like this, and it's obvious Man of Action (the creators for both shows) tried their best to bring the quality of their past works to the future of this one, literall down to the same "vibe" they've always had. It gave me flashbacks to back when I watched semi-obscure shows of the 2000s. :) Not perfect, but definitely solid. :D (P.S. Don't know if anyone noticed or even cares, but there a few moments where they hinted at Sonamy and Knuouge relationship bits throughout the story, subtle enough that you could ignore/miss them and not so forced/ "in-your-face". I think it's cute.)
The story is about as deep as any Sonic game and that is just fine. The details I found fun. The Sonic 3 and Knuckles throw back. The comment from Sonic about the whale not being an orca. It's been fun and very well put together. I actually look forward to more episodes.
I feel like we had a missed opportunity in the shatterverse. Since Sonic doesn't exist in any of them, it would have been cool if each of them had a character to "fill in the gap" as it were. New Yolk City should have had Silver in it since it had the whole futuristic dystopia thing, the Jungle world should have had Sticks, and Blaze could have been in the pirate universe since that was basically just Sonic Rush Adventure. Also since I'm me I've got to speculate on whatever toyline this would get. You have basically 24 figures straight off the bat, since we have 6 main characters (Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Rouge, and Big) and 4 different versions of each of them. Sonic's figures would only need new hands and feet so there's a way to save on molds, and then conveniently you have ANOTHER 6 figures since you'll also need Shadow and the Chaos Council, so you have a convenient series of 30 marketable figures, many of which are variants of the same characters (this is sounding A LOT like a Ninja Turtles toy line if I'm being honest) Though to be perfectly honest I'd like at least one toy of a background civilian character, since they remind me of the Rookie character from Forces and I'd like some kind of official representation of a character like that, perhaps you can have them released in playsets or bundled with the robot enemies, after all every toyline needs to have army builders for the hardcore collectors.
That is a good point, especially since Sliver and Blaze in particular have yet to be used in a sonic show period. They could have use Mighty, and ray as well at some point
Thank you for that comment on knuckles' voice. Ever since X people are just, ok with him sounding too old for them, and it's mainly the reason he come to be some"KNUCKLEHEAD"!
I’m honestly really loving the show so far, genuinely a fun take with the sonic series. Also I was curious to ask but do you have any thoughts on the show being canon to the games? The creator of the show has said the game is in the same continuity with the games
Everyone talks about Rouge’s breasts not being as big as they like but nobody talks about Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat sharing the same voice actor.
I don't tend to watch low budget kids shows so it's a nice treat hearing so many voice actors that have had roles in Ninjago again, especially Vincent Tong, who voiced one of Ninjago's lead characters, being all of the Knuckles so far besides prime The fact that it's by the same production company as Ninjago is also very obvious in terms of visuals imo, the animation, modelling and especially the textures look straight out of that show
When they were in the pirate variant and continued to talk about Knuckles "old crew" I was really hoping they'd show off Espio, Vector and Charmy. It was cool to see Jacksepticeye voicing someone though
It's fairly decent so far. New Yolk is clearly more thought out than the other universes we saw, but maybe we'll get more time in future episodes or another interesting world besides New Yolk.
Honestly I liked the show, my main complaint would have to be probably the pixel art though, which this is probably because I myself am a pixel artist, and the pixel art ranged from "could be bettter" to the Knuckles flashback unironically causing me physical pain by how many issues there were with it. Other than that it's good
@@Fighter_Builder it was really weird too because the Tails Animation, while not the best looking, was still was ok (until the sprite tilting at the end but again just a minor issue)
@@The_Jimmy_Turner Yeeeep. The Tails scene I could just chalk up to average "TV sprite animation" quality, but that Knuckles scene was a complete mess by comparison lmao, i was wondering if they were running out of budget or something
my favorite things were how the other characters spindashed. i loved seeing Knuckles spindash into an overhead punch. its a good combo we don't see him do. love his hover boots he gets later. also *I LOVE THAT AMY ISN'T A SIMP FOR SONIC* . just about every version of Amy that we see, minus pirate, is competent and independent
