Hi Everybody! There has been recent news about TF2s core code being leaked causing problems that could extend as far as the ability for dubious folks to compromise your machine. I see in the other comments that folks are well aware of this and trying to offer me warning. Fortunately this was earlier footage. The news of the leek came out while I was editing the final touches :) Enjoy and perhaps the gamestate will return to playable soon, until then noone can recommend playing for a while.
Another good point about picking up ammo from enemies: nobody tracks the ammo pack/building debris. If someone sees an ammo pickup randomly disappear they may be suspicious, but not with a random ammo drop from an enemy.
Yeah, the other day I was building a sentry nest, and suddenly an ammo pack dissapeared when I was low on metal. I started blasting and bam! A dead spy appeared from thin air... How strange, isn't it?
@@duckfilms3662 gotcha! Sometimes i do try to sync what I'm talking about with the footage to great effect. Sometimes it is the opposite and unplanned!
The l’etranger is ALWAYS my go-to gun when using the invisible watch or the C&D. This doesn’t apply to the dead ringer however. I find myself using either the stock revolver or the amby. The reason is because the dead ringer is used for escaping, not stalking. So most of the time, I’m visible anyways so I have all the time to recharge my potcket watch. I rarely use the l’etranger for shooting, most of my shots are on buildings which I could finish the job even easier with higher dm output.
That’s exactly what I thought about this load out. My first fav loadout was l’étranger, C&D, and the big earner. Now that’s the same as yours but I often switch to the stock knife, because I really suck with the kunai ( for now ). Thanks again for your videos !
your videos help me play spy a lot, you got me INTO playing spy in the first place! and with each video I just get better and better. thankyou for all this man. keep up the work
Dear Mr Paladin, i just want to thank you for what all you’ve taught me. I’ve gotten much better at managing the default cloak and i’ve went from averaging 0 backstabs to consistently getting 4-6. Thank you so much.
I sometimes play with other revolvers like the diamondback, but the L'etranger always makes my cloak extend that little bit further that helps me get to where I need to get to. The difference between cloak and dagger + no L'etranger versus invis watch with it is enormous and I love staying cloaked for longer with the default watch as it lets you position yourself with much more ease
When I decloak I feel like an enemy comes out of know where and kills me. Also I usually use the ambassador because I like it but I never thought about using another revolver because I had the enforcer but never used it. Edit: but my aim is trash
The amby’s only upside is rewarding good aim with crits. So I wouldn’t recommend using it. Just use stock. If your aim is good enough then use it. But then again. Stock is better
You should do a quick 180 when you spot a tasty hoovy just 1 second before the decloak timing. Sometimes there's 2 pyros with a medic just behind you cos they just turned a corner.
After smashing out school work and hanging with the boys on the ps4. I’ve decided to hop back on tf2 and this just hit me with the biggest nostalgia trip. Please continue making good vids
I was literally binging your TLAS vids at 2 AM when editing my own video for college, glad to see once another beautiful addition! Also RIP to all those snipers
Considering the DR is only useful for for gun-heavy playstyles, the Big Earner is almost mandatory and l'Etranger is easily the worst option (especially considering that the DR is bugged and doesn't properly extend his cloak with l'Etranger).
Personally, I like pairing it with Your Eternal Reward. It balances out the cloak penalty from the YER, and I love using that knife because, as a somewhat beginner Spy, it helps me destroy Engineer nests with ease since I can backstab the Engie without having to worry about his Sentry turning me into Swiss cheese in the following second. Also, I like the dust storm effect of the Saharan Spy set.
I like the L'Etranger, stock spy watch and the big earner or spycicle when the pybros are round.... I think this gun allowing you to just abuse your stealth mechanic to the maximum is honestly on par with the diamond back. What messes with people even more is if you start changing round your watches on spawn...
Pro tip: If the snipers have equipped the razorback, become pyro with a scorch shot or detonator and light them on fire until they switch to darwins danger shield. Now you can switch to spy and backstab them.
I like to use that gun with the invis watch, sapper and Big Earner. 30% cloak on kill sure doesn't hurt. I can be invisible pretty much all the time. Good stuff.
