Specially when you have a competent sniper. It helps them out a lot for the heavy to turn around and move backwards towards them, instead of making their screen bounce like your grandma's birthday checks.
@@MrPaladin personally I think Heavy is the worst TF2 class just because of how weak they are to spies and snipers. I know there are ways to protect yourself but what's the point of being a tank when you are that vulnerable?
@voltaire It depends on how you play heavy and on your team. If they keep away the spies from your back and prevent the sniper from having enough time to shoot, you can achieve much. This demonstrates again why there is 'team' in TF2
@@brogflea6380 I understand, but in 75% of matches your team is unreliable. I'm not saying heavy is useless all of the time, just that he is the worst class in TF2.
I love how you're so patient with kills and knowing when to leave a situation. Thats one of my biggest weakness whenever I play spy. I always try to go for the kills to the point where I end up dying myself. Or if I get caught I just pull out my revolver yeah I might kill them but what now? 3 of their teammates are now on me and I'm dead.
yep, a few clips I look at I go "maybe I could have stayed there and pushed the extra kill" but most of that is 20/20 hindsight and I was better off nope-ing out and staying a persistent annoyance.
a good example in this clip is the "should I trickstab that pyro" moment... that hill is very bad to engage on and if I failed the trick I would have been in a spot that there was no escape from. As you said any of his other teammates from spawn could/would have seen my attempt.
How should you change strategies once you’ve stabbed enough people that the entire team is paranoid and aware? After the initial phase where it doesn’t even cross their mind that there might be a spy. Besides sticking to it and going for picks when enough of a distraction presents itself, should you switch things up and focus on distracting the enemy team and stemming that paranoia further?
-Loop around the map and get into the flow of enemies. -Mimic enemy movement, the closer to the individual the better -Dont run on a small check, they may fall for it without hitsounds -Keep off for a bit as they will be busy spy checking insteat of attack/defense
Describing being a spy as using misdirection is wonderful and so true -that is such great wording and very helpful. I love your videos so much and can attribute much of what I know as spy to your videos. Still, I prioritize just sapping over kills, and don't tend to go spy unless there are things to sap -or the rare occasions that there aren't already 2 other ones. I am just not confident in backstabs. It seems like so many of my stabs miss and I'm always dying so frequently, although that's a part of learning, too -from mistakes. But still, I can have positioning, misdirection, etc. all on my side and somehow things end up going south, seemingly more often than not. The knife doesn't land, and suddenly the person decides to then and so I try hiding again, giving up if they find me again and shooting. It all ends up in rapid death, so I just tell myself "Welp, just go do some sapping and then get out. Stop trying to be a stabber like normal spies." He's my second most played class besides Medic (because if my teammates can't get the sentry or teleporter down while I'm healing them, I decide to go do it myself as spy) and while I feel somewhat comfortable with him, I just don't seem to be able to nail stabs very often. It's discouraging, but I keep watching your videos and trying things out to see if I can get those rare chainstabs I get once in a blue moon. Forget trickstabs -I just want normal stabs first! I don't know if I'll ever reach trickstab level success, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.
“The engie doesn’t pursue me the whole time because he’s distracted.” Meanwhile, even while it seems the enemy is distracted, they will manage to kill me, even while not ubered, completely focused on someone else, because my backstab, while in the middle of their bloody spine, was apparently not a backstab, without fail
Also true about the heavy thing. As a certified heavy main myself. A way to counter spys is firing at the enemy teams in hoping for spies to come and backstab me and BAM! I quickly turn around! It's honestly a really good strategy as well as shooting corners or areas where spies tend to cloak I usually catch a few spies off guard to the point where I get called a cheater.
My favorite lines: Spy: "Your precious sandwich won't save you now, fatty." "I appear to have burst into flames." Scout: "Heyyyyyyy, nice hustle tons of fun, next time eat a salad." Sniper: "STaBBy sTaBbY".(I think?)
It blows my mind how Spy Pros are able to pull off stabs as the one at 8:32 Everytime it seems I have a whack at spy I can literally be right behind a dude, breathing down his neck and the hit attack wont register as a backstab. Spy is such a strange class.
Spy is one of my least played classes, mostly because I tend to be too passive when playing him. I'll usually go with the CnD and camp for minutes on end before maybe snagging one or two kills. I know that a good spy can be a nightmare for the other team, but i feel that going heavy, engineer or medic can be more helpful to my own team in most cases.

Best part about spy is either you can capitalize on your team being a distraction or YOU are the distraction for your team. its great.