@@GlennKurusu I like them but Rusty Rose is my favorite. She obviously going to be the Big Obstacle for Sonic as The Eggmans are going to be sending her to multiple Worlds. She their Enforcer. Which means we are going to have Multiple fights with her. And I can’t wait.
I absolutely love this show. It feels nostalgic in a way, I only got into sonic when I was about 10 and it was 2 years ago (it was before my birthday so I was 11 when I got really into sonic) but my first sonic games I played were mania then I moved onto adventure 2 and 1 and I fell in love with adventure 2 it's even mg favourite game, I then went on to watch sonic boom and I thought it was alright but not the greatest show. Then I watched sonic x which was my favourite sonic show up until sonic prime. This show feels like it was made for me I love this show it feels like a show that was made in the 2000s and reminds me of sonic x with the shatterverse and sonic in friends going to earth with sonic x. Absolutely amazing show I love it. Also new yolk city reminds me of eggmanland and robotropolis.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If I had a doctorate, there's no way I'd call myself 'Mr. Dr. SP'. Mr. Dr. Eggman just picked the first title he thought of and ran with it. Well, at least we have that in common.
I'll say one thing about Knuckles, I love the O'Knux reference in his design in the New Yolk version. The archie's alternate universe version from the same universe as Scourge.
Assuming Sonic Primr continues (which is likely). I think it would be nice if next season (or if the season isn’t over yet) they follow another character besides sonic. Showing us what they’re going through and what characters they’re meeting. If each season (assuming season one isn’t over) has two characters and the adventures they went through. I wonder who the second characters adventures we might see. Also would be nice, if sonic and shadow team up.
@@saphcal well that’s slightly good to know. Hopefully before the season is over, we get to see something like a second character and the adventures they went through. As well as what characters they met and what world they met them in.
Honestly, Sonic Prime is really good. It FEELS like a Sonic Show, and it’s surprisingly deep for being a kids show. It’s more story based, kinda like Amphibia, The Owl House, or Steven Universe, except it has that Sega charm (and it’s also good looking 3D animation and which is pretty rare in TV shows in general, last thing like that I remember is the Sonic Boom TV show which was ONLY good because of the animation) It’s all green hill, but it’s varied to the point of it not feeling like green hill unless we’re seeing shots FROM the original green hill! Prime’s sonic feels Mature, while still having that whole Sonic energy that he has in the games. He feels like the Sonic from Frontiers, mature while still having energy and being kinda cocky. ALSO ALSO, I’ve noticed that New Yolk is sort of the “main setting” for the show. ALSO ALSO ALSO, the S3&K flashbacks make me happy Big being here is also pretty entertaining even if he does very little.
We’re praising Shadow right now, but Shadow has been very cryptic in Prime. Shadow attacked Sonic without discussing very much. His intentions are therefore fairly unknown, even now. I hope it turns out that Shadow’s fights with Sonic are more like an older brother slamming you against a wall, and then scolding you for forgetting your packed lunch, rather than him just beating Sonic up for the sake of it.
The first one really seems more like wanting to get Sonic's attention as he clearly wanted to talk with Sonic. It was Sonic that escalated there first meeting into a fight. The second one. Lets be real here Shadow had every reason to be angry at Sonic for nuking there universe.
Like everyone else I’ve been very “cautious” with the new Sonic projects because they would be having Shadow. And although I’m still hesitant about the Sonic Movie 3, I did enjoy this version of Shadow. If you’re gonna get rid of humans, G.U.N., Maria, and darker stories than this is how you do Shadow. A character who won’t deal with Sonic’s bs and will actively call him out on it unlike his friends who kiss his a**. As for Prime as a whole. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. It was alright, and a pretty fun time. Had some issues like I think Sonic is a bit too stupid at times. Knuckles’ classic actor sucks. The jungle episodes were pretty boring. The worlds besides New Yoke City were very uninteresting and looked cheap and lazy too me. Think we should’ve seen more zones on that Island than just Green Hill. Like why have a water world with a powerful treasure and not put it in Labyrinth Zone. As for things I like. For what we saw, I liked this version of both Amy and Rouge. Thought Nine was a strong character who I want to see more of. The animation and design of the prime world is great and characters. So nice seeing Sonic with fur. And besides Knuckles, I really enjoyed the main cast.

