I definitely know the pain of dying to a reflected rocket that wasn't intended for you. When moments like that happen, I can't help but laugh it off because of how random it was.
If you want good hiding spots for when you get caught, DON’T USE CORNERS! Good players know that corners are decent hiding spots and will check them first. This has saved my life as a cloak and dagger spy because it takes a 200 IQ gamer to figure out where I am
My absolute favorite place in the game is the barn next to BLU's spawn on Mountainlab. You can sit there undisguised and invisible all day and get drop stab after drop stab, not to mention being able to revolver down teleporters, as well as multiple escape routes. More than once I've had half the other team derping around the area looking for me and not capping the point.
(mentally cateloguing all the spots you have show for further investigation in the future)... In all seriousness, I'll have to analyse something similar to this in terms of Pyro plays.
Tip for pyros: be random. Go alternate routes. Doubleback. Check your back often at random times. At the very least this spooks most spies from making a play when you are near
There’s also this one great spot on Gorge right by the blu spawn. It’s a stack of boxes, but has a thin hole which you can sneak through. No one ever looks there.
Barnblitz has a room where you can see enemies head out from spawn thru a crack. You can check what is behind them before dropping down as they seek to turn a corner ignoring you. I should do a video on it
Explanation videos are one of my favourite videos to watch on youtube. Even though I already know about some of this information it is still nice to see a different angle on the subject.
Mr. Paladin, I would like to thank you because due to your spy guides (like the number crunching one), I learned how to play spy. So thank you. I enjoy this class a lot.
i like paladin a lot more than other tf2 youtubers, he doesn't brag or flaunt his kills, and is overall pretty respectful of the people he's getting kills on. a true gentlemann
“Oh man I can’t wait to see awesome kickass spy gameplay from the legend himself” Mr Paladin: “today we are going to sit in an obscure corner of the map and do nothing”
For that wall hack addition... Valve really should add a special weapon that allows for better hiding abilities. Like, a pistol that has two abilities: 1. The ability to shoot projectile of disguised class, but does the damage of a normal revolver and a very small clip. *Requires disguise to do any damage, and doesn't drop disguise* 2. Immunity to wall spawn hack
Dear Mr.Paladin I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS they are really good I and everyone want you to keep going on like this and hit those 500k subscribers. WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!! Thank you for reading this if you did.
It's just like field of view in stealth games If you perform actions in someone's field of view they will see you if your now in the field of view and just outside there is a chance they can see you but not likely. RIP from that air blast from the pyro if only it was a little closer to the pipe
That end basically describes my entire experience as spy. I'm insanely unlucky. I stabbed a soldier twice and did no damage, ate a crit rocket while turning the corner of a back alley hallway from some random soldier up there while my entire team was at the payload and under full cloak, got sniped under full cloak from across the entire map, and I can literally stand on the absolute very edges of some maps and can almost guarantee you, if a player comes near me, they automatically veer off in my direction to bump me. Oh. And to all scouts out there. If you see your spy, please don't run straight towards him while you're fighting a soldier or pyro. Despite all this bad luck though, still haven't given up on the class. It's fun and feels rewarding when you do get work done.
I think Harvest spawns were actually designed for spawncamping spies. And even if they weren't, they are still what I learned from that you can easily backstab enemies leaving spawn (just don't put on enemy disguise). Even better - enemies taking teleporter just outside the spawn.
On the flip side, I noticed that people can and will focus you if you are seen as a spy, especially if you've backstabbed them several times, so I sometimes lead them on a wild goose chase, it's time they aren't focused on the main objective of the map, especially if you keep leading them on with a few revolver shots. PS: A lot of other spies I see really try to go for those 'Cool Trickstabs', the trick to trickstabs is that you need to hide the fact you doing a trickstab, otherwise you just look foolish.
So the thing I like about spawn wall hacks is that they kind of force you, as the spy, to be more realistic. As a spy, you wouldn't just walk around looking as ray all the time and if you're lazy like that, you get put down. Now they force you to go undisguised, to observe your situation, and then disguise before striking, instead of just running around as scout, no problem, and uncloaking whenever you feel like doing so.
@@MrPaladin Now that one I really like the idea behind as a concept, cause I could TOTALLY see someone doing that IRL (Not in the way spy does but still faking a death) but I get a feeling that the DR was a game call that they're afraid to recall. lol
The starting skit was the most ridiculous thing you could have done and gotten away with, ever. Where do you find such unaware players? Also: what normal people see: A Ghastly Gibus What Mr Paladin, Swipez and Stabby see: Oh, Healthpack Dude is here again! What I see on Offense: Gotta go fast! What I see on defense: Free disguise!
I know Valve thinks thats suppose to help spies blend in, but a lot of times the wall hacks give spies away. You see the outline of a friendly that is not where they should be, its a dead give away. What I believe their mentality is that if a player leaves spawn and sees a teammate that does not have this outline will realize they are a spy, so they put an outline on disguised spies to try and prevent this. The simple solution however is to simply remove the outlines. We don't need outlines to tell us who is a friendly and who is not. Thats why team colors exist.
Mr. Paladin bumps someone: Enemies just look around and he gets away I bump someone: The whole enemy team, God, Todd Howard and Gaben shoot the hell out of me I know I need to improve as a spy, but things like this one really makes me smile lmao
Naw you sometimes die to it. Not seen (because it was on another map) a pyro I did not bump still saw me blink when I "touched" them and they managed to turn and chase me down for the kill. The lag compensation on their screen calculated a bump!!!
@@MrPaladin Yeah, sometimes an enemy really pops out of nowhere and you have no way of getting away, or lags screws a trickstab. It's unfortunate, but it happens heh Not even practice or skill can overcome plain bad luck sometimes :c

@@MrPaladin Thank you for putting out these videos its because of you i know how to play as spy and have gotten so good at hunting them like the pyro i am.
I'd trade the spawn glow for reverting the spy's speed back from 107% medic speed to normal, makes cl_interp abuse too easy. Instead, just make The Big Earner into the dedicated speed boost knife, with passive 107% speed buff. Playing medic, I know how many certain death situations I've avoided with a surf and a little extra running, being able to do that while invisible with 200hp is ridiculous. The disguise kit should have been fixed five years ago too. Bugs like headless pyros and legless demomen take away the element of subterfuge and acting that should be inherent to the class. Many players can already smell a disguise when it functions properly, so the pub skill ceiling becomes baiting some poor sap into a height disadvantage, instead of gunning down weak unaware enemies. I would welcome a revolver with no crits that kept you disguised if you landed a headshot.
You know a true TF2 player when they see an enemy in the middle of no where or by spawn not doing anything, they dont kill them but they ether chat, or a 2+ player taunt. Because people who have been playing TF2 for years know that its like "who cares" lol. Im glad this game stayed relatively the same and didnt go the way CSGO did, even though a handful of people wished it did because of its popularity. TF2 stayed casual with the casual players and the pros could do there pro things as well, if you play CSGO your always expected to be good or no one likes you. Other then smack talking in game thats every game, but smack talking I will say is super funny on TF2 because of what dumb things can happen in the game. Custom servers on TF2 are probably the most amazing things in a game iv ever seen. I really need to play again, havent played in like 6 months. Never change TF2.
I've come to the conclusion every TF2 player is simply a T-Rex.
As long as you don't move, no one notices you.
