I just want to thank you guys for posting this video. I was able to pull everything apart myself and fix the issue. I can't thank you guys enough for giving me my sanity back!!
You guys are life savers! I inherited a 2005 Toyota Solara convertible earlier this year and what was a minor annoyance got worse and to the point where the sound system was almost unusable. Did this today and it's like a miracle! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Perfect fix, thank u. Didn’t even have to remove the panel all the way thanks to your video, I was able to pull the panel out a little and just slide my hand in and unplug the plug. Took all of 15 minutes. Thanks again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'd been living with cutouts for years but it was getting worse. I contemplated replacing the radio, which wouldn't have worked. In the end, I borrowed a friend's trim tool and used a phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws and bolts. Removed one panel, disconnected the pin switch, and replaced the panel: total time 10 or 15 minutes. Why did I live with such annoyance for so long? Thanks again.
Great...much best video for this problem. Did it took about 20 min, hardest part is getting the plastic parts to snap together right when reassembling. Skipping the dealer saved me $250! Thanks guys...
Have been having problems with ours for years. Had set up an appointment with dealer to have fixed. Was told it was complicated and would be $300-400. Saw this and my husband and I followed the directions, took us about 20 minutes. Worked like a charm! Thanks!!!!!!
Thank you very much, folks. Your public service is greatly appreciated. It took about ten minutes with tools most people should already have around the house.
Thanks guys for the vid!!! You saved me a boat load of money replacing my system. The jerks at the sound system shop told me I neededa whole new sound system.
You guys made my weekend. I just had a new Sony XAV-AX3200 receiver installed to get Apple car play and all, and was disappointed that didn't fix the issue. My son just disconnected the switch without even removing the panel just by reaching in with the top up and it's fixed! Now I'll replace it because it's function is to kick in the trunk amp when the top is down. Thanks so much!!
The switch should be replaced. The Solara has an amplifier in the trunk that is triggered when the top is put down. It adds a little more volume to the stereo when the top is down. The reason for the cut off is the internal amplifier in your stereo is being cut off and the amplifier in the trunk kicks in. You have an 8" base cone behind the passenger side rear seat. That speaker is greatly effected by the rear amp. I highly recommend replacing the switch. They're relatively inexpensive. The video they have posted is spot on. Replace it instead of unplugging it.
Thanks Tom, I disconnected the switch and it solved the issue, so now I'll replace it. I wonder if I've been missing out on the trunk amp because of the faulty switch. Where in the trunk is the amp if you know?
OUTSTANDING VIDEO. I love my '07 Solara, but this audio problem has taken me very close to madness. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me out.
Your video was the best explanation of how to do this fix. Thanks. I was able to do it in about 20 minutes. 2001 Solara Convertible. Excellent presentation.
Followed your instructs. Radio no longer cuts in and out and did this without the $185 cost for parts to turn off sound when roof going up and down... when I need this I will call you. Disconnecting the switch could have been covered better but everything else...excellant
Good presentation, concise and clear. The car audio shop that I went to was sure I needed new speakers - wouldn't they be? - and that cut-out problem was bedeviling a decent-sounding system. I'm glad I looked. Thank you.
Hi, Whats the exact gray color of those leather seats? i want repair mine but I cant find the color and paint for it. The code is LC10 but cant find anything. Thank you for the help.
I have a 2nd hand 2004 Solara, radio was working, stopped working for two weeks, worked for a week, now stopped again. Looked at your video, switch was already unplugged. Radio looks on, but no sound. Any recommendations what to check next ?
Thanks so much for your video! I, too, was about ready to shell out hundreds of dollars to have my stereo replaced. I'm wondering why Toyota didn't issue a recall and fix this for free, though?
Well, I just bought one and the nagging problem I thought might just be the age of the stereo unit itself, because the CD deck isn’t reading disks, the radio would cut in and out, and I bought an aux to cassette (I still get a kick out of that by the way) and when I still experienced the problem I thought “ok, it’s the unit-I can live with this until I buy a CarPlay unit…” Guess I know what project I’m working on this weekend!
I did exactly as you showed and the stereo audio still cut out. Also when I unplugged the pin switch the convertible top was stopping going up and down. 0:04
Thank you SO much, this was driving me bananas! I even had a brand new deck and backup camera put in. Seemed to still happen on AM/FM but way worse on Apple car play w/Spotify when I was using my steering wheel controls.
I am having a problem figuring out how to pull the side cover off my 2001 solara convertible? It is different that the year model you are working on. Can you help me please?
Jean Claude yesterday I did exactly what the great video says to solve the audio problem of my Solara convertible 2005 but with the switch pulled out there is not enough power to close the top. Anything I did wrong? Thanks
Count me in Ramos, happens with radio, and CD, so i knew it wasn't just the radio frequency. Don't care about the sound going off when raising & lowering the top, but when simply driving, it's annoying as can be (and didn't always happen - so it's just getting old & worn). THANK YOU GUYS!
I did exactly what is shown in this video. I have 2006 solara convertible. audio was fading out and was coming back on. behaved like this for a minute and then completely cuts off. after some days, it came back again and gave the same result and faded again. So I followed the video and unplugged it. it was working for like half and hour then it is still gone again. Please, I am looking for genuine recommendation. help would be appreciated.
You can do the job in less than five minutes when the top is up without removing any panel as well. Is you simply push the headliner over you can reach down through the top and undue the connector with your hand, the button to push in is on the bottom of the switch. Im 230 lbs with Large hands and could do it easily.
My understanding is that the pin switch engages the amplifier when the top goes down to boost the volume and counter the wind noise. If you disconnect the pin switch will the Amp still work?
Hi Five Star Car: My problem is relative to a sound too, but is not cutting. Actually is completely mute, the radio is on and the sound is mute permanently, if you move the volume bottom doesn't show any activity on the screen of the radio. sound setting are completely locked up. Do you think is the same cutting sound problem? relative to courtesy switch? or the radio? Could you please recommended any please in New York City. Please HELP
After researching in 2022, I believe that if the volume button will not work at all, despite the radio working fine otherwise, it is either the amp or the switch that needs replacing.