Shadow and Sonic’s relationship in this show reminded me of Goku and Vegeta, and I love it!
@@weathermansam2 makes sense after all both franchises have multiple similarities
As Sonic shook his head to clear it, Shadow stalked up to the blue furred hedgehog snarling "What did you _do?"_
Sonic was startled. "What did *_I_* do?! EGGMAN'S the bad guy remember?!"
Shadow skated towards Sonic growling "You LITERALLY shook the world!" just as he aimed a blow, Sonic dodged smirking "That's cause I'm gooooood. And powerful apparently. Jealous?" he sneered before running off.
Shadow scowled, before giving chase. "Maybe my winning interrupted your brooding. Or is it skulking? That's a word right?"
Shadow spindashed towards Sonic, only to miss.
"But I'm on a bit of a mission here Shadow!"
"What mission?" Shadow asked, genuinely curious now.
"Home? Home doesn't exist anymore...BECAUSE OF YOU!" His anger towards Sonic is justified.
i love that Rouge actually feels like a character rather than just "the femme fatale", her animations in the main green hill are absolutely adorable

Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06 we're just that....darker.

I think something the variants all did well was emphasizing the core trait of each character, and just pushing it to a different extreme with each world.

He's not a villain, he's not heartless, he's not this edgy dude who needs a gun

@@juandirection3751 Knuckles in Sonic Forces sounded more normal. Knuckles Prime’s voice sounds way deeper than any Knuckles I’ve ever seen
@@diegopansini3152 Dam then I guess I don't remember Forces as good as I thought
@@diegopansini3152I agree. Sounds deeper than Dave B Mitchell and Idris Elba’s takes.
(Also, Amy was perfectly sincere in there.)
Overall, I'm super hyped for more of it.
I see prime as being it's own universe, but with sonic team we know they'll manage to make them the same universe somehow
See the issue always goes back to Prime being set in the game canon is a problem at its core.
The closest we ever had for Game Sonic to be as open with negative emotions as he is in Prime was Lost world. And Lost World already had taught Sonic to always listen to and trust Tails which in turns completely breaks the opening of the series as it relies on Sonic not doing so thrice (Not listening to Tails warning about a trap, not listing to Tails wanting him to be careful with the Prism and not listening to Tails when he directly said to Sonic to not attack the Prism)
And it only gets worse if we look for games before Lost world (The story book games characterization of Sonic doesn't work with Prime at all never mind that it also makes Sonic's confusion with his Friends on all the other worlds dumb) or after it (Frontiers is obvious but even Forces already had the Friendship message be such a heavy handed Team that "Sonic taking his friend for granted" just doesn't work as a theme)
Placing Prime in the games universe was a mistake.
@@SunnyGovai
It can't.
@@UnifiedEntity the writers confirmed it is canon to the games
I laughed out loud when Sonic said "NOO!!! NOT THE LOOP DE LOOP!!" as if it was some sort of important landmark
With how often characters look at it as a reference point for when locations change, it might as well be one in this show.
I really like how shadows finally getting some justice as a character
Some people were saying that it was bad that sonic was a bit less experienced but it makes sense because his shoes are acting weird and also it’s cool because it shows that he’s not as strong without his friends! So all things considered, this is a great show!
The biggest complaint I've heard is that they made Sonic a tad stupid. Like Sonic's not Tails level of smart but he's always been quick on his feet in terms of thinking. But he always seems shocked once he's in a new dimension that nobody knows him. It's really hit or miss when they make Sonic dumber.
@@sketchsskotch1073 it wouldn't even be that much of a problem if the show runner would stop saying its canon to the games. Let it be its own one.
It was pretty fun, can't wait for the next 8 episodes
And the *year of Sonic* continues 😌. Seriously, I was surprised with how good this show turned out 👌
Ditto 😁
It seems like that momentum will continue in 2023 with knuckle TV show
I think a Knuckles without a Master Emerald that has an unexplainable fixation with a different large gem are is really cool
I find it odd that Eggman has no shattered variant's but temporal variants. He doesn't show up in the other worlds and the council has no knowledge of the other worlds until much later.
dr deep kinda looks like he belongs in the pirate world
@@WilL-DaNG Yeah I thought that too, Fits but also contrasts against Sonic's pal, in the same way Sonic and friends are low tech while Eggman his mass industry.
It's so cool seeing Rouge utilized, she was one of my favorite early era 3D games. I'm excited to see what happens next, you can tell there was a lot of love for the fans put into this.