Man I haven't played in a while. But back when I did, when I dipped my toes into the volcano that is spy, I used to run the Le'tran, the Big Earner, and either the basic cloak or the Dead Ringer. I know I'm giving up health, but there was always a satisfaction of mine to know that no matter what, if I did damage with my gun or killed with my knife, I got myself cloak back. Combine that with Dead Ringer and I was almost always getting a speed buff, and could make much riskier plays by getting my cloak from a backstab then activating the ringer. Might have felt cheap at times, but man, it was so fun.
My favorite loadout is all that just swapping out the kunai for a stock knife, for the exact same reasons. I prefer having a constant 125 health to jumping up and down, but other than that I agree on everything else. Trickstabs aren't necessary!
I love picking up dropped ammo from dead enemies because it makes it harder to tell if its a spy or if the ammo just despawned. If a map placed ammo pack disappears its a spy, but one from a corpse? Maybe it just disappeared
My two favorite spy loadouts: The L’etranger, Dead Ringer, ad Big Earner (near-infinite DR charge, so long as you can aim your gun or get your stabs) The “worst” loadout (Enforcer, Dead Ringer, Your Eternal Reward) (Actually sets a really nice rhythm of stab, shoot, run. If you can get a stab, do so. If not, shoot. If shooting will get you killed, and they won’t die, run. If you can’t run fast enough, cloak. Once you have your cloak back, throw on a disguise, rinse, and repeat.)
This gun actually suits my playstyle really well, since I use disguises a lot and in an effort to do so,I must get behind enemies with cloak. The amount of lag from my potato pc and bad cloak management from myself is sheer too much to fix in 10 seconds.Hence why I love this thing so much
I do like seeing L’Étranger/Stock Watch gameplay. It’s a case of Boring But Practical. Might not be good for headshots or even hit as hard as the Revolver, but as you said, more cloak is always good for Spy.
I didn't realize I had the same load out as MrPaladin :O but I understand every bit of that. You have to play to your strengths in this game. And my aim is crap, so I'll stick to my knife ;)
I started playing TF2 in 2014, and began maining Spy almost immediately. This continued until 2017, where I became a Medic main and pretty much just stopped playing Spy. No matter how many MrP videos I watched, I just didn’t feel I was effective as Spy at all. Recently I got back into TF2 after a seven month break and, alongside maining Medic (who has become my best class), I decided to try and play Spy again just on the side. I was terrible, absolutely abysmal- I was ready to just give up with Spy again before I realised; let’s watch MrPaladin again, but this time *really* take on board what’s being said. And I’ve been having the best Spy games I’ve ever had recently. Despite loving the YER, stock revolver and C+D back when I mained Spy, I’ve taken on the L’Etranger, Big Earner (not sure why the BE- I just really like its playstyle) and invis watch because watching your videos again made me realise the scope of Spy’s arsenal and how fun each weapon truly is. Not only that, but you’ve taught me effective strategies and how to play like someone who actually knows what I’m doing. Just wanted to say thank you, MrP- your videos were great back when I used to watch you and they’re still great now that I’m back. Informative, chill and entertaining- what more could you ask for, honestly?
Hi Mr.P can u do some more vanilla spy, and maybe talk about cloack management because I have a problem I started playing letranger and now if I change to other revolver I feel like I have no cloack. A video about how to manage you're cloack would really help me.
I love the ambassador and I’ve been told by different people that I’m pretty good with it, but I just don’t have much reason to use it much. The L’etrenger is just such a superior weapon with every watch, the only time is get to use my beloved ambi is when I use the deadringer or when the ammo packs are pretty close together. I don’t even use it with the cloak and dagger because the added mobility with a pretty stagnant watch is just too good to turn away. I wish there was a watch that gave you longer invisibility time with something like an increase to damage taken, so you can’t get too risky. Edit: love the ambassador so much because it makes me feel like a 1 man army at times. I’ll have two demos, a scout, and a medic to take care of. I accidentally trickstab the medic (I suck at trick stabs so I tend to accidentally do it), headshot a demo and finish him with a body stab, quickly butter knife the other one to lower his health, then a damaged scout makes his way to the scene. I turn around and headshot the scout, and finally gun down the last demo. (This is a loose depiction of a true story, never felt more badass except for when I do some crazy stuff as sniper)
its a good gun it does its job and it does it well. while i personally prefer my ivory griped revolver or the diamondback you can't neglect how great it is to have the extra cloak reserve + cloak on hit. it's so great to have to be part of the perfect evader playstyle of getting your stab and vanish.