I just bought an 07 for my wife and tonight she mentioned this problem..thanks for passing on the info..very helpful

OMG, thank you! I have a 2007 solara and this has been driving me nuts!

If you disconnect it does that put it into a constant "top down" or "top up" condition?
@@rainyday13 Great question

Worked like a charm and save me hundreds. Great video!
That was the best how-to video Ive ever watched.

Brilliant! This has been driving me crazy!
Great video and while similar to an earlier one by someone else, this is better as the video shows more. Thanks!

what is the part that needs to be replaced called? do we have a part number?
This probably just saved me hundreds of dollars : )
Thank you!! The hardest part for me was getting the connector undone, but overall was quite simple
Thanks for helping me with this bizarre issue!
This is great guys. One question though, does the top have to be down to do this? The frame on my top is broken and it won't go down.
Thanks for putting this out there. Came apart just as you said. Easy fix. Done and done.
Easy fix! Saved me hundreds on aftermarket radio
Thanks a ton for this very helpful video!
Worked great, now to tackle the radio reception problem. I suspect mine is in that long antenna cable going to the rear.
Hi, Whats the exact gray color of those leather seats? i want repair mine but I cant find the color and paint for it. The code is LC10 but cant find anything. Thank you for the help.
Thank you. Just what I needed.
Thanks for the tip, fixed it in a minute

I know this was 3 years ago but this is also the case for me, did you ever solve this problem?
I believe the amp needs replacing and you can get a used one cheap. it's located behind the glove box.
Thanks so much for your video! I, too, was about ready to shell out hundreds of dollars to have my stereo replaced. I'm wondering why Toyota didn't issue a recall and fix this for free, though?

Sorry, I had unplugged the wrong plug.
This helped me so much

Hey how much did it cost you to install spotify, and the back up camera?
I am having a problem figuring out how to pull the side cover off my 2001 solara convertible? It is different that the year model you are working on. Can you help me please?
Worked great. Thank you!
sweet. thank you.exactly what my 2008 Solara is doing
Great info! Thank You!!!
How do y’all get that panel off
Jean Claude yesterday
I did exactly what the great video says to solve the audio problem of my Solara convertible 2005 but with the switch pulled out there is not enough power to close the top. Anything I did wrong? Thanks
The switch is only connected to the audio and has nothing todo with the power for the top. You may have a weak motor
I think there are 2 motors for the top, you may have accidentally unplugged one of the motors while you were in there.

+Kevin Cone thank you enjoy the weekend
Appreciate it!...my wife's been driving me crazy about hers...

What G. Ramos said! Than you so much!
You’re the best
Thank you so so much!!
I'm runnin two dual 2 ohm 750 rms each subwoofers. What would be a good amp to run them. Around 300-400 budget.
+KmLLegenD check out the Pioneer GM D9601

Jam a light in to the side behind the seat to see this.

David O I tried it, pretty sure the amp switches to always on. In any case it is still very loud
I read on a Fix it forum that if the switch is removed, the amp stays on, but I have no experience myself
Awesome! Thank You so much!!!!!

Great video guys, Toyota screwed the pooch on this one. LOL!
+Tim datoolman big surprise, right

I disconnected the plug, music still cut out after 10 minutes when playing loud music