Shadow to the viewers: _"They're Air Shoes"_
Best Line from the Show.
I really like the art style/animation in this series so far. specifically the fight choreography and animation is really snappy in episode 6 is especially good.
We're only 8 episodes in, and Nine is the best written Tails we've ever gotten.
W
You pointed this out at the start of overall, but I think my favorite part of Prime is that it actually plays out like one of those cutscene-movies you always see for video games, like the Xenoblade series. The show looks and feels like an actual game, and a GOOD one at that (which is saying a lot for a Sonic game, but hey), and tbh I would LOVE to play a Sonic Prime video game if one came out.
Its really great show. And I think its great to have a show like this to remind everyone that shows don’t have to be mature rated to be good.
Black Knight already did the "alternate versions of Sonic's friends" thing, so it would be really cool if they somehow referenced that
@@C_Yoyeah a storybook episode or two would be sick
it’s literally almost exactly the premise of sonic prime without all the shattering stuff
@@C_Yo Don't expect it. I saw some interviews with screen rant and the team clearly didn't remember that Black Knight was a thing.
Rusty Rose being so far my favorite alt Amy as the deadpan robotic voice and the humor surrounding her has been funny, like I was so caught off guard by the "Sonic is the captain?", "I wish I was programmed to laugh" lines were she broke out of the robotic voice for bit was super funny and Thorn Rose being more antagonist environmental activist was interesting, but it taught Sonic to take more of Amy's advice and made Sonic do something I thought he wouldn't do, which is to try "I" messages and talk about feelings. lol
But for Rusty Rose, I do want to see her fight on Sonic's side again, idk why, I just really liked that she did for that short time.
Love how they use the sonic cd "8" leg blur and change colors with the different shoes
I really appreciate how characters actually use their eyebrow muscles to express. It just fits in my opinion
I was not super sold on the sonic boomish feel of the first half of the first episode, but it quickly became very fun very quick
I really liked Sonic's voice. Devon's performance hits something between Ryan's and Roger's voices with all of Ben's wit.
More of Roger and Ben than Ryan. He acts a little to wacky and goofy and cringe sometimes
To quote another fandom
That’s just *Prime*
If I had a nickel for a 3D animated show that deals with powerful crystals that I just do happened to be apart of each other's fandoms, I'd have 2 nickels
@Enter Name Here agreed, both are easily upper top 5 shows
No one ever seems to point it out, but Amy's flicky is literally E102-Gamma.
I also have zero tolerance for main characters that are both low int and low wis like Prime Sonic.
.
It's good to finally have someone understand what sonic is going through, and honestly it feels really good that it's shadow, cause he feels like the only one on the same power level as sonic. And also feels really good to have sonic be reprimanded, for all the stuff he caused.
I can’t lie, it’s a pretty good Show ❤
One of my favourite bits about the animation is sonics legs when he runs, they turn into, I guess an infinity symbols, and I just live it
Closest thing to sonic SatAM so far. let's hope their reintroduced in the future or better yet let's hope a satAM reboot is created.
I must say my jaw dropped when I saw the S3K bit and the hidden Palace theme because that was really cool
@@SaiyanGamer95
Oh he still can absolutely do the voice he just failed during that interview.
After said interview did he after all go on to voice Sonic again in Emi Johnes fan radio Drama "Sonic and Tails R".
Your second suggestion is wrong.

*That Flicky's eyes just rolled back, they killed the fucking bird.*
Fun fact, apparently the bird thats always with amy is the bird from sonic adventure
Specifically, the bird inside E-102 Gamma.
I mean the show is confirmed to be canon so that makes sense
Damn so the bird got put back into a robot in the new yolk city dimension? That’s cold
I really enjoyed it. I was excited when it released because my son likes watching me play Sonic. It kept us both entertained.
I just realized that Amy always had the same surname, but her first name was the one which changed
For a moment, i thought the chaos council was going to compose of diffrent Eggmen/Robotnics from prior games/shows,
Babble,Deep,Done-it, Don't & Mr.Dr.Eggman seem like fine upstanding evil scientists,
but if they were the ones SatAM, Adnenture1&2, Boom,X & even the pingas master from adventureS, that wouve bean hype,
Would have taken a lot of work behind the scenes to make that work but its fun to imagine
The fact that Jacksepticeye cameoed and voiced a character named jack is the most clever and amazing use of a guest voice actor ever.