Got a link to the video that shows up at the same time as the mention. i'm unsure if others have tried the challenge but that w as the video I was thinking about because of the "over a year" to get the footage
I believe The Stranger is a direct upgrade to the stock revolver. The +40 cloak is worth the damage penalty. And also, Spawing wall hacks are bull, agreed. Just wish I could play today- the Engine Leak happened.
How often do you use your revolver anyway, outside of shooting that 9 health demoman from across the map. You get used to the reduced damage, and the extra cloak helps you escape.
@@Guy-py6go Exactly, that's why his revolvers are accurate at long distances and are the weakestof all the primaries and why you have the ability to see enemy health. It's meant to be an opportunist tool to kill low health enemies from even far away
When I play spy( which is only when the planets all align during a full blue moon) I like using the stock for finishing off opponents and as a defense for myself.
I like the l’etranger cause it means I can leave spawn and walk around immediately while invis so I don’t die to an out of position pyro or scout in my back lines, and still have enough cloak to get behind the other team at the same time.
My preference is the default revolver: I go to it almost as often as I go for backstabs, and my aim is decent enough to make it effective (but not enough for Amby). Plus, having less cloak forces you to be more proactive; I'd rather kill 3-4 people then die, than sit under cloak for 30+ seconds not doing anything just to get one or two stabs and get away.
I enjoy using the diamond back as a spy. It rewards you for being a spy on back stabs and saps. The Crits is a nice way to get out of situations where its not favorable for the spy.
I am kind a paranoid when seeing ammo packs from on the ground disappear, since wheither or not it was natural or it was a spy who pick it up. So I always check by popping one shot or two, just to make sure.
I use to run Let + Kunai but for some reason I'm finding myself using stock knife more and more. I like to think of myself as a competent spy, but at this point stock knife feels like a good challenge to keep me on my toes. forcing me to not overdepend on kunai overheals. Perhaps switching to full stock would add to the excitement, but I'm a spy who loves to stay invisible for 70% of the game.

I must admit, you really make spy look easy. I'm trash with him, I die after 3 kills
I have 100 hours on spy and your still better than me >_>
@@l1fey123 it's a blessing if I get 3 in single life
This video had some excellent ragdolls
I like the l’etranger cause it means I can leave spawn and walk around immediately while invis so I don’t die to an out of position pyro or scout in my back lines, and still have enough cloak to get behind the other team at the same time.
My preference is the default revolver: I go to it almost as often as I go for backstabs, and my aim is decent enough to make it effective (but not enough for Amby). Plus, having less cloak forces you to be more proactive; I'd rather kill 3-4 people then die, than sit under cloak for 30+ seconds not doing anything just to get one or two stabs and get away.
"Revolves" around doing damage. N I C E
I enjoy using the diamond back as a spy. It rewards you for being a spy on back stabs and saps. The Crits is a nice way to get out of situations where its not favorable for the spy.
'A game based around damage'
Ah, sir, you are heavily mistaken
I cause eye damage with my Unusual Burning Team Cap- oh
I can't wait until how a spy thinks episode 100
I just want to say i lost my hope for laying tf2 but recently started playing again and you made it possible for me to acc enjoy the game
5:30 i will till you secret if you double left click while you stand on the metal you can take it in the clock and dagger
I love the thumbnail
This is my favorite loadout too, but i will occasionally swich it out for the diamondback for maximum C A N C E R
If it is the weakest gun, then why is it called the
_THE LIT RANGER_
What i like to do is get a crit on the diamond back and pull it out when a enemy chases me and they usually turn around instantly
Playing Smart > Trickstabs
do both if you can :) but why push for a trickstab when you can make em waste time chasing the wind :)
I still use the ambassador more than any other revolver, getting headshots is just the most satisfying thing in the world.
