My Dad playing Judas, grew up listening to this 😀
He was great. Honestly right up there with Carl Anderson and Jon English
I REALLY envy your dad, playing Judas in JCS must be truly magical, an INCREDIBLE character with AWESOME songs.
I have this version on cassette tape. Dated 1972, and it doesn't give the cast list for this recording. So I'm wondering. If it's the same cast as the stage show? Who is your dad?

To my knowledge the stage show had a different cast.

I ordered JCSS from my local record store at the grove in Cottesloe in 1973 and waited...... What I got was this strange Australian version. I was crushed. Until I listened to it. That was 48 years ago. I still listen to this album. It is unique.

This was my first taste of Jesus Christ Superstar until I was old enough to see the movie. I played this album both on LP and cassette I still have them but the record is scratched and the tape worn. Gethsemane on this album has always been my favorite with the film soundtrack version by Ted Neely a close 2nd. Thank so much for putting this up, bring back many memories.

Just a small comment to clarify what this album really is. It is not a recording by the original Australian stage cast but came before that and was an Australian version of the original British JC Superstar album. Superstar began in UK as a studio album not a stage show. No doubt many of you have heard that famous album featuring Ian Gillan, Murray Head and Yvonne Elliman. There is a different Australian stage cast album featuring Michelle Fawdon, Trevor White and Jon English in the lead roles. Look out also for the original British stage cast album featuring Paul Nicholas, Stephen Tate and Dana Gillespie.

Wonderful and thank you for posting! What happened to the overture though? I can’t imagine Lloyd Webber allowing anyone to mess with this score.
Simon Zealotes and Hosanna are a bit cut short (by the album, not the editing). Also, who played Pilate and Caiaphas here?