Still confused on Knuckle's two VA situtation, but hey, appreciate the shout out green man!
It’s like they can’t make up their minds.
I never forgot my first thought when we saw New Yoke City: "It's giving Bad Future"
XD
The jokes land half the time (with some forced, but others really well done), the animation is really good, some aspects are darker than others, some aspects are more lore-filled than others, and epic animated quality action all around!
Not perfect, but definitely solid. :D
(P.S. Don't know if anyone noticed or even cares, but there a few moments where they hinted at Sonamy and Knuouge relationship bits throughout the story, subtle enough that you could ignore/miss them and not so forced/ "in-your-face". I think it's cute.)
I fr wish Silver and Blaze were in this show, its literally perfect for them, chaotix would be nice too. I just miss them smch
Can never have a resistance leader without sally being mentioned and compared to her, huh?
It is such a pain really...
The story is about as deep as any Sonic game and that is just fine. The details I found fun. The Sonic 3 and Knuckles throw back. The comment from Sonic about the whale not being an orca. It's been fun and very well put together. I actually look forward to more episodes.
That TV filter on the footage looks like it would air In a More Modern 90's (Its cool)
Always have and always will love Vincent Tong's work.
He's also Kai from Ninjago so make of that as you will!
I absolutely adored this show. While it did have some iffy moments for sure, it was overall fantastic, and I cannot wait to see more! :D
Everyone talks about Rouge’s breasts not being as big as they like but nobody talks about Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat sharing the same voice actor.
I don't care about that. I care about rouge booba
I was chuckling when in the Japanese dub of episode 3, Sonic straight up calls Rebel Rouge "sexy".

I don't tend to watch low budget kids shows so it's a nice treat hearing so many voice actors that have had roles in Ninjago again, especially Vincent Tong, who voiced one of Ninjago's lead characters, being all of the Knuckles so far besides prime
The fact that it's by the same production company as Ninjago is also very obvious in terms of visuals imo, the animation, modelling and especially the textures look straight out of that show
5:24 I'm actually genuinely surprised no one has come to that conclusion yet.
It's like Sonic CD mixed with Adventures, loved it and my son was super excited!!
Honestly I liked the show, my main complaint would have to be probably the pixel art though, which this is probably because I myself am a pixel artist, and the pixel art ranged from "could be bettter" to the Knuckles flashback unironically causing me physical pain by how many issues there were with it.
Other than that it's good
Agreed, that Knuckles flashback looked like an old crappy Flash sprite animation. Threw me for a loop when I watched it with my friend lmao
@@Fighter_Builder it was really weird too because the Tails Animation, while not the best looking, was still was ok (until the sprite tilting at the end but again just a minor issue)

my favorite things were how the other characters spindashed. i loved seeing Knuckles spindash into an overhead punch. its a good combo we don't see him do. love his hover boots he gets later. also *I LOVE THAT AMY ISN'T A SIMP FOR SONIC* . just about every version of Amy that we see, minus pirate, is competent and independent
2 of those versions of Amy are murderous psychopaths.

What about Thorn Rose, and Black Rose?

Haven't watched Prime yet, but I'm excited to see how Prime compares to my favorite sonic media of all time: the OVA
For Christmas, you should cover Sonic Christmas Blast.
Also would be nice, if sonic and shadow team up.
theres 24 episodes. netflix just doest this dumb thing nowadays where they dont release full season all at once.
It’s more story based, kinda like Amphibia, The Owl House, or Steven Universe, except it has that Sega charm (and it’s also good looking 3D animation and which is pretty rare in TV shows in general, last thing like that I remember is the Sonic Boom TV show which was ONLY good because of the animation)
It’s all green hill, but it’s varied to the point of it not feeling like green hill unless we’re seeing shots FROM the original green hill!
ALSO ALSO ALSO, the S3&K flashbacks make me happy
Big being here is also pretty entertaining even if he does very little.
@@rynobehnke8289
Yeah. I REALLY hope this is the case.
I’m really enjoying the series so far, gave me some laughs, animation is fantastic and I’m really enjoying the story. 💙
